Good service. We stayed for 2 hours on Father's Day and were not rushed. Sushi rolls always good. Bento boxes are adequate if looking for good value
Fresh fish and good price - what's not to like? We were in the mood for sushi and wanted to try something new. Got recommended this place and saw it was on Ubereats so figured why not. Ordering was simple and quick, food got prepared fairly quickly. Food - sushi combo. One thing that stands out to me was all the fish was fresh and the rice was good texture. They use less rice but I also felt some slices of sashimi were a bit smaller but at the same time decent thickness. The white fish was meaty and flavorful. The salmon had that nice fresh and fattiness. Red snapper had good texture and great flavor. Shrimp had that nice hint of sweetness and firm texture. I enjoyed both the spicy salmon and yam rolls - the filling to rice ratio was great! Chicken karaage - by the time it got to us it had lost a bit of the crispness but still moist and tasty. The soup was fine and the salad was lacking (just a few leaves and some cucumbers and one baby tomato). Price: Not too bad considering the fresh fish. Definitely come back for their raw fish, maybe pass on cooked items.
We got the large sushi, sashimi, and roll platter, the sugar mama roll, and the torched salmon roll. All the ingredients - including the fish and veggies were so fresh. You could tell the freshness just from looking at the colour of the fish. The sugar mama roll had tempura bits with scallop, topped with torched white tuna and Japanese mayo. The roll was tasty although I couldn't really taste the scallop. The torched pressed salmon roll was also yummy with their sauce combination. The presentation was lovely, with hand carved butterflies and flowers to garnish. They also gave us a complimentary torched salmon head, which was very kind of them. It wasn't over cooked at all and I enjoyed the smokiness of the meat.
Tucked in the back of a small, easy to miss plaza, with not much parking. It's a smaller place that only has a few tables, but the service is good and probably one of the better sushi places around, especially for the price. On this visit, ordered Small Sashimi, Sushi, Roll Tray, and Torched Black Pearl and Torched Salmon Pressed Sushi. The Tray was presented beautifully. The fish was fresh and decent quality. The rolls are nice and packed with only a thinner layer of rice. The pressed sushi looked and tasted good. However I have to say, having made subsequent visits, the presentation is not always as good, and assortment of fish sometimes lacking.
A great option for sushi! The food is tasty and has excellent presentation. There are also vegetarian options available including some Maki rolls and tempura. The staff are nice and provided good service. The atmosphere is a smaller and casual setting.
A bit of a disclaimer for anyone reading this review; I am not the biggest seafood fan. I tend to avoid eating a lot of fish or most things with a sea water taste. So hopefully my review does help those with similar palettes as mine where they don't like most seafood but still enjoy sushi. At Nichiban we ordered the Sashimi party tray (medium size) to bring to a friends place. It was a bit pricey in my opinion for 45 pieces but it had a good mix of sashimi and rolls. The fish as I could tell were pretty fresh and they had a good variety of sashimi in this tray. As a rolls fan, I was pretty happy with quality of the dragon rolls. Call me basic but I will always be a fan of avocado with my sushi. Aside from that, there weren't any specialty rolls that made this place stand out from other sushi restaurants.
TLDR: Yummy, fresh, good bang for your buck, and beautifully presented. As appropriate for a casual date as it is for friends to hangout! Maybe not for huge family gatherings, since it's a quaint place, but it's perfect for everything else :) (Slightly) longer review for those not in a hurry: Taste (5/5) : I've always loved my AYCE. Although Nichiban is not an AYCE sushi place, my friend and I stuffed ourselves to the max, and the price came to the same as an AYCE sushi place these days. The quality of food we got though, was so much better! You can trust Nichiban to have the freshest cuts of the day, and their house platter gives you a good idea on the creativity of the chefs in-house. Balancing both classic flavours and more innovative approaches to traditional sushi, I loved the balance of creaminess with savoury notes and subtle sweetness of the rice and fish in the background. I ordered the house platter, wasabi tako (octopus), catch of the day uni sashimi, and chirashi (chopped sashimi on rice). When I go for sushi, usually I end the night with an overwhelming taste of sushi rice vinegar and seaweed, but with Nichiban, each dish had its own flare, and the flavours never dulled out each other. SO YUMMY! Place (4.5/5) : The place was a little small - but I think there's a classic, simple quaintness about it. Also, I think it's because I have a huge family of 11 that I usually