This place is a bit of a hole in the wall, but has authentic food and fairly large portions for the price. I'd definitely get the double cooked pork and the fried chicken. I go to this place almost everytime I'm in flushing even though it's pretty small inside with not too many tables and a couple tables in the basement level.

good food with very generous portions. we stopped by on a saturday evening and there was a 45 mins wait for a shared table. they have limited space but are quite popular for good reason. i was least impressed by the mapo tofu and most impressed by the slow fried pork intestines. service was very attentive even in the downstairs area and dishes came out quickly.

Great experience at Xu Chu. The restaurant is quite casual, and the ambiance scores pretty low especially if you end up in the basement overflow space. That being said, the food is the primary focus. Service was reasonably attentive, with the waitstaff checking on us a few times. We came on a weekend lunch and the restaurant was busy but not full with no wait. The flavors are very classic Szechuan, with a lot of numbing peppercorn. The spiciness is not overwhelming. The portions here are massive and the restaurant is clearly more geared towards large groups. We ordered two dishes could have easily fed four people.

It's a small hidden spot near Prince street, and they serve authentic sichuan food that could make you sweat (or numb). Tables are very limited, so best to go on weekdays or avoid peak meal times. For parking, it's a quick walk from Skyview and Tangram parking garage.

Have been coming back consistently and I always get the shrimp and eggplant + try a few other dishes. So far, nothing has topped the shrimp in my mind (which is the perfect balance of dry spice with depth beyond just the chili flavor), but the Chinese bacon is a close second! It genuinely tastes like a fat piece of bacon / ham in amazing spices. I've also been ordering the fresh veggies (not the small chopped ones) whenever I come with friends who can't eat spicy food well. Service remains impeccable with all staff being very attentive, bringing water and even water in bowls to wash the spicy food for people who can't eat spice. They also serve this sweet jelly with haw flakes and raisins at the end which is great to soothe the tongue. For larger parties, there's a downstairs area which also has AC and is quite nice, though I've never eaten there.

Eggplant, Crazy fried pork kidney, husband and wife beef and tripe appetizer

One of the most delicious meals I've had in a while! We ordered eggplant, fire exploded pig kidney, and husband and wife beef and tripe. The service was helpful and friendly. The kidney was fantastic. I've never eaten kidney before, but the texture of this was extremely pleasant. It really reminded me of a really good hot dog. It's stir fried with Chinese celery. It was a rich and well seasoned dish. The beef and tripe appetizer was intensely delicious also, with a good amount of numbing heat from the Sichuan peppercorn. The textures were perfectly chewy and addictive. The eggplant was my least favorite dish of the three, but it's still quite good. The sauce has some pleasant sweetness to it. The eggplant pieces themselves felt they lacked a bit of salt to me. The beer was cheap, the portions were big, and the restaurant was a clean and friendly environment. Would love to return, especially to try the whole fish, which was ordered by the table next to us and looked fantastic.

Cuisine: 8 Service: 7 Decor: 6 Value: 8 Overall: 8 After three great meals here and two within the last week, this is definitely one of my new favorite Szechuan restaurants in NYC. Everything feels like home cooking and just extremely flavorful. They have various sized dishes. The high priced ones are humongous, while others that are smaller at a much lower price point. A word of advice to pay attention to this fact and not over order. On our last two visits, here is what we ordered. Signature Clam (9/10) - This a gigantic plate of clams that has such a delicious sauce made of clam juices, chili peppers, ginger and Chinese celery. I can just keep munching on these delicious bivalves and use its yummy sauce to enjoy with my rice. Ordered it both of the last two visits and loved by everyone. Yanwu Signature Fish (8/10) - Very tender poached Tilapia in a wonderful broth that has a nice vinegary taste and numbing peppery flavor. Wish they used more green peppercorns, but I feel like they toned down the numbness due to my non-Asian guests. Chili Sauce Duck Blood (7/10) - If you like innards, then this dish is for you. It had duck blood, tripe, intestine, SPAM, emperor mushroom, and bean sprouts. Another fantastic dish over some white rice. Eggplant in Garlic Sauce (8/10) - Extremely well cooked eggplant with a garlicky and vinegary sauce. A bit oily but that's somewhat expected. Szechuan Bacon (8/10) - Aka twice cooked pork. One of the group's favorite because it's such a common Szechuan dish, yet done better than most restaurants out there. Smoky with a small kick from the peppers. Mapo Tofu (7/10) - Slightly salty, but overall a fairly well done version of this Szechuan staple. Once again, I feel like they toned down the numbness for my guests, which was not necessary. I will have to try this version once more on my own. Yellow Chives Stir Fried Squid (9/10) - Surprisingly tender squid and ridiculously yummy sauce. There are both yellow and green chives, with bell peppers and birds eye chili. Smoked Bamboo Shoots & Cured Pork Face (8/10) - Very unexpected dish both in flavor and texture. There is a slight crunch from the bamboo that worked well with the chewiness of the pork face, while all of it was smoky. Yum! Yanwu Signature Trotter (9/10) - If you don't mind getting your hands dirty, and enjoy a good trotter, then this is your dish. Texturally, it has some well seasoned crispy skin and delicious gooey tendon inside. One of my favorite dishes here. Griddle Taishan Cauliflower (8/10) - So simple, but executed very well. One of the tastiest version of this dish I have experienced. All in all, these were two outstanding meals. They may have toned down the spiciness for my group imho on the first visit, but kicked it up round two as requested. Compared to most Szechuan restaurants in Flushing, I feel the food here has more depth of flavor. I will be back often to keep trying more on the menu.

