2 meats over rice (bbq roast pork and crispy roast pork)
Karen M.

First time at this location (we usually eat at the East Broadway location in Chinatown) and was pleasantly surprised by the spacious and somewhat modern seating inside. There were nice booths and round tables for slightly larger groups. Food was great and the bbq roast meats were just as good as we have had at the other location. This location is smack in the middle of Main Street off of Roosevelt which is generally chaotic but it was nice to be able to have a sit down meal with full service for reasonable prices and great flavors. This location had a wider selection of special dishes too.

Preserved Meat Clay Pot Rice

Cuisine: 6 Service: 7 Decor: 7 Value: 6 Overall: 6 Let me start off by saying that I love both King's Kitchen in Brooklyn and Chinatown, therefore. i was very excited to see a branch open in Flushing. Sadly, this location does not live up to the reputation. The decor was nice the service was fine. However, the food portions and quality left a little to be desired. Preserved Meat Clay Pot Rice (6/10) - We came for this item, but it was disappointing. The clay pot felt small and the rice was too crispy, almost hard. Not just the bottom as expected, most of the rice was too hard and hurt the jaw. The preserved meats were okay, but only two kinds. Triple Roast Meat Combo (6.5/10) - Best of the bunch might have been the roast duck. The scallion chicken was not traditional, but flavorful. Unfortunately both came with mostly bones, which makes this order quite expensive. Lastly, the roast pork came way too lean, especially when we requested specifically for the meat to be not too lean. Beef Chow Fun (6/10) - The noodles were somewhat light in flavor, lacking in wok hey, and some of the beef was way too chewy. What I liked was that there were plenty of bean sprouts. However, it needed more red onions and chives. Dried Shrimp Steamed Rice Roll (8/10) - Unanimous best dish of the night. Smooth and just the right thickness, perfect consistency. The flavor was great too. Maybe needed a tad more soy sauce. I'll give it a few more months for them to work out their kinks and come try again. Hopefully I can update this review at that point.

This location is SO MUCH BETTER than the other locations of King's Kitchen in the city and BK. It's spacious and clean, service is also great, though for a Cantonese place I'd expect all servers to be able to speak Cantonese. The menu's also expansive, with many more choices than the other locations. We went for dishes and barbecue pork this time. The barbecue pork's much better than what we had before at other locations.

I'm surprised by the low reviews! I thought the food was delicious for its price point. When ordering, stay away from the larger dishes and order their clay pot rices, rice rolls, and other smaller dishes. All of the small dishes we ordered were so delicious! The fried dough (youtiao) was the showstopper. I've never had such a fresh version and I'd say this is a must. Their larger plates (seafood soup and cabbage vermicelli) were just okay and we probably wouldn't order again. Instead, we'd rather order more clay pit rice bowls or rice rolls. Interior is also clean and nicely decorated. I would definitely come back.

Yellow eel rice casserole

One of the few restaurants that sells yellow eel rice casserole. I was surprise to see it was only $15. The one I had in Brooklyn cost a lot more. We'll, you get what you paid for. This one doesnt taste good. It has some oily taste.. The salty fish meat rice casserole is decent. I tastes the salty fish. I had better rice casserole in other restaurants in Queens. I think the soy sauce is not as tasty as I had in other restaurants....

Ate here today with my mom for lunch. We definitely got different kinds of dishes to eat and share together. The service there was also attentive and quite fast and efficient and the food we got absolutely delicious and savory. We couldn't agree more about it. Finally, I would definitely eat and come back again next time! :)

Read so many bad reviews, but still decided to give it a try... first off the place was really clean. Was seated right away, and given tea. I ordered the roast duck and soy chicken over rice. WOW wow wow!!! 10/10 the garlic sauce over give it an amazing taste. Our waiter was very nice and friendly. Definitely recommend it

Rice Rolls with Dried Shrimp and Chair Siu Rice Rolls
Sam Y.

3.5 overall Ordered for takeout. They are conveniently located on Main Street by the subway station. There was a small line on a Saturday morning. They mostly speak Chinese. Rice Roll with Dried Shrimp was packed! It is more cilantro flavor than dried shrimp flavor, but still good flavors overall. The rice roll has a good texture and thinness. Char Siu Rice Roll was also packed. The char siu had pretty good flavor! It does not really need extra soy sauce. You Tiao was huge! It is crisp outside and soft inside. Super oily though, even after dabbing it with paper towel, so not for me. I could only eat one bite. Wonton Noodle has good noodle texture. The soup compliments the noodles. The wonton has good pork filling, but no shrimp, which I prefer in my wonton. Note: no tax with cash Will have to try the roasted meats next time!

