Keepin it real out here in Flushing The food game is way too competitive out here, this spot is pretty solid with reasonable pricing. It's new so i'm assuming its trying to win customers and build its base. Spacious interior, diverse menu, great location and wont break the bank

    Complimentary appetizer (Marinated Radishes)... Fantastic!

This was our first visit to Szechuan Opera, and it certainly won't be our last! Everything was outstanding. The food is top notched, as well as the service. Don't be afraid of the language barrier because there weren't any! Friendly and very accommodating staff. We were even given a private room, which was a nice surprise! There were 10 of us, sharing the below menu: ~ Crispy Cucumber Salad ($15): good but pretty standard. ~ Stir Fried Bacon w.Tea Tree Mushrooms ($22): Excellent! This was a nice surprise and my fave dish of the night. Nice smoky flavor! ~ Mapo Tofu ($15): Very Good,I asked for Extra Spicy, and they delivered! ~ Cumin Lamb ($25): Very good but I wished the lamb were in bigger pieces. ~ Chongqing Spicy Chicken ($20): Good; typical Szechuan dish done well. ~ Dry Pot w.Asian Mushrooms ($22): Good but the tea tree mushroom dish was better. ~ Golden Sour Sliced Beef Soup ($32/large): Very good; great flavors. ~ Eel w.Fermented Rice Sauce ($20): this would have been an excellent dish if not for the many bones. The eel itself was prepared well but the bones ruined it for many in my party. ~ Spicy Stir-Fried Pork Kidney ($20): Excellent; nice flavors, prepared perfectly me ~ Rice $2/Bowl ~ Complimentary Dessert (Black Sesame Mochi Ball Soup): This was so unique and such a treat. Thank you! Like I mentioned before, this is our first visit, and we will be back to try other dishes. This was a quality meal, enjoyed by all. Recommended!

Very cool blend of lots of different chinese cuisinese here. We only had a few dishes, which was good. The spicy fried intestine was interesting, as it is not comonly done. Would come back to try more!

I saw a picture on Yelp that shows the outside of the wrong spot. I noticed it when I saw the name on the menu. Surprisingly, the neighbor to this restaurant also sells the same cuisine, hence I came to the wrong restaurant. I wanted to still make the best of it since I already sat down and the service was pleasant in the beginning. They also serve complimentary peanuts. We ordered the spicy beef with chili oil and it was just spicy, but not really flavorful. The spicy chicken is my usual thing to order when I get Sichuan food, and the chicken was crispy with great texture, but didn't capture the essence of the peppers. The Lotus Leaf Steamed Silky Chicken wasn't great either, it was extremely basic and didn't have any lotus leaf flavor and then the bottom of the chicken had a dark thick paste which I scrapped off. The interior is cute with nice tables and chairs, and a couple of rooms for groups. The bathroom was horrid, pee puddles, no matter which one of the two I go to. I'm not even sure how this is possible since it was pretty empty.

There's definitely no shortage of Szechuan restaurants in Flushing, but I would probably have Szechuan Opera at the top of the list. They have quite a few options on their menu, including both spicy Szechuan dishes, as well as even some non-spicy Cantonese dishes, such as dim sum. We were craving some spice so we ordered all spicy dishes, including mapo tofu, spicy chicken and double cooked pork. The portion size of everything was huge so there were plenty of leftovers. We ordered two items that were listed as special price which was priced at only $10 per dish. At that price, we expected a much smaller portion, but the dishes were huge! The tofu was so silky and delicate, absorbing the rich, spicy and savory sauce quite well. There was a slight numbing sensation which definitely added to the experience. The double cooked pork with thinly sliced and cooked to perfection. It was tender, yet had a bite to it from the crispy edges. We also loved the spicy chicken as it had a wonderful crunchy texture on the outside. We added some string beans for variety which was very flavorful as well. The inside of the restaurant was very spacious and had a very grand palace feel. I loved the decor and enjoyed the wonderful service from the staff. Definitely worth a trip if you're craving some spice.

