This place has the best casual Shanghainese food in the Tri state area. Smoke fish and pork belly are must orders there. The wait staff was attentive and friendly like eating at a friend's kitchen. Decoration reminds one of the traditional Shanghai restaurant before the civil war. Should be a destination restaurant for Shanghai cuisine lover.

Solid place for Shanghainese food! We've been to Nan Xiang and Shanghai You Garden many times- Red House is a hidden gem tucked away in a building complex on Prince. The restaurant is small with a handful of tables for four people and a few larger ones in the back. It wasn't busy on a Saturday afternoon. We enjoyed the tender braised pork belly, sour cabbage fish slice stew, spicy chicken appetizer, Shanghai style zong (sticky rice), chicken and bok choi stir fried noodles (kids loved it!!), and pan fried pork buns - so crispy and juicy! Definitely recommend coming here for a family style meal if you're craving classic Shanghai type dishes that won't disappoint. Good portion sizes too.

Thoughtful TC, brought us a beautifully decorated birthday Fruit Cake. So refreshing and light.

Located in the heart of Downtown Flushing, close to Flushing's new mall, Tangram. Red House Restaurant is what I've been told is authentic Shanghainese food. I loved walking into the ambience of old decor in the front and new towards the back, with Chinese Hip Hop playing throughout. My thoughtful Yelp friends, Anna and TC did the ordering of Popcorn Chicken with Fried Basil Leaves, Scallion Noodles, Pan Fried Pork Buns and Braised Pork Belly, all accompanied with one small bowl of soup. I'm sure more soup orders would've been brought to the table if requested. Though, as all items ordered were more than enough to share, additional soups were not necessary. The service was accommodating as Anna and TC speak the language fluently and were able to take command of the luncheon. So no extended waits for water or our meals. Would I go back? Yes. But not without guidance from my friends. As a novice to the area like me, downtown Flushing can be overwhelming with its tight knit streets filled with cars, pedestrians and jam packed to the brim with an abundance of sooo many restaurant choices, that I feel compelled to see what other authenticities are there to be enjoyed. Thank you both for a wonderful day! (8/20/2022)

Had a HORRIBLE experience. Food: The food was average at best. Ordered the White Chopped Chicken, Spicy Pork Noodles, Stir Fried Eel, and Smoked Fish. The White Chopped Chicken came without the sauce and I had to request for it which is ridiculous. What if the customers are not familiar with this dish? The Spicy Pork Noodles was average, not bad but not good. The Stir Fried Eel was the worst. In fact, I have a feeling they gave us the wrong dish. Everyone else get this dish served in a bowl but we got it in a plate. And it was missing scallions and only had a few pieces of eel, completely not worth the price. The only dish I liked was the Smoked Fish. It was warm and fresh. Service: The service was HORRIBLE. I have never been to a restaurant with such rude and inattentive waiters. When we got to our table, we were missing a chair. The waiter saw and told us he will go get one. But we waited a long time and he never returned with a chair. Do they expect customers to eat STANDING UP?! They also keep ignoring our calls; it take us 30 mins after being seated to order. They also did not provide chopsticks and plates. We had to request them. There was also a dog in the restaurant. Isn't it a law that dogs are not permitted in indoor dining? Overall, this was a fail lunch and I will NOT be returning. I will also NOT RECOMMEND this restaurant to others.

Over a week ago, I made a reservation via Yelp for a lunch date with my girlfriend. The restaurant's location is between Congee Village and The Dolar Shop. The weather was gorgeous in the high 80s today. I love the beautiful Chinese lanterns hung from the ceiling throughout the restaurant. Food: *sharing is caring* Taiwanese Salted Pepper Chicken - OMG, I love the aroma! Mmm yummy. Shanghai Fried Noodles - I love slurping up the noodles. Mmm flavorful. Shanghai Pan Fried Pork Buns - Sadly, the bottom of the bun wasn't crispy enough. Next time, I will bring my parents here because they love eating authentic Shanghainese cuisine!

