I was dying of a good lobster roll (and hunger) so I decided to give this spot a try... and let me tell ya it didn't disappoint! To start off the service was great. A young lady told me how it works to find a spot and pick my food then go up and order it at the counter. I got the lobster roll w/ mayo (there's really no other way) clam chowder combo x2, 2 rolls, potato salad, and a bowl of lobster stew (told you I was hungry). The food came out fairly fast and it was absolutely amazing. The lobster stew was probably my favorite with a nice buttery creamy broth and nice flaky, juicy lobster chunks. The lobster roll had plenty of lobster and the bun was toasted to perfection! Overall great atmosphere, amazing food, and awesome staff. Thankyou so much for making my visit to Maine even better! So I had a afternoon to kill in Boston before my flight home, and I thought, why not rent a car and drive to Maine for some lobster? So I typed in lobster and ended up here. ~$40 for a whole lobster boiled. No frills, just straight up freshness. Friendly staff. Very happy that I came here! Only knock is the parking situation. I had to circle a few times to find free parking. Can't imagine what parking is like in the summertime. read more

Ah, you found it! The coveted locals gem. The most charming restaurant in arguably the most charming place in all of New England. The concept,ambiance and menu are an absolute dead ringer. This place is literally what you envision while your mind wonders off on a long quite car ride. Right across from the harbor master in Perkins Cove. Fishing boats coming in; the squeal of another lobster going into the pot (kidding) This is Maine!!! The weathered hardwood of the floor matches the tables and bench seating in the dining room. When you walk in the first person you talk to is the owner, he takes the order and oversees the kitchen....Solid! Staff completely on point; friendly, clean and helpful. You just take an open table and they bring you your order that's made fresh. I had a nicely poured beer on draft that was ice cold. We ate here three times in five days. To get to the point the lobster was cooked perfectly. It does make me wonder how many they have cooked over the years. Honorable mention goes to the haddock sandwich and crab cake sandwich both fantastic but the winner by a landslide was the seafood chowder. I spent a decade as an executive chef all over the place. I like chowder. This one was the best I have eaten. It just is. Best broth in the business. You go to Di Fara for a Sicilian pie and you go to lobster shack for seafood chowder. I can taste it writing this review. Also to be fair this place blows all of the other restaurants in the cove out of the water. The owner seemed respected and to take good care of his staff. *** 4.5 stars *** Definitely one of the best lobster rolls I've ever had and a steal at $17 for the amount (1/4 pound) and quality of lobster that comes in the roll. Perhaps this is normal for Maine, but coming from LA where a lobster roll with that much meat would easily run double the price, I was very happy. You can get 1/2 pound of lobster for $28 and I definitely considered it because it was such a good deal, but I decided to go for the lunch special instead and add a cup of clam chowder (also very good!). I'm not a fan of mayo so I was also happy that I could order it without and that the butter sauce comes on the side. Although there is generally a line out the door, it turns quickly. You walk in and pay/order at the front and your order is brought out to you, so it's quite efficient. First time customer from out of state, just arrived to area after a long day of driving. Drove by at ~7:30p and noticed it was opened until 8pm. Figured it looked perfect to try out. Walked in- not overly friendly behind counter which made me feel a bit uncomfortable. I'm use to restaurant owners greeting you and even offering advice or suggestions as we stood there. Kindness does matter when you're spending good $ on their food! Gave our order, sat down & at least waitress made up for being friendly. I was hoping for a bit of more flavor of lobster roll & bun with chips on side -which for the price -fries would of been a bonus! A bit disappointed in hospitality. What a great little place! No frills just order and sit on wooden picnic tables family style and wait for the delicious steamers and lobster! The lobster rolls are delicious as is the clam chowder. Can't go wrong here! Long lunes means good eats! Service is quick and food is cooked as you order so everything is fresh! Have been coming here for years! Love the place! We usually ordered double. Get the lobster roll. A double if you want. Or a triple. Or the Poundah. Whichever, these are the definitive, textbook lobster roll, but better. No celery -- a departure but I think it's better. And brioche rolls, which enhance the lobster's sweetness. Get the chowdah. My pet peeve is that most chowders are thick and white and pasty because they are made with way too much flour. This uses no flour. Herby, with lots of fish. There was a line but worry not, it's fast and efficient. You order as you enter and it comes to table. The people were very courteous. One quaint place with succulent food. Came over here with out-of-town friends in early October, past the summer crowds. The Shack still sported a brisk business but with the difference being that one could sit down with no lines. The chowder was unique, one of the best I've tasted and obviously coked fresh. Then there were the lobster rolls. Yummy. Really, unbelievably yummy. The place is casual, no frills, with a good New England vibe, friendly staff and awesome food. Excellent lunch at Lobster Shack! I had the clam chowder and lobster roll special. The lobster was excellent and it was easily the best clam chowder I ever had. What a lovely spot! This restaurant has an old-time lobsterman feel to it. Lots of real wood pieces throughout, and antique photos of lobstermen. We ordered the lobster roll, clam chowder, lobster stew, and a crab roll. We were immediately greeted by a king gentleman who took our order, and then we sat down at a nearby table. Our food came out in less than 5 minutes. The menu was laid out clearly and their lobster roll with fresh slaw and chips was only $19 (great value!). I am a tough critic, and I've had my share of seafood in towns by water sources. That said, this was some of the best chowder I've ever had, and one of the best lobster rolls I've ever had. The chowder was fresh, delicious, and recently made, with a generous helping of potatoes and clams and fresh herbs. The lobster roll was perfectly toasted and buttered, with a generous portion of lobster meat, not too much mayo, and not over seasoned. I realize some people may find this lobster roll to be, "too plain," but what they need to understand is the lobster at this establishment is so fresh and delicious, that it doesn't need to be over seasoned. The natural flavor comes through on its own and it's glorious. The coleslaw was also fantastic - not over done, and clearly made FRESH with local cabbage and carrots - the bags were out from the local farm right near the kitchen. We were also checked on 3 times to ask if we needed anything or if we needed a refill on our drinks. This is one of if not the best lobster joints in Perkins cove. I HIGHLY recommend stopping in for lunch or dinner. It's simplicity is its secret to real, delicious, mouth watering seafood the way it should be done in Maine. read more

