Really good spot! The sushi was pretty tasty and I'd come back. Overall: 4/5 Food - 4/5 Soup 4.2/5 - not sure what kind of soup it was but it was really tasty! Really enjoyed it Tuna sashimi and salad - 3.8/5 - may have been really good quality tuna, but felt it was bland, but that has nothing to do with the restaurant really Sushi box - 4.2/5 - all of the pieces were super fresh and tasty. I'd definitely get again! Ambiance - 5/5 - loved the aesthetic, was really unique and also has great dim lighting to chat with your party Service - 5/5 - all very friendly workers

I got the aburi chef sushi set because it seemed to be their popular sushi option. Unfortunately it was all one note and underwhelming. Don't get me wrong I like seared nigiri pieces but all of them (even tho it was different fish) tasted the same. seared + some kind of sauce. Def room for improvement: wish they incorporated different sauce so that it wasn't exactly copy and paste. Maybe have some with yuzu sauce to cut down on the oiliness? After 5-6 pieces, they all started to taste same and greasy. Right now they have a $1/salmon sashimi January promotion (5x minimum order) and I found it fresh and tasty. Would get again. This place is suppose to be a sushi and a taco spot so I had to try their taco. The waitress said the bulgogi taco was a popular once again, it was ehhh. The beef was flavorful but the guacamole that they used tasted like store bought guac. From a texture standpoint, it was too mushy for me. The guac ratio was off too, it had wayyy too much guac vs meat ratio. I went there on a Sunday afternoon and there were only two other tables there. I was eating by myself and I felt like the service was TOO efficient which I don't think is a good thing. Hear me out... Before I could finish chewing my last piece of nigiri the waitress came to take my plate away. I didn't even get to eat my ginger. While it's nice to have attentive service staff, I felt very rushed Overall I think this spot has potential so I'll give them another shot

Very good day to day sushi spot. Sashimi is fresh. Staff is friendly. Presentation of food is nice. Lots of options. Take out boats are great for dinners. 10% off if you pay cash.

Came for some late night (9:30PM) sushi and tacos and were glad they didn't turn us away! Really enjoyed my unagi avocado pressed sushi (8/10). It was a lot bigger than I expected! My bf got a beef bulgogi (6.5/10) and fish soft tacos (5/10). We also got takoyaki (8/10) since it was happy hour, which I liked but my bf didn't. Everything was a lot more filling than expected! Ambiance and decorations are super cute. Service was polite and attentive. Overall would visit again, although the menu felt a little limited and happy hour prices seemed to be basically normal menu prices, with the exception of a few items (takoyaki being one)

After seeing many videos on this place advertising the fusion between Japanese and Mexican food, I visited in June to take advantage of their gozen sets. This included your choice of chirashi don ($35), unagi don ($32), or salmon avocado don ($31), as well as an assortment of sides (guac'n'raw, assorted sashimi, chicken karaage, takoyaki, croquette, tako wasabi seaweed salad, and crispy pressed sushi). It was such a great way to sample everything they had. Along with this deal, they also had $1/pc salmon sashimi, as well as $1/oz sake (hot or cold). My favourite was the crispy rice and potato croquette (crispy on the outside, creamy on the inside). Everything was tasty, but the guac'n'raw was a unique twist. With avocado being such a beloved ingredient in most sushi rolls, there's no way it wouldn't have worked paired with sashimi and chips! The sashimi was also fresh. My one critique would be that I asked for no wasabi in anything (anticipating that they would mix it with the octopus/tako wasabi) and it still came with it - they simply omitted it on the side. Overall, we had a great experience and I'm glad I got to try them.

Unassuming sushi spot on Queen West. The warm glow of neon greets you as you walk in. The menu is vast with a mix of traditional Japanese faire as well as fusion options (tacos!). I ordered the small hot sake which was a respite on a cold winter day. We shared the love platter amongst the three of us. There was not a single thing in the platter we didn't enjoy. We especially loved the aburi sushi on the platter. There was enough food to easily feed three people. The server came by frequently to take dishes and refill water without asking. If you leave a review, you get a free Japanese Cheesecake dessert, however, I was planning on leaving a review anyways as the food was just that good. I would recommend to anyone looking for a chill group outing with friends.

Love the fusion dishes here at Saku. The sushi was yummy and they were HUGE. Plenty of seating around and the service was quick & attentive. Will come back for the happy hour next time, great for a quick bite or enjoy it with a date or a group of friends!

We were craving sushi while visiting Toronto and this spot was great. We ordered the Salmon Sushi Platter which was great for two adults and our daughter. We also ordered the Lobster Taco which was amazing. I highly recommended trying this! It's so flavorful. We also ordered the Korean karrage taco but I didn't really care for it. It's good but the Lobster taco was my favorite! And of course, we had to try the giant Nigiri which was great.

