We dined at Five 0 over the weekend. We originally had a reservation for four people on Friday night. Two more people wanted to join us so I left a message with the restaurant on Thursday. One of the owners called back on Friday morning to say that he'd try to make it for six people but it was going to be hard because they were so busy. Later in the afternoon he left a text message saying that we were all set for six at our requested time. This is personalized service that you don't see very often these days. Thanks to Gary for the pleasant conversation and the over and above effort. We've been to Five 0 a few times in the last month and the ambiance, vibe and service are excellent. The food is well prepared and delicious with a nice menu selection. It's an easy walk from Perkins Cove or Ogunquit Center but they do have Valet parking. Amherst Choice! read more

We were visiting friends in the area and made a reservation at 5-0. We were seated at our table and served drinks but then asked to move so they could seat a larger party. We agreed and were move to a table in front of the picture window with no blinds and the sun was so bright we had move one seat to the side. We asked to be moved somewhere, anywhere but by the time the tried to move us our dinners were out so we made due. My steak was awesome although my wife said her chicken was dry but tolerable. While the waitress seemed apologetic for our issues the restaurant made no effort to make us whole for moving to a completely unacceptable location. Not an offer of dessert or discount...nothing. We went on 4th of July. So, it was a very busy night, so service was very slow. That being said the waiter told us multiple times that he was slammed and was sorry for taking so long. I had the chicken which has a delicious pan sauce and my friend had the swordfish that she also said was well prepared. Great little spot in downtown Ogunquit. We came here while staying at the Cliff House and split a bunch of appetizers. The fried oysters were some of the best we've had! We debated ordering a second plate. I also recommend the veal meatballs and octopus. In addition, Five O Offers a wide selection of cocktails. My overall takeaway would be that this was a good meal with fast, COVID-safe service. We had the bolognese and the pork and both were pretty tasty, classic dishes. They have outdoor dining for COVID-19 precautions. Masks are required on the way to your table and all the servers wear masks. The location is great because you can easily walk to the big parking lot and see all the shops before/after dinner. I recommend making a reservation through Resy. I asked Resy to notify me if a 7pm Friday reservation became available and I got a notice 24 hours before dinner that it did! So don't give up if your date/time isn't available at first glance - ask to be notified. read more

Friday night in this town is pretty rockin!! Very busy. Lots of people having fun. We pulled into the parking for this place and found that we were kinda stuck. Small lot was full. Backing out was going to be interesting. Two guys walked out of the back of the restaurant and were talking. We asked if they were leaving and they said no and asked how he could help. Told him the dilemma and he pointed to the side of the restaurant and told me to park there. Wasn't a spot but he said it would be fine. So we parked. I had to crawl over the console and passenger seat but we had a spot!! Gary was his name and he really helped make the visit to his place more special. Thanks Gary for all your help! The food and atmosphere is awesome here! The calamari was some of the best I've ever had and the clam pasta was so delicious! The main room isn't too big so if it's busy it can get loud. I came here with two friends for dinner last night, and was blown away! I've passed this restaurant a dozen times, and I'm kicking myself for how long it took to actually make a reservation. Everything we ordered was incredible, starting with the octopus appetizer, and delicious martinis. For entreés, we enjoyed the lasagnette, halibut, and risotto. Everything was outstanding. I lived in NYC for 8 years and I've been in Boston for 20. This restaurant could hold up against any of those in the city. My husband and I took our chances and were delighted to find two seats at the bar. We weren't very hungry and decided to share a small plate and a few appetizers. We started with the chicken liver pate. Pure nirvana! The smooth and rich pate was served on crostini and topped with sweet pears. The flavor combinations were magical! Next we shared the mixed green salad with figs, almonds and goat cheese. I was slightly skeptical about the pickled red onion dressing, but once again the flavor combinations were pure magic! Finally we shared the grilled octopus. Slices of perfectly grilled octopus accompanied by slices of fingerling potatoes, olives, garlic