Mel's is a must for breakfast in Sanford or any of the surrounding areas. When we camp at bunganut- Mel's for breakfast, when we stay with friends or family in Sanford- Mel's for breakfast. They have two locations but we always prefer the one off of route 4, not Main Street. The service is always spot on, they have a great selection of multiple items. They have pancakes, omelets, specials by the day and week, they have great coffee and they have a muffin of the day. Their food is never bad. Never. They place is painted to look like you're sitting in a raspberry patch on a lake in the mountains. It's beautiful work, done very well. It's cozy and pleasant. I never leave hungry, angry, or displeased. I will recommend them over and over. They are amazing. The fact that they have multiple choices in things like hash browns.... Top tier. They are a smaller place, so there is usually a wait. It's worth it. Always. Check them out !!! PSA: they are not wheelchair accessible, unfortunately but the one on Main Street is!

Having moved to Sanford a few years ago, I had consistently drove by Mel's Raspberry Patch and had put it in my mental list of places to try. One Saturday morning, my partner and I decided that we wanted breakfast, and we figured we would try out Mel's. For starters, the venue is VERY small. There are only about 9 tables, which explains the typical wait of people outside of the establishment come 10am. We were early, so we were able to snag a table right away. Our waitress was very friendly and offered us coffee. Looking around, it was clear that the establishment has it's consistent recurring regulars. Looking at the menu, it has you traditional breakfast staples at a very low price. Options included pancakes, benedicts, french toast, etc. As a heads up, they do not serve any alcohol, so if you are looking for mimosas or bloodies, this is not your place. I ended up ordering a benedict with homefries. There was a good amount of food, especially for the price, however, my hollandaise sauce was broken leaving a grainy texture, and the homefries were lacking flavor/seasoning. If you are looking for a quick, cheap, and alcohol-free breakfast, Mel's is your spot to go. For me, it just missed the mark.

Great place I've eaten there many times. I'm looking forward to go back. A good thing is it's right down the street.

The breakfast is one of the best around! Clean and neat environment, small inside but tables are evenly placed without crowding.

Located in Alfred, Maine, this restaurant has a friendly yet fancy vibe…read more Sit at the bar where one of the best bartenders, Connor, will set you up with a tasty beverage and ensure your meal is perfect. The scallop risotto was recommended to me and it did not disappoint! I am looking forward to waiting the leftovers! Creamy, smoky, perfectly cooked scallops accompany a creamy risotto with baby spinach and sun dried tomatoes with fresh prosciutto... heaven in a bite! If seafood is not your thing, don't worry! Their selection of steaks are mouth-watering and are accompanied with options such as mushroom demi-glaze (so delicious), cowboy butter, or horseradish sauce. You can cut the steak with a butter knife!! Add dessert to go- the chocolate lava cake and cheesecake are fresh and yummy too. We will definitely be back for more! Highly recommend!

I can tell you the Home made onion rings are absolutely delicious., I ordered the steak tips but they ran out so I was offered a sirloin steak. It wasn't what I asked for but it was OK. I got that with a baked potato.. Our waitress was very friendly and accommodating to the four-year-old that was with us... she had a bowl of pasta and loved it. We were also served bread and butter, which tasted very fresh. I suggest to check it out if you're in the area oh yes, and they had a full bar with Sports on the TV.

My wife and I come here on special occasions like birthdays, Valentine's Day, etc. Our recent visit…read moreon my wife's birthday was no exception. We started the evening with cocktails which were very much to our liking, followed by a delicious appetizer of lobster risotto that we shared. We both ordered the short ribs which were mouthwatering and cooked to perfection that the meat fell off the bone. The servings were enough where we took the bones and whatever meat was left to make a delicious beef soup. Neither one of us were up for dessert but decided to get two to go, which we downed once we got home. And they were both delicious. In closing, I'd be remiss without saying a good word about our server Keila. She was warm, friendly, funny, and very attentive to our table. She made our night to enjoyable! Thanks you Keila ! We look forward to our next visit to The Village Inn soon.

Here's what doesn't seem to have changed: it's an attractive, slightly out-of-the-way dining spot that has a very nice bar, comfy seating on a patio and inside, good servers (thank you Heather!), and a menu with a lot of tasty choices. We continue to recommend it, although hesitantly. There have been some changes, in our opinion, that left us just a little disappointed, hence four stars not five. Blackened salmon: pretty good but not much blackened and just a little bit dry. Seafood poblano with clams and scallops: excellent, well seasoned. Calamari: Crunchy but much too chewy. Yummy spinach, a crab cake that tasted bland. Sourdough bread wasn't warm and left us wanting. Fine bar choices with local beers. The romaine salad was, well, unusual, with a blueberry vinaigrette that was awfully sweet for our taste and, frankly, kind of hard to cut. Final verdict? Not quite up to what we hoped for after our experience a dozen years ago. Maybe that's us; memory can be tricky. But we came away not quite as happy as the last time for sure and a little more cautious in recommending the restaurant. If you're curious, entree prices generally in the $30s, appetizers $12-20, cocktails around 12-15. We're giving the Tavern four stars, but 3.5 would be closer to our preference.
