Crab Roe And Shrimp Spring Rolls 蟹黄鲜虾春卷(2个)
    Cyrus T.

When you first walk in to the New York Food Court, you will smell something funky. Everyone knows that the mall stinks, it was document by one youtuber as well. I really think it is this place that cause it smell so bad. Maybe it is the crab. Services, it is quite slow. Took like good 15 to 20 minutes for my food. Food: spring roll. It is very fishy taste. It tastes really horrible. The only positive to this is that it was piping hot. So, it was freshly made. The vinegar sauce make the spring roll less fishy Mooncake. It is nothing special. Especially it is like $17. I didnt taste any crab roe in it, just pork, inside the mooncake flakes. Not recommend for the price point.

This place is borderline of 4 stars, not true 4 Tried both Crab Roe over rice Crab roe over lo mein Each $30.55 (Large size) Came with small sides of: pickled cabbage, Woodear mushrooms, half an egg, vinegar. Not sure what the hype is. Not worth $30. Flavour was lacking. Not much crab meat or roe. It was mostly liquid. [TO GO] They do put the crab roe and the carb [rice/noodle] in separate containers so it's not mushed when you eat it. I would like to try their other items next time.

We found this place on ig reels and I feel like people hype this up for no reason. I'm confused how people say this is delicious. For $21 we shared this and if I were to pay for this for myself I would rather eat American ramen noodles from the grocery store. I was very disappointed when we got this. We got it over noodles and the flavor was not it for me. They give you some sides of ear mushroom, pickle radish, and some vinegar sauce. I wouldn't waste my money or time walking over to this place. If you want good food, eat somewhere else aka street food.

Come here for the Crab Roe. It's what they're known for and it tastes amazing. I personally ordered this with rice, which comes separate, so you pour the crab roe over rice. The smaller size is $22 and the larger size is $31. You can also get this with noodles, which I bet it probably also tastes just as good. I've also tried other items on the menu. Highlights include their Three Fresh Shrimp Wontons ($12). Note that this does not mean you only get three pieces as you may be lead to believe. I think they're trying to convey that there's three shrimps in one piece of wonton. I also enjoyed their Crab Roe Xiao Long Bao ($19), although I really wanted to try their Crab Roe & Peking Duck & Pork Soup Dumplings, but they were sold out of any Peking Duck related soup dumplings at the time. Lastly, I think the most underrated thing to order on the menu here is the Flaky Pastry w Red Bean Paste ($15). Great way to end the meal with a dessert, which comes in this box. They appear to be freshly made, so they're piping hot.

Another viral IG spot. It's the first stall inside the New York Food Court in Flushing. As a seafood lover, I couldn't wait to try their signature crab roe noodles. The meal came with a cup of tea and 3 sides-radish, wood ear mushrooms, and half a boiled egg. The portion was a good amount. Flavor-wise was very disappointing. It was lacking in flavors and tasted a little funky.