I came with a friend on a Friday at 5pm and it was a good time with tables available, but starting around 6:30pm was when it really started bustling! Tables were filled back to back, but service was still quick! the interior is very nicely decorated (peep koi pond on the side) and feels modern. I really liked trying their different Szechuan dishes which also have some Fujianese influences. I was recommended to try the lychee pork and really loved it! I've never had lychee in my entree before but loved the sweet and savory flavors of this dish, would absolutely get it again! The chicken in chili oil was delicious and tender also! The szechuan fish with pickled veggies was a massive portion! i think it could probably be enough for 3-4 people with average appetites, plus it wasn't too spicy. We reallllly liked the broth. it was a pleasant surprise that it comes with glass noodles as well. Lastly, the eggplant with green beans were perfectly crispy. What we tried: Lychee pork $29 Chicken in sichuan chili oil sauce $12 Szechuan opera style sour and spicy fish with pickled vegetables $32 Eggplant minced pork with green beans $18 absolutely delicious, would highly recommend.

Cuisine: 8 Service: 9 Decor: 8 Value: 7 Overall: 8 Newly opened (August '23) Szechuan restaurant in Fulton Square, downtown Flushing. Four of us enjoyed an impromptu dinner here a few weeks ago. For those of you that are Mapo Tofu lovers, this is probably my new favorite in NYC. It is a vegetarian version that hits all the right notes of being silky and numbingly spicy. My friend said, "All I need is some rice with this and I'm good. Nothing else is needed." If you are a fan of this dish, I highly recommend you trying it. As for other dishes, the Stir Fried Pig Trotters and Stir Fried Cumin Lamb were both quite delicious, but be mindful that it has a nice kick. If you want something with less heat (but like sour), maybe try the Beef with Sichuan Pickles in Golden Soup. We actually got the fish version, which none of us enjoyed because they use a technique to make the fish crispy (weird). Soup itself was tasty though, hence the suggestion to go with beef. Regarding the appetizers, we all absolutely loved the wonderful sauce part of the Chicken in Sichuan Chili Oil Sauce. However, the chicken itself could have been more tender. My cousin said she would reorder this dish simply for the sauce, which she took home every last drop. The Marinated Whelk with Okra had a nice crunch if you like food with texture, but flavor was just average until I added the sauce from the chicken. Lastly, skip on the Abalone with Fresh Peppers. Nothing special. It would not be appropriate if I didn't mention the fantastic service we received from the restaurant's host and wait staff. They were extremely attentive throughout the meal checking in on us, changing plates and refilling our tea pot. Btw, we all were amazed at their gorgeous dinner ware that our food was served in. Overall, we agree that Szechuan Opera is a restaurant worth coming back to try more dishes, even if it's just for the Mapo Tofu again. I really hope they continue to improve and will be supporting them with my patronage.

We ordered take out from Szechuan Opera because the other Szechuan restaurant we wanted to order from didn't have any of the fish dishes when we called. But this turned out for the better because food was great. We got the Eggplant Minced Pork with Green Beans ($9.90) and Fish Fillet with Sichuan Pickles in Golden Soup ($29). The fish soup portion was well worth the cost. It was filled with a variety of vegetables (mushrooms, tomatoes, turnip, and peppers), slices of fish, and glass noodles. We ate about half of it and was able to make a second meal the next day by adding in more veggies and noodles. The soup was spicy! But it was the type of spice and numbness that allowed you to keep eating without it feeling torturous. I would order this again. If you are looking for the heat and numbing that comes with authentic Sichuan food, this restaurant will deliver.

The dining area is quite big and the price is reasonable compared to the quality and quantity. But you'll have to pay for parking, which is not ideal for the long run. I tried it once, and it was fun, and one time is enough

It was my first time at this Chinese restaurant. First things first their food bursts with flavors, however the food service was a bit sluggish. The staff were very attentive and they were great but I believe the kitchen was having some trouble cause the food service was slow..I wished all the dishes arrived together but it came like 10-15mins apart from eachother. I also found out it was a newly opened establishment so I'm not mad because I could see the visible panic in staffs face. Nevertheless, their delectable food remains a definite highlight.

