King Wok should be dethroned! I ordered their "Healthy selection" pork and mixed vegetables with brown sauce. The meat was very very dry! Even when dipped in the sauce it did not help. It was unpalatable! My two daughters were with me and they ordered sesame sesame chicken and sweet and sour chicken. Neither of them liked their food either. These are meals we have eaten all throughout our lives and can compare. Next time I walk into a restaurant and it is empty I will tu around and run. read more

It's been a long while since I've eaten food from here, and the last time wasn't very good. But I am pleasantly surprised this time. I had their steamed dumplings, which were big and juicy and very tasty. I also had their Steamed Triple Green with shrimp (green beans, broccoli, and snow peas. sauce on the side). That was FABULOUS without the sauce. I'm not much of a white rice person, so that's why I knocked off a star because I was sure I ordered brown rice. Best Chinese we've had so far in the Cincinnati area! I would have given 5 stars but they didn't give us any fortune cookies :( and the prices are a little high. I got Tomyum soup that was pretty tasty but only 1 shrimp and the mushrooms are super tiny. Hot and sour soup was ok. General Tso, Mongolian Beef, and Szechuan Peppercorn Chicken & Shrimp. I didn't see any peppercorns which I'm not upset about but why name it that if you don't use it? Also ordered spring rolls and eggrolls. 3 stars for dim sum this place is an okay quick fix for your cravings but don't have high expectations. It's just average and a little bland. Probably (at least it taste like) some items are frozen ready made dim sum food. But what they do pretty good here in flavors are their chicken feet and shark fin dumplings. Their turnip cake is a bit thicker and dense and has no dried shrimp flavor to it like it should. The shrimp rolls and BBQ pork bun isn't as sweet like its suppose to be. So you may need to use a bit more soy sauce, hoisin, etc... To give more taste to the food. For authentic Chinese food menu, it's pretty good! That is why its scoring itself a 4 star. They have live fish that they take out of the tank and cooked. Not many places do it here, but abundance in other city's Chinatowns. The authentic menu is pack full of flavors and definitely won't disappoint! They may have English barriers but just get pass the awkward stage and enjoy your food afterwards! That's all to it! This is an alright place. If you are really in the mood for Chinese food, and are in the area of UC then stop by. They have a large menu, and even serve bubble tea. I wasn't too big of a fan of their orange chicken as it had large pieces of orange peel in it still. The lo mein was good though and so was the shrimp in garlic sauce. My first review of King Wok wasn't exactly glowing, but finding good food is a lot like finding a good man: sometimes you've got to give it a second chance. I've gone back to give King Wok another chance, and I'll say that I'm happpy I did. The dim sum on the weekend is a real treat, and once you know what to order on the menu, this is actually pretty good chinese. The folks in the kitchen must have been having an off day the first time I reviewed this place, because subsequent trips have been much better. I'd absolutely suggest people check this place out, most especially on the weekends when they do dim sum. I will offer a warning, however, ro stay away from the "Shrimp Fun Roll" on the dim sum menu...there IS shrimp, but there is absolutely nothing fun about that roll. How you can mess up shrimp is beyond me, but this dish does it (unappealing in presentation, texture, and taste). Outside of that very specific caveat, and with specific regard to their drim sum offerings, I'm raising my review of King Wok from 2 stars to 4! read more