Wish this review could be better for this immigrant-owned, niche ingredient, food court hall business; but sorry! Finally came in to get food from here. New York Food Court is the less popular & visited food court in the area, but it's actually conveniently located on Roosevelt Ave. - on the way to Skyview Mall (Target, Adidas outlet, Uniqlo...). I think the small plain entrance doesn't help. The food hall itself is really big with maybe 20 vendors but I've barely seen a 25% full. Xiebao is the first stall on the left, right went you enter. Good luck to them braving the winter drafts! I got there around 7pm on a Tuesday. It's decorated like a giant ad for crab roe & the ordering counter is very slim, with a small window to the kitchen behind it. There's also a kiosk. Wasn't sure if it was open, but the worker comes out a lot. I ordered the Crab Roe Noodle (as I was influenced to do LOL). It was $21.27 (cash %). The nice woman poured me a cup of I think red date tea, gave me a buzzer & said that it'll take 20 minutes. The loud buzzer went off probably under 10 minutes. It's nice that the noodle comes in a proper bowl - the worker emphasized "bringing the tray back to their counter after." The sides included some vinegar, lightly pickled cabbage, lightly seasoned wood ear mushroom, and a soy hard-boiled egg. These were all really good actually. The wheat/rice noodles were nice, like a thicker version of vermicelli. There was actually a good portion of it for a small. They were a little stuck together because they got cold, I'd recommend mixing the sauce and the noodles a little more than you think you should. I didn't want the sauce absorbing into all of the noodles and actually wasn't sure if there was enough for the noodles. But halfway through, I realized that there was and it would've been more balanced if I distributed everything thoroughly at the beginning. That being said, the sauce just reminds me of a takeout lobster sauce, but crab flavored with crabby roe bits. There were seafoody undertones, but actually this dish was SO BLAND. The first 2 or 3 bites were okay but it quickly became one note. And needed some salt, maybe chili, or even a pat of butter. The sides were nice, because it broke up the flavor and texture. Tried a little bit of vinegar on a few bites and wasn't crazy about those flavors. I sometimes eat a little of the crab roe when eating fresh crabs, but realized why I don't usually. The orange bits in the sauce, were tasteless & reminded me of salted duck egg, but without any flavor! Not sure if it's because January isn't peak season. But even in a foodie group, one diner mentioned that this Shanghainese specialty uses a particular type of crab and the roe here is from tasteless blue crab. So idk, maybe I came during the off-season, but overall; the star of the dish - the sauce, didn't have any flavor or depth to it. Everything was cooked well though. Set your expectations low if you decide to try that dish.

I'm not going to lie, after reading and seeing all the raving reviews about their crab roe rice, I feel cheated. My family grew up eating crabs a lot and the roe (head butter) of the crab is always a favorite part of the crab. My mom and I were so excited to come try this legendary dish but left severely disappointed. If you EVER had fresh crab with roe, you would know how it SHOULD actually taste; subtly sweet, butteryyy, semi ocean taste but not fishy etc. I'm so sorry to say this dish was none of that :'( . It just had a salty taste of canned(?)/ not fresh mush. We had also ordered a side vegetable dish and wow, they legit just blanched it and doused it in soy sauce because there was also no other taste except saltiness. I am convinced everyone who is saying it's SOOO good has never had the real thing before. For the price and portion of it all, I would say to skip this spot for your next Flushing food crawl. Also, go buy fresh blue crabs from the supermarket (when crabs are in season) to truly taste how delicious the roe actually is.

We came here because we saw a Tiktok on this and wanted go try it! Best decision ever, owner is super sweet and the crab roe was delicious. Crab roe w/ rice - 10/10, decent amount of crab roe and rice, and he also gave us extra side dishes because he saw we were splitting it! Service was amazing and food was great. I would come back again next time I am in Flushing!

    Crab Roe Over Rice(Normal)

Xirbao Crabhouse is one of the places commonly seen on social media Flushing Food Crawls. I couldn't find it until I crossed the street near it and realized it's in a big food court with a very small unmarked door. I guess it's an iykyk sort of thing! On to the food... Delicious! The crab roe comes over rice and there is a cup of tea, a boiled egg, wood ear mushroom, and vinegar. I ate everything but the egg. All I can really say is it's delicious and I should have ordered more things. It's butter and rich and the vinegar compliments it. I'll be back next time I'm in Flushing!

