This restaurant is pretty well known amongst the locals and for good reason too! Dishes are delicious and very reasonably priced. Though make sure you have cash on hand or can pay with venmo. Pretty sure you'll find that cash is king here in Flushing. Literally a hole in the wall restaurant. Turn left when you enter to be led into a narrow alley leading to the main dining area or head on straight upstairs for more seating during peak hours. Very foreigner/non Asian friendly as menu comes with pictures. Staff are very attentive and are always walking around. Staff can speak conversational English. Restaurant is as clean as it gets in Flushing. Their Xiao long bao is very good! Definitely a staple whenever I go. Shao Mai is good too. And omg the soup they gave you as a complementary dessert at the end is soooo good.

    Garlic green beans, delicious!

Service was great, plenty of help on the floor for quick seating and quick service. We are here in NYC for our beloved Dodgers vs the NY Mets. We took the #7 to the Flushing main St stop, wow! I read they had great Asian food here but I didn't realize I would be in Asia. We were recently in Tokyo and in Korea, it felt just like we were there again. Ok, back to the restaurant, we ordered seafood and noodles, garlic green beans and pork Shao mai, so delicious. And a secret we didn't know if not for a gentleman next to us. Below the Shao Mai there were complimentary soup dumplings!! And they were amazing. I'd come back here for the food (next time the Dodgers are here), it was very enjoyable. And you know you're in the right place when it's all locals enjoying this very busy gem.

We had a group of 7 so we had free Peking duck buns, one per person. The food is always good here and the price is very fair for flushing. We love their soup dumplings. I do like the bayside location more than the flushing location because flushing only has one bathroom and it's a smaller compared to bayside.

Great spot for family dinner. -Peking Duck: crispy duck skin with tons of Baos. We got half a duck and it came with 12 Baos. -scallion chicken: juicy chicken with ginger scallion sauce. Would get again -house fried rice: tasty, and was super generous in toppings (shrimp, pork, etc.) -soup dumplings: this was a freebie and it was delicious! Service was great and restaurant was clean.

I'm here again in downtown Flushing, the place to go for reasonably priced asian food and reasonably priced anything. I gotta slow down eating out so often. I think I'm gaining weight. However, its somewhat diffucult because my whole family are all foodies, and my niece is a Yelper. In any case, my wife wanted to grab a few Peking Duck wraps, $2.75 each, at the outside takeout window. You can't go wrong with Peking Duck. It was delicious and very satisfying. Recommend if you need a quick bite to eat.

Such an awesome place! That sells Peking duck bun by the piece! For a very reasonable price. Perfect for a flushing food tour, and delicious portion of crispy, fatty, duck in a nice bun. Would definitely go back and am salivating thinking of it!

All it takes is one year for changes in the menu. Last year one could have two duck buns and get six soup dumplings on the house. This year? The bill came to $13.34 as I was charged $9.50 for the dumplings even though the bill clearly showed Free Soup Dumpling. Therein lies the mystery. The bun was served with great flair and was tasty. The soup dumplings had the requisite thin skin and juicy pork filling. Lots of the customers had ordered these or a variation of it as many are now available. A bowl of congee is also given to all. Service is efficient. A fine looking China teapot is on each table and I asked for iced water. A gender neutral restroom is at the back. As one enters Shanghai You Garden one can see line cooks making the celebrated dumplings. No visit is complete without eating even a small bite here.

This place is what Flushing is all about! Their duck buns are incredibly affordable and even more delicious. The meat is so juicy and tender, and when paired with the crispy, sharp green onions and the soft bun, you get an amazing bite at an extremely affordable price. The service is fast and efficient, and if you don't feel like eating in, you can just use their super convenient takeout window. Just keep in mind they are cash only, but I highly recommend this place!

