Got their sashimi lunch and was surprised by how much additional stuff came with it. It started off with a soup and salad. The salad is the typical garden salad, but the soup was a noodle soup with "gluten" added into it for an additional chew texture, which I enjoyed. The rest then came in a bento box. It came with another soup, but this time the standard miso. The sashimi is more on the basic side, but some of the white fish did come torched, which was extra tasty. To my surprise, it also came with seaweed salad, 3 pieces of maki, and two pieces of gyoza! The gyoza could've been better, but wasn't expecting to have them at all. Overall pretty good. What a lovely local place. We were passing by the area and decided to stop for lunch. Located on Hwy 7, just west of Kennedy, this is not a big place. Parking is right in front and spots are limited. Lots of options on the menu from your standard sushi, rolls, sashimi and even some Korean dishes (dolsot bibimbap). There is a decent list of lunch specials. There was one server but service was quick and attentive). We ordered a bulgogi kimchi fries, small sushi and sashimi tray and a chicken katsu don. Sashimi was fresh and pieces were generous in size. The kimchi fries were sprinkled with bulgogi and topped with kimchi, slivers of seaweed and a drizzle of mayonnaise. Would make a good appetizer with a beer. A small serving of noodle soup and salad were served first and then another bowl of miso soup arrived just before the dishes. Towards the end of the meal we were given a complementary dish of spicy gyoza, which were more sweet and sour than spicy but still delicious. All in all a good experience. After much consideration, we decided to forgo getting any rolls or sushi and just stick with what was included with our lunch. This was our first order: Perfect Lunch Bento Box $26 - which includes your choice of chicken/beef/salmon teriyaki and 3pcs California roll, 3pcs tempura, 3pcs sushi, 3pcs sashimi - miso soup,salad and rice are also included Agedashi Tofu - deep fried tofu with teriyaki sauce - large pieces of deep fried tofu, perfectly battered and crispy. *Green Dragon Roll Before our bento boxes arrived , we were brought 2 small bowls of crunch noodle soup and our salads. The soup is, homemade broth with noodles, tempura crunch and green onions. This has become a fav soup for me, I will get takeout and order this soup for myself or kids when any of us have colds. *With all the confusion on deciding what to order, our server thought we had decided to order Green Dragon Rolls. We apologized for the confusion, but felt it was too much food. We felt bad and said to add it to our bill and we would take it home. Im a regular here and avid fan of this place since opening. However, the sushi in recent years have gone from big pieces ( they're known for) to smaller and smaller everytime single time I visit. We ordered the sashimi sushi roll platter for more than 4 years consistently and the slices of the sashimi keeps becoming thinner and thinner. They usually give salads and noodle as a starter free side dish, but this time I came (from 2 weeks ago) with my family, they only gave us 4 noodle side dish and 2 salads and 2 miso soup, even though there were 4 people. I know this isn't much, but I've been coming for years and each time per head count was given the side dishes regardless of how much we ordered. I'm not being petty, but this cost them next to nothing to provide the extra 2 salads and 2 miso soup that could've easily made a customer happy. It was awkward on how to spilt the salad and miso soup because of this. Unfortunately quality has gone down and prices has gone up. We were lucky to find a spot right out front. The customer service is excellent and the food is good. We came here for lunch on a Saturday. There were a few tables already occupied when we arrived just before noon. Sushi combo had a good selection of sushi - salmon, different types of tuna, shrimp, and 6 pieces of roll (crab, cucumber, avocado). The torch pressed sushi has good sauce but way too much rice and the pieces were too big. The fish was decently fresh. Miso soup was horrible, too salty and little other flavour. So don't order that as a standalone item. Also, the parking situation at this location is a bit awkward. We had to call three times before someone answered to take our order, and then we had to wait an hour before it was ready. The rolls here are huge and can be quite difficult to eat, but we enjoyed the challenge. The House B roll and Legend Dynamite roll were