Small/Sampler sized of Crab Roe w Rice

Xie Bao is a place that had shown up on my IG quite a bit so i've been wanting to try this place since probably before my visit Sept 2024. They specialize in crab roe so they'll have dishes like crab roe with rice/noodles, crab roe XLB, to things like crab roe mooncake/spring roll, etc. Xie Bao is located just through the entrance from Roosevelt in the New York Food Court, 1st stall on the left. You can order either through the screen to the left of the stall or directly at the cashier. Since its in a food court, all the seating/tables are shared with all the other restaurants. I'm not sure how busy this food court gets but i essentially sat right in front of the restaurant as it was pretty dead at like 5pm on a Sunday. I had ordered the CRAB ROE WITH RICE (small/sampler size). Actually comes out pretty quick. You get 3 sample cups of sides - pickled cabbage, wood ear mushrooms, and 1/2 a seasoned boiled egg. Also a small amount of vinegar too. And a small cup of tea. Initially when you receive your order, it looks like a good amount of crab roe but compared to the amount of rice you get, its definitely NOT enough. Flavor wise is quite lacking. I love crab roe and there's definitely not much of that flavor. Vinegar helps it not be that heavy and brightens up the dish overall. The pickled cabbage and wood ear mushrooms were tasty but you get just a miniscle amount. When you pick up your order, the worker requests you to bring back everything in the tray to them when you finish. For the $23ish i paid, definitely NOT worth the hype it had recieved on IG. Sad. Oh well. Tried it. Life goes on.

Crab Roe with Rice (Sampling size) $24.55

No the name has nothing to do with bao or bun. Crabs Precious, that's the English translation for the restaurant name, specialize its dishes around crab roes. I've heard about it a few years ago when it went viral. After walking through 3 food courts today, we thought it's finally time to try it. The menu has a few other items, but the main attractions are of course its signature crab roe over rice or noodle. I didn't think the roe would attach to the noodle so I chose rice. There are 2 serving sizes to choose from: "sampling" or "supreme" for $24.55 and $33.55, respectively. We were able to see the physical sizes from other patrons at the tables. The "sampling" size was tiny, especially considering its cost, but it's a no brainer since we were on a food crawl. Now the taste. Being a crab lover, I was disappointed I didn't get so much of that familiar crab roe taste as much as fishy or even earthy taste. Worse, the crab roe slur, while covering the surface through and through, was no match for the amount of rice underneath, So basically I had my last few bites of rice by itself with nothing else to go with it. And should I repeat, the serving size was tiny, really lived up to the "sampling" badge on the menu. Bottomline, absolutely not worth the experience nor your money. Skip it.

Checked out Xie Bao 蟹寶 in Flushing and thought the crab roe concept was super interesting. Definitely something different and fun to try. We ordered the signature crab roe with white rice and crab roe xiao long bao. Both were full of crab roe and meat, but surprisingly lacked that strong crab flavor I was expecting. The xiao long bao had a creamy texture, but the skin was a little thick and it wasn't as juicy as I hoped. Also think they could use better quality white rice. It would really help bring out the richness of the roe, especially given the price $33.55. Overall, glad we gave it a shot. I'd say 3.5 out of 5. Worth trying if you're curious, but not sure I'd rush back.

I want to get this place more stars, the specialty is crabmeat and roe . Unfortunately, the items I order , it has very little crab meat in it. Barely taste it. The service was good and is located in the food court.

Luckily, there was only a short wait for our party of two at around 12pm...but I suspect the wait can be much longer later in the afternoon or during peak dinner times. Once your number is called, you go up some stairs to the eating/tabled area. There are tables and chairs for 2, 4 and more guests throughout the large space. The pace of the restaurant is very fast...as soon as you are seated, you are given tea and your waiter comes over right away to take any order you are ready to give. Its helpful to ask for a menu while you are waiting for a table so you know what to order when asked. We had some soup dumplings as well as a (large) soup. Everything was very good and out in about 15 minutes...very fast. The soup dumplings were great...but as expected are filled with piping hot broth so be careful when eating. They have some other appetizers and dishes available. There are also some drink options including cold teas, soft drinks and beer. Overall a great experience...despite visiting on a busy Saturday, we were in and out in about 40-45 minutes. Street parking can be tough in the area but there are a few garages around...one of the more reasonable options is the garage at the Skyview shops which currently charge about $6 for up to three (3) hours and is a short 5 minute walk away.