and olive oil. I hate to sound like a broken record but once again magical combinations of flavor! Good food, not so good service... We made reservations at No. Five-o for dinner on a weekday, so it was nice and quiet. The moment we walked in there was a red flag. The woman at the counter was on the phone, she looked up at us, said nothing, looked back down and continued talking. A little later she asked to put them on hold. Then took us to our table. It got worse from there. The table we were sat at had someone's hair on it. I made sure it wasn't any of ours. It was a different color. The server was SO rude to us. One of us had an allergy and when we told him about it, he forgot! He gave us bread with a side, and kept walking. He didn't say what it was. We had to ask another server, she told us it had lemon in it! He came by a few times, barely saying anything except mumbling. I think he was having a bad day. Now onto the food. It was pretty good. No complaints really. However, they charged us for water. He asked if we wanted sparkling or still water. We assumed still meant tap, I specifically said tap. By the end the bill said 15$ extra for water. It was like he was upset we weren't ordering alcohol so he secretly snuck it onto the bill. When we finished the first bottle he brought another over without asking too. At the end when we told him about it, he started arguing with us. He demanded he made no mistake, which wasn't the problem, it was that we were obviously mislead. In the end he took it off the bill begrudgingly. read more

This was a very underwhelming experience for my birthday dinner this weekend. Luckily our party of 11 was seat right away (because of a reservation) but after that the food was not what we expected. The pieces are high for an average meal... table shareable plates a are small (especially the fried oysters!!). The cocktails were overly sweet with too much syrup in them. The entrees were decent (some were very flavorful and others not so much) though a little pricy. The waitstaff had the attitude of a "posh" type restaurant constantly eyeballing our large table. We won't be rushing back here anytime soon during our next Ogunquit visit - there are better restaurants downtown! read more

I just want to say if you have a food allergy, stay AWAY!! I have a pine nut allergy. I told the server to please make sure there were no pine nuts on a salad I ordered. She assured me that was fine. When my salad arrived, it had pine nuts on it. Luckily I noticed and asked to send it back. I was very clear about this allergy and she was great in reassuring me that it could be done. The food runner grabbed the wrong salad and that is why my salad had pine nuts on it. Thank God I didn't eat it !!! At the end of the evening, I asked to speak to the manager to let him know what happened. I am a nurse, so I thought it was important that they know what happened. I just wanted to let them know how serious this could have been, had I not noticed. The manager came out and I explained to him what happened in a very nice way. He was so rude and just kept on saying "You ordered a salad that came with pine nuts" as if it were my fault. I told him I asked if it was okay to get the salad without the pine nuts and was told that was fine. He never apologized and was so rude, it was incredible! I have never experienced anything like this in my life. Acted totally like he didn't care and he just kept saying" You ordered the salad." Unbelievable! Our server Nikko was amazing, it's clear him and the Chef are a dynamic duo and my husband and I had an incredible experience. I've lived in Boston's North End 14 years and I'm a pasta snob. This pasta, was better than most North End Restaurants. I highly recommend this restaurant and thank Nikko, the very sweet bubbly blonde hostess and the Chef for such an amazing experience! Our table tried a whole suite of the appetizers. My favorite were those yummy warm olives. For dinner I had the scallops. I want to say I liked the dish overall, but it wasn't spectacular. Flavor and presentation wise, it was a bit scattered. The scallops were a little dry/over-cooked. One dish that really stood out to me was their Rack of Wild Boar. I loved the presentation of the Wheat berries, roasted apple, fig mustarda, red and wine gastrique! Everything looked divine, and you can see the care that goes into the overall experience. No. Five-O Shore Road is the place to go for expertly made cocktails and delicious food offerings. My favorite cocktail is the Ginger Mule made with freshly puréed ginger, but all the martinis are equally good including my go to classic dirty martini. For those not wanting to eat in the full main dining room there is a nicely appointed bar area where you can sit at the bar or high top tables. This is frequently a popular option given a number of small plate options and the variety of