both amazing and had a lot of flavour. The Energy roll and Fantasia roll were awesome with the deep fried unagi or salmon on top, but they were very difficult to eat without breaking. One of the highlights for us was the generous pieces of avocado, which were incredibly fresh and delicious. We'd definitely like to return here to try more of their rolls. Well, with Covid, I finally felt I can take the risk and ordered takeout from here as I had a great yearning for sushi. It was very hard to find the menu on line. It connected you to their Facebook page and then you would have to ask for the menu, to which they didn't respond. I found the menu on Yelp, however, the prices have gone up since then. I called and placed my order - it took 50mins for pick up, which I guess is a sign of the times. They offered a 15% discount for cash which was a bonus! We ordered the 38 piece tray plus an extra spicy salmon sushi. Pick up was a little confusing but no major problem. The sushi platter was great. The size of the pieces were large. Everything was fresh. The rice could have a little more seasoning, but it was quite good still. The variety of was the platter came with was also good. It wasn't filled with all the 'cheap' sushi or rolls. What I also liked was that it didn't have excessive cucumber like others use as fillers to cut cost. Their quality has definitely gone down though. Rice is quite loose, and I can't really taste the sashimi. +.5 for service I really liked this place. The parking situation isn't the best and it can get quite busy, but I still say it's worth what you're getting here. This is one of the few sushi places (although there's been more lately) that have aburi sushi, and honestly I love aburi pressed sushi. Their prices are reasonable for it and it tastes as good as other places I've tried (Kiu, Miku, Wow, etc). Their rolls are excellent too, especially their MushiMushi and Polar Bear rolls. Service is excellent here and if you get to know the employees well you may get some freebies from them, especially if it's not too busy. As is my habit, I go back after the fanfare to try them out. I need to know what a place is like after the glitz and the glamour. MiKi did not disappoint! A warm greeting from the staff when I walked in and shown to our seats. The menu was the typical over-achiever one where there is everything under the sun. Since it was lunch, we ordered their MiKi Lunch Special, some rolls, and the Chicken Karaage. Anyone wanting to try a wide variety of items should go with the Lunch Special. It was really great! You get your ramen muse-bouche (for a lack of a better term) with their appetizer salad, tempura, udon, sushi, sashimi, and California rolls. All items were fresh and tasty. I've been trying the Chicken Karaage recently. I find that everyone has a different take on it. One place just gave me chicken wings. Another place gave me boneless wings. MiKi's version is what I would classify as true to the classic. Boneless chicken morsels, lightly coated, fried, and served with their aioli. The food here is very good, and the restaurant runs well for a new establishment. Then again, their sister restaurant is Hub Sushi in Thornhill and they've been around for quite some time. It's always great not to have to start from scratch. The restaurant is small, as are many on this strip plaza, and parking can be difficult. I was lucky to get a spot right in front, while others parked at other storefronts. Seating is ample and the open kitchen seems inadequate but they make it work really well. The chef is a man of few words with excellent skills with his craft. The staff was busy checking in on all the patrons. Tea and water was refilled as needed and food was served promptly. It's the perfect place to stop by after a walk around Unionville or if you're feeling for something other than the many ice cream places nearby! The fish is fresh and the rolls are huge! Their torched rolls were pretty good, and perfect for those who don't like or cannot eat spicy because they're topped with garlic mayo! Most of the stores do not expect many customers all at once (eg. Spa, cleaners, nail salon, pet grooming etc). For this restaurant they have 3 parking spaces at the front and 3 behind. So if you are looking to come, be sure you have a backup of where to park. Coming in and out of this plaza also do not have the assistance of a traffic light which is risky during busy hours on this already busy street. Interior is small and simple, only seats about 36 and has open kitchen to watch the chefs