The scenery of the Ogunquit Cove as the backdrop is unparalleled. The cove is surreal with calm waters and many sail boats. A flock of ducks, large and small, swim around the cove without a care. The fried sea food is on point and fresh. The steamers had a real sweetness that can only come with fresh seafood. The lobster roll is also sweet and tasty in a lightly buttered and perfectly grilled bun. The fried scallop roll was also light and fresh. The giant fish sandwich was the value play. The huge piece of haddock was twice the size is the brioche roll. The baked haddock was covered in dill and ritz crackers. Don't sleep on their original rum punch. It's very tasty and packs a ... punch. Our server, Kareem was attentive and kind. Glad we came here for lunch. A great place to rest up and fuel up before going on the marginal way walk. read more

We drove here and were greeted with complimentary valet parking. It's worth noting that when parking there, parking is free for guests who are just dining in the restaurant and then I'm leaving immediately afterwards. We requested a table with a view and were allowed to hang around the bar area while we waited. The wait was only about 10 minutes and the table we were given had a wonderful view of the harbor. Our waiter was at our table to take our drink order almost immediately and promptly took our food order when he arrived with our drinks. Our food came out fast and was all hot, clearly nothing had been sitting under a heat lamp at window and was brought right to our table as soon as it was ready. Pickle chips - first it's worth noting that these are not made with dill pickles, they're the sweet "bread and butter" pickles. It's not my personal preference, but some may prefer that. Either way, it probably should be mentioned on the menu. The fried pickles themselves have a perfect thickness of breading on them, which does seem to have some seasoning in it. Every one of them was crispy and the breading wasn't peeling off like it does at many other places. The dip they came with tasted like it might have been a blend of thousand island and horseradish. Fish and chips - both the fish and the fries were very fresh. The fries were definitely freshly cut and not frozen. The fish had just the right amount of perfectly crispy breading on it. Neither the fries nor the fish were soggy. The only feedback I'd have here for improvement is for the sauces. If you're going to go through the effort to use fresh fries and fish, then why use store-bought tartar sauce? I'd love to see them start making some fresh tartar and maybe even some homemade ketchup! Fried clams - My wife had the fried clams and one of her favorite reasons for coming to this restaurant is that the menu states that they don't use any hydrogenated oils in their food. She also really enjoyed her clams and found them to be crispy and flavorful. read more

It was so relaxing to order a drink at Barnacle Billy's and look out at the boats coming to and from the ocean. We chose to eat here because of the huge patio, with lots of shade, that overlooks the water. The location is unbeatable, and we did not have to wait for a table on a busy summer day. Our service was also incredibly friendly, from the young men behind the ordering counter, to the waitor who served us our drinks table side. The only reason I am giving this three stars is because the food was just average. We ordered a chowder, a lobster roll, grilled cheese, and a hot dog. The grilled cheese and hotdog were good, but the lobster roll and chowder were just okay for the price. The chowder was a bit watery and not as rich as some of the others that I have had. The lobster roll was a little small and needed to be jazzed up with some more mayo or lettuce. Overall I had a really nice lunch here and would definitely return just for the location and service. read more

Such a quaint lunch or dinner spot. Service was very good. Parking was conveniently located across the street and once we finished our lunch, we walked Perkins Cove. The lobster was perfectly cooked and served with crisp fries! The rum punch was a nice touch! read more

We stopped at Barnacle Billy's in Perkins Cove, Maine, and had a great experience. I ordered whole belly clams with a baked potato and coleslaw, and my daughter had a grilled chicken salad -both portions were generous and well worth the price. Service was excellent! Our server, Sydney was very friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed. Our food came out quickly and tasted great. The restaurant has plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors. After a long day at the beach, we chose to sit inside and enjoy the AC, which was comfortable and relaxing. Overall, a great stop by the footbridge and we would definitely return. read more

Excellent food and service!! The best fries!!! Great red lagers!! By the water. We loved this place!!!