the menu offerings. If you don't want dinner, consider the bar for small plates and cocktails. There is also outdoor dining available in addition to the main dining room. On this visit, the arugula salad was nicely made with appropriate amount of tossed in dressing and salt. The figs and toasted almonds paired perfectly with the fresh arugula and the blue cheese. The pasta comes in two sizes. Consider a small portion as an in between course to feel like you are in Italy before going on to your protein entree. On the recent night I was there there was a pillowy mushroom ravioli with the perfect creamy sauce on top. I was not over hungry and got the smaller portion and it was amazing. The steaks and rack of lamb which I had on previous occasions are equally good and a couple of consistently good go to options. The lobster risotto is nicely prepared and offerings a good amount of lobster. This is a dependably good restaurant for cocktails and food. The service is always knowledgeable and friendly. Sitting at the bar you appreciate how hard the bar staff work, but they never lose track of you and offer pleasant small talk throughout. Food was good but our experience was ruined by a rude waiter who walked away when we were mid sentence, basically threw the dishes onto the table, and rushed us through our entire meal. We ordered two cocktails, a starter, and two entrees. Our waiter, Ricardo, brought us our starter 2 minutes after we ordered it and then cleared it before we were done and without asking. Our mains came out very quickly after and yet again our waiter tried to clear before we were done. My boyfriend wanted pepper and cheese for his pasta dish but wasn't offered any and never had the chance to even ask for some. About 35 minutes after we were seated we were brought the check (we did not ask for it). We did not want a fast food experience and I was left very upset with our date night being ruined by a completely rude waiter. It was Saturday night 8:30-9pm and the place was only half full so no need to rush us for the table. This place was highly recommended to us and we were really looking forward to dining here. Terrible Service. Our waiter, Sean (or Shawn?) had several gaffes. First, he spilled my wife's drink with some of it splashing onto her. Sean made no apology at all, virtually laughed about it, stating "if I took a sip that wouldn't have happened", and just left the spill on the table and menu. Not much acknowledgement, NO sense of responsibility, NO corrective action until it was requested. My wife had to ask for club soda and a cloth napkin to try to clean off what spilled onto her. Sean brought both - but again never seriously mentioned the spill - never cleaned the mess on the table. My wife did so with the cloth napkin. That's the worst of it, but not the only issue. I asked if a fish on the menu was local and Sean said he wasn't sure but didn't think it was because he didn't recall seeing it on the menu much. Any decent waiter would have asked "would you like me to check on it?". My wife noticed that the menu actually noted it was a local fish. Sean gave us water, without us asking for any, which was good - but he never came to refill. It was a day we'll into to 90's. My wife ordered a pasta dinner. She had to ask Sean for cheese. Most people like cheese with pasta! Sean should have offered it, we should not have had to ask. As we were eating our dinner Sean quickly asked "how's it tasting", but did that while he briskly walked by us. I'm not sure he actually heard our reply. He didn't 'stop' to REALLY ask in any interested way. Sean was busy but certainly not swamped. Again, seemed like he could care less. He brought us bread covered with a cloth napkin that room temperature (wasn't warm), so no real need to insulate it with a napkin. Maybe not Sean's fault, but worth mentioning. This was an fairly upscale restaurant. As soon as we sat down I thought it was odd that the napkins were black paper and not cloth. That's not Sean's fault but, again, worth mentioning. I also thought it was odd that the table had no salt or pepper. I don't think I've ever been anywhere that didn't. I had to ask for pepper for my clam chowder. Sean brought a pepper mill and kind of thrust it at me and said something to the affect of "this is a pepper mill, it's the same as a shaker". It's actually better, but again, Sean was pretty odd about it. I will say that other than the mediocre soup my meal was great. But it didn't overcome the desire to just walk out because of Sean's poor service. I ALWAYS tip 20% or more. But given Sean's terrible service it really made the experience one that I would have preferred to never have had, and I left him about 10%, maybe less. At bare minimum he should have taken some - any - recognition AND regret for spilling the drink on out table and on my wife. read more

