    Shoyu Ramen

They no longer serve fresh fries. They make a very large batch and put them beside the rice and noodles. Disappointing that a fresh and well done fried chicken katsu is served beside soft cold fries now. I did ask if I could get a fresh batch of fries as they were already running low and they agreed. The sandwich is still really good, juicy and moist with a crispy exterior. Sad about the fries.

This is my second review of Yoi. It's been a few years since I've been to Fairview mall, so I was curious to know if I'd still enjoy the ramen. It's still good ! The pork slices are flavorful, soup base is mouth watering and the side chicken is juicy and tender. So glad to revisit this place and even more pleased that it's still as good as I remembered.

Wow, big portion, not stingy with the meat. Taste pretty good. Can do with more of the sauce though

Yoi Eatery at the fast food court at Fairview Mall

My daughter and I bought food from Yoi at the Fairview Mall food court. There were a lot of people ordering food. When we finally got our food we managed to find seats in the packed food court and immediately ate. My daughter was surprised to find something"extra" in her food - a bug. Please see the pictures. So buyer beware!

While doing some errands in Fairview mall I started to get hungry and for convenience sake decided to head to the food court to get a bite to eat. I came across this new place and decided after looking it up on Yelp (and the good reviews), that I should try it! For mall food court food, It's pretty decent! I tried the beef gyundon rice bowl. It was $11 i believe with taxes. It's actually a pretty big portion - definitely fill you up. Lots of beef, rice, bok choy and scallions. Flavourful and nicely cooked fresh rice hit the spot when the afternoon munchies hit. I don't think I'd necessarily come here for Japanese food if I wasn't in the mall, but the next time I head to the food court here, this will definitely be my stop.

Shoyu Poke Bowl with Salmon - $11.95

[LOCATION] - 5/5 Located in the food court at Fairview Mall (Sheppard Ave. E & Don Mills Rd.) [SERVICE] - 5/5 Quick, friendly & hassle-free. [DÉCOR] - 4/5 The food court has pretty modern decor and is kept pretty clean. [FOOD QUALITY] - 5/5 Excellent quality for what you get at a food court! I usually don't like to eat meals at food courts because of all the unhealthy options. But, I'm super glad I can get healthy & delicious options at YOi. [ORDER] - 4/5 Shoyu Poke Bowl with Salmon - $11.95 - salmon sashimi tasted pretty fresh. There weren't that many pieces of salmon, but I was pretty full from the perfectly-cooked rice and fresh toppings. [OVERALL] - 4.5/5 There were actually a lot of places that offer poke bowls in the food court at Fairview Mall, but this one looked like it had the freshest ingredients. I'll have to try the other options to determine which place has the best poke bowls, but so far, I would definitely recommend this one for a healthy lunch!

Wanted a snack before watching a movie at Fairview and it became a bigger munchie than I expected. "Sushi Shop or YOi?" They were right next to each other and both had good menu items - it was so difficult to decide! YOi was my decision as I have never tried it before (and don't think I've seen it in other food courts). They have a wide selection of food from ramen to appetizers like kaarage, katsu bowls to poke bowls. I rarely have poke bowls and that day I craved one. Sticking with YOi was an absolutely right choice. I ordered a Spicy Mayo Tuna Poke Bowl that includes avocado, cucumber, cabbage, seaweed salad, taro chips, and edamame on top of rice. This was better than I expect and super delicious! I love their sauce, it works really well in the poke bowl though I know it's not teriyaki sauce. Service was decent, the wait is moderate but cashier line up is quick. I definitely would eat this again or try something new on their menu.

CHICKEN IS NOT COOKED PROPERLY!!!!! WHY DO YOU GUYS SERVE THIS TO CUSTOMERS ? ITS PINK!
    Rhaya B.

CHICKEN IS NOT COOKED PROPERLY. I do recommend eating here cause the ramen is good, customer service is ok and all but the karage chicken? Nope! It looks cooked but on the inside is PINK! I really question why they would serve this to customers. It's disgusting how they would serve chicken without checking the insides if it was cooked or not. Yoi should change this method of cooking immediately just for health and safety purposes.

Chicken katsu don with sauce on the side

It's been a couple months since I last visited Fairview mall. I was starving and looking to get something quick like poutine but noticed the new food options. The fake food display drew me in and I decided to get the chicken katsu don. I thought they were going to give me the last chicken katsu that is sitting under a heat lamp but they actually made a fresh one. It looks like they are still new and have some kinks to work out. My order took almost 15mins to be completed. The workers seemed a little confused with their roles. The girl who took my order ended up preparing orders even though there were 3 other people doing it and there were customers just awkwardly waiting in line to place their order lol Presentation wise, the bowl is very colourful. I wish the chicken katsu was placed into the bowl more nicely, but oh well. The bowl tasted even better than it looks. The chicken is hot and juicy and there is a nice balance in flavour. Typically I tend to eat more rice than I do meat, but this time I find myself doing the opposite. Overall, food is pretty good and prices are reasonable. I'm not sure if the long wait and lack of organization is a regular occurrence or if it's because it's near the end of the day and the workers were already stating to clean up. I'll be giving this place a couple more tries regardless!

