What a cool family spot for some good food. We went with no reservation for a party of 8 and got seated right away. Our server was very attentive and had great menu knowledge. huge menu selection with lots to choose from. She even made some great menu suggestions. I had the salmon, it was very tasty and cooked perfectly. The maple mustard was a good pairing, a little on the sweet side but i liked it! It also came with 2 sides so very filling. After reading numerous reviews, I had really high expectation for this place. We arrived about an hour after open and we're seated immediately. First, we ordered the mussels. They weren't bad but nothing great. For our meals, my husband and I both ordered the ribeye. The steaks were cooked perfectly and had a nice char but there wasn't much seasoning/ flavor. Had a lovely visit with friends on Saturday Evening here, the wait was about 1 hour for our party of 5 to be seated, no reservations taken. They had picnic benches with some life-sized games covered in shade for parties waiting to be seated. They also have a bar inside that you can purchase drinks from while you are waiting. Our server Ben was very attentive and friendly. A bunch of us ordered the 7oz Petite Filet Mignon which came with two sides. I got a side salad and rice pilaf. My steak which I ordered to be medium rare was cooked more on the medium side but the meat was still very tender and flavorful. The building is historic and quite big, with several floors for seating, we were seated at the top floor which you can catch a glimpse of the water from there. I was so impressed with this place! The only thing that is touch is they don't take reservations so you have to go put your name in but they have lots of spots to sit while you wait for your table. We went around 7pm on a Saturday in the winter and we only had to wait around 25mins. We got seated and our server was great! She was quick and friendly. We got an app and it came out really fast. We came here for a work function and the service, the menu and the decor were all pretty top notch. The wife and I both loved what we had to eat as it is sometimes tough going into a steakhouse as a vegan/vegetarian but the waiter and the staff accommodated very well and made our day even though we had about 15 people in the party so as a server, that can be difficult. The only drawback is the lines to wait to get in. I know we were a larger party but there were a TON of people waiting in the waiting area but also had the ability to hit the bar and have a cocktail while waiting which makes it less lengthy. We will definitely be back to this establishment next time just the two of us to get the "date" experience. read more

After a 5 year break we went back to see if the Steak House got better...and lo and behold it was nuch better than before. Our server Natasha got to work right away taking our our and within 10 minutes our soups arrived...(Before it took alot longer) We ordered steak which they are famous for and once again the main entree came out in record time. The only thing that could have made it better was if it wasnt pouring and we could have tailgated in the parking lot while we waited!they are a well oiled machine here with lots of areas to sit while you wait to be seated. Update. The manager, Spenser, responded to my post this morning. luckily, his post shows more about who he is than my words, or the many poor reviews about him below, ever would. Spenser has mistaken me for the patron with who he had an altercation last evening. I was merely an eye witness to how he treated the man last night. I feel bad I didn't say something last night, so wanted to post something today on what I had witnessed. I was then going to just move on, but Spenser's aggressive, libelous response, full of lies and horrifically nasty and way too personal comments about a patron and his family, makes me angry. No one should be treated to such vitriol when they simply wanted to return a poor meal. And having been an eyewitness to how the whole thing unfolded, it's insane the lies Spenser felt a need to reply w. I don't understand!!! Most lucky of all, though, I actually videod the entire altercation, from just after the manager, Spenser, went to the customer's table to discuss the poor meal then making the man leave his table to discuss the meal privately! I imagined Spenser did that so he could mistreat the customer without witnesses (so he thought), but Spenser went way too far. The video does capture the patron at the end of the video swearing at Spenser, and that was the only truth of Spenser's response. The video captures everything Spenser said and did to the man before that point! All of which Spenser lied about w great and severe storytelling, I imagine to buffer his defense of his abhorrent and scarily aggressive behavior. I plan send the video to Spenser's family, who seem to run the restaurant w him, maybe then they'll realize and own what an unbalanced liability he is. And also to the police, because the way Spenser talked about and watched the patrons young children was threatening. Bullies should not be allowed to get away w their behaviors. I'm just lucky I have the evidence to refute Spenser's lies and dramatic nonsense. You run a lowsy, dirty restaunt, Spenser. Get a grip on your fake "power" and stop mistreating so many customers!!!! And at least when you do, own up to your disgraceful behavior and don't invent lies to make it "better". Someone is always watching, and tonight, your gross treatment of others was exposed. This place is top notch in my book. After a very minimal wait, we were cheerfully seated. We both ordered Surf & Turf - steak and lobster tail and steak and scampi shrimp. You don't have to do anything crazy with steak, keep it simple and let the cut of meat shine! I was very disappointed with my recent visit to The Steakhouse in Wells. The fact that they do not take reservations creates ridiculously long lines, which is a major turnoff. Many of their guests are older and are forced to stand outside for extended periods just to get in. Once seated, the service was no better. Our server, Ben, was unfamiliar with basic ingredients in several dishes and had to leave the table to ask someone else each time we had a question. That lack of knowledge is unacceptable in a restaurant of this type. On top of that, we had to wait more than once just to get refills, to-go boxes, and a bag, things that should be simple and prompt. Overall, the poor organization, lack of staff training, and long, inconvenient wait times left us very underwhelmed. Definitely not worth the hype. read more