I'm a bit delayed in writing this review. We visited the Lobster Shack for dinner the first Monday in June and it was completely empty when we arrived. Only one other diner came in while we were there. The staff was extremely pleasant and friendly with just the right level of attentiveness. We ordered steamed clams, a lobster roll, and a grilled cheese. I eat mussels a lot, but I think this was my first time trying steamed clams. We were given a cup of water to dip the clam into after pulling it out of the shell. I'm pretty sure I was doing something wrong because the clams still tasted gritty to me, even after a rinse in the water. This was the first lobster roll of our trip, and ultimately our least favorite out of all that we tried. In my opinion, the lobster roll lacked flavor. Even the lobster itself wasn't shining through. All I really picked up on was the buttered bread. Honestly we enjoyed the grilled cheese more than the lobster roll. Both sandwiches came with a side of chips and coleslaw. The coleslaw was creamy and quite good, but the chips were extremely salty. I see a lot of highly rated reviews for Lobster Shack so maybe we just went on an off day. Very casual dine-in and take-out spot in Perkins Cove. You order & pay ahead at the counter, then either sit indoors or eat outside (there are very limited picnic tables by the water). Luckily since I arrived during the late afternoon on a weekday, there were plenty of available indoor tables and zero wait. *Steamed lobster: This sells by market price, which during July 2021 was $20/lb. You choose the size of lobster (ex. 1lb, 1.25lb, 1.5lb, etc). You can see them pull the live lobsters out of a tank behind the counter so you know it's fresh. The price of lobster includes choice of two sides. Most of the sides are mediocre and taste like something out of a Costco package (potato chips, potato salad, coleslaw, roll); but they do have fresh corn as a side option so there's that. The lobster itself of course is delicious, and they make sure to put cuts in the tail and claws so you really don't need lobster cracker tools, but they do provide the tools if needed. Friendly service, very stripped-down and somewhat hole-in-the-wall feel that lives up to the name of "lobster shack", I would recommend this place for visitors who don't mind something a tad on the grungy side but with great prices compared to fancier spots. read more

Overhyped!!! Should have known that this was a tourist trap!!! Parking is impossible. Sure the $29.99 for 2 lobsters and corn was a good deal but the quality of the chowder and the ambiance has much to be desired. Much better shacks within 30 minutes. You get a large bowl of watery white clam chowder that should be called potato chowder. If you drain off the thin watery broth, you have a least a cup and a half of potatoes and maybe a quarter cup of clams. A really poor excuse for "chowder". Someone forgot the flour!!!! The counter staff does not suggest the two lobster platter nor is is listed on their menu board along the ceiling. If you don't read the ad on the wall outside the shack, you don't know they are having a deal. The ambiance is extremely rustic, old, worn, dirty, and uncared for. The signage above the counter is missing letters, taped off with blue tape, and incomplete, similar to their dirty oil stained menus from the last century lost among the junk on the shelves by the front door. read more

This is what you think of when you are thinking a Maine lobster house. It is in among a lovely picturesque town so that probably assists in the general sentiment and charm. It has picnic tables inside and you order from the counter and they bring it to your table. I thought the lobster roll was excellent. The bun was toasted and delicious and the lobster was tender and flavorful. We also had the clam chowder which I thought had good flavor. I don't know if it is the standard there but mine had large pieces of fish in it, in addition to the clams, but my wife's did not. I think this is a good choice if you are in town to see the tiny inlet harbor or a little stroll on the marginal way. read more

Haven't been here in almost 15 or 20 years... I went in with a friend and we both ordered lobster rolls and Diet Coke to drink for about $75 with tip. The lobster was tender and juicy and served with rippled potato chips and a pickle. Even though you order your food and sit at a table afterwards, the staff frequently walked around asking how customers how everything was and provided free soda refills. We came here after Barnacle Billy's and walking around the area a bit. It is a shack, maybe a large shack with not a lot of seating inside. By the time we came back to the Lobster Shake there was a line outside. With maybe 10 people in line in front of us it took about 15 minutes to get inside. The hostess came out and went over the menu and specials and offered us cold water, it was hot outside. I went with the lobster roll special which comes with a side of their clam and fish chowder. Their lobster rolls either come cold and mayo based or warm with melted butter. I was told by both the hostess and the owner (?) that the majority of people, 95% ask for it with mayo, so I followed the crowd. My eating partner for a tuna roll as well as the fish chowder. This chowder was a thinner milk based one as well but was much more flavorful than the one up the road. It is a mix of fish (haddock) and clams and had nice herbs and spices. Supposedly it's a secret recipe that only the owner knows. The lobster roll was pretty good (caveat, i discovering that I'm not a fan of lobster). I liked it more than other other lobster rolls I've had on this discovery trip. The bread was lightly toasted and well buttered. read more

We also got a fish sandwich and it was good, we would go back there. The kids had a cheeseburger and a grilled cheese and they didn't complain. We would give this place a 4.5. Tables are super close, so you'll be almost touching the people on the table next to yours. The bathrooms are very small too, but they're ok. read more