We came here on a weekend day and were surprised at how busy it was inside. There were a lot of people and parking was difficult but luckily this place has its own lot with a valet staffer who makes money from tips. Comparable parking on a busy day here is $25-30 in various nearby lots, so if you're eating here it makes sense to park. We came as a group of 5 after hearing this place was a good place to get lobster rolls. The market price for one was $38. I think if we could go back we would ask if these lobster rolls were hot or cold, since the ones they serve are cold and not the hot and buttery ones. My partner said that the rolls were actually pretty bland and not worth the price. This place also only serves chips and not fries. I was surprised at the lack of vegetarian options. There were plain and basic salads, garlic bread, and corn. But there was nothing substantive with protein available, which is odd given the amount of vegetarians around these days. Overall, the food was just fine, but it is not what you would expect for food that is more on the expensive side. read more

Wife had a tuna salad sandwich which was ok. I got steamed clams. I needed an education on how to clean them. First remove the clam from the shell. Dip the clam with I guess they call it a foot. It's the membrane that holds the clam to the shell. After dipping in hot water you have to peel the outer skin away. Then dip the clam in butter and eat. Too much work for me and some were really sandy. I'm not into roughing it for my meal. But I'm sure some locals enjoy that. It's basically self service. You place your order and pick up the food on a tray. The dining area was nice. Two fireplaces and candles on the tables. I prefer more of a fine dining experience. Most likely wouldn't go back. Great local spot in Ogunquit. Service was excellent. This place sits right on the cove with a nice view. We started with their rum punch which was great. I had the lobster roll. Lobster was tender and nice. My wife got the crab roll. It was tasty and came with nice onion rings. My son got the fried chicken sandwich. It was huge and had a great crisp. A must try if you are ever in Perkins cove. read more

I really wanted to like this place because of its history and the view, but the food was very underwhelming . Baked potato was old and the haddock tasted like it came from a freezer case at the grocery store. Add the hassle of having to pay for valet parking and I would not recommend it. read more

This place "phones it in". Rum punch and an appy would be sufficient. Don't waste a good meal here when so many better options abound. I had a burger though that was surprisingly good! It's too expensive for what you get in general. read more

Views & cocktails... nothing more!!! Been coming to Barnacle Billy's for years. Has a great location with beautiful harbor views and classic New England charm, which definitely adds to the overall experience. The outdoor seating is perfect on a nice day, and the atmosphere is casual and relaxed--great for families or a quick bite after walking around Perkins Cove. That said, the food was extremely underwhelming and lackluster for the price & lacked any sort of quality or finesse. The lobster was fresh, but lacked seasoning & was hardly any of it on the roll. For $32 I was expecting a whole lot more from the coveted ME Lobster. The Clam Chowder was runny & had no creamy texture to it & did not taste fresh. The "Tuna Plate" for $26 was just canned tuna sitting on a bed of lettuce with a side of lettuce "salad". Not at all impressed! One Quick Look behind the counter onto the kitchen, all young kids behind the line with no head chef or anyone overlooking the kitchen. Overall, It's a nice spot if you're looking for the touristy Maine views & cocktails experience, but if you're after something more memorable or refined, there are far better options nearby. Worth a visit for the view and a cold drink, but temper your expectations on the food so you're not disappointed. read more

Our travels took us past Ongunquit and we decided to detour into town for a quick lunch. We ended up at Barnacle Billy's out of pure conscience-- they have free valet parking if you dine there ($20 if you don't), and parking was chaos so we parked and went in. The season just started and you could tell by the service. Our waiter seemed nice and forgetful. I had the lobster roll- it was good, not great. They sprinkled paprika on it? I got butter on the side? I honestly don't know. My husband got the fish and chips-- the fish was plentiful but oily. We had to ask for basics-- first napkins. Then we had to wave the waiter down for tartar sauce and ketchup. Finally, when my husband's 12 ounce drink was empty-- we asked for a refill, which took over 10 mins. The food is ok, the service needs improvement, the views are the reason you go. read more

