Blueberry pie with blueberry chip ice cream!
    Morgan K.

Amazing diner experience. Was visiting from California and stopped by since it was featured on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. It has your classic old school dinner feel, with the friendliest staff, and stellar food. We had to try so many things as they are famous for multiple items - loved the seafood chowder, lobster pie, blueberry pie, and blueberry chip ice cream. Linda, our server, was also the sweetest and shared more about the food and the area. Definitely a must try spot and will be on my list next time I'm in the area!

Came here on a Monday morning and had a great experience! If you are looking for a little diner this is a great option! The menu has a variety of breakfast and lunch options. Our waiter was so friendly and we were able to be seated immediately. Parking was also very easy. I was feeling more lunch so I ordered a cup of She-crab soup and a side of homemade codfish cake. Guy fieri has been here and he fried the codfish cake so I had to too!! I loved both of these! I thought they were great. I also thought the prices were very fair for ~$8 for soup and ~$6 for codfish cake. I would definitely come back here especially for a classic diner feel!

14 years after I tried the lobster pie for the first time, and several visits since then including today... And the lobster pie is still the greatest thing I've ever eaten in my lifetime! Winner and still champion!

    Fresh Baked or Fried Haddock

The famous diner featured on triple D! Went in with high expectations and it didn't 100% deliver. Though don't get me wrong, great food. Ordered the lobster pie, baked haddock, seafood chowder and stuffed mushrooms. Mushrooms- overflowing with stuffing. Serving came with like 6 and weighed probably 2lbs. Stuffing was yummy but couldn't really tell that it had crab in it. Very yummy though Seafood chowder - looked like a cup of milk with a ton of seafood. Flavor didn't exactly make me think "famous" but plenty of seafood and pretty tasty Lobster pie - dang small pie for about $40, but breading was packed with flavor. Bunch of pieces of claw. Though you charging me for more than a whole lobster but only giving a couple of claws? Little disappointed but had to try it because it's a famous dish and the breading really delivered on the flavor Baked haddock - also fairly pricey for a small portion of fish. Needed tad more seasoning I think, but grateful for a haddock that's not fried Coleslaw - they delivered! Need to teach other places to make it Food was a bit delayed, no harm there. Very busy location. Staff very friendly as expected. Yes do try this and give your take. Inside looks classic and just plain awesome. It's an experience

Great seafood chowder. Lobster roll is good. Have to stop here every time we are in the area.

Came here for lunch around 1230pm. Just at the peak of service. Waited a few minutes for a table but were contacted quickly by the server. Drinks came stock as did the chowders. Got the seafood chowder and the clam chowder. Clam chowder was very thick, a little thicker than I am used to. Saw later on while eating the server scooping chowder from the pot behind the register and you could tell it was thick and also running low as she dipped the Kassel in pretty far to scoop some chowder. Seafood chowder was good. Ordered a cheeseburger and thought it came with lettuce and tomatoes but I was wrong. Just came plain with cheese. Tasted good but I wound up using one of the tomatoes on a chicken sandwich that came with two tomatoes. Noise was a little loud but that was expected as the dinner was packed.

Welcome to the Maine Diner, a staple in Wells, Maine serving quality food at reasonable prices! You can also get breakfast anytime!! I've been visiting this spot since I was a kid and have fond memories. I remember waiting an hour for a table some mornings due to its popularity (luckily this morning there was no wait). This time around I ordered one of their combo plates, the Aces High. It came with everything I was craving, one egg, one strip of bacon, one sausage, toast, AND a blueberry pancake. Everything was delicious, but the star of the show was definitely the pancake, so fricken good. The interior is cool as it has that old school charm and photos of celebrities that I think have visited the diner. Our waitress was very sweet as well and food came out quick. Visit the Maine Diner!!!! Ps. They also have a cute gift shop next door. I got some goodies to bring home for my boyfriend!

What can I say about the Maine Diner. It's the best diner in the town, even the whole state of Maine! Whether you go for breakfast or lunch, you will not be disappointed. Why? Because the food is good, it's like home cooked food away from home, price is very reasonable. The people working here are great! I have been coming here for many years because I visit the southern towns of Maine yearly. And my family was told to come here a long time ago and we have been coming ever since. Never disappointed. And they have a nice gift shop to come to and visit after. One thing to know. In the summer, it's get very crowded. There are long lines in the morning for breakfast, that I remember well. It's no surprise though. Their food is great, blueberry pancakes are amazing! If you have not been, well what are you waiting for? It's a must if you are in Wells.