Wow, a new favorite Szechuan place in Flushing that recently opened! Everything is perfectly spiced & balanced, and the portions are huge for the price. A no frills mom & pop shop that serves amazing food. My favorites were the Pepper Braised Chicken (get this one!) and Fuqi Feipian (such huge portions). The mapo tofu, garlic eggplant, and cauliflower were all absolutely delicious as well, but more on the standard side. At the end of the meal right when you are feeling spiced and numb from all the savory food, they serve a complimentary bingfen dessert with hawthorn and brown sugar that perfectly balances my taste buds! Next time, I definitely want to try the yanwu signature fish, lazi chicken, and pig ears. Will be back soon to try! :)

The portions here are insane. The food was quite authentic. Really good. They have downstairs private dining as well.

Really authentic no-frills Sichuan restaurant! really great value for the quantity and taste of food. This two-floor space 4 min from the Main St subway stop was easy to walk into on a Friday night for a group of 5. You scan a QR code to order food for the table and you can see what everyone has ordered! We ordered 5 dishes and since the total was more than 100$, they gifted us 2 free drinks! My favorite was (in order) the clams ($60 but HUGE portion), the lazi chicken (addicting but felt the quality of the meat was mid, much better than sichuan mountain house), the hand shredded cabbage (oily, not as good as mountain house but enjoyed the potent numbing flavor!), signature stir fried beef, and the eggplant. I will have to come back to try their yanwu fish, frog, pot of braised chicken and their jelly! They ended the meal with complimentary bingfen, a jelly dessert with brown sugar syrup, shanzha (hawthorn flakes) and peanuts. Such a nice touch that made us v happy and helped our mouths cool down from the spicy meal! Overall $35pp and will definitely return!

BEST SICHUAN HOMECOOKING IN NYC HANDS DOWN. One of those hole in the wall places. Good for group gathering and finding cheap eats.

My choice for Best Authentic Sichuanese food for money in Flushing for 2024
    Maggie W.

We got to know Xu Chu last year from our friends who live in Flushing. So far we've ordered over five times and there was no time they failed us. If you want authentic food and don't want to go to Chuanshanjia or Daxi for money, this would be a good choice. But headsup they don't have many tables even though they have two stories.

I ordered the cured pork with garlic shoots and dry fried green beans. The cured pork was quite salty, and paired well with the buttery, tender leeks it was cooked with. The dish was not overly oily, and was pleasant over white rice. I enjoyed the chewiness of the pork which allowed you to experience the complex flavor. The green beans were well fried, with characteristic texture signature to this dish. The seasoning was very well balanced and not overpowering to the natural sweetness of the green beans. I would recommend either dish. They were both slightly toned down iterations when compared to the times I've eaten these dishes at other Sichuan restaurants in flushing, but still well seasoned and well cooked. The service was very warm and friendly, and many other customers seemed to be returning regulars.

Warning to all with a pineapple allergy like me: do not eat the duck sauce. If you like spicy ask for hot mustard instead. Orange chicken was crispy and flavorful. For me the fried dumplings were good, but not great. Worth a try but nothing to rave over.

They gave me a cold glass of water, which I quickly drank since I didn't know I was dehydrated. She refilled my glass while I perused the menu. Thank you so much! Not gonna lie, I chose Dumpling House because it was the closest Chinese food near me, but I was pleasantly surprised by what I found. The women who greeted me at the counter was friendly and took my order: one large hot and sour soup and a small house special fried rice. I wouldn't recommend coming on a hot day because the shop can be hot if you're waiting for takeout, but the wait wasn't too long. After about 15 to 20 minutes, I was walking home with $11 dollar takeout. The hot and sour soup is pretty good and I've had a lot of hot and sour soup in my life. The consistency is not too thin or thick and the flavor is balanced (not too sweet or sour). For 5 dollars, I think it's a steal. The house special rice is good and not too greasy. For some reason, it still tasted Americanized even with the Asian ingredients I was used to. There was some chicken, barbecue pork, mixed veggies, egg, etc. and the ingredients mixed well despite it tasting American. Even though I got a small rice, I still had some leftover to eat the next day. Despite my obviously biased Asian tastebuds, I was very happy with what I got and I will definitely be back for some more hot and sour soup!