Clay pot rice

Came here on a rainy day so I enjoyed the fact that they were serving hot tea. The interior was very clean and refreshing and the aroma of all the food definitely worked up my appetite. We got a dish of stir fried fish, clay pot rice, char siu and bbq pork ribs as well as durian puffs. The durian puffs were delicious and was definitely my favorite but that is because I usually love durian however it was just pretty pricey (basically 3 dollar per puff). Other than that, I also really enjoyed the cuts of char siu and bbq pork ribs. However, I did not enjoy the clay pot rice which is a dish that I usually love. I thought that it was pretty flavorless. The fish also caught me by surprise. I thought it was just regular stirred fish but the texture was so similar to like a squid air something. It was weirdly bouncy The staff were super sweet though and checked up on us here and there. Will definitely be back again to try their duck and some other dishes in the future.

Ricerolls (charsiu vermecelli, fish paste)

This is a new Cantonese spot located in a very high foot traffic area along Main Street. They have also branches in Brooklyn and Chinatown. The menu contained lots of the typical dishes like rice noodles, claypot rice, stir fried dishes, dim sum etc. We stopped by for lunch on the weekend around 2:30 and luckily the lunch rush seemed to be over. The staff takes orders via tablet and they seemed very busy the entire time we were there. If you're here for dim sum, come earlier as most of the dim sum dishes we asked about were already sold out for the day. The dishes are green colored with gold accents and look quite fancy. Shout out to the staff who got a new pair of chopsticks for us when my mom dropped them before we even had to flag them down. -Special combo claypot rice (1 premium meats, 2 meats): we chose the yellow eel, quail and cured pork belly (lap yuk). This one took the longest to come out as the staff quoted a 30-35 minute wait. It's a small sized claypot enough for one person. The rice was very crispy and savory, I could tell they used good quality rice for this piece. The lap yuk pieces were small but nice in flavor. The quail I would pass on next time as they chopped it into small pieces so there were a lot of bones to spit out. The eel was disappointing, the portion was small and didn't have much flavor. -Fried Soft shell crab: it was fried and covered in a slightly spicy chili sauce. It wasn't exactly a whole crab but more like a few legs. It was crunchy but I've had better versions of this dish. -Stir fried crispy fish with pickled mustard greens and rice: the flavor for the fish was really nice. It had a slightly smoky charred flavor to the sauce. The fish was soft and not crispy. I wasn't really a fan of the pickled greens but some people might like it. - Golden lava custard bun: it looked really fancy with the black bun and gold paint on top. The custard was sweet and was just the right amount of filling. -Rice noodles (char siu with vermicelli, fish paste): these were not ranked highly among the table. Everyone thought they tasted very bland and we had to douse both dishes in soy sauce. -Roasted squab: an expensive dish but worth trying at least once. The skin was crispy almost like Peking duck. Because of how it was cooked, it took a while to eat each piece. One bird was cut into 4 pieces to share but I wish they cut it smaller to make it easier to eat. Bathrooms were an after thought for the staff. Lots of trash littered on the floor but luckily it didn't smell. We also got some takeout from their front end roasted meats section. The soy sauce chicken was a bit fatty but okay in taste. The crispy pork belly was surprisingly tasty. The fat to meat ratio was good and the skin was super crispy (but still not quite at the level of Kim Tuong in Chinatown).

Salted Fish with Minced Meat Claypot

Finally got to try the new kid on the block, Kings Kitchen. Pretty busy on a Monday a little before noon. About 80% of tables were occupied. Most of their tables are for 2-4 ppl. There are 3 large tables in the back. While the restaurant is big, it's really long and narrow, so it's tight. . Here is what we ordered: 1- Congee with Preserved Duck & Cured Ham - the congee is light, not thick but it was good. More on the soupy side but not liquidy either. It wasn't overly salty with the meats inside which I would have expected. Don't forget the white pepper 2- Youtiao (Fried Dough Stick) - this took forever to arrive, like 30 mins after ordering , which the congee became lukewarm (it came out in 10 mins). I pretty much ate it as since my congee was no longer piping hot and let me tell you, it was so light at fluffy. It did not taste greasy at all. Didn't need any paper towels to absorb the excess oil. I do recommend getting this, but it takes awhile. And you save $1 (originally $3.50) if you order a congee 3 - Salted Fish with Minced Meat Claypot - they're known for their clay pots and it did not disappoint. The patty was flavorful but I think it could've used a tad more salted fish. The rice wasn't sticky, all individual grains, unfortunately there was no crispy rice though. The claypot itself felt small (and compared to the East Broadway location in Manhattan) . In all, I liked the food, the service though, could be better. They were very short on staff. Took us awhile to get seated and then forever to get our orders. I think we were there for almost an hour, typically these places, you should be in and out. Also, most patrons were seniors so they were eating slowly and chilling/chatting with others, so that's another reason why it was packed.

taro with preserved meats claypot rice
Mimee S.

