    Chicken Chow Mein
    Stacie S.

I've had really good food here before, but we just ordered and I got Chicken Chow Mein. Just wanted to give people a heads up that their version is just veggies and no noodles. Every picture I google of chow mein has noodles and their's looks nothing like it. I cannot eat what they served. It has no flavor and has a gel like substance on it. Really disappointed I just wasted money. Would have been nice to know. I guess I'll be more careful about what I order from here and stick to what I know is the same at all restaurants like general tso chicken. It'd be helpful to add pictures or a description to the menu.

    AWESOME lunch specials!

Let me start by saying this -- Young's Kitchen is the FRESHEST Chinese food I have ever eaten. Hands down. POSITIVES: - Locally owned for over 17 years. - Changed owner one time 12 years ago. They run a tight ship and are extremely busy with delivery orders so the food is 100% made to order and as fresh as it gets! - The atmosphere is a step up from other strip mall joints. - Lunch specials are all $5.75 and includes a meal, fried rice, and a drink! Whhhattt? - Everything is made fresh in house. I asked the owner the recipe for the sweet and sour chicken we ordered because I could not believe how pipping hot and fresh it was and she said they cut and prepare the chicken the night before with spices and just drop each one to order the next day until they run out, and then they do it all over again. - Our total bill with egg rolls, spring rolls (which were delicious btw), two lunches, two drinks was only $16 bucks! SO CHEAP! NEGATIVES: Only one -- I ordered a level 10 on the spice of my General Tso's and it came out a 2. Weak sauce but still incredibly tasty and fresh. FINAL THOUGHT: It's actually really sad that we have become accustomed to bad Chinese food, and we settle because we think that's all there is. When it's good... realllly good...you can never go back to eating that crap. I cannot recommend this place enough. Take-out delivery, lunch/dinner, wherever you are if you see this place pop up and you are reading this to make a decision, HIT THE DIRECTIONS BUTTON NOW AND GO! (Thank you Yelp once again for steering me in the right direction! Shout out to Roth M for always finding these little hole-in-the-wall joints too!)

100% a hole-in-the-wall, but Young's is a decidedly fair fix if you're craving Amer-Chinese food. I would strongly suggest takeout rather than dine-in (they do not even offer tap water, you have to buy bottled), since this isn't a spot you come to for fine service or ambiance. I REALLY appreciate that Young's has a "Weight Watchers" menu, i.e., food prepared without salt or fat, and choice of brown or garlic sauce on the side. Usually I avoid Chinese American fare because it hurts my stomach unbearably with all the grease, salt and MSG (and I'm a girl that loves her burgers and fries). But this was a perfectly lovely option to have, and my steamed shrimp and broccoli with carrots was delicious: the shrimp were huge, tender and plentiful (no 3-5 skimpy little pieces). The broccoli and carrots were crisp-tender and colorful and getting to add the sauce on the side to taste was perfect. We went the opposite spectrum with the other entree, my childhood favorite of General Tso's chicken (served with fried rice and an egg roll). This was your typical greasy, satisfyingly flavorful overload of deep-fried sugary-salty American Chinese. The egg roll was mehhhh, not great. I tried several bites of the chicken and can attest to how crunchy, steamy hot and fresh it was. However, my daughter and I both found the sauce to be overwhelmingly sweet, sticky-gluey and jamm-y. Surprisingly, we both preferred MY healthier entree - so I consider that a hugely successful feat for this restaurant. Also, I tried a bowl of the egg drop soup and thought it was one of the best that I've tasted. Overall our 2 entrees, 1 soup and 2 bottled waters totaled $23. So I definitely see future take-out trips to Young's - and in a delightfully different twist, not for greasy Chinese but healthier and affordable options!

The gentleman asked if we had reservations. We did not. He simply said, "Then we'll have three more guests for the evening" or something along those lines. He was very kind. Before our friend arrived, a woman stopped by to welcome us. Top notch service so far! The ambiance is beautiful. The lighted tree and decor behind us was a lot, but it felt tasteful. Jack, our server, stopped by to get us water. When our friend arrived we had a lot to talk about. Jack stopped by several times and was very chill about us taking our time. He said he didn't mind if we still weren't ready and he'd return to check on us as often as necessary. Again, kindness and patience abound at Oriental Wok. The Ma La Dumplings were absolutely delicious. The filling was delicious and the spice level, which we knew would be spicy, was perfect. Truly a wonderful bite. I had Five-Spice Tofu. The tofu was crispy as advertised and the greens were in a very light and delectable sauce. Green onions were sprinkled with the greens. I feel sometimes greens like these are an afterthought at many restaurants. At Oriental Wok they were as much a star as the crispy tofu. Mark had Orange Chicken and thoroughly enjoyed it. He mentioned the orange flavor was perfect. Either Jack asked if we wanted dessert and I missed it or he didn't ask. Our friend thought maybe he did and she said no, but she couldn't be sure. I just remember him stopping by to ask if we needed boxes. Anyway, next thing I knew we had our checks. I really wanted dessert, but I took it as a sign it was time for us to wrap up. I'm absolutely certain he would have been more than happy to bring us some dessert and update our checks, so going without was on me and that's cool. I think it's safe to say we will be back!

We got a side of the chili oil which were perfectly spiced. We came twice. We had a ton of food to try. The garlic cucumber starter was delicious. The one chicken dish that is in the starter section was labeled as spicy but was also boiled tasting. I did not like that at all. The spicy green beans were fantastic! It was also a huge portion. It was one of my favorite dishes we had. Other winners included the General Chicken which was made in a way that I hadn't tasted before. I wish it had more broccoli on the side because it was goooood The kung pao chicken was also a huge success. It came SPICY. The portions of all the entrees are huge. All of the other dishes that were ordered and shared were greeted with positive feedback. Highly recommended! The service was friendly. They could use one more person to help out because on our second visit they were in the weeds a bit. The parking on the street was a little rough.

Ordered green tea, a Jade Dynasty cocktail and pot stickers to enjoy while we perused the menu (including the picture book!). The pot stickers were delicious! More like meatballs inside, served with a I-don't-know-what-this-is-but-it's-delicious sauce. We ordered and were pretty quickly delivered our mains: How Fun noodles (level 2 spice) with chicken and Pepper Beef (level 3 spice). Both were outstanding! The sauces on both were savory and delicious. The noodles were great - not slimy like they can sometimes be but firm yet delicate. The chicken was tasty. The pepper beef was tangy and tender with a nice balance of peppers and onions. Serving sizes big enough for lunch the next day. Vibrant decor made the place really feel alive and servers were friendly and efficient. We found street parking but I assume this part of Covington gets busy on weekend nights so allow a few minutes to find a spot. Restaurant was crowded but we were sat immediately. Service was good - not super attentive but we were able to order quickly. I had to ask for more water throughout the meal and then they brought checks and boxes before we asked while we were still eating. We ordered the dumplings, orange chicken and how fun noodles. They have a spicy scale of 1-10, I opted for the 5 on the how fun noodles, and they were spicy!! Made me wonder what a 10 would taste like. Dumplings were good - though the bottom broke on them while we were eating them. Definitely homemade! My daughter loved the orange chicken / it also had cucumbers which she didn't love. My noodles were okay - nothing memorable in terms of flavor and very spicy. Overall a bright, well themed restaurant but I don't think I'd go back for the food.
