The food is always amazing here. Came for breakfast (glad that they reopened a couple of weeks ago from winter break). We both had the # 2 one with well done egg whites and the other with regular eggs. Wheat toast and marble rye along with crispy bacon and home fries. The meal was hot and tasty, though I did need to add more pepper for the bland home fries (simple fix). I also NEEDED to have one of their amazing lemon ricotta pancakes. It was topped with ricotta and the pancakes were very lemony but I don't think there was ricotta in them. I did not taste it. It came with a side of lemon glaze too.

We've driven by Mike's American Diner a few times, and finally gave it a go. My only regret? Not stopping by sooner. The portions here are massive, and the prices are super fair. It's rare to find breakfast spots these days that don't skimp on food, and we left brunch full and happy. We both went for the chicken and biscuits, added a side of eggs ($2.75 extra; not pictured), and it was even better than expected. Two big, juicy chicken breasts, one deliciously flaky biscuit (sliced in half), all blanketed in this unreal gravy -- easily a 10/10. I have no idea how I'm going to order anything else next time. We also shared their French toast muffin, which came grilled with a side of butter. It was just divine. Parking's easy too, with lots of spots out front and in the back. Service was friendly, and they kept our coffee and water topped up. If you're looking for a hearty breakfast under 30 minutes from Portland, this spot is a win.

Mike's American Diner is a hidden gem! I ordered the Reuben, but they swapped in fresh roasted turkey breast for the pastrami--and wow. The portion was huge and honestly the best Reuben I've ever had. I couldn't even finish it at the table and ended up bringing home a sandwich and a half. My husband went with the baked haddock dinner, which came with a light homemade lemon breadcrumb coating, mashed potatoes, zucchini, and a crisp side salad to start. He loved every bite. Our server, Deb, was excellent--friendly, attentive, and really made the whole meal even better. A couple things to note: they're only open for dinner on Friday and Saturday nights, and it's BYOB (bring your own beer or wine). We'll definitely be back. A++ meal and experience!

Super cute diner, we sat at the counter for a fast breakfast. Enjoyed a traditional 2 eggs over easy, wheat toast, home fries and bacon. Perfect meal to prepare for the busy day! Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. Such a great place.

our server was Deb. She was awesome and helped us locating places that we needed to go and served us a delicious chocolate shake. That was free for my birthday. our food was delicious !Thank you so much.!!

We were starving after a night out in Portland and luck brought us here. Huge portions, great service, good prices! My breakfast was delicious with tasty home fries and a grilled English. The fried chicken sandwich was yummy, love the fries. Great diner!!

We started the evening with cocktails which were very much to our liking, followed by a delicious appetizer of lobster risotto that we shared. We both ordered the short ribs which were mouthwatering and cooked to perfection that the meat fell off the bone. The servings were enough where we took the bones and whatever meat was left to make a delicious beef soup. Neither one of us were up for dessert but decided to get two to go, which we downed once we got home. And they were both delicious. In closing, I'd be remiss without saying a good word about our server Keila. She was warm, friendly, funny, and very attentive to our table. She made our night to enjoyable! Thanks you Keila ! We look forward to our next visit to The Village Inn soon.

Here's what doesn't seem to have changed: it's an attractive, slightly out-of-the-way dining spot that has a very nice bar, comfy seating on a patio and inside, good servers (thank you Heather!), and a menu with a lot of tasty choices. We continue to recommend it, although hesitantly. There have been some changes, in our opinion, that left us just a little disappointed, hence four stars not five. Blackened salmon: pretty good but not much blackened and just a little bit dry. Seafood poblano with clams and scallops: excellent, well seasoned. Calamari: Crunchy but much too chewy. Yummy spinach, a crab cake that tasted bland. Sourdough bread wasn't warm and left us wanting. Fine bar choices with local beers. The romaine salad was, well, unusual, with a blueberry vinaigrette that was awfully sweet for our taste and, frankly, kind of hard to cut. Final verdict? Not quite up to what we hoped for after our experience a dozen years ago. Maybe that's us; memory can be tricky. But we came away not quite as happy as the last time for sure and a little more cautious in recommending the restaurant. If you're curious, entree prices generally in the $30s, appetizers $12-20, cocktails around 12-15. We're giving the Tavern four stars, but 3.5 would be closer to our preference.

At one point, she put the phone on hold, and walked back to the kitchen. Rule #1 of hospitality: Always service the people who are literally in front of you, and took the time on a cold night to drive and to patronize you and your establishment. Put phone callers on hold. We were then seated in a back corner booth with no view of the restaurant. When a waitress appeared, I asked the price of the Lobster BLT listed in the menu section of their website. "Oh, we don't have that anymore." I asked why it remained on their website. I got a dirty look. She went on to tell my party that they actually had NO lobster in house. In Maine. My partner ordered a Reuben sandwich. He opened it up and we found about 1 tsp of sauerkraut inside. The breading on my fish sandwich was overdone and beyond crispy. But the most infuriating moment was ordering a cup of hot tea. Hot water and a tea bag, nothing more. Since the waitress had disappeared, I had to physically get up and ask for a hot water refill. The waitress I did find didn't want to help, instead pointing in another direction, saying "She's over there." I tracked her down; our waitress was talking with another employee. I asked for some more hot water to refill the cup with the same teabag. She brought it. When paying the bill, I found l'd been charged $6.50 for 2 cups of tea. Wow. One teabag and one refill of hot water. $6.50! The food was not great, the service horrendous, and the charges ridiculous. We'll be heading back to Federal Jacks soon. I doubt we're ever returning to this poorly run restaurant.

