"And there's a girl in this harbor town And she works layin' whiskey down They say, "Brandy, fetch another round" She serves them whiskey and wine" (Looking Glass) When our convention committee of thirteen traveled to Wells, Maine for a mini vacation to celebrate a job well done last year, we had to come up with a place to have a memorable group dinner. We sure hit a home run when we decided to book a reservation at Hobbs Harborside. The restaurant is huge and beautiful, with a big bar, plenty of tables, and a big outdoor deck overlooking the water. We enjoyed a few drinks out on the deck before we were called. Our server for the evening was Shelby H. and if there is a finer server in the state of Maine, I'd be stunned. She was everything we could possibly have asked for -sweet, friendly, funny, conversational, cheerful, helpful, efficient, professional- she checked all the boxes. I started off with one of their pillowy soft complimentary dinner rolls, a glass of Zardetto Prosecco ($11), and then turned my attention to the many appetizers our table ordered to share. I sampled some of the Bacon Wrapped Scallops ($19.99) and Baby Lobster Cakes ($19.99) -both of which were excellent. For my main, I went with a Seafood Sampler ($31.99) - a "combination of fresh haddock, sea scallops and stuffed shrimp broiled with a topping of buttering crumbs". This was a wonderful dish! The scallops were sweet and tender, the fish was flaky and perfectly cooked, and the shrimp was delicious. The entrée came with a choice of 2 sides, so I went with a double order of Brussels Sprouts which were amazing. Thank you Hobbs Harborside and Shelby H for one of our best restaurant experiences of the year.

Beautiful location on the water. I enjoyed the steamers and had a great 1.5 pound lobster. This place has a great craft beer selection. Would unreservedly return here.

    Fried BIG BELLY Clams

We spent 3 days in Oqunguit and was looking for a good seafood restaurant. We wanted Big Belly Clams on this April night last week 4/20, and decided to go to HOBBS, and we were not disappointed, one of the best clam dishes we ever had. Food, drinks & dessert were great , the staff and our waiter Joe was terrific! Can't say enough about our experience Will go back whenever we are close by!!

    What a view!

What a delightful place. We came upon this gem of a place while searching for dinner on the water. The cocktails were luscious and the seafood divine. They even have Adirondack chairs to sit in after dining and gaze out at the water! Just go!! You'll not regret it

No idea on the food, service or ambiance. I called the restaurant asked if they allowed dogs, yes we do but we don't take reservations no problem we left early after an hour drive we were dogs aren't allowed, terrific a busy Saturday in Maine which is why I called ahead and asked? There was no way we were getting in anywhere else, extremely disappointed in Hobbs and they way they handled this, worse part is that the food is subpar, the clam chowder is very sandy and butter just floats on top , and the service they rave about, I've never seen it, always have to ask for everything from bread to silverware to drinks. A big no for me and my family here on out.

My husband and I had a large meal for brunch. Later in the afternoon we decided we needed a "snack". Hobbs Harborside had been recommended by a few people so we went there. We were told how fabulous the menu was and how special everything is. We really just wanted fried clams! To get them, we ended up ordering an entree that included fried clams, fries, and coleslaw and we shared it. Everything was very average - including the menu. It may as well have been a Red Lobster. The clams were cooked well and our server, Jessica, was friendly, and our view was nice. Our table looked over the water on a sunny fall day - it was pretty. We just really didn't think there was anything special, but it wasn't bad either.

    Swordfish

We arrived at 4:30, the place was already very busy. We put our name in for a table and went outside and enjoyed the live music, and a few cocktails. We got seated at a dinner table about 5:15pm. We ordered the scallops wrapped in bacon, which are listed as gluten-free, later to find out that they fry them in the same fryer as all the other seafood with breadcrumb, so they are not gluten-free. My swordfish was excellent as was my wife's salmon. Both delicious. There was six of us in total and the server did a very good job.

I'd been coming here for at least 20 years, and in recent years it had been a favorite spot to eat outside when traveling with my dog. But now, we are not allowed to eat outside with a dog. Instead we had to order to-go and then walk down back to a 'dog area' which is a spot to the left of the building, below the parking area with one picnic table and some chairs in the woods. It was a beautiful sunny day, but we were getting eaten alive by no-seeums, which is not a nice experience when paying $100 for 1 meal with 6 scallops, 4 small pieces of fried fish, fries and slaw, an order of onion rings, a small clam chowder, and 2 beers. And $50 for a small lobster, an ear of corn, and an iced tea. I get that this is a tourist area, but $12 for a beer in a plastic cup and a $7.50 up charge for 6 scallops while being banished to a buggy spot that made eating very uncomfortable is a big no thank you for me. Crossing this place off my list, sadly. The upgrades and changes to this place are not a bonus at all. I'm sad that a place I always felt was friendly and welcoming is now overpriced and we all felt like we were being treated as second class citizens.

My Mom ordered a cup of chowder, thank goodness she didn't order the bowl because she said it was absolutely awful. To be fair, their menu does explain how theirs is different from typical chowder. My Mom said it was really watery and had no flavor. Luckily she also ordered some shrimp, whichi took a while to come out but were great. I ordered the chicken breast plain sandwich with no tomatoes, fried, and a side Caesar salad with blue cheese dressing. They brought it out with the tomato, good thing I am not allergic to tomatoes. The sandwich was great, tons of chicken and it wasn't too dry. I learned about "buckie" rolls and that they are soft and break easily. I ended up eating my chicken with a fork!! I needed more dressing and the server didn't bring in a timely fashion, the lettuce being wilted by the time she brought it. The pickle on the plate was good, but the fries were just OK. We were able to get a window seat in the bar, which made for a nice start to our Maine vacation. I would come here again, and would probably order the same thing. My mom, however, would probably not!!

We went on $1 oyster day, and they were fresh and delicious. Service was a little slow but it looked like there was some new staff training. The restaurant sits on the edge of the salt marsh so some nice dining views. All in all a nice spot for our lunch.

I wanted to like this place, but unfortunately our experience was really disappointing…read more I ordered the scallop basket with fries, which costs about $15 more than the shrimp basket, but when I got home and unpacked the takeout, I discovered they had given me the shrimp instead. To make matters worse, the shrimp were some of the smallest I've ever seen--I've honestly bought larger frozen shrimp at Aldi. I called hoping they would simply refund the price difference since the mistake was theirs. Instead, I was told they couldn't do that over the phone. Their solution was for me to pack up my dinner, walk 10 minutes back through a busy beach town, wait for them to remake the order, and then walk home again. By that point, dinner was delayed by nearly an hour because of their error. While I waited, they offered us free ice cream. I appreciate the gesture, but we hadn't even eaten dinner yet, so it completely missed the point. A refund of the price difference or another reasonable solution would have been much more appropriate. Mistakes happen, and I understand that. What disappointed me most was how the situation was handled. Customers shouldn't have to spend additional time and effort fixing a restaurant's mistake, especially after paying extra for a premium item.