I'm a huge fan of claypot rice and just had to check this place out. Came here on Friday night around 7pm and it was pretty packed but the wait wasn't too bad , at most 10 mins wait? Items we ordered for a party of 4: Taro with preserved meats claypot: At first i thought the rice was undercooked because it was long skinny grains but it was actually very tasty and wished the pot was bigger, but you do get the crispy bottom. Also, not much taro but the meats were very flavorful. Braised beef brisket with tofu skin: very yummy, the brisket was very tender but wished it came with rice to eat with all that sauce. Rice Noodles with roast duck and char siu: Broth was tasty and the char shiu was pretty good. There are two large tables for bigger parties but mostly seatings for 2-4 ppl. Do not recommend coming here with too many ppl.

Evelyn N.

Honestly, nothing special and portions are a little small for the price point. I wouldn't say it's authentic Malaysian or Cantonese cuisine but they have a variety of menu items. We ordered the fried mantou, cha siu ho fun, preserved meat claypot rice, and a salted fish clay pot rice. Although everything had good flavor, wish there were more toppings for each dish. Would come back to try other menu items as it doesn't seem like it'll be hard to get a table even during prime dine time. The service was attentive, and friendly and its newly built so furniture and cutlery were also okay.

Service was minimal at best but they just seemed under staffed honestly. And when the server did come by, she was running quickly to and from. The place was not busy when my friends and I were seated. But there was a back room in guessing that had occupants since she was missing in the front seating area. (There was a two person table occupied in the front near us). My party of three over ordered but that was intentional because, any purchase over $100, you get a free lobster and each of us had items we wanted, figured we would doggie bag the leftovers. All in all a great value. The lunch spread had over 7 dishes and we got the free lobster. I was especially happy to see Fried Milk on the menu as an appetizer. They also provide complimentary salted peanuts and pickled radish and carrot slivers. I recommend the snow pea shoots, fried milk, clams with black bean sauce and the Chinese Broccoli with Filet beef. The other dishes like the lobster, noodles and sweet and sour pork were executed well but just not my flavor profile. And with my food allergy, I couldn't try the shrimp with walnuts but it was my friends' birthday so she ordered that for her treat. It looked great! We were famished and only focused on what yummy dishes to order. My wife, son and daughter all contributed their suggestions and we ended up ordering pan fried whole flounder, half of the roast chicken with garlic, filet mignon with Chinese broccoli, fried rice with chicken and salted fish and everyone's favorite dish salt & pepper squid. Once we placed our order and were enjoying the roasted peanuts and free spicy cabbage we realized why everyone had their winter coats on, it felt like they had the AC on and it must have been 55° in the restaurant. I told everyone that once the food arrived things would warm up. Each dish that came out of the kitchen was perfectly cooked and was delicious. The salt & pepper squid with it's minced jalapeños kept us warm enough until the half chicken with garlic and filet mignon and Chinese broccoli came out in rapid succession. The star of the show turned out to be the giant sized pan fried flounder which was not only big but quite scrumptious. Unlike the little scrawny flounder that most other restaurants usually served this was a quite large and very meaty and perfectly cooked. The last dish to come out was a very large plate of chicken fried rice with salted fish. If it were not for the lack of heat, I would have given Chef Wong Bistro 5 stars!

You also get to watch all the other diners enjoying food with their family and friends. For dinner, it was always done family style. The waiter then proceeded to bend down close to my face (too close for comfort) and asked me in Chinese if I can finish the food or not. His mandarin is a bit hard to understand so I was a bit perplexed if I misheard the question and asked him again then he turned to leave and literally waved me off with his arms (ok..?) I proceeded to hand him $36 and walked out. It's like he couldn't wait to get rid of me or something. Never coming here again to dine in, maybe take out only. This place is cash only btw. If not for the food I'd give 1 star for this epically terrible experience!!! This person should NOT be in the service industry.