This was our first stop for seafood in Maine, and overall it was a great experience. One thing to note--there's all-day parking across the street for $30, but valet is actually free if you dine there (something we wish we knew ahead of time!). We were seated right away, though the food did take a little while to come out. We ordered steamers and two lobsters, and both were excellent. The steamers were huge, fresh, and easily some of the best we had during our trip. The lobsters were a great size and tasted incredibly fresh as well. We also tried the Barnacle Billy's rum punch, which was refreshing and a perfect addition to the meal. The outdoor patio was a highlight--private, scenic, and shaded by trees, which helped keep the seagulls away. A really nice spot to sit back and enjoy a classic Maine seafood meal. read more

Average food, a forgettable lobster roll, bland potato dominant clam chowder and aloof service. It feels geared toward the captive Perkins Cove crowd and visitors checking a famous restaurant off their list more than delivering a standout meal. Decent but overpriced for sure with footbridge being 100' away. Nothing special other than outdoor seating by the water

When I didn't really know any better, the lobster roll was fine. Seemed a bit skimpy on the lobster and a bit bland tasting. A bag of chips as the side seemed the cheap and easy way out. A day later I had a lobster roll at the Boston Logan Airport Marriott Courtyard bistro. For the same ($34) price it was LOADED with lobster and the light aioli dressing along with a side of clarified butter gave it more taste. The fries and pickle was appreciated. Between the two... Marriott Courtyard bistro wins by a long shot! Barnacle Billy's did score on ambiance / view. I suppose that cuts into the quality allowed. Service was counter service / self serve. The "bussers" were obviously trained to move people thru quickly as they were all over any empty item, straw paper, napkin or tray. But when it's not that busy is there really a need to rush people out? The expected experience in a tourist town. read more

Barnacle Billys has both a full service restaurant and a take out window. We chose indoor, full service and had a magnificent view of the cove. Really special. The menu offered all the seafood favorites - mostly fried. Unfortunatley, the presentation and taste of the Lobster Saute ($59), Clam Chowder ($11) and Bacon Wrapped Scallops ($29) was flavorless and underwhelming. If the food isnt fried, it is drenched in butter. No finess or creativity. Next visit I will plan to sit on the outdoor patio for cocktails and a salad to enjoy the marvelous views! read more

Casual dining that is great for families. We have never been to Ogunquit. We didn't realize there are not a ton of family friendly restaurants. Where do we eat with our 21 month old? I'm glad we found barnacle Billy's. Open seating. First come first serve. You order at the counter then sit down and wait for your number to be called. If you want drinks a server does come over and open a tab at the bar for you. Food was fresh and hot. Lots of fast casual options for the whole family. From burgers and hot dogs, to lobster rolls and chicken dinners. And best of all, they offer ice cream as well. This is definitely not a fancy place at all. We really enjoyed the food and drink here. I started off with a fantastic rum punch, which was strong and delicious. I then moved on to the fried clam roll, which was enormous. I'm shocked this place doesn't have better reviews. The lobster roll was absolutely delicious! You could tell the lobster meat was super fresh and had just the right flavor. Avoid...this is the epitome of the term "Tourist Trap". Unless you enjoy paying top dollar for cold mediocre small portions you should stay away. If it wasn't for the scenery, Billy's would have faded away a long time ago. I was quickly reminded why I haven't been to Billy's in years. Want that baked stuffed lobster you've waited for all year?..be prepared to shell out an atmospheric price of $65. I can understand paying a little more for the view, but come-on a cup of chowder for $18? The price, quality & size of their offerings are disappointing. Service was excellent. We were happy to find a parking spot. Food was good. Very pretty location.

Heard from a friend to go there, I'm not gonna mince words here, beer was cold and good, the wait for it was terrible, waitresses were looking right through us, and only 4 other people in an empty bar!!! Way too long of a weight for acknowledgment, like I said, the beer was called, and selection was good. Onto the food, way overrated, price I paid for a lobster roll, was not even close to what I could get at the two other places in town by the drawbridge, overall, there's more to a restaurant than food, beer, and prices, and service is a big one for me since I used to be in the industry. This place gets a bad rating due to the lack of service. read more