A friend and I came here for dinner. She rarely comes downtown and she tends to avoid downtown because of the crazy traffic. Parking was very difficult to find. We came on a Monday night and we got a seat right away. I ordered the combo A for one which came with chef's selection of 8 pcs sushi, spicy salmon avocado roll and a miso soup. My friend got the Poseidon roll. I tried a piece of my friend's Poseidon roll and it was very delicious. The presentation of my combo was very elegant. The meal didn't look big but it was quite filling. The flavor was very unique and interesting. It was different compared to the sushi I tend to get in Vancouver for sure. The restaurant serves Japanese - Korean fusion style sushi and taco. Everything was fresh. We came on a Monday night and was quite surprised how quiet it was. We walked in and immediately got a table. The décor is very modern. I highly recommend coming here to try their food if you have not been.

We visited Saku for the first time thanks to Winterlicious in Toronto. The dinner menu was $45 for 3 courses with a complimentary starter; truffle dumpling soup. The meal was so filling and the food was delicious! I've heard very great things about Saku and I am glad that it exceeded my expectations. The food was great, the vibes were there & the service was outstanding. For the three course meal, we got to pick an appetizer, main & dessert. I opted for the salmon crudo, 2 tacos (lobster + octopus & shrimp) and salmon pressed sushi, and yuzu mousse cake. The tacos were so flavourful & quite filling. I will definitely return back to try their regular menu. The perfect date night spot or hangout with friends.

Eating sushi in Toronto doesn't have to break the bank. This Japanese restaurant has a chill vibe and decent quality sushi at affordable prices. They have a happy hour starting 9 PM, so it's a good option if you're craving sushi for a late night meal.

Came here last night & we are absolutely OBSESSED! We just happened to be having cocktails next door and were feeling hungry so good thing this place was right next door. We liked the aesthetics so decided to sit down for a bite to eat. We were first seated at a table in the back but the whole entire table was shaking??? We asked our server for another table and they brought us to a booth :) We both got drinks on the happy hour menu... I ordered the lychee sangria and it was scrumdillyumptious!!!!! My boyfriend got the old fashioned & he rated it a solid 7 outta 10. For food we asked our server what was best. To be honest I'm not even sure what we ordered but everything was so good, we left NO CRUMBS. We started with the pork gyoza and the sauce it came it was delicious. The crispy tuna was my favorite. All in all... a great late night spot to go to. Would highly recommend going here. The drinks & food were amazing. The staff was friendly and accommodating. We left with big smiles on our faces!

Absolutely love this restaurant. Who wouldn't?! Love me some sushi and tacos! Everything was delicious and the service was great too! The rolls are huge and very filling.

It's my go-to spot to get my don fix - I love the wide variety of dons (rice bowls) that they offer with various fish and seafood combinations. There are also unique appetizers in the menu, such as Purple Yam Croquettes, Crab Crackers, Braised Bamboo Shoots with Shirasu (immature whitebait fish), and Takowasa (marinated raw octopus pieces, to be eaten with or wrapped in nori / seaweed). Although the dons are the main highlight of their menu (hence the restaurant name), they also offer traditional sushi, sashimi, sushi rolls and sets (similar to other Japanese sushi restaurants). Miso Aburi Scallops were very flavourful - nicely torched, giving the scallops a nice grill / char taste. They came with red and green seaweed, and a bit of fish roe. Large Premium Hana Don contained a good amount of fish and seafood, including a whole abalone, uni, shrimp in the shell, aburi salmon, ikura (salmon roe), salmon sashimi, tuna sashimi, yellowtail sashimi, other various fish sashimi, tamago (egg), and a few slices of cucumber on a generous bed of rice. I liked that the rice was a mix of white rice and some type of dark-coloured grains. Unatama Don came with a big piece of unagi and tamago (egg) that were both excellent. The sashimi were all fresh. Okonomiyaki was disappointing but it was sort of expected... for only $9, it was about 99% just flour pan-fried in a patty, without any substantial fillings (unlike real okonomiyaki, which usually contains protein / seafood, cabbage, eggs, and other ingredients). Location is super convenient near Bay & Dundas, ambiance is very casual, and service is quick.

The menu is set up to where you pick the entree and then what type of protein you want out of pork loin, chicken, fish, cheese, and sweet potato cheese. I settled on the sweet chili katsu. A piece of chicken arrived on a plate accompanied with rice and shredded cabbage. The chicken was breaded in a light panko like crumb and was half covered in the sweet chili sauce. I ate a couple of pieces and the crisp texture and flavor was wonderful. I had a bite of rice and when I got to the cabbage to my dismay I found a long piece of hair in it. I immediately lost my appetite and all I could think about was how great the two bites of chicken was. I gave up the plate and showed the staff what I found. They offered another plate a couple of times and after I declined a refund was issued. Katsuya. sucks for serving me one of the best pieces of breaded chicken in my life with hair in the food. I'm struggling to hold back the tears now as I write. I did get to try the parmesan fries which were ok. I also tasted the udon which is not one of their stronger dishes. This probably would have been five stars had it not been for the hair. I know this happens on the rare occasion but probably shouldn't if hair nets are worn. If you do try out this place, expect great katsuya.