This past summer was our second visit to The Steakhouse. Crazy wait times, but solid food. I started with the French onion soup, which was flavorful and filling. I had the ribeye with the "house potato" and mixed veggies. I wasn't really a fan of the house potato. I can't really explain it. Sort of like a twice baked potato, but pretty bland. Veggies were nice and steaks were cooked to our liking. Wait time for food was also pretty long, but the place was packed and I give the servers alot of credit as there is a whole second floor of seating that they need to carry the food up to. If I could give 10 stars I would literally give 10 stars. There will be a line, especially if you're trying to go right on time to avoid the crowd, you're going to run into a crowd. However, once you get in it goes pretty quickly and they sit you down very quickly once you wait. While you are outside, there are games like connect four and cornhole for your kids. Our service was absolutely outstanding and I made sure to tell her that. She knew it was our first time and she was very friendly. She gave us all her recommendations and she was super nice to my kids. She knew every answer to every question. The place is absolutely gorgeous and makes you feel like You are at a barn wedding which I love. It's nice lighting and the whole place is just gorgeous and runs like a really well oil machine. Going to the food. I think I ate so much food. I got the fried mushrooms and they were delicious. Perfectly crisp and good inside. I also had virgin mudslides which was my favorite. I love their mocktail options. More places should have that. My son got chicken fingers and fries which were delicious. I got the teriyaki steak. It was a little overdone. That was the only complaint I had because it was a little char on the outside however it was still very delicious. My mom had the country steak and she thought it was delicious with the gravy. I got the baked potato which was very good too. My mom loved her french onion soup and said it was perfect. For our last dinner during our Ogunquit vacation, we went to The Steakhouse after hearing it was one of the top 10 steakhouses in New England and number 1 in Maine. We waited about an hour to be seated, but once we got to the table, the food came out quickly and our server took great care of us. I was really craving cheese for an appetizer, so I had the mozzarella sticks, and the marinara sauce was pretty basic, but I wouldn't expect that to be the speciality of a steakhouse. My husband enjoyed his French onion soup and the A5 Wagyu Ribeye special, and since I had already done a steak dinner earlier on the vacation, I opted for the unique chicken scampi. Everything was tasty, including our house salads and rolls. I would definitely be curious to come back and try a steak dinner myself, but I can see why it's such a busy place! We got seated and the waitress was super nice and made the experience a lot better . I started off with a cup of lobster soup. It had a lot of lobster in it but the broth was literally the butter you would dip it in with some cream. One person got the lobster pie and it just tasted bad. On Saturday Sept 27 my wife stopped in for dinner. My steak was tough and barely able to chew it. When our server finally showed back at our table to see how we were doing 20 minutes after delivering our dinners. I told her about my dissatisfaction with the steak. The Steakhouse is our favorite restaurant in Wells. Their speciality is steak of course, yet they also serve exceptional seafood, chicken and ribs, too. My husband had the steak tips with stuffed shrimp and I dined on the steak tips with a stuffed lobster tail. Our steaks were prepared as requested and the Gorgonzola butter that accompanied the steak was melt in your mouth good. The shrimp and lobster tail were perfectly prepared and complimented our steaks beautifully. There are several side offerings to choose from. My husband and I both ordered a tossed salad and the cottage cheese with a pear half. They are generous with their side portions and are made with high quality ingredients. Best steak I've ever had that wasn't $75+ Always go surf and turf. Baked stuff shrimp was also unexpectedly good. BBQ beans side are loaded with meat and delicious. Apple sauce is straight up apple pie filling. Picking only 2 sides is IMPOSSIBLE. Even the duck, you can't go wrong (except maybe the spaghetti and meat sauce...) Best of all? Service was good. Food was great. We don't usually have dessert but since we were celebrating our anniversary, we decided to splurge. Our waitress even put a candle in my peanut butter pie for our anniversary. The steak was cooked perfect, my husband said it was the best chopped steak he's ever had, and my asparagus was probably the best I've ever had. Believe the hype, if you like steak, this place is a must! There is always a wait, but it's for good reason. Tonight we arrived around 5:30 and had a half hour wait.
