Food service and atmosphere all great. Celebrated my birthday with family (party of 8).

My go to.... Parmesan Crusted Chicken Pesto

Food and service is always amazing. The name matches the ambiance perfectly. Small bar area so if you prefer that over seating get there early!

One of the better Margherita flatbreads I've had. Very tasty. However the seafood chowder wasn't that good--very bland and was served lukewarm. For $12 I could've done without it. I do appreciate the variety in menu, you could order a fancy meal (like what they serve upstairs in their main restaurant), or you could just order a burger. Fun vibe, the decor makes you feel like you're on a ship. A little dark inside so keep your flashlight handy... If it weren't for yelp I might've missed this place just driving by. They keep the door open but there's no huge "Cellar Pub" sign besides the writing above the door. It's very easy to miss. Not sure if this is how they want it since it is part of the York Harbor Inn but it would probably be smart to add a bigger sign to attract more customers that are passing by. Would go back for the flatbread!

Casual place with good food and good service by Corey. Great Cheese Burger but the fries were just ok. We started off with delicious onion rings and I had a Caesar Salad which was just ok. My wife had the parmesan crusted chicken which she truly enjoyed. It was crowded so recommend making reservations. We went there on Saturday night so they had a one man band playing and he was good. I would recommend parking on the street because the parking lot behind the inn has no lights on a dirt parking lot. We would definitely go back.

Kicking myself. Staying at the fabulous York Harbor Inn and my last night I decide to venture downstairs. What a beautiful, cozy, fun space. The bartender, Rocco- friendly and so much energy. I ordered a margarita flatbread. Sooooo much food and delicious. Very fun bar area. You won't be disappointed!

This quaint pub is a fabulous find. We felt as if we were on a ship. The woodwork is gorgeous. The wait staff was attentive and service was speedy. The crab cakes were delicious and the seafood chowder was as well. The option to pay via Q code was icing on the cake. Great all around experience.

I ate one bite of my hamburger. I paid $28 for a microwaved burger. All I can say it was nasty.

This quaint gastropub doesn't look like much from the outside, but inside, this seems like a place where locals are regulars and tourists are happy to get a table at this "no reservations" joint. It's dark inside (no photos) and a little cramped. The bartenders are serving double duty mixing and pouring drinks while also playing DJ and spinning vinyl records. And it felt like everyone inside was exactly where they wanted to be at the moment...enjoying each other's company and sharing drinks and food. The menu is about the size you would expect from a small kitchen - a fair number of appetizer dishes meant for sharing, and a handful of entrees, ranging from casual to a bit more refined. The grilled cheese and tomato soup ($19) was made with a hearty artisan bread that hit the spot on a chilly evening. Similarly, the coq au vin ($26) was classic comfort food, with perfectly cooked smashed fingerling potatoes surrounded by a rich, decadent reduction sauce smothering meaty mushrooms and soft pearl onions. Note, the coq au vin did take a long time to prepare, so not the dish to order if you're in a hurry. A couple of not-too-sweet lemon ricotta donuts (with chocolate sauce) was a great way to end the meal.

Trying to find the place was difficult, however it confirmed it was the right place to go to based on locals we asked about it. It wasn't my preferred type of beer, but I found it tasty and refreshing. The next morning at breakfast at a restaurant in town, there were small signs on the table for their beers. So that afternoon, I went to Liar's Bench for lunch. I appreciate the messages the universe had sent me. Apart from a challenge getting parking at lunchtime, with several spots in the lot reserved for nearby Murray's Plumbing, there's much to like about Liar's Bench (and that's no lie). The beer selection is varied enough that I was able to get a very satisfying flight. My local friend had suggested I order whatever was the chef's special of the day (which today was a specialty burger), but we instead opted for the BBQ platter for 2, with a large amount of pulled pork, slaw, potato salad, and Texas toast. We sat at the bar and had great service and conversation. I can see why this is a popular lunch destination. Another bonus for me is that Liar's Bench is the closest brewery to a hotel at which I often stay when I'm in Portsmouth, making this a new destination for me when I'm in the area.

Overall, I'd come back to try the food, it's unique to see "tubed meats" on the menu. I'm getting a lot of German influences when. it comes to the menu.
