Came back as I remember getting salmon belly as part of the sashimi order, however this time it was the standard fare. They did however give white tuna which is one of my faves. I would probably just order salmon belly and white tuna separately instead. Cost wise per piece seems pretty good on the sashimi dinner though compared to their party trays. Ordered their torched sushi (eel and scallop on top). It looks good and I could see them torching it, but it wasn't worth it. I'd rather try their soft shell crab. My partner ordered tempura, and that was tasty. We came at 3pm on a weekday and were the only ones there, so service was fine. Fresh fish and good price - what's not to like? We were in the mood for sushi and wanted to try something new. Got recommended this place and saw it was on Ubereats so figured why not. Ordering was simple and quick, food got prepared fairly quickly. Food - sushi combo. One thing that stands out to me was all the fish was fresh and the rice was good texture. They use less rice but I also felt some slices of sashimi were a bit smaller but at the same time decent thickness. The white fish was meaty and flavorful. The salmon had that nice fresh and fattiness. Red snapper had good texture and great flavor. Shrimp had that nice hint of sweetness and firm texture. I enjoyed both the spicy salmon and yam rolls - the filling to rice ratio was great! Chicken karaage - by the time it got to us it had lost a bit of the crispness but still moist and tasty. The soup was fine and the salad was lacking (just a few leaves and some cucumbers and one baby tomato). Price: Not too bad considering the fresh fish. It's a smaller place that only has a few tables, but the service is good and probably one of the better sushi places around, especially for the price. On this visit, ordered Small Sashimi, Sushi, Roll Tray, and Torched Black Pearl and Torched Salmon Pressed Sushi. The Tray was presented beautifully. The fish was fresh and decent quality. The rolls are nice and packed with only a thinner layer of rice. The pressed sushi looked and tasted good. We got the large sushi, sashimi, and roll platter, the sugar mama roll, and the torched salmon roll. All the ingredients - including the fish and veggies were so fresh. You could tell the freshness just from looking at the colour of the fish. The sugar mama roll had tempura bits with scallop, topped with torched white tuna and Japanese mayo. The roll was tasty although I couldn't really taste the scallop. The torched pressed salmon roll was also yummy with their sauce combination. The presentation was lovely, with hand carved butterflies and flowers to garnish. They also gave us a complimentary torched salmon head, which was very kind of them. At Nichiban we ordered the Sashimi party tray (medium size) to bring to a friends place. It was a bit pricey in my opinion for 45 pieces but it had a good mix of sashimi and rolls. The fish as I could tell were pretty fresh and they had a good variety of sashimi in this tray. As a rolls fan, I was pretty happy with quality of the dragon rolls. Also, I think it's because I have a huge family of 11 that I usually like to try good food with, and I think my army would take up at least half the restaurant, easily. New menus!!! I think they have new owners again!!? Had multiple dishes there and i feel like they get better every time. Recently I had the nichban poutine and it was amazball! Its fries on the bottom layered with a bit of cheese then bulgogi beef and on top with kimchi! At first when i had the poutine i had tasted everything seperately like getting the fries with the meat or friend with the kimchi. I was then advised by the chef to mix everything together then enjoyed it. After that my kind waa blown away! Everything tasted much more harmonized then individuals!!! Their nichiban sushi is something else that is my go to. You have a variety of selection of sushi then some torched and pressed sushi. If you wanna try a little of everything this is the go to. A lil tip id say i they are not too generous when it comes to giving their miso soups and salads. If yours come with the combo it will come with it if your didnt you dont get it. This is a quaint, off to the corner sushi place by pmall I've really never thought of eating at. But I was pretty impressed. The restaurant itself is really small... there are only about 7 sets of tables-- a mix of 4 and 2 seaters, so if you plan to come with a bigger group especially, make reservations. I saw several walk in's decide to leave because there was no more space. The server was super nice and maintained communication with my table well. I also appreciated that they didn't make you feel rushed while eating despite that people would be waiting at the door sometimes.. because this is often a problem with Asian restaurants who only care about getting as many people in as they can even if it means sacrificing your dining experience. The quality of the food was fresh. I also enjoyed the way they present the food... they add little flowers/plants as decor. I got the triple combo B which came with a mix of sushi, sashimi, and spicy salmon rolls for $17 before tax/tip. It was just filling enough. The meal also came with salad, which was yummy... I really liked the dressing they used on it, which had a nice