Finally able to visit this popular spot. Been hearing great stuff for many years but never dine in until now. Came with friends for an late breakfast (or is it brunch?). There is a dine-in table promotion [must spend $10] which you can get a choice of either: 1 order pork soup dumplings OR 1 piece Peking duck bun per person at the table. We chose the soup dumplings. Family style meal; we ordered: Braised Pork, Fried dough rice roll, Spicy Pork Soup Dumpling, Soy Sauce Duck, Garlic Cucumber, Roast Ribs, and Pan-fried Beef Udon Noodles. Place is super spacious and stretch all the way to the back. Service and staff was quick; staff brought over stuff as soon as it was ready as it was early with only a few other tables filled. Lots of eyes to pay attention to us since they had just opened for the day. Food was good. Spicy pork soup dumplings were not that spicy. Everything was amazing! Flavorful and tender, crispy (duck skin), or crunchy (cucumber). My favorite (also the table's favorite) was the braised pork. So tender and flavorful that it melts in your mouth- goes great with a bowl of hot steaming fresh rice. The garlic cucumber provides a great palate cleanser as it was refreshing. I'm a noodle lover but we did struggle to finish the udon as it wasn't anything special compared to the other dishes. The udon was nicely charred (wok hay) but we enjoyed the other dishes more. Good thing it came last We finished everything even though some were abit heavy for a first meal of the day. That is why you wash everything down with many cups of hot tea!!! At the end of the meal, it even came with a complimentary dessert soup at the end. That was a lovely sweet surprise. Highly recommend! I'm super happy that I was able to visit here and try the food. Although it would also been nice to try their Peking duck bun as they are known for it. Perhaps another visit.

Garden Special Soup Dumplings, pan fried pork and chive

This place is amazing! It was quite busy and we waited about 15-20 minutes to get seated for a weekend lunch, but they move quickly and the space is pretty large. First of all, every table gets a complimentary order of pork xiao long bao, which I have never seen any restaurant do before. The XLB had the perfect delicate wrapper with flavorful soup and juicy meat inside. We also tried the sheng jian bao, which are crispy pork buns. These were so good and I think I liked them even more than the XLB. The garden soup dumplings were a fun variety with different flavors. We also had the pan fried pork and chive dumplings, which were nicely crispy and very satisfying. Overall, an amazing spot and everything we ordered was delicious. Fast and friendly service. Highly recommend!

I've been coming here since they first opened and I'm so glad their business has gotten better and better that they've expanded for more dine in seats (they got the place next door and opened up the upper floor). Pretty authentic Shanghainese cuisine, I know it's not as good as those in Shanghai ofc but hey, it's close! Deal for dine in: spend $10 or more and get either free pork soup dumplings (6pcs) or a pc of Peking duck bun per person at the table. I always opt for the soup dumplings! I usually come for breakfast/lunch so I regularly order the same (for 2 persons - to share): - salted tofu pudding - 4 pc turnip puff - 4 pc pork moon cake - shredded pork and preserved vegetable noodle soup - curry beef vermicelli soup Environment: usually busy Service: standard Please note: cash only

Wontons in peanut sauce, Pan fried pork buns, Soup dumplings, Sesame ball, tofu skin roll
    Ingrid H.

This is a nice place with a well decorated interior that serves dim sum all day. Somehow, they give every table a free order of soup dumplings. We tried several dim sum items. The fried tiny buns were the best, the filling was very juicy and the texture of the bun was perfect with a soft bready shell that soaked up flavor from the filling, and a crispy exterior. The sesame balls will also delicious. They had just the right amount of greasiness and were filled with rich red bean. The wontons in peanut sauce were filled with pork and vegetables, and the sauce was balanced and flavorful. The bean curd roll had good flavor, and the pork filling is studded with pieces of bouncy shrimp. The free soup dumplings were quite good also, with a good amount of rich, porky soup in each which paired perfectly with the standard black vinegar ginger sauce. The prices are very reasonable. We really enjoyed our experience here.

    Pork belly
    Felipe W.