like to try good food with, and I think my army would take up at least half the restaurant, easily. That's the only reason I would deduct 0.5 points - this place might not be the best for large groups, especially if you're looking during the rush hour. Otherwise, the place was very clean, interiors were simple and casually refined, and great for a good chill session (unlike other places that are too glaringly loud to even hear each other). Service was also attentive and clean! I got there around closing time, but I never felt pressured to leave (though I absolutely left before closing so I wouldn't hold up their business). New menus!!! I think they have new owners again!!? Had multiple dishes there and i feel like they get better every time. Recently I had the nichban poutine and it was amazball! Its fries on the bottom layered with a bit of cheese then bulgogi beef and on top with kimchi! At first when i had the poutine i had tasted everything seperately like getting the fries with the meat or friend with the kimchi. I was then advised by the chef to mix everything together then enjoyed it. After that my kind waa blown away! Everything tasted much more harmonized then individuals!!! Their nichiban sushi is something else that is my go to. You have a variety of selection of sushi then some torched and pressed sushi. If you wanna try a little of everything this is the go to. A lil tip id say i they are not too generous when it comes to giving their miso soups and salads. If yours come with the combo it will come with it if your didnt you dont get it. It doesnt matter if you went in a party of 4 or 6 if 5 of ur friends ordered things that came with it and you didnt, you're left out.
This is a quaint, off to the corner sushi place by pmall I've really never thought of eating at. But I was pretty impressed. The restaurant itself is really small... there are only about 7 sets of tables-- a mix of 4 and 2 seaters, so if you plan to come with a bigger group especially, make reservations. I saw several walk in's decide to leave because there was no more space. The server was super nice and maintained communication with my table well. I also appreciated that they didn't make you feel rushed while eating despite that people would be waiting at the door sometimes.. because this is often a problem with Asian restaurants who only care about getting as many people in as they can even if it means sacrificing your dining experience. The quality of the food was fresh. I also enjoyed the way they present the food... they add little flowers/plants as decor. I got the triple combo B which came with a mix of sushi, sashimi, and spicy salmon rolls for $17 before tax/tip. It was just filling enough. The meal also came with salad, which was yummy... I really liked the dressing they used on it, which had a nice citrusy taste. The miso soup was also noticeably better quality than some other places offer. I think this is a hidden gem of a sushi place that people tend to obliviously pass by because it doesn't look too appealing from the outside. I had a great experience here and would recommend to anyone (for smaller groups).
Super cute location, but limited parking in this plaza. Pricing is very reasonable! Got the ramen and gyoza and probably spent about $15 on the whole meal. Definitely going back to try the sushi!
The Snow Valley Speciality Roll is amazing!! I loved how they added a twist to the typical sushi rolls, not only were the rolls big but they were also super tasty! I'd say it's a must buy if you eat at this restaurant! Also, the set we got was plated beautifully, as they put a small tree decor on the side of the platter. Other than that, the other rolls tasted similar to any other average Japanese sushi restaurant you'd expect. However, I must say the waiter was extremely helpful with helping my party input the WiFi (as we struggled to for a good 10 minutes) and was very polite the whole night. The sushi chefs were also very friendly and happily waved and said goodbye to us as we left the restaurant.
Nichiban is my go-to sushi spot in Scarborough! The prices are amazing for the quality of sushi that they serve! I used to frequent here pre-pandemic, and you can tell from the pictures that they put a lot of effort in their presentation. After all, we eat with our eyes first! I've ordered takeout here a few times since and you can tell they carefully package each order! They always leave a thoughtful note and they always include a cute soy sauce dish :) The only downside is that the parking lot is tight, but the food is worth it!!
We got 2 bento boxes lunch special 1 teriyaki chicken one spicy salmon bento box The staff was very welcoming the waitress was super polite and gave us tea constantly the teriyaki was good but to much onion and the tayoyaki ball was super hot and very tasty with the Bonita's flakes. The main part is the sushi good product spicy crab roll good heat nice and crispy accompanied with salad and miso soup delicious overall not bad but I want to try other sushi places to explore

