Went for the first time today and were greeted by two of the nicest people. Instead of the usual "eat in or take out?", she asked " Are you eating here with us today?". Yesterday me and my cousin drove around oob to see what's opened before tourist season begins and he noticed David's sub and we weren't sure if they were open so we circled back. They were so I ran in to grab some menus. The minute I walked in someone was at the counter and the employee was discussing the breakfast and the options that came with it. He mentioned French Toast, Pancakes, Eggs, Beans, at this point I was drooling, grabbed 2 menu's and went back to the jeep. While we were looking over the menu the employee came out and let us know that they had pulled pork ready and they had a shepherds pie coming out soon. We headed in and my cousin ordered the Pastrami sandwich, I ordered the clam cake plate with a side of onion rings. We grabbed drinks and sat at a table. Within minutes we were asked about what condiments we needed, given silverware and napkins and out came our food. Now being from Maine I expect a certain quality of clam cakes..... OMFG I was definitely not disappointed. They were exactly what I expected. Crispy outside, hot and tasty inside. The onion rings were juicy inside. My cousin said his roll was fresh and soft and the Pastrami was perfect. We couldn't have been happier with the meal , the price and the quality of service. If I had to have 1 complaint it would be the menu. It's extensive and all sounded good so making a choice was hard lol This will definitely be a place to go back to and try more stuff off the menu They also have a menu board with daily specials like soups etc. When we were there they had pulled pork, shepherds pie, lobster rolls (2 sizes) and they had just made homemade molasses cookies which were huge! We had swung by David's sub shop a couple weeks ago and it was just what we were looking for! I'm from Portland and don't often visit OOB so I was unsure where I could get a Maine Italian sandwich. This is a no frill's experience. It is one of the least expensive places for food, including breakfast in Old Orchard Beach. They used to be in a blue building on Saco Ave but moved to Heath near Family Dollar. The owner is the cook and Steve is the host. There is a litany of regulars that come here to see each other. While it's sparse, it's the people and simple food that are the appeal here. It's two block to the Beach. Ask for not on the menu specials. read more

Well I woke up in a super bad mood this morning. I lost my purse that had my lanyard for the ballpark concerts. Huge bummer. We walked into Dave's subshop.. the man Steve behind the counter was so friendly and nice and when you walked in ... I just had to change my mood. The meals Two delicious breakfast sandwiches.. sausage and ham..my husband had that.. The bagels were twisted apart fresh and delicious, and we had the hash Brown on the side. Steve who works behind the counter is so nice and friendly and so aren't everyone that works there. The place is Spotless. If Steve doesn't know your name he knows your sandwich!!! After my first experience here was a flop, I decided to give them a second chance based on the good reviews on here. First time I had a large chicken finger sub... this is one of my favorites at other places. Their version fell flat... the chicken fingers were of low quality, and they didn't toast the bread or cheese at all. The bread is very large and was quite stale, so there isn't much room for fillings. As a result, every bite is majority bread. All other toppings are meager and forgettable. Next time, I got my go-to sub: turkey with American cheese and bacon. Bread was stale again, with almost no turkey in the sandwich. See photo. A single line of bacon went along the top, so maybe 3 slices total for a large. Again, each bite was majority (stale) bread. There are plenty of better sandwich shops around here... Saco Bay Variety, even gas stations! I'll choose another place next time. read more

Based on the high Yelp ratings, I was a bit surprised with the quality and value of David's Sub Shop. This is my second time eating here, and I was unimpressed both times. This time, we got the chicken Cesar wrap. Small, bland. My wife got the veggie sub. Just okay. And it all was expensive. $23 for two subs and two chips. I had high hopes based on the Yelp ratings (and proximity to my house) but I won't return. read more

I realized this weekend that my ideal restaurant is any place that nails the basics, no matter their size, reputation, menu, or style. Yes, this is a tiny sub shop in a beach town but it gets 5 stars because it absolutely nails the essentials: - The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful - The food was right as expected - large subs with fresh tasty ingredients on soft rolls - Cool inside on a hot day The classic menu board (see my photos) was a nice bonus but this place would've earned the stars without it. We liked this place so much that we went there twice in one day! Our first visit was for breakfast. After being discouraged by long lines at places near the beach, we were running out of options. We had French toast (one of their Saturday breakfast options). It was delicious - we could tell the slices of bread had been properly soaked in eggs and milk. We came back later for sandwiches. I had the meatball parm and it met my standards for a good meatball parm. My only regret is letting my husband have some, LOL! read more

Stopped in for some lunch. The place was packed with worker bees on lunch. I picked a meatball sub and cause I was really hungry got a haddock chowder as well. The chowdah was awesome and the sub good. I got the sub to go and by the time I got to it, it was a little soggy. But the sauce was rich and full of flavor and I ate the whole thing including licking my fingers. But as I was paying for my sub I heard a lot of orders 4 tater tots. When I saw them listed as a special I thought they were those little potato things but with so many people ordering I asked what they were. Oh my gosh! Mashed potatoes topped with a fried chicken breast and golden gravy. If it is as good as it sounds I will be in heaven even if it's only part as good as it sounds. I will definitely be back, searching the roadside sign for tater tot special. Finally got my tater tots and they were awesome. 3 scoops of what I think we're real mashed potatoes topped with corn, gravy, cut up pieces of fried chicken breast and melted cheddar cheese. There was nothing left on my plate. If they had them every day I could eat them everyday for a week. But I think they only have them on Thursdays. Hosted an executive board meeting for a group I belong to. We called in a lunch time order for 14 sandwiches. They were ready in 30 minutes. The order was boxed up when I got there and Steve, who's wicked nice, even offered to carry it out to the car for me. Every single sandwich was clearly labeled and prepared exactly as ordered (no small feat), and all 14 people loved their choice. The staff is always friendly. I love David's Sub Shop! read more

I happen to have a piano tuning in the area and it was past lunch time. Kathy and I decided to try this place, we're glad we did. I had a cheesesteak sub, nice fresh roll lightly toasted, meat was tender and tasty. Kathy had the homemade beef stew and a grilled cheese sandwich, both yummy. We topped it all off with a homemade brownie, they are huge so we split one. Real chocolate taste, almost fudge like, good stuff. The people working The counter and kitchen were nice and friendly. One of the only lunch places around that is open 7 days a week! The staff here are super friendly and the food is great too! Right on the outskirts of downtown OOB, this place is very reasonably priced. David's Sub Shop is more than just sandwiches too. From macaroni salads to house-made brownies, they have a little bit of everything. My new favorite lunch spot in the Saco, Biddeford, OOB area. They have every sandwich you could possibly want, though the creature of habit in me orders the buffalo chicken finger sub most every time. D-'licious! Got there about noontime. I suggest calling first, this is a small but busy place. We ordered lobster rolls and I had an egg salad sandwich. Lobster rolls were delicious, and we got the smaller one, for $15--it did not disappoint and was more generous with the lobster meat than a big, well-known place we went to and were disappointed by. We pulled up to this sub shop at 2:58, not realizing that they closed at 3pm (due to a loss of business from Covid) and a worker came out and said "did you order online?" We replied no, but we would like to order. He explained they had closed, but then said "hey if you want a cold sub I'd be happy to whip it up really quickly for you!" This was my first trip to OOB. On our way into town we stopped at David's. I'm so glad we did. They have an extensive, inexpensive but very delicious menu. Terrible food and service. The owner lied about being the owner and was really rude to me for no reason except that I didn't like his wrap. He wouldn't listen to me and wanted to debate that a BLT has lettuce and tomato. (which we both know) as well as debate some other obvious things. Horrible experience...would never go back again.