cook. Before this they were a Hong along style cafe named 金來屋, I can see that not much has been renovated. Same owner as Hub Sushi. Service: Decent and kind service from the 2 servers who often came to refill my tea. They say us at a 2-seater and when my 3 dishes came (eg. 1 sashimi platter and 2 sushi rolls), we literally have no extra space to put anything else. They were very kind when greeting us upon arrival and saying farewells when we were leaving. Food: Please note, this review is soley on Japanese food. Appetizer came with salad and a bite of noodle in soup. Small sashimi platter (40 pcs) The quality was mediocre to disappointing for an a la carte restaurant. Nothing much out of the ordinary however, the presentation is lovely. For the price, I would pay more and go elsewhere for more enjoyable sashimi. Miki Lobster Roll The roll came a bit unlike the image as shown in the menu which got us to question if that was the right roll. Portion was is very generous, it would be a bit difficult to eat the whole piece with one bite. Flavours are decent. Fantastico Roll Also great portion for this deep fried roll. Good thing this one is cut thinner. Decent flavour and texture. No dessert. Overall: Overall, if I were to return it would only be for the rolls (and to try the Korean dishes). The sashimi was a bit too disappointing. And as well I really hope the parking issue improves. read more

New a la carte Japanese restaurant in town! Currently soft opening. Mi Ki Sushi is opened by the same owner as Hub Sushi; you know the food quality is solid ;) It is a cozy restaurant located on Highway 7, with limited parking in front of restaurant. I enjoyed the food at Mi Ki, and the presentation is excellent. I love the open kitchen concept where you can see the chefs at work! Not only does Mi Ki offers delicious sushi and sashimi, there are plenty of cooked items too! I especially love the takoyaki balls and the beef ribs on sizzling plate! I'd definitely be back again! rating closer to 3.5 I quite enjoyed the overall experience at Mi Ki. Location is definitely limiting factor as parking is a pain if they ever get busy. That being said, the interior is clean and staff are friendly as well. However, they didnt have their spicy pork or chicken even though it was only 2pm, so that was a little bummer. Chicken katsu don 3/5 - nothing too out of the ordinary but overall good flavours. more on the sweeter side, but good portion of rice. thinner katsu as well but batter was decently fried. Not overly oily and rice well cooked. Salmon lunch bento 3/5 - a little pricey for a lunch bento but did come with salad, miso soup, appetizer noodles, a few California rolls and nigiri, and spring rolls. Overall the salmon was overcooked but the flavours were not bad. Again sweeter side. Karaage 4/5 - crispy and light on the outside yet juicy chicken meat inside. The batter itself had a little ginger taste to it which I quite enjoyed. Not oily and freshly fried. Honey mustard dipping sauce was different than your mayo, and I didnt mind it but I think I missed the mayo dipping sauce lol Hot Love Roll 4/5 - enjoyed this roll. inside tempura again nicely batter and not too thick of a batter. Good amount of filling and bigger than your typical roll yet ratio of rice was perfect (limited and not overly packed). I didnt dip it in soy sauce as the flavours were enough to carry the whole roll. I liked the scallop as it gave it freshness to the roll. I didnt like how half was scallop and half was tobiko though, couldve just put both on the whole roll instead of half half. Fantasia 3/5 - roll itself wasnt bad, and the spicy mayo on top is always a good idea, but the salmon on top was good but sometimes hard to taste the flavour. also a little overcooked. Many of their rolls are the same shrimp tempura cucumber and avocado base, with the toppings presented being slightly different for variety. I think their rolls are better than their mains. Passed by MiKi and finally called in to order a small snack. hamachi and salmon sashimi , plus spicy salmon roll. Salmon was excellent, thick , fresh. hamachi was good too, although still not completely thaw yet, so slightly too cold and hard. The taste was still good though! Sticky salmon roll had lot more salmon in the core , and not as much rice. It was very nice! Will go back to try other items, or perhaps order a full lunch! read more

This cozy small business is our go-to in the Markham area. We love their sushi platters, their chicken katsu it's also carefully packaged with sauces put aside.
