    Miso soup

Ordered from here for a quick lunch. The garlic shrimp and nankotsu skewers were delicious and were definitely the highlights of the meal, and the miso soup was also quite good. I tried the chicken omurice as well, which was just okay, the dish had too much ketchup and sauce which didn't help. I'd consider giving this place another try for their donburi, but my first visit was a bit underwhelming overall.

After we played a claw game near by, we were walked around for dinner. Don food is my favorite, enough rice and meat for my husband. Haha. There were 3 or 4 tables and 1 server, when we walked in with a stroller. She was nice to give us a table for 4. Stroller was put in between two tables, which was not blocking anyone. We had the signature Beef Don and Perpanyaki Chicken, which both were on the rice and have a bowl of miso soup. My chicken dish in Chinese was like on iron pan. Somehow it means the dish made on iron pan in kitchen. Both dishes came fast. Chicken dish had more veggies than beef dish. The taste of both dishes were good. Traditional taste. At the end, I checked Yelp. As a Yelper, we can have a free cup of green tea ice cream. We had a big scoop of ice cream for each of us. This moment we were so satisfied.

Pretty decent Donburi place - pricing is a bit higher than expected, but the staff was on top of their game when it came topping up water. As for the atmosphere, it's filled with a ton of anime decor that would make anyone happy to see their fav fictional characters both on the walls and on the big screen tv!

Went for a late night snack and got the fried chicken and wasabi onigiri for my friend. The chicken was perfectly juicy and crispy, topped with a decadent sauce. Will return for a full meal sometime

Came here for thanksgiving with the fam. I love that they have so many choices on the menu that everyone can enjoy. The staff was super nice. I love that you can draw something and they put it up on their walls to showcase it. It adds a lot of character in the restaurant. I enjoyed the tofu with rice.

We used to eat here every now and then but haven't in a few years. We recently came on a weekday for lunch. There were a few tables occupied, but it wasn't overly busy. I'm a bit surprised that there were parking spots available and we didn't have to use the underground parking garage. For those that are anime fans, there are two TVs playing different anime, and there's fan art covering the walls by the booths. Remember to check in on Yelp for a scoop of green tea ice cream and let the server know if you use Vicinity. We were a little too ambitious and ordered two rice bowls. We ended up taking home rice that was almost the equivalent of one rice bowl. Next time, we'll go with one rice bowl and appetizers. We found that the spicy tuna was on the salty side and that the BBQ chicken rice bowl wasn't hot, only warm. There was only one server working, but she was attentive and came by often to check on us.

A very convenient spot to visit for a decent meal, they are open pretty late too. I like the sauce on the omurice and I believe most mains come with miso soup - this portion is pretty fair but I know that some of the other bowls have a lot more rice than the ratio of meat. The quality was fine for my dish. Also, they only take debit and cash!

Umami and signature bowl, karaage, and takoyaki

Service was amazing! Super nice staff. The food was good, the umami Donburi had lots of flavours! Wished it had more eel, the karaage was pretty crispy and so was the takoyaki!

Donburi has been a long time staple in the Richmond Hill community for quick and classic Japanese homestyle meals. Whether you go in the omurice direction, the rice bowl direction, or even the snack route of takoyaki, there is lots of tasty options to select from! If you do need one recommendation, I do highly suggest the Chicken Katsu Curry Rice Bowl. The katsu was perfectly fried to a nice crisp while still maintaining a moist texture which compliments the sweet and spicy curry. Lots of options to choose from for reasonable prices and I will definitely be back soon!

You'll never have a bad time at Donburi. I've come here every so often over the years and their quality has always been the same, and the prices are also very reasonable, especially in today's economy. I just love the vibes in there, with some anime playing and colorful drawings all along the walls. They serve such delicious Japanese comfort food, and I feel like there's something for everyone here, whether it's curry, rice, skewers etc. It's also a good option to grab a late dinner as it doesn't close too early. Great place to satisfy your cravings!

went with my boy for a late night snack and loved it. It's open pretty late so that makes it pretty accessible, staff were super nice and friendly, decor was decent: they had a TV running and even had some of those japanese food displays! one criticism was that the wifi wasn't working though. I tried the pork katsu curry rice and loved it. It was only $13 but was very filling. There was a miso soup included as well. The katsu had a good crunch to it and the curry sauce was tasty. Overall, I had a good experience. Good food, good price, good service.

I would come back here to try more things as their menu seems to have a good variety. It would be an ideal place for sharing dishes since they have a lot of japas that would be fun to try. Came here on a Saturday for an early dinner with friends. The restaurant was not super busy so we opted to eat inside, though they have a patio option that is make-shift as it's in the parking lot. As far as precaution and safety measures, they seemed to be just ok.. Nothing stood out where I felt super safe like I have at some other restaurants. I ordered the Donburi Gyuu don which was good... but nothing out of this world though. The dish got a bit boring and repetitive after a while, wish there was a bit more to it in terms of other ingredients but I have no complaints about the quality of the beef.

[Review was based on experience weeks ago] I had this placed bookmarked for a while and when we got to the plaza to find something to eat, I wanted to try this place out. We decided to order the katsu curry, donburi and zaru soba. We and another table of people were the only ones in the store at that time so I supposed it was not as busy but there was a wait for the food. Everything but the zaru soba came to our table but I was silently glad that I did because I didn't think I could eat two dishes. Portions were okay, my partner thought it was not worth the price. As for the food itself, the katsu was good but it was a little overcooked. I found the rice very wet and clumpy? It was like it part congee, if that makes sense. I believe that it was either the bowl was still wet when rice was put into it or the rice was undercooked. Service was subpar despite a few customers present in the restaurant.