    Amy W.

Pretty good ramen for food court quality. The texture of the ramen reminded me of the ramen from the foodcourt in UNY or Jusco in HK. The karage was pretty good aswell again for food court quality. Not too oily and nicely flavoured. This new ramen option really spiced up this foodcourt and satisfied my cravings when I don't want to line up at the ramen joints on Yonge!

I come here a lot during my lunch time at work. If I'm feeling for rice, a snack, or some noodle soup, this place has it all. This place has your typical Japanese dishes (teriyaki, curry, ramen, poke bowl, etc.) The downsides I find here are that the prices are a bit expensive and it also takes a long time for them to prepare your food. Most of the time my food is warm and not even hot... I guess I keep coming back because I'm always craving Japanese food. I've had a few of their dishes. Chicken teriyaki, spicy tan tan ramen, pork belly rice. Their baos are amazing, I definitely recommend getting both to try. They have a 1 and 1 where you can mix both flavours. Overall, it's a decent place, but I would love for my food to actually be hot especially when it takes them awhile to prepare.

    Billy A.

If you want to get sick and terrible service, get the Karaage chicken. It's completely raw chicken that they insist is dark meat. Dark meat is not rubbery. That is uncooked or improperly cooked chicken. You are better off at McDonald's.

    Yuna T.

I bought my first salmon Poke Bowl here. I really loved it!! The bowl was so big and the salmon pieces were so thick and they put A LOT !!! They have 2 flavors, soy sauce or spicy mayo. I wasn't so sure what i want cuz i never tried it. so i asked the cashier man to make me the soy sauce one but put spicy mayo on the side. He was so nice to let me do so. After trying both flavors i personally think the soy sauce one is better. It is so taste i was so full and i couldn't finish it at the end. I will come again for this poke bowl next time !

The beef was my favorite -- thin, tender, and cooked just right. Pork belly wrapped in lettuce with sauce was tasty, and lamb was a little tricky to grill but still flavorful. Seafood isn't the best for grilling -- shrimp and squid didn't have much flavor, and salmon and clams were okay. Veggies were solid though -- zucchini and mushrooms were cooked just right, and the grilled pineapple was sweet and delicious. Edamame was fine, takoyaki mostly batter but cute and tasty. Desserts were adorable -- caramel pudding, coconut, and banana popsicles were fun to try. The vibe is cozy but lively, perfect for couples. It's my go-to spot to get my don fix - I love the wide variety of dons (rice bowls) that they offer with various fish and seafood combinations. There are also unique appetizers in the menu, such as Purple Yam Croquettes, Crab Crackers, Braised Bamboo Shoots with Shirasu (immature whitebait fish), and Takowasa (marinated raw octopus pieces, to be eaten with or wrapped in nori / seaweed). Although the dons are the main highlight of their menu (hence the restaurant name), they also offer traditional sushi, sashimi, sushi rolls and sets (similar to other Japanese sushi restaurants). Miso Aburi Scallops were very flavourful - nicely torched, giving the scallops a nice grill / char taste. They came with red and green seaweed, and a bit of fish roe. Large Premium Hana Don contained a good amount of fish and seafood, including a whole abalone, uni, shrimp in the shell, aburi salmon, ikura (salmon roe), salmon sashimi, tuna sashimi, yellowtail sashimi, other various fish sashimi, tamago (egg), and a few slices of cucumber on a generous bed of rice. I liked that the rice was a mix of white rice and some type of dark-coloured grains. Unatama Don came with a big piece of unagi and tamago (egg) that were both excellent. The sashimi were all fresh. Okonomiyaki was disappointing but it was sort of expected... for only $9, it was about 99% just flour pan-fried in a patty, without any substantial fillings (unlike real okonomiyaki, which usually contains protein / seafood, cabbage, eggs, and other ingredients). Location is super convenient near Bay & Dundas, ambiance is very casual, and service is quick.

I ate a couple of pieces and the crisp texture and flavor was wonderful. I had a bite of rice and when I got to the cabbage to my dismay I found a long piece of hair in it. I immediately lost my appetite and all I could think about was how great the two bites of chicken was. I gave up the plate and showed the staff what I found. They offered another plate a couple of times and after I declined a refund was issued. Katsuya. sucks for serving me one of the best pieces of breaded chicken in my life with hair in the food. I'm struggling to hold back the tears now as I write. I did get to try the parmesan fries which were ok. I also tasted the udon which is not one of their stronger dishes. This probably would have been five stars had it not been for the hair. I know this happens on the rare occasion but probably shouldn't if hair nets are worn. If you do try out this place, expect great katsuya.