Maine Diner, you never cease to amaze me! Lobster Benedict and "2s are Wild" are what I recommend, but everything on the menu is perfection!! Shop in the cutest gift shop while you wait and cross your fingers that Linda is your waitress. She. Is. The. Best.

2nd time here. Decided to give the place a 2nd chance. This time we did dinner instead of breakfast. Had hot open turkey with corn muffin and squash . Sausage Frank's and Mac N Cheese. . Food was ok

Super cute old school diner with deli pic breakfast. Can be a wait but when we came had no wait at all. Service was great and quick- always check in in for coffee refills. This place has all your staples- enjoyed classic breakfast options and there special of Maine blueberry pancakes. Enjoyed various delicious but had their blast sandwich was perfect. Recommend- a must!

Sorry, not a great review, but then again, not a great experience. We went with high hopes, as it is so highly touted. We got the special, roast beef, and found it to be dry and flavorless. The veggies that came with it were overcooked and lifeless. The bread was good. Service was non-existent. I don't know if they had a lot of call outs, but it took half an hour to get our check, and drinks were never refilled. When we inquired, we were met with a grunt. All in all, don't waste your time or your money. They don't care either way.

This place is worth the hype! There was a bit of a wait when my friend and I arrived, but since it was just the two of us, our table was ready pretty fast. The vibes were awesome, very old school diner vibes. So many great breakfast/brunch specials. The portions were very solid and the food was quality. If you're not in Maine often, you have to order the blueberry pancakes. Truly, you can't go wrong here!

No matter what, I will always have a soft spot for The Maine Diner. When I was a kid and my family would vacation in Maine every summer, we would always stop here to eat at least twice per trip. Their Meatloaf Madness Mondays is ingrained in my memory, and over the years they have become somewhat of a destination eatery. While its reputation as a family-owned establishment serving its own grown produce made it a local favorite, they have been featured in several publications as well as Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives which has increased their exposure on a national level. Despite its fame, the Diner is very no frills - it's not large at all, and almost has a boxcar setup with a rectangular dining room with the kitchen back center. They're most famous for their Lobster Pie and seafood chowder - and along with a selection of New England fare, they have staple diner selections and serve breakfast all day. So with all of this, why 3 stars? Well, it dates back to around 10 years ago during my first trip to Maine as an adult - I ate here and didn't have the best experience. I don't fully remember if it was me giving them the benefit of the doubt or my own nostalgia, but I gave them a 4. During my most recent trip to Maine, I came here again for lunch and overall just had an average experience. The diner looks tired - the carpets needed to be vacuumed and the booth we sat in was uncomfortable. Additionally, when we were seated my brother noticed sand and food on the seat - they really should have cleaned it off. The food was fine - I had a turkey club which was inoffensive - the sandwich was solid. My brother had the soup and half-sandwich, but I found it weird that the soup came out first along with my other brother's corn muffin, and then the half sandwich was served when all of our mains came. Service was good, food came out relatively fast and everyone was friendly. Overall though, I think I'm finished with Maine Diner. If I was staying in Wells or Kennebunk(port) then I would come here for breakfast, but I wouldn't go out of my way to return. This place is best staying in my childhood memories so I can preserve what nostalgia I have left for it.

Thank God I opted for adding bacon to the lobster roll bc it made it seem a tiny bit bigger but for 36$ I expected double the size and a side of fries. If you loved Village Tavern under the previous owners, you should know that the beloved restaurant you remember no longer exists. The name is the same. The esthetic is the same. Some menu items even have the same names. But the experience is not. During our visit, the calamari, salmon, duck, and haddock were all cooked properly, yet each dish was surprisingly bland and forgettable. Many longtime favorites, including the wide selection of side dishes like the broccoli with blue cheese, are gone. This isn't a bad restaurant on its own merits. The problem is that it's trading on the reputation of something that no longer exists. What I find most puzzling is that the new owners kept the Village Tavern name while abandoning so much of what made it successful. When a restaurant has earned decades of loyalty, you would expect new ownership to preserve its strengths. Instead, it feels like they discarded the very things that built its reputation. I left disappointed, but mostly sad. A restaurant I once considered one of the best in Southern Maine is now simply pedestrian and overly priced. Former fans should adjust their expectations accordingly or avoid the disappointment altogether.