Service was minimal at best but they just seemed under staffed honestly. And when the server did come by, she was running quickly to and from. The place was not busy when my friends and I were seated. But there was a back room in guessing that had occupants since she was missing in the front seating area. (There was a two person table occupied in the front near us). My party of three over ordered but that was intentional because, any purchase over $100, you get a free lobster and each of us had items we wanted, figured we would doggie bag the leftovers. All in all a great value. The lunch spread had over 7 dishes and we got the free lobster. I was especially happy to see Fried Milk on the menu as an appetizer. They also provide complimentary salted peanuts and pickled radish and carrot slivers. I recommend the snow pea shoots, fried milk, clams with black bean sauce and the Chinese Broccoli with Filet beef. The other dishes like the lobster, noodles and sweet and sour pork were executed well but just not my flavor profile. And with my food allergy, I couldn't try the shrimp with walnuts but it was my friends' birthday so she ordered that for her treat. It looked great! We were famished and only focused on what yummy dishes to order. My wife, son and daughter all contributed their suggestions and we ended up ordering pan fried whole flounder, half of the roast chicken with garlic, filet mignon with Chinese broccoli, fried rice with chicken and salted fish and everyone's favorite dish salt & pepper squid. Once we placed our order and were enjoying the roasted peanuts and free spicy cabbage we realized why everyone had their winter coats on, it felt like they had the AC on and it must have been 55° in the restaurant. I told everyone that once the food arrived things would warm up. Each dish that came out of the kitchen was perfectly cooked and was delicious. The salt & pepper squid with it's minced jalapeños kept us warm enough until the half chicken with garlic and filet mignon and Chinese broccoli came out in rapid succession. The star of the show turned out to be the giant sized pan fried flounder which was not only big but quite scrumptious. Unlike the little scrawny flounder that most other restaurants usually served this was a quite large and very meaty and perfectly cooked. The last dish to come out was a very large plate of chicken fried rice with salted fish. If it were not for the lack of heat, I would have given Chef Wong Bistro 5 stars!

Texture might not be for everyone, but nice thing to snack on while you wait for your food, but not necessary. Service is quick. The space as I mentioned is small and can feel a little cramped, but they offer takeout if you wanted to just bring it back home. I'd still recommend just dining in though. Overall, great spot. Also there's a decent discount if you pay with cash.

Shun Won is my favorite spot for Cantonese food in Flushing. I love their roast pig - it has just…read morethe right amount of seasoning, and the skin is always crispy. The congee here is perfect. It's not too watery or too thick -- just the right balance of meat and rice. I don't think I've tried anything I didn't like. I come here at least once a month. The people in the front are always very friendly.

Food is good, service isn't…read more I came in the afternoon, it's not busy so it's just one waiter. I sat down as a party of one, the waiter put down their pot of complimentary tea then immediately asked me what I want to order as he's handing me the menu. I asked if I can look at the menu first. I ordered a bowl of the preserved egg/pork congee and a bowl of wonton soup. The food came quickly, maybe 1-2min. The waiter then proceeded to bend down close to my face (too close for comfort) and asked me in Chinese if I can finish the food or not. His mandarin is a bit hard to understand so I was a bit perplexed if I misheard the question and asked him again then he turned to leave and literally waved me off with his arms (ok..?) Food was hot and excellent. Each wonton piece had large pieces of shrimp in it. Overall delicious and yes I finished it! I haven't finished my wonton soup yet when the waiter puts the bill down on the table without me asking for it (what's the rush??). Price came out to be $15.75 for the 2 bowls. I was actually thinking of getting half of the scallion oil chicken to go. I asked him if I can order through him or by the meats counter he said he can do it and added the price to the receipt which now came out to be $31.75. I waited a few more min, he asked me if I wanted the tea pointing to the tea pot I said yes please leave it...he then pours me a cup and takes away the entire pot like he's protecting it from me, like what?! I was fuming by now but he came back to tell me like I can't read that my total is $35 (he said that bc he wants to make sure I'm clear to leave a tip...also when and what have I done to make him think I'm not tipping, I have never dined in without tipping less than 18% regardless of service...). I proceeded to hand him $36 and walked out. It's like he couldn't wait to get rid of me or something. Never coming here again to dine in, maybe take out only. This place is cash only btw. If not for the food I'd give 1 star for this epically terrible experience!!! This person should NOT be in the service industry.