Taki is a fine dining Japanese restaurant located in the busy commerical areas of Richmond Hill…read more We recently had lunch here for a special occasion. The restaurant is super quiet and they offer great quality of food with great service, and the price is expensive if you choose to order sukiyaki set (expect $80+ per person). You can choose between sushi sets at different price level or sukiyaki from the menu. This suits the need of our group given some people prefer sushi but some couldn't eat raw food. They also offer a couple of limited appetizer dishes such as tempuras and unagi don. If you booked the sukiyaki table and want to order sushi, you need to call them in advance to notify which sushi sets you want. We tried the sashimi and sushi courses at $55, which included miso soup, 5 pieces of sashimi, 8 pieces of sushi (squid, toros, salmon, scallop etc.), handroll and matcha or black sesame icecream at your choice. The sushi is smaller than average, suitable for small eaters. The course is totally worth the money. I love every piece of sashimi and my favourite sushi include the scallop and the squid. Everything was super fresh. The dessert was also having the perfect sweetness level for me. In addition, we also tried the sukiyaki for two ($110), which includes mushrooms, cabbages, great quality of Angus beef, yummy tofu and udon. Again, all the material was with great quality and super fresh. I especially liked the sweet sukiyaki soup, the tofu and the udon. We also ordered some shareable dishes including chawanmushi, unagi don and cod. Cod was cooked to perfect (soft and flavourful), and unagi don had quite decent portion. It would be better if the unagi could be softer from my personal opinion. Chawanmushi was mediocre. Overall, I strongly recommend this restaurant to fan of Japanese cuisine. It meets different people's needs by offering both cooked and raw food options, and the sushi set definitely has great value for money.

Was worried it wouldn't be filling, but it's just the right amount of food. Whether you're celebrating something special or just want a traditional Japanese meal, this would be my spot. The sushi chef was very friendly and approachable, but he wouldn't make you feel like you need to yap with him like other omakase I've been to in Toronto where they would talk to the customers a lot. The wait staff was attentive and polite. Overall really good quality sushi, service and value. Would come again! I also appreciate that they don't require a deposit for reservations and don't require to pick the set you want beforehand. Very clean and warm design. Felt like I was in Japan!

Enter either you own info if paying separately or the same info if one person pays all of it. Lots of new dishes as well as old favourites: Chochin: Tried it. Not a fan. Tastes exactly the way I thought it would. Which is internal organ like but in an unpleasant creamy way. Duck liver raspberry toast: Nice but could be bigger. The raspberry brought an expected nice sweetness to the nice liver taste. A little more raspberry would be nice. Tuskune and egg yolk dip: It's ok but not that big a deal. Cheese momo: Fantastic. The swiss cheese is an excellent pairing to the chicken. Skin-Kawa - Delciious. Crispy. Must have, Hiza (knee cartidlidge): nice and crunchy Beef short rubs boneless: Was enticed due to the tendon part. It was nice but not incredible. Beef tenderloin + Chimichurri: Wife's favourite. We always order several of these. P-toro: Another must repeat. Great pork belly taste. Cherry tomato bacon maki: New and delightful. Bacon wrapped cherry tomatoes provide a delightful burst of tomatoey sweetness wrapped with the unctuousness of bacon. Lamb rib chop: Excellent and tasty. Once again everything was cooked perfectly and the amazing binchotan smoke made everything delicious. Fun fact, they put charcoal in the free water carafes as well.

Good food that hurts your wallet…read more Japanese izakayas are few and few between in Markham - that's why I got excited to see Sumoki pop up! It's not on the main street of Unionville, but its presence on a side road matches the quaint nature of the restaurant. It's not the biggest inside, but it gives off a Japanese aesthetic with the wood trim throughout. We made reservations in advance to avoid long lines, if any (thankfully it wasn't packed the night we went). Orders are made via QR code, which seems to be the norm now. I like it since you don't have to waive down waiters in a low-dimmed izakaya. Their main offering seemed to be skewers. We ordered a bunch of them to try - notably, all of them had a nice smoky fragrance to them (maybe that's why it's called Sumoki). We especially enjoyed the Grilled Chicken Skin. Perfect crunch from the initial bite leading to a slight chew throughout. The seasoning was spot on as well. Other honourable mentions include extremely succulent Chicken Thigh meat, Gizzards and Beef Tongue. You could really taste the meat juices from each skewer since the chefs don't overpower it with seasoning. Other local skewer places tend to have the same seasoning across different cuts of meat, so Sumoki felt like a breath of fresh air amongst the growing market. Coincidentally, it's also the first place I've been to offer Giant Rooster Testicles. Now...don't be alarmed. It sounds exotic and might not be everyone's cup of tea, but this dish is extremely creamy. Give it a try if you have the courage! We came to celebrate my brother's birthday, but quickly realized our bill was racking up really quickly despite a small number of orders. Sumoki is definitely a place where you don't want to come on an empty stomach, since each order is 1 skewer (unlike other local restaurants). Other menu items, from what we saw of neighbouring tables, didn't fare much better in terms of portion sizes. We left quickly to avoid some serious financial damage for the 6 of us, but also quickly drove to another impromptu restaurant to get settle our hunger down. Sumoki definitely isn't cheap. I wouldn't recommend this to be a formal dinner - moreso if you wanted a light snack after dinner. But then again, with these prices, Sumoki tries to make itself bougie without delivering 100% satisfaction so maybe try at your own risk.
