We came here on a weekend day and were surprised at how busy it was inside. There were a lot of people and parking was difficult but luckily this place has its own lot with a valet staffer who makes money from tips. Comparable parking on a busy day here is $25-30 in various nearby lots, so if you're eating here it makes sense to park. We came as a group of 5 after hearing this place was a good place to get lobster rolls. The market price for one was $38. I think if we could go back we would ask if these lobster rolls were hot or cold, since the ones they serve are cold and not the hot and buttery ones. My partner said that the rolls were actually pretty bland and not worth the price. This place also only serves chips and not fries. I was surprised at the lack of vegetarian options. There were plain and basic salads, garlic bread, and corn. But there was nothing substantive with protein available, which is odd given the amount of vegetarians around these days. Views & cocktails... nothing more!!! Been coming to Barnacle Billy's for years. Has a great location with beautiful harbor views and classic New England charm, which definitely adds to the overall experience. The outdoor seating is perfect on a nice day, and the atmosphere is casual and relaxed--great for families or a quick bite after walking around Perkins Cove. That said, the food was extremely underwhelming and lackluster for the price & lacked any sort of quality or finesse. The lobster was fresh, but lacked seasoning & was hardly any of it on the roll. For $32 I was expecting a whole lot more from the coveted ME Lobster. The Clam Chowder was runny & had no creamy texture to it & did not taste fresh. The "Tuna Plate" for $26 was just canned tuna sitting on a bed of lettuce with a side of lettuce "salad". Not at all impressed! One Quick Look behind the counter onto the kitchen, all young kids behind the line with no head chef or anyone overlooking the kitchen. Overall, It's a nice spot if you're looking for the touristy Maine views & cocktails experience, but if you're after something more memorable or refined, there are far better options nearby. When I didn't really know any better, the lobster roll was fine. Seemed a bit skimpy on the lobster and a bit bland tasting. A bag of chips as the side seemed the cheap and easy way out. A day later I had a lobster roll at the Boston Logan Airport Marriott Courtyard bistro. For the same ($34) price it was LOADED with lobster and the light aioli dressing along with a side of clarified butter gave it more taste. The fries and pickle was appreciated. Between the two... Marriott Courtyard bistro wins by a long shot! Barnacle Billy's did score on ambiance / view. I suppose that cuts into the quality allowed. Service was counter service / self serve. The "bussers" were obviously trained to move people thru quickly as they were all over any empty item, straw paper, napkin or tray. Casual dining that is great for families. We have never been to Ogunquit. We didn't realize there are not a ton of family friendly restaurants. Where do we eat with our 21 month old? I'm glad we found barnacle Billy's. Open seating. First come first serve. You order at the counter then sit down and wait for your number to be called. If you want drinks a server does come over and open a tab at the bar for you. Food was fresh and hot. Lots of fast casual options for the whole family. From burgers and hot dogs, to lobster rolls and chicken dinners. And best of all, they offer ice cream as well. This is definitely not a fancy place at all. I'm shocked this place doesn't have better reviews. The lobster roll was absolutely delicious! You could tell the lobster meat was super fresh and had just the right flavor. My only complaint is I wish it came with fries instead of chips. I liked the chill vibes at Barnacle Billy's, but you could also go to the restaurant next door if you wanted the sit down experience. I'm not sure why they don't have their own listing as it is a couple doors down, but apparently they consider themselves one place. Start with their famous Rum Punch and you won't be disappointed. Have been coming to Barnacle Billy's for years and it holds up. The clam chowder is a must - one of the few places that still makes it themselves instead of selling the bland version from Sysco. You can see the butter on top of the soup and taste the seafood. There is a counter inside the main entrance that is best if you want to sit inside or on the porch looking at Perkins Cover. There is another counter that is better for to go or if you want to sit on the patio on the east side. I recommend that you go in and find a seat first to get a good table, then have someone go up to the counter to order. If you wait in line to order you may miss out on a great seat, especially if you want one overlooking the cove. Be aware there are several brick stairs down into the main dining area, so go carefully if your mobility is impaired. Classic ambiance with basic furniture and Maine themed decor. Bathrooms are small and right across from the main ordering counter. As they make money on cocktails, and the cocktail waitresses make tips from it as well, there is a constant stream of being asked if you want a drink. the table next to