citrusy taste. The miso soup was also noticeably better quality than some other places offer. I think this is a hidden gem of a sushi place that people tend to obliviously pass by because it doesn't look too appealing from the outside. Here is a true gem that is easily overlooked but definitely worth a visit. We were at another Japanese restaurant and they had told us that their regular menu was only available for lunch. This didn't sit well with us, so we had looked to Yelp to find another venue and Nichiban Sushi 4 U popped up. I never heard of Nichiban before, but I instantly recognized the location as another favourite food joint is located adjacent to them (Fat Ninja). We decided to give them a try. I can't say we weren't a bit hesitant when we arrived as they are located at the back of the plaza, away from the limited street frontage the plaza could afford. However, I can say with confidence that we were very happy we ate at Nichiban! The service was great, the prices were excellent and most importantly, the food was spectacular! The ingredients were very fresh and full of flavour! The bento box I ordered was well prepared and the food was just right. The chicken katsu was extremely tasty and the gravy was delicious! I loved the tempura: just enough batter to be flavourable and not overwhelming. I could actually see the vegetables underneath the batter, unlike other restaurants that simply oversaturate the batter. The sushi plates were also very good; the sashimi was ultra fresh and the presentation was great! Someone ordered the beef teriyaki bento box and everything was just right! The Snow Valley Speciality Roll is amazing!! I loved how they added a twist to the typical sushi rolls, not only were the rolls big but they were also super tasty! I'd say it's a must buy if you eat at this restaurant! Also, the set we got was plated beautifully, as they put a small tree decor on the side of the platter. Other than that, the other rolls tasted similar to any other average Japanese sushi restaurant you'd expect. However, I must say the waiter was extremely helpful with helping my party input the WiFi (as we struggled to for a good 10 minutes) and was very polite the whole night. Nichiban is my go-to sushi spot in Scarborough! The prices are amazing for the quality of sushi that they serve! I used to frequent here pre-pandemic, and you can tell from the pictures that they put a lot of effort in their presentation. After all, we eat with our eyes first! I had pretty high expectations coming in after seeing Yelp and Google reviews but my experience was just average. It's a relatively small restaurant hidden in the back of a tiny plaza. I came on a Thursday night and it wasn't packed but perhaps that's because of all the construction on the road. I wasn't too fond of the salad dressing (it looked really thick and white) and the miso soup was pretty salty. The presentation of the sashimi dinner was beautiful and the quality of fish was fresh. Found this when on google maps when I was in the area. It's right across from Pacific Mall in a very small strip mall with extremely limited parking. The store itself is quite small and they only have one server so be patient if you do plan to come. Parking might also be an issue because it's so limited. I ordered the fire Antique Dragon Roll $15, Black Dragon Pearls $19 and the Fire Attack Roll $17. All were super delicious but the best was definitely the back dragon pearls. The rolls themselves are quite large which justifies the price a bit more. These are all of their special rolls and I don't think you can wrong with any of their special rolls! Atmosphere 3/5 Pretty average, not too fancy. Pretty casual place. No crazy decor. Service 4/5 Pretty good service and attentive. Friendly as well. Food 4/5 The quality is there and definitely higher than all you can eat sushi. You can taste the difference. Anyone who showed up after us, was out of luck! I ordered the small sashimi party tray - 30 pieces for $30. My hubby and I really enjoyed it - it was super fresh! I also ordered the Tonkatsu ramen for $10 and my hubby ordered the Korean ramen ($10) with chicken ($2 extra). While I liked the ramen, I felt it was average. My hubby's ramen ended up being too spicy for him. Service was very polite and courteous but on the slow side. We also had to ask for our tea to be refilled a number of times, although in fairness, there was a large party there at the same time as us, and only one waitress. The amount of wasabi between the fish and the rice was also perfect, and I only needed to add a touch of soy sauce. Our server was also friendly and answered all our questions. I've been coming to this sushi restaurant for years, so I figured it was time to update my review. The sushi here is delicious, and it's always served in some kind of beautiful arrangement (see photos). My favourites are the spicy salmon, dynamite rolls, and sushi pizza. Honestly you can't go wrong with the food at this place, everything is really good!! My only complaint is that there's usually only one waiter working which makes the service slow around dinner time when the restaurant is full. This place is located behind the Petro has station across from pacific mall but be warned- there is very VERY limited parking (minus one star for that).