My boyfriend comes here all the time...raves about it being the best Chinese food he's had. Being a regular, the servers even know his order. So I wanted to see what all the hype was about and he was right! Always stop by here when visiting. Their lunch deals are very affordable and leave you more than satisfied. I always get the Hot and Sour soup with the Beef and Broccoli and fried rice. Yum! Their egg rolls are surprisingly good too! Service I had a really busy day, so I ordered a carryout and delivery of the vegetable chow mein and the shrimp fried rice. Since I don't like oil and salt as much, I requested that my order be cooked with less sauce. She fulfilled my request, and my transaction over the phone was easy and smooth. Within 20 minutes, I receive my food piping hot and smelling delicious. The shrimp fried rice was perfect; the veggie chow mein was unfortunately a bit too fried for me, but it was still delicious! (Huzzah, fried food!) Food I really liked how they were nice and quick about the delivery. And they also cooked the fried rice how I ordered it. This isn't my favorite location for Chinese food, but it does the job if you're really hungry or craving some yummy fried food. My stomach was still satisfied. Since they give you ample portions, I saved the rest for the next day which is an additional perk. If you live nearby, then this restaurant satisfies your Chinese food desires. Although it is not the best in the area for Chinese food, I will occasionally come here when I am having a strong dim-sum craving and don't feel like driving too far for it (living in Clifton). Staff was extremely friendly and checked up on us just frequently enough. Hot and sour soup: perfect. As expected. Huge portion for only $1.50. Spring roll: fresh, giant shrimp inside, served with hot sauce. Spicy lamb hotpot: delicious! Came with our choice of steamed or fried rice. We went fried. The lamb was nice juicy tender chunks and floating in a rich spiced sauce that provided excellent coverage of the fried rice. I have given up on fried rice in this city and will wait until I'm back on either coast before I have any again unless I wish to e disappointed. One star off for rice. That's it. Will go again. My experience was better than some and worse than others. Unlike other recent reviewers, I didn't find any bugs in my food, so that's a plus. The house special deep fried noodles were great, the noodles were crispy and chewy and the shrimp, pork, and chicken in the broth was very tasty. The hunan chicken was just okay. Awesome delivery time, good prices, generous size dishes (always have leftovers), this place was my go to for Dim-Sum during my stay in the Natti. Dinner was great too. -Shrimp dumplings: not the best, but on point with good size shrimp. -Siu Mai: good at best -Spring rolls: very fresh and good size shrimp inside. -fried tofu: awesome -egg drop soup: hard to mess up, it's good! -chicken feet: not a fan of these from anywhere, all the bones rub me the wrong way. -Mongolian beef: always save the best for last. We bought the Hawaii five o which consists of squid, scallop, shrimp, chicken, and beef with assorted vegetables in the chef's special sauce and the cold fish platter which had jelly fish, squid, and shredded duck. I think it would have tasted better with the aroma beef they offered but unfortunately they did not have. I was surprised by the taste of the food in King Wok. King Wok had its own distinct quality that was different from the Chinese restaurants I have tasted in New York. Chinese restaurants eventually seem the same in New York because they all serve similar food without creativity. The Hawaii five o was something new and had everything I wanted in one dish. It had seafood and meat which is hard to get in one dish. The shrimps were large and the seafood did not have a sea taste. The duck and jelly fish was the best of the cold dish platter. It was great to have shredded duck meat since they usually have too much bones and that makes the meat hard to savor. It was great service but I felt like I was being rushed by the waiter because he would take everything away quickly and asked me if I wanted the check constantly. Sadly, this is the best Chinese food I've had in Cincinnati. Too saucy, too MSGy, meat dishes tend to be light on meat, heavy on filler, fried stuff is too much batter and generally not crispy. They're basically selling soy sauce for your fried rice and throwing some extra stuff in it so you don't realize thats what you're buying. Very rude on the phone and no sweet and sour sauce came with my crab rangoon. This is the second time I ordered from them. I thought maybe the first time they were just having a bad day. Won't be making that mistake again. ... Decided to eat the rangoon without the sauce. It's about 95% wonton and only 5% filling, which it turns out is good because the filling tastes pretty bad. If that weren't enough, I took a look at other reviews and found 3 separate people who's food came with live insects crawling around in it. Disgusting! When I was living in Clifton I came here about once every couple weeks, the food was okay back then. Two years later, I went back with a group a people and ordered from their chinese menu.... Gotta say it was pretty lacking. Especially the seafood tofu soup, OMg, 10 bucks for five tiny shrimps with imitation crabmeat and tofu soup. Whatever u do don't order this dish. The honeydew bubble tea was not as good as Tea n' Bowl's. The short ribs definitely require a bit of strategy to bite off. One hand hold the rib and the other chopsticks. I don't even care what you think, I LOVE this place. Mr David and I regularly pick it up on our way home from work and it's always freshly made and piping hot! It's pretty basic Chinese takeout, but I have liked everything I have tried. Now our go-to choices are General Tso chicken (Mr David) and chicken with vegetables in brown sauce (me). One of the things I especially like about King Wok is the generous amount of sauce included in the food. I like everything to be exceptionally sauce-y so that it seeps in nicely with the fried rice, and King Wok always delivers. I'm also pretty picky about egg rolls, and King Wok's are my favorite! I like to ask for a side of the General Tso sauce to dip my egg roll in. All of this plus the staff is super friendly. When a craving for Chinese takeout strikes, King Wok is our place of choice. read more

So this is really a warning to those of you whose taste in Chinese food is more like mine. If you like Americanized Chinese food made with bottled sauces that are purchased in large plastic jugs from foodservice distributors (like Sysco), this is the place for you. If you like Chinese food that has no distinguishable flavors other than salt and corn syrup, this is the place for you. This review is mostly for the Dry Pot dishes they added few months ago. If you're reading reviews made before this year, keep in mind that the menu has changed drastically under new management, and for the better actually! The Dry Pot dishes are traditional spicy Sichuan Dishes stir fried on high heat with chili bean paste, chili peppers, peppercorns, and other spices served over an open flame too. Beware the intense heat, it will make you sweat and clear your sinuses, but that's all part of the experience! It's definitely worth stopping by to try out an authentic Sichuan experience. As for dishes other than the Dry Pot dishes, I also had their stir fried lamb with scallions. It's a pretty simple dish, but getting the lamb very tender with a stir fry is quite challenging and the chefs actually nailed it! Lamb with scallions is another nostalgic dish I miss and I'm glad I got something that is close to what I remember from other Chinese restaurants that also serve the dish. Overall, the new menu does not feature as great of a variety as other Chinese restaurants next to the UC campus, but some of the menu items that were added are unique options that may not be found at other Chinese restaurants in Cincinnati, and honestly as a Chinese person, I would never complain about having some more variety of Chinese dishes to eat at in Cincinnati, especially when it's close to UC. read more
