    Chicken Fried Udon

We went through a long (18 mile) walking through Queens and Nan Xiang was our final destination. The food was delicious and exactly what we needed after a long day. The soup dumplings are definitely the highlight on the menu. We ordered the assortment of 6 different soup dumpling flavors. My favorites were the pork + crab and the pork + truffle. We also ordered the pork + veggie wontons with spicy peanut sauce, and the chicken stir-fried udon. The soup dumplings are super fresh and packaged with flavor. The wontons are also solid if you want something a little richer. I've had better dumplings in the city, but still a very solid option. The passion fruit ice tea is fantastic and not too sweet. We were very impressed by how efficient the check in process was. The was a large line when we arrived, but it moved quickly and we were able to get seating within 20 minutes. The service was also good and the crew that helped us was very nice. We would definitely come back if we're ever back in the area!

Nan Xiang Xiao Long Bao - My awesome Gourd Luffa, Shrimp and Pork Soup Dumplings!

Awesome experience! Love soup dumplings after years dining at the now closed Grand Sichuan. Good to discover Nan Xiang Xiao Long Bao, although not a part of town I'm typically at. A nice setting away from the potentially frenetic streets. Fast service. Decided on the Gourd Luffa, Shrimp and Pork Soup Dumplings! Reasonably priced and delicious! An awesome choice! Will check out their other locations in town. Recommend you stop by Nan Xiang Xiao Long Bao!

I had a great experience at Nan Xiang Soup Dumplings. The soup dumplings were flavorful, juicy, and clearly made in house. Very fresh ingredients used. The menu offers plenty of delicious options, the service was efficient, and the lively atmosphere made for a fun dining experience. The chicken stir fry udon was delicious. Definitely a must-visit if you're in Flushing!

Visited Nan Xiang on a busy Saturday early afternoon. Once you enter, you can scan the QR code to enter your name and phone number and they will assign you a number. Luckily, there was only a short wait for our party of two at around 12pm...but I suspect the wait can be much longer later in the afternoon or during peak dinner times. Once your number is called, you go up some stairs to the eating/tabled area. There are tables and chairs for 2, 4 and more guests throughout the large space. The pace of the restaurant is very fast...as soon as you are seated, you are given tea and your waiter comes over right away to take any order you are ready to give. Its helpful to ask for a menu while you are waiting for a table so you know what to order when asked. We had some soup dumplings as well as a (large) soup. Everything was very good and out in about 15 minutes...very fast. The soup dumplings were great...but as expected are filled with piping hot broth so be careful when eating. They have some other appetizers and dishes available. There are also some drink options including cold teas, soft drinks and beer. Overall a great experience...despite visiting on a busy Saturday, we were in and out in about 40-45 minutes. Street parking can be tough in the area but there are a few garages around...one of the more reasonable options is the garage at the Skyview shops which currently charge about $6 for up to three (3) hours and is a short 5 minute walk away.

    To-go bag, very well packed

Another great pickup, another awesome packaging job. Driving 15 mins home and food still arrives hot and crispy. Udon noodles are delicious, rolls are crispy, xiao long bao are the best in Flushing, IMO. Ordering online from their website is best, plan to allow 30 minutes for your order to be ready. They'll email you when it's ready. Until the next great meal!!!!

Nan Xiang Soup Dumplings is one of the best-known spots in Flushing for Shanghainese cuisine, and it is easy to see why it has become such a destination. We walked into a modern, spacious dining room that felt much larger than it appeared from the outside, making it a comfortable place for both small groups and larger gatherings. The room had a polished, contemporary energy with a layout that accommodated the steady flow of diners, and even though it was consistently busy, the operation ran efficiently and the atmosphere stayed lively without feeling chaotic. The soup dumplings are the clear highlight and are the reason we would recommend coming here. We ordered a few baskets and found the wrappers thin enough to hold a generous amount of rich, flavorful broth without falling apart, and the fillings well seasoned. The classic pork soup dumplings were a must-order, while the pork and crab version was another standout if we were looking for something with a little more richness. Beyond the dumplings, the menu had plenty of other Shanghainese favorites, including beef noodle soup, pan-fried pork buns, scallion pancakes, fried rice, and a variety of appetizers that made it easy to share several dishes. Each plate arrived hot and well assembled, and the consistency across the menu gave us confidence in ordering beyond the signature item. Despite how popular the restaurant is, the wait was well managed. We joined the waitlist digitally before being seated, and tables turned over fairly quickly. Once seated, the food came out at a steady pace, making it a good option even during busy lunch or dinner hours. The staff moved through the room with efficiency, and the pacing of the meal kept the flow smooth without feeling rushed. Overall, Nan Xiang Soup Dumplings lives up to its reputation. The soup dumplings are some of the best we have had, and the extensive menu makes it worth ordering beyond just the signature dish. If we are visiting Flushing, it is a restaurant that deserves a spot on the list, whether it is a first introduction to xiao long bao or we are already a fan of Shanghainese food.