ours got asked if they wanted refills of theirs every 5 minutes, which is understandable. Water is available inside near the bar ordering window. If you ask nicely one of the waitresses will give you a lemon or lime slice if you want to add it to your water. Lobster roll, corn and clam chowder were all great and even though it was busy we didn't have to wait too long, plus we got our non-alcoholic drinks when we ordered. Ok we are here with Mom with probably her last visit to Maine. We always came here on family vacations and this was one of our "go to" spots. So glad we came. Got the lobster rolls. I got the cold and sisters got it hot. 5 stars all the way. Mom got the fish and chips. Haddock nice portion and fish so white and flaky. I tasted a piece and again 5 stars all the way. Sweet potato fries so good. Nice seasoning and crunchy on the outside and juicy in the middle. Lastly our servicer, Charity, was so kind and efficient. An ICONIC place to visit while in Ogunquit Maine! Note that they have 2 locations of barnacle Billy. One as the OG and the other one is ECT. I'd describe the OG one as a quick order and go. You order at the counter and find an outdoor seat right here view of the pier. They offer more easy to eat meals like sandwiches...VS this one which is an actually sit down place and they have a wider selection of menus items including their fried seafood section. Same restaurant but slight difference. Locations and views are great. Service was attentive. They have a lot of seafood items most known for their lobster, lobster rolls, and fried clams. Prices are on the higher point but that what you get for wanting seafood. Make sure ask for extra tartar sauce packets. They do accept Apple Pay and restroom is located inside and upstairs. There are two Barnacle Billy's, the regular one and then etc. They are right next to each other so those os the review of the etc. one. I liked that they had a veggie burger option here. The best part about this restaurant isn't the food though, it's the view. Dining inside you can see the water but the best seating (which was full when we went) is in the outside garden. Eve if you aren't lucky to Dine in the garden, you can walk around ir. It also overlooks the boats and the water..very picturesque. I.got theor signature rum punch, which was strong for me but I'm a lightweight. My mom got the lobster roll. Funny being it is an old school lobster shack. We all had lobster rolls. They were very good and fresh. The view of Perkins cove and the boats is really nice. The staff were all very friendly, attentive, professional. There is a tone of seating. Parking is super easy as for Barnacle Billy's customers can get free valet parking. Look for the sign across the street. The valet staff were also friendly, courteous and speedy. Not with your car but speedy service in retrieving your vehicle. Great waterside place to have a lobster roll or a steamed lobster. We did the whole steamed lobster for our last night in Maine. We have had many others while on our trip and this one didn't disappoint. Friendly service and beautiful surroundings. The steamed lobster comes with two sides and the claws have been pre-cracked to give you an jump on getting to the meat. Simply served with your sides - plastic bib, cracker, mini fork for the tight places. This is not a fancy restaurant. 0 STARS I've never had such an unprofessional and downright insulting experience at a restaurant. My friends and I had our REAL IDs confiscated because the staff "flagged" them as fake. Instead of handling the situation with even a shred of courtesy, our waitress refused to acknowledge us--wouldn't take an order, wouldn't even make eye contact--while we sat there waiting for the police to arrive. When the officer showed up (and was actually kind and professional), he immediately confirmed our IDs were real and mentioned this restaurant pulls this stunt all the time--most of the IDs they call in are completely legitimate. In other words, this place routinely wastes police time and humiliates paying customers for no reason. Here's an idea: buy a proper ID scanner instead of treating guests like criminals. Even if the staff truly believed our IDs were fake, the way they handled it was inexcusable--rude, dismissive, and downright hostile. A restaurant should never alienate or embarrass its guests like this. Save yourself the frustration and go literally anywhere else. read more

Good location with beautiful views. The main (no pun intended) issue with Ogunquit is finding parking because lots fill up during peak visit season. But if you come to get lunch, you can park. Tried the lobster mac and ordered an appetizer sized fried clam basket. Portion was large for an appetizer for the seafood basket so it was a good choice. Lobster mac was heavy and had good texture with the panko topping but was lacking salt and was not super generous on the lobster. The dish was okay. Both dishes were able to feed two well and the prices were fair for the seafood baskets. Staff was nice and the parking is valet/tip-based. We were able to enter the lot as part of the restaurant and were then able to explore the Marginal way and take our time without worrying about returning to metered parking. read more