First of all, We don't drink alcohol and the bar was louder than the main dining room. With all the empty space she took us to an area where two other couples were at the tables next to us. No consideration regarding privacy and I don't care to hear other people's conversation at dinner. I carefully picked up our service ware and moved it to the empty table in the corner. It even seemed it might be a stretch for the server in the Bar to be able to walk 25' to our NEW location. The Food was very tasty. The bottled water was chlorinated, so we bought a liter. The 2 liter Gigantic green water bottles were attempting to take the place of center pieces, but you can't lift them (4.4Lbs) safely. I worked in a few HIGH Level Restaurants as the maitre D'. I always catered to the customer's needs. AS for Bandaloop; With improved customer service that does not take a "guarded attitude", it would be a more gracious place. I was not attacking anyone. I mentioned that a 2 liter bottle cannot be picked up and poured with ease. "It's a new thing changed by the manager."--------- It was not well thought out. Try to pour a 2 liter bottle of wine or water with one hand. We also had to use another napkin as a placemat. What is on those tables? Bee's Wax? Use some Dawn soap.

My husband got the three but I went with the four because I had heard some great things with the glazed carrots, I thought we could share them. Everything was wonderful but just too much food for me. I started with the tuna sashimi which was superb and my husband had the pork belly. I had the glazed carrots and they brought my husband glazed cauliflower on the house, loved both. My husband had the steak and I had the halibut and they both were delicious. My fish came with baby potatoes, I'm not a fan of those. He completely disregarded the other guest and only focused on my drink order, which felt disrespectful. After taking my order and walking awaynot once but twice, when he returned I had to ask, "Are you not going to take her drink order?" The tuna sashimi was great and the carrots were good as well. However, something about the halibut tasted off. I work with fish daily, and this personally was not it. I had one bite and could not continue eating it. The server boxed up the halibut for me, but then tossed a to-go container onto the table for us to box our own dessert, which felt inconsistent with the level of service. The bartender was wearing an H&H raincoat and appeared to be drinking on the job, while other female staff members were scrolling on their phones. Overall, not a great first impression. The ambiance itself was nice, but when you make an 8:30 PM reservation and receive a text at 7:30 PM saying your table is ready, it feels a bit off-putting. I had asked beforehand if anything earlier was available and was told no, so I intentionally booked later for an evening experience. Then upon arrival, the restaurant was fairly empty. Within the first few minutes of us being there, the kitchen doors were closed and cleaning was happening all around us. It created an unpleasant atmosphere for what was supposed to be a social evening out and a little hoorah celebration, and nothing was acknowledged by staff. It was clear that reservation notes or comments in chat of reservation were not reviewed. Overall, not thrilled with the experience. Been there, done that -- one visit was enough for me/us unless that 49-year-old male server Charlie learns how to properly serve guests and the kitchen team start to season the food a bit better. Would have been nice if Charlie checked in with us more like he did the other tables hence the eaves dropping to know more about him and the place. 4/10 experience, will not be back which is a bummer.

Upon arrival, we were initially seated in what felt more like a brightly lit, casual tavern or breakfast room, completely at odds with the refined dining experience we expected. Surrounded by families and very casual attire, it was confusing and frankly off-putting. After asking the host stand, we were eventually moved to the actual dining room, which was beautiful - dim, elegant, and exactly the ambiance we had hoped for. Service throughout the evening was polished and professional, and every dish was plated beautifully. Unfortunately, that's where the positives end. While we understand that tasting menus consist of smaller portions, each course, just two or three bites, was entirely forgettable. The flavors lacked balance and subtlety, which is surprising at this price point. The beef tartare in a cigar like wrapper was very mid. One of my early courses was a scallop dish, and the scallops were cooked so poorly they were the rubberiest I've ever had (an immediate red flag in a restaurant of this caliber). My main course, a tenderloin, arrived as an overcooked end piece. After sending it back and requesting rare, it returned slightly less well done, still an end cut, and completely overwhelmed by a salty, heavy red wine demi-glace that tasted more like something from a packet than a refined sauce. It was one of the least appetizing beef dishes I have perhaps ever had. The cheese plate featured Great Hill Blue which some might love but is available at my local Stop & Shop so didn't really knock my socks off, a boring cheddar and a third cheese I can't even recall. At a restaurant of this caliber, I was expecting a much more curated collection of exciting, super, stinky cheeses that one could not find at a chain grocery store. At nearly $700 for two people (with a few drinks and a multi-course menu), the experience simply did not come close to justifying the cost. The following night, we had a $200 dinner at Chez Rosa, the Little French bisto in downtown Kennebunkport. The meal there FAR surpassed this meal in both flavor and execution. Based on our experience--and what seems to be echoed in more recent reviews--the quality of the food here no longer matches its reputation or price point. This was meant to be a special occasion destination, but instead left us feeling frustrated and genuinely let down.