    Braised Beef Noodle Soup
    Jennifer M.

Nan xiang is obviously known for their Shanghainese soup dumplings, but when I heard that their Taiwanese braised beef noodle soup was legit, I just had to try. To my disappointment, the broth just wasn't as spiced and flavorful as I had hoped. The braised beef was certainly tender and the noodles were plentiful. I wished the noodles were a little more al dente and not soft/overcooked. Luckily each table had a mini jar of hot chili peppers for us to spice up this dish. The stars of the meal were obviously the soup dumplings, which had perfectly thin wrappers and flavorful filling / broth. I definitely prefer these over other soup dumplings restaurants, but Shanghai You Garden does have a great deal for a free round of soup dumplings that I always go for.

Stopped by Nan Xiang Xiao Long Bao in Flushing this past weekend and had a much better experience than the first time I came here about 7 years ago. We ordered a mix of their signature dishes: pork soup dumplings ($8.95), crab & pork soup dumplings ($9.95), and black truffle soup dumplings ($12.95). All of them came out piping hot with delicate skins and rich, flavorful broth inside. The pork was classic and satisfying, the crab added a nice sweetness, and the black truffle had a subtle earthy aroma that made it feel a bit more elevated. Definitely the highlight of the meal. For mains, we got the pan fried noodles and beef noodle soup. The noodles had a great crispy texture on the outside while still soft inside, and the flavor was savory without being too heavy. The beef noodle soup was comforting and hearty, with tender beef and a rich broth. What really stood out this time was how efficient everything was. Even on a weekend, the wait was surprisingly quick, and once seated, service was fast and attentive. The space itself has also changed a lot. It's much more modern, clean, and upgraded compared to what I remember years ago. It feels more polished while still keeping that busy, lively vibe. Overall, great food, quick service, and a big improvement from before. I'd definitely come back when I'm in the area and craving soup dumplings.

Service could be much better.... But wow the soup dumplings and noodles here are awesome. We ordered a bunch of food for the 4 of us to share and agreed that the best parts of the meal were the pork buns, pork soup dumplings, truffle soup dumplings, and crab/pork soup dumplings. Special shout out to the chicken udon noodles and veggie rice cake dish. Veggie rice cake dish had a bunch of different types of mushrooms in it - yum!! We also got the hot and sour soup which was tasty, a little too vinegary for us but we liked it. The new osmanthus chicken item was basically sesame chicken but SO small. Only a few pieces each for the 4 of us. Definitely would come back for dumplings though...

This place is popular and the service for the most part is fast. We ordered sweet sticky rice, pork soup dumplings, spicy beef dumplings, scallion pancakes with beef slice and shanghai sweet & sour spare ribs. All the dishes were decent. It is mostly clean although a fly was buzzing around towards the latter half of our meal. And they forgot an order, so we had to remind them at the end.

Made a whole day out of Flushing and Nan Xiang Soup Dumplings was on the list, Michelin Guide recommended for several years so I had to try it. The Osmanthus Honey Chicken was decent but honestly a little overhyped for me. The Crab Meat & Pork Soup Dumplings however were the real star with its delicate skin, rich broth, and every bite just chef's kiss. If you're in Flushing and in the mood for soup dumplings this is the spot.

Came on a cold winter freezing night. Good thing nobody else was brave (silly) enough to venture out. So there was not wait. Been coming for YEARS even before the new location. They are hands down the best soup dumplings in all of NY. They have other items in addition to the soup dumplings. We always stick to our standard order- soup dumplings, scallion pancakes, cucumbers, and the shrimp egg roll. Soooo good.