Everything brought to the table was absolutely amazing! The pork belly was a home run, the soup dumplings was a fan favorite, the asparagus was the best it can be, and oof, that soup. This is the soup you wish you had when you're sick - it's got all the fat, flavor, tons of vegetables and tons of meat. In fact it was so fatty I had to ask for water to dilute it. Come here for a guaranteed amazing time with Chinese food - they know what they're doing and they're not afraid to show off. For the vibes - you can see the amount of work they put into having a traditional theme with flair. Even in food with the pig and pork belly on its back - hilarious!

How was the take out experiences? Long wait? Was the food as good as dine in?

This food is meant to be eaten fresh, in the restaurant. If you get take out, it's still very good, but your soup dumplings won't have any soup left.

The staff wanted my wife to sit at an angle to the table; so that they could pass through. The seafood itself was solid traditional Cantonese fare with fresh lobster tanks, steamed fish, and classic banquet-style dishes. The atmosphere felt colorful authentic Hong Kong banquet hall energy. However, some of their pricing was completely out of whack. Mother's Day premium for sure which is understandable, but some dishes were simply excessively expensive for what was delivered. For example, our two lobsters, while fresh, were missing that smoky "wok hei" flavor that great Cantonese kitchens are known for. It lacked the depth, aroma, and richness one expects from a proper high-heat wok preparation. A few items felt priced more for Guide Michelin luxury dining than a Flushing seafood hall. This said, the service was efficient and professional; changing plates all the time. So a high level of attention above the usual Cantonese restaurant. Overall, decent food in and an authentic Hong Kong style restaurant that targets special family gatherings, but be prepared, both the crowds and the bill can become overwhelming very quickly. I paid more than $400 for three people. But we had a Tiger Fish which is $50 per pound.

I have so many reasons to believe that Emperor is truly the reincarnation of the restaurant...just a little rusty. I've only come here for dim sum and I'm still surprised it doesn't get even half of the insane volume that nearby dim sum restaurants get, especially with how much closer they are to Roosevelt Ave. I have to say that the dim sum here is slightly better than most locations in the core downtown area, both in presentation and taste. No cart ladies, just a paper and pencil ordering system. The other diners that I usually encounter seem to strike me as locals, which is becoming harder to find these days. Prices are slightly more expensive than the other places, which is probably a factor as to why there aren't as many customers. The other reason is probably the subpar customer service here, which I've encountered on a number of recent visits. There are so many workers here, but none of them seem to have any good grasp of what customer service is. For example, I've had the waiter hover over me as I was gathering cash for my bill and snatched it the moment I placed the money down, also demanding at least 18% (again, for subpar service). Also, if you complain to them about your food, even if you find a hair, they will not do anything about it. The food quality is slightly above most of the dim sum places, but also bear in mind the hit-or-miss service you'll get, which the latter can be super frustrating.

And here, in a cavernous banquet hall in Queens packed with hundreds of people clinking teapots and hailing steam carts, there is an absolute purity of discipline. I sat down, and within thirty seconds, the assault began. First came the Siu Mai. Look at the structure. Most chefs get lazy they pad the filling with filler, turn the pork to rubber, and overcook the shrimp until it loses its soul. But here? You bite through that paper thin yellow wrapper, and there is an unmistakable, violent snap of fresh, sweet prawn bound with perfectly seasoned pork. It's juicy, rich, and utterly balanced. No nonsense. Just technique. Then, the Har Gow. The true test of any dim sum kitchen. If the translucent skin sticks to the bamboo steamer or tears under your chopsticks, the kitchen has failed. Period. But when the basket opened, the steam rose with that clean, pure scent of rice starch and sweet seafood. The pleating on the dumpling was flawless tight, delicate, holding together a filling of whole, pristine shrimp that tasted like they were swimming an hour ago. And the atmosphere? Pure theatre. You're not here for a leisurely dining experience, you're here to eat something delicious and get on with your day. My one gripe, and it applies to the whole surrounding area and not just Maxi's: there are basically no bathrooms to be found. Plan accordingly before you commit to a big bowl of soup. Cheap, tasty, authentic. Everything a Flushing noodle spot should be.