Round 2, coming back for good value and good sushi. Came at a off hour, 2pm and the restaurant was quiet. Tempura Bento - Came with miso soup, salad, California roll, 2 gyozas, rice, 2 shrimp and 4 pc veggies. They must have given more before because there was alot of empty space in this bento. Gyoza skins were hard pretty terrible to chew on. Tempura was nice, crispy and came out hot. California roll was pretty standard. In all a decent set. Torched sushi Unagi and hotate - 3 blocks of rice with a bit of unagi and scallop on top. It felt a bit unbalanced and expensive for what it is. Would not recommend. read more

I had pretty high expectations coming in after seeing Yelp and Google reviews but my experience was just average. It's a relatively small restaurant hidden in the back of a tiny plaza. I came on a Thursday night and it wasn't packed but perhaps that's because of all the construction on the road. I wasn't too fond of the salad dressing (it looked really thick and white) and the miso soup was pretty salty. The presentation of the sashimi dinner was beautiful and the quality of fish was fresh. My friend got the sushi teriyaki bento box but was not blown away by the taste. All in all average experience. read more

Totally average sushi. I guess in this neighbourhood, it's an okay choice. Ordered the Sushi A Lunch (~$13) to go - 8 pieces of nigiri and 6 pieces of California roll. The California rolls was good, rice wasn't too thick and the veggies were fresh. On the other hand, some of the the fish for the nigiri weren't the greatest. The seared one and the beige one (not tilapia) were quite fishy and didn't taste very fresh. Thickness of the fish was good, good proportion to the amount of rice. Lunch deal comes with soup and salad too. The salad was pretty bad though, the lettuce was all browning and probably looked like it was frozen. Probably won't come back as there's nothing worth a return for. read more

My friend recommended me this place near Pacific Mall, nothing fake about this sushi. I ordered a party tray worth $100 cash. It had sashimi, sushi's and rolls and I ordered a side of spicy salmon and spider roll. Just writing about it is making me hungry. From now on this will be my sushi spot. The service is super accommodating and very friendly. Amazing and soooo good. Very fresh and very professional. Thank you and see u tomorrow. read more

Found this when on google maps when I was in the area. It's right across from Pacific Mall in a very small strip mall with extremely limited parking. The store itself is quite small and they only have one server so be patient if you do plan to come. Parking might also be an issue because it's so limited. I ordered the fire Antique Dragon Roll $15, Black Dragon Pearls $19 and the Fire Attack Roll $17. All were super delicious but the best was definitely the back dragon pearls. The rolls themselves are quite large which justifies the price a bit more. These are all of their special rolls and I don't think you can wrong with any of their special rolls! Overall i would highly recommend and look forward to returning! read more
Reason for Visit: Looking for a decent Japanese restaurant that won't break the bank. Menu: The items are on the pricier end of things ~$14 per roll. We got their signature fire attack roll, which was pretty cool. I never saw anyone light up the sushi in fire like that, the taste was alright. We also got their large sushi sashimi roll platter, very beautifully made. Fish was very fresh, decent generous portions, not too much rice. I do also note that the chefs are Japanese which explains how the food is a lot more authentic. Complimentary grilled salmon head for the table. The head was delicious! Very kind and generous of them. really makes the meal a lot more enjoyable and tasty when you get some freebies. Service: One waitress serves entire restaurant. It sounds bad, but the restaurant really isn't that big so service was actually quite good. Waitress was very polite and pleasant. Atmosphere: There were many 5 tables total in entire restaurant. Cozy, small environment. I do note, there is really no parking so you might have to park across the street. Overall: If you are looking for something a bit pricier but significant better, then this is the place to go to. You are looking at ~$20-25 a person, but it really is quite worth it in quality. This is also a great place to take someone out for a date as it really is a hidden gem. However, if you looking to come in a big group, make sure you call and reserve ahead of time. read more
I have been here twice one for dine in and one for take out. The place isn't huge, so if you have a a big group, the I highly advised making a reservation a head of time. They have like seven tables, mainly for groups of four. The place is located at the southeast corner of Kennedy and Steeles Avenue. A lot of people order take out from here. Atmosphere 3/5 Pretty average, not too fancy. Pretty casual place. No crazy decor. Service 4/5 Pretty good service and attentive. Friendly as well. Food 4/5 The quality is there and definitely higher than all you can eat sushi. You can taste the difference. Overall, price versus quality is definitely reasonable but it is on the middle range to high side. Definitely worth coming here. Only downside, really limited parking.... Decided to check out Nichiban tonight. We got there at the right time and managed to get seating, luckily, without any wait. The seating really is limited! Anyone who showed up after us, was out of luck! I ordered the small sashimi party tray - 30 pieces for $30. My hubby and I really enjoyed it - it was super fresh! I also ordered the Tonkatsu ramen for $10 and my hubby ordered the Korean ramen ($10) with chicken ($2 extra). While I liked the ramen, I felt it was average. My hubby's ramen ended up being too spicy for him. Service was very polite and courteous but on the slow side. We also had to ask for our tea to be refilled a number of times, although in fairness, there was a large party there at the same time as us, and only one waitress. There was a steady stream of take out orders while we were there - maybe this is the way to go next time. I will definitely return in the future - either for take out or dine in. read more

A little gem tucked away in the corner of a small plaza. Due to the size of the plaza, parking is minimal and could be a little annoying and troublesome. The size of the restaurant is relatively small (has a capacity of about 20 people), so I highly recommend making reservations for larger groups. We arrived at around 7 PM on a Friday night, and the place was already packed with people waiting at the door. We ordered two sushi combos, the Triple Combo B and the 888 Combo (which included one Special roll of your choice). Before your main course arrives, they serve you a small bowl of salad and miso soup. I really enjoyed the salad because the dressing was light and refreshing but flavourful. The fish was fresh and the Mountain Roll was HUGE and tasty! Overall, the service is good and the price you pay is fair. If you're in the area, this place is a great spot for a la cart sushi. read more