A very busy place! I would not personally go if it was not for my long time friend visiting me from Oslo. A 45 mins waiting time! Truffle soup dumplings, crab soup dumplings and regular pork soup dumplings were all average. Joe Shanghai is still hold the crown in terms of Shanghainese cuisine. I must give the business owner /the management a big star. She read my review today and replied with a classy humble message. A rare trait.

I am harsh on Shanghainese restaurants because I grew up eating the real thing and just visited Shanghai last year. However, this restaurant has become the standard by which I judge Shanghainese cuisine in NYC nowadays. Let's start with the Shanghainese style dim sum that I love. As consistent as anywhere, I believe they have my personal favorite Steamed Soup Dumplings. I'm even a fan of their large gimmicky ones with the straw, especially the crab and abalone version. Another top notch item is the Turnip Puffs, which has a fantastic filling and amazingly crispy and airy crust. Most of the other dim sum items are decent. When it comes to the cold and hot dishes, they do most of the traditional stuff well enough. Not always up to my standards, but most people I have taken there enjoy it enough. I do like their Stir Fried Rice Cake w/ Sheperd's Purse & Shredded Pork, ad well as their Duck Vermicelli Soup. Also, since they started working with Corner 28, their Cantonese food game stepped up quite a bit. Roast pork and Roast Crispy Pig are both really solid. Pan Fried Shrimp & Chive Dumplings are good too. There are a few other Shanghainese restaurants that do certain dim sum or dishes better, but I do believe Shanghai You Garden is currently the best overall Shanghainese restaurant in NYC.

The filling was decent, but the vinegar on the side was too mild. I'm used to a darker, more robust vinegar with XLB, so this didn't quite hit. Braised pork - very tender and flavorful, served with quail eggs. This was one of the stronger dishes. Yangzhou fried rice - not too oily which I liked, but served with only 5 an small shrimps... Sweet & sour shredded potato (cold dish) - slightly spicy, I really enjoyed this one. It was part of a promo where you can get it for $1 when you spend $30 on entrees, so definitely worth adding. I'm always on the hunt for a great xiaolongbao, and I was hoping nothing had changed since my last visit. Thankfully, they were just as good as I remembered. The skin is thin, and there's a generous amount of soup inside, which is exactly what I look for. That said, the crab meat noodles were disappointing this time. The amount of crab meat seemed significantly reduced compared to before, so much so that if I hadn't known what I was ordering, I don't think I would have been able to identify it as crab meat noodles at all. We also tried the osmanthus cakes, which my sister really enjoyed. Personally, I'm not a fan of the mochi-like texture, so while I can appreciate why others might like them, they just aren't for me. The cashier was exceptionally patient, friendly, and provided outstanding customer service. She also treated me to a complimentary cup of delicious red jujube tea, which, according to traditional Chinese herbal medicine, is believed to help balance the cooling properties of crab roe. It was such a thoughtful gesture that made the dining experience even more memorable. I'm already looking forward to coming back to try more items on the menu. Highly recommended! A few things to keep in mind: the restaurant is located inside a food court, so be prepared to share communal tables with other diners. It can get quite lively, especially on weekends when there are lots of families with children. While the food court itself isn't the cleanest, it's reasonably well maintained. There is also a restroom located at the very back of the food court.

If you order above a certain amount (I think $30), you can get a free order of the soup dumplings 鮮肉小籠包 (or get free validated parking?). They are really delicious and definitely one of the highlights of this restaurant! They are just practically overflowing with so much soup, with really thin skins and such fragrant, juicy pork fillings. Some other must-tries: - Chilli oil wontons 紅油抄手 were fantastic. Portion size was a little larger than I expected, and the chilli oil smelled so good! - Scallion pancake with beef 蔥油餅夾牛肉 is one of my favourites. The wrapper was very crispy and the beef was tender and very savoury. The balance of the slightly-sharp scallion flavour was perfect. - Fried chinese chives box 韭菜盒子, another classic. Lovely crispy outside layer with a delicious fresh chives/noodles/etc. filling. - Soymilks - I've had both the hot and cold sweet soymilks, and they are both delicious. You can't go wrong here. The location is a bit hidden (in the back of a small mall), which I suspect is why it's not busier. I've never had to wait, even during weekend lunch hours. Service is always very efficient and to-the-point, which I appreciate.