Hours listed on yelp and google are not honored during the off season. We showed up at 7pm to the restaurant for a meal since most other restaurants in town were closed for the season. We waited at the front for a few minutes while the bartender ate his food behind the bar and then we were finally informed that they aren't serving anyone else for the night. He mentioned something about not having any customers for the last 2 hours so I'm under the impression they decided to shut down early. There was another couple at the bar drinking, but I'm sure they also ate something before those final drinks. I understand we came during the off season, but if your restaurant is listed as being open and there are staff working, I don't quite understand why you cannot serve customers willing to pay for food. Beginning with our arrival, this restaurant began to shine. No endlessly circling the block or lot here, they have a friendly valet service to do the parking for you. On this our first visit, we were as warmly greeted as if we were longtime customers and the hostess quickly/easily matched us to the rest of our party and directed us to bar! The bar area was fairly good sized with lots of comfortable seats and a very large list of cocktails to choose from. As a small warning they do label all of these many fine cocktails as martinis. If this drives you nutty too, just don't look at the list. The bartenders know their stuff, have a full bar and are happy to mix a very good version of whatever you like! Moving on to the dining room, I was very pleased with the For The Table section of the menu. It is divided into Farm,Land,Sea,and Cheese segments and you can choose 3 ($20) or 5($30) small plates to share amongst your guests. We tried the nicely crunchy fried oysters, super savory veal meatballs, chicken liver pate, arancini and a very nice aged cheese from VT! Yum! I followed that up with a very tasty Bolognese, rich with veal and pork served over a perfectly cooked hand cut Tagliatelle. Also very good were my wife's gnocchi with wild boar (always a good addition!). Combined with the bar and the shared bites this made for a very satisfying meal. If you are ever in Ogunquit and looking for an upscale restaurant with with a menu broad enough to make your entire family happy this a good one to try. read more

Recently went to Five-O with another couple we invited. The first time for all of us. First of all I googled the menu. Found something I had planned to order. Got to the restaurant and when it was time to order the waitress informed me that the menu changes quite regularly. I was disappointed as there wasn't anything on the current menu that appealed to me. I settled for the Bolognese. It was just so so. It didn't come with anything so I ordered a Caesar salad which was tasteless. A couple of what must have been croutons were on top. Romaine must have been washed but was still quite wet and watered down any flavor there was suppose to be from the dressing. No shaved Parmesan cheese to give it some oomph. One of the guests ordered the $36. steak which came with a nest of stringy but crispy, overly salted potato "strings" which you had to eat with your fingers. So steak with potato strings . Finally dessert!!! That was the best thing we had at $14.00 a head. Wait staff was polite but not very welcoming and we felt rushed. They couldn't get our plates off the table fast enough... Zero ambiance. Not even a tablecloth to at least make it look nice. Will never return or recommend. Wish I had taken pictures. One star rating is for the dessert. I was excited to try this place after reading reviews. We have been to many restaurants in the area. I did detect a bit of attitude the minute we walked in from the hostess who could not find the reservation right away. The waitress was a bit robotic and did not come across as friendly except when we were ready to leave and seemed almost happy we were done so soon. The bread was very good and really enjoyed the appetizers. The main meal was a different story. The house made gnocchi looked as though it was fried. It was brown and actually the whole dish looked brown. A few bites even tasted burnt. The gnocchi was rubbery and was not at all the correct texture. There was a sprinkle of some arugula but when presentation was not appetizing. There was supposed to be an olive arugula pesto which I was excited about. There was no taste of pesto or olive. The whole dish had the same flavor and was missing dimension. After eating a few bites it was all I could stomach and I did not want any more. Waitress did not ask if I wanted to take home either and there was more than half the plate left. I would not have taken it home anyway. I have other places and likely would not return. It does seem that the staff attitude is if you do not come back someone else will take your place. A huge disappointment in an otherwise awesome time in Ogunquit. read more