I've been here on multiple occasions and I still think it's one of the hidden gems in the area! It's your hole in the wall type of place that is good for bentos and fresh sushi! I would suggest coming for lunch. Their lunch specials end at 4pm so if you're anything like me (late riser) then this is honestly a perfect spot! The parking is limited in this hidden plaza so just be aware of that. read more
Really good fresh fish. The texture was soft and buttery, and the thickness was just the right size too (for both the sashimi cut and the sushi cut). The fish layered on top of the rice for the sushi was not too thick or too thin, and you can eat the whole piece in one bite, like you're supposed to with sushi. The amount of wasabi between the fish and the rice was also perfect, and I only needed to add a touch of soy sauce. Our server was also friendly and answered all our questions. The place is a little small. We came on a week day, and so we pretty had the place to ourselves, but I wonder if it might be more busy during the weekends. read more

Nichiban Sushi is one of my favourite sushi take out places in town. Been ordering platters from them for as long as I can remember. Occasionally, I would try new sushi take out places here and there, but were turned off by the mushy, freezer brunt sashimi, and "bad-rice"... Nichiban still keeps me coming back for more. I can always count on them for the quality sashimi and sushi. Highly recommended :) #worthyourmoney This place has been here for decades, and it was originally called Ichiban Sushi. It started off as a tiny take out sushi store / fish market, and then turned into a tiny restaurant - offering not only quality sashimi and sushi, but also authentic Korean food (yummy pork bone soup!). Pre-ordered a Medium Party Tray for $55 a few days ago, and picked it up this evening. It includes an assortment of sashimi, nigiri sushi and maki rolls. Comes with soy sauce, wasabi, sweetened ginger and chopsticks - all packed up and ready to go when I arrive at said time. I'm also very pleased with the friendly service... the sweet lady (possibly owner?) always puts a smile on my face :) Coming back soon for my next party needs! P.S. It can be a bit tricky getting to this restaurant. Head north on Kennedy Road towards Steeles Avenue, turn right right before Petro Canada to save you some trouble :) More parking spaces behind the restaurant. read more

Nichiban Sushi Takeout Platter did go downhill lately. The fish selection is repetitive and you get the same selection for both sashimi and sushi in the same platter. The sashimi was usually cut without care and some pieces were still stuck together and some looked like odds and ends. Without the 10% cash pick up discount it is no longer as good as before with the decline in quality. Maybe eating in now is a better option? read more
Came here after walking around Pacific mall, and that 5 minute walk across the street was well worth it! Despite it being advertised as a takeout shop, there's a place to sit comfortably 888 Special combo (~$23) for 8 pcs of sashimi 8pcs sushi, 8pcs roll of your choice Good variety of sushi, tastes fresh, beautiful presentation. Ordered the white tuna roll (last oneon the page) and it was absolutely melt-in-your-mouth fantastic It's a really good deal I would come back here again for another sushi fix! read more
I came here during lunch on a weekday so it was fairly empty. It's kind of small and it has limited parking space. Their lunch set is decent price. It comes with salad and miso soup. I got the sushi/roll set which is 20 pieces for $13.99 The overall quality of sushi was ok and depending on the fish, the quality differs. The salmon and butter fish was good and fresh, however the tuna was not good, having a weird texture... Overall it was a good experience, good portion size and quality for the price being paid and friendly service even with only one server working that day. read more

This is a pretty good mid-range sushi place with decent quality and the price reflects that (somewhat pricy). I think this is more of a takeout place because the few times we come here, there's always no one dining in. My boyfriend and I got a medium platter for dine-in and we were pretty happy with what we got. Total came to $55 after tax and tips but we both weren't really that full (and no we aren't obese) so this place is definitely on the pricier side. Side note: park at Pacific Mall and just walk here cause there's probably only 10 parking spots in this 'plaza'. read more
A hidden gem opposite to the pacific mall. Small but lovely, from the soybean sauce bottle and its stone pad, you can tell that they put lots of efforts into the operations. The snow valley roll was yum! They put big chunks of avocado into the rolls, covered with torched white tuna and mayo, great flavor combo! The yam roll was good too. My yam was not cooked through, but the thin rice & batter and teriyaki sauce covered that drawback. Will revisit next time when we are around the pacific mall! read more

I've been coming to this sushi restaurant for years, so I figured it was time to update my review. The sushi here is delicious, and it's always served in some kind of beautiful arrangement (see photos). My favourites are the spicy salmon, dynamite rolls, and sushi pizza. Honestly you can't go wrong with the food at this place, everything is really good!! My only complaint is that there's usually only one waiter working which makes the service slow around dinner time when the restaurant is full. However the staff here are always very polite so I think that makes up for the service. read more