Saw the sharing on Xiaohongshu so I decided to try the Shanghai cuisine. It feels like a family own business and they are quite nice and responsive. The service was good. I went in a Wednesday evening, they were busy but the service was quick in general. I ordered the shaoxing chicken. I thought it would be drunken chicken because of the name of shaoxing rice wine. But there is nothing to do with the wine at least I did not taste any wine inside. The chicken was served soft and fresh but they forgot to provide the sauce at the beginning so the chicken itself is flavorless. Have to dip the sauce. Also I ordered the pork intestine soup noodle. The intestine was too oily. Overall taste was ok. Nothing wrong but nothing impressive either.

Ok food, slow service. The fried buns is not the Shanghainese style I was looking for. The skin is fluffy. Kinda tasteless. I'd give 3/5. The red braised pork belly with rice was really good! 4.5/5 My husband ordered a soup noodle with spicy pork. Can't remember the name. It tastes like the Korean bean paste and the pork tastes weird. I'd give it a 2.5/5. And the owner (or manager? Idk) has a giant dog. It's very cute, but I'm not sure if it's a health code violation. It was hanging out in the dining area

Don't come here if you're in a hurry. Everything is made to order. We shared two soups, a shrimp wonton, and a beef noodle. The former was a superior version with delicate dumplings and bits of sliced egg. But the five stars are for the beef soup whose rich, mildly spicy broth was superb. There was a generous amount of beef; some cartlagenous, some tender. The noodles were just right. Perfect for a winter's day.

Very tasty, authentic Shanghai food. As I ordered by Ubereat, the food was cold. But I definitely will order again

Absolutely Shanghainese's flavor, this restaurant has established in this location for just a few month, all dishes looked very authentic home cooking, I would love to come back with bunch of friends!

Very authentic homestyle Shanghainese food. Some things they serve you can't find in other Shanghainese restaurants, tastes like home.

Overall, the experience wasn't good. As others have mentioned, the service is really slow. I think it's because they're just understaffed with waiters (there was only 1 waitress for all the tables). The food was also just very average - not great, not terrible. The main thing for me was that the place was dirty. We were given plates and cups that clearly weren't washed properly, if at all. It was pretty disgusting. Also, not sure why there is a giant dog in the middle of the restaurant.

The filling was decent, but the vinegar on the side was too mild. I'm used to a darker, more robust vinegar with XLB, so this didn't quite hit. Braised pork - very tender and flavorful, served with quail eggs. This was one of the stronger dishes. Yangzhou fried rice - not too oily which I liked, but served with only 5 an small shrimps... Sweet & sour shredded potato (cold dish) - slightly spicy, I really enjoyed this one. It was part of a promo where you can get it for $1 when you spend $30 on entrees, so definitely worth adding. Overall, I enjoyed the meal. Not everything stood out, but it's solid enough that I'd recommend it, and I'd come back to try more of the menu.

However, recently it's been hit or miss. Today was both - the garlic pork belly cold dish was super tasty! The garlic chili oil was spicy, sweet and fragrant. The pork bun ( I have eaten at almost every establishment that serves pork buns in flushing) was disgusting. The pork was almost grey and the it smelled like it was a day away from spoiling. It's really hard to justify a bad experience like this when there are literal hundreds of flushing vendors that serve the exact same cuisine with better quality control. Catch me a Zie Wei Xiao Chi next time I'm in the mood for a pork bun.

Plus, you get a free show out of it because all of the cooking is on display next to the register! Ambiance-wise, well, this is New World Mall's food court so be prepared to hustle for a table. This is not fine dining, people, but it is straight up good food worth going out of your way for.

Usually, the Sheng Jian Bao you get from the Shanghainese Restaurant are tender with a thicker bun. I was introduced to have it with aged vinegar and chilly sauce. It bought the taste of the bun to a level of an explosion. Stop by and try an order when you visit Flushing. It is located in a food court inside the New World Mall. It looks cheesy but tasty. Calvin
