While in Portsmouth for a work trip, I stopped by Earth Eagle Brewings and was seriously impressed. I ordered the goat burger, which was juicy, flavorful, and cooked perfectly, and paired it with their Cassowary Lager -- crisp, refreshing, and a great match for the burger. Honestly confused by the high average for this brewery. Maybe I'm spoiled my local breweries in CT and MA but this place was nothing special. Not horrible but after trying 4 beers none of them stood out or made me want to bring something home. The pretzel was fine but overpriced for the size and quality. Also, when we arrived the front entrance and bar area looked deserted - all the chairs were up on the tables and bar top. We walked around the corner outside and saw a small seating area. A little confusing, we weren't sure where to go or what to do. Turns out you just seat yourself and they'll come out to you from the other bar area in back. Service was fine but the long back and forth meant longer than expected wait times just for a beer. Would I go back? Nah, but if you're walking by maybe you'll find a pint you enjoy. read more

Found this little brewery walking around downtown Portsmouth on a rainy day. We had popped into several boutiques to kill time and stay dry, so it was nice to stumble upon a nice watering hole to change things up! My boyfriend and I both got a flight and between the two of us we tried most of the beer on tap. Reasonably priced (I think $12 for 4 beer samples). They had a little of everything and all had a good flavor, there wasn't one that we didn't like. My boyfriend's favorite was the New England Gangsta (IPA) and mine was a sour... I'm the worst and forgot the name but it was a very mild and enjoyable sour that didn't leave you smacking your lips. We didn't try the food, but it all looked good from what was coming out around us. They have a "dog" side of the menu and a "cow" side... I feel like I'd be team hot "dog" if I did get food as those were best looking of all the food coming out! It was a cozy little place with some bar, table and cozy couch/chair seating. Small and intimate. The lady working was super nice and friendly, and checked on us enough but not to the point of annoyance. Loved the service and atmosphere a lot. If I was a local I would definitely frequent this watering hole! So if you are local, not sure what you're doing still reading this review... get your butt off the couch and go quench your thirst here! read more

Great spot for a burger and beer flight! I absolutely loved the Brethren Code (white coconut stout). It was light, unique, and not overly sweet. Burger was good and the service was friendly. I think a good example can be had from their website.. which barely talks about beer... certainly no "on Tap" list or references of past beer. maybe they try to make too many styles instead of being great at one or 2? I mean no disrespect. its a great place to stop by for a quick $8 beer. Best hotdogs in the northeast. Massive variety of specialty topped dogs, ranging from classic to funky. I had one with beets and goat cheese that literally changed my entire thoughts on hotdogs as a meal. Will be back to try more, and all said and done they are moderately priced. The beer? Meh. Decent selection and taste , just nothing to write home about. Thanks to the craft beer explosion I really need a brewery to do something special to stand out from the crowd. Ok, I'm going to pass on this place. My wife and I stopped by for the first time, today. Immediately was confused by the "empty" space which was made more confusing by the dim lighting. Then, saw the small sign that said come downstairs, we're open. So, we navigated that bit of confusion and went downstairs. Where, we sat ourselves down at a table across from the bar and the bartender. After getting no service, I then went up to the bartender and asked for menus. Went back and sat down and picked out our food choices. But again, no one bothered to come over. Now mind you, there were less than 3 other, small tables with customers. And, quite honestly, the bartender seemed way too frazzled and bedraggled to handle anything more than the hand-full of customers. We seemed to be a burden to her. So, we left. Earth Eagle is the first brewery/gastropub I've visited since arriving in this area, and they've set the bar really high for subsequent places! The staffers here were very well informed, helpful, and welcoming; they actively encouraged us to sample whatever brews caught our fancies. While I must confess that I'm not a beer expert of any kind, I was really impressed by the sheer variety and depth of choices available. Fortunately for me, my friend was driving the night of our first visit, so I got to try quite a number of different beers. To recollect a few, I very much enjoyed the Samantha-a sour, the Indian Summer was light and stimulating, the R&R Hefeweizen was very refreshing, and I ulitimately fell in love (at least for that evening) with the Engine Joe coffee porter. The only food I've tried here thus far was a jumbo-sized pretzel; it was hot, fresh, and very tasty! I saw quite a number of other's people's food orders leaving the kitchen and passing by our table; the smells and sights were such that I have no doubt about returning another night for some more beer AND some food :-) Tip: The venue is on the smallish side, but the decor is really attractive - highly recommended!! read more

So glad our good friend took us here. She had discovered this charming spot the night before. What a delightful teeny craft brewery in charming area of Portsmouth. It is in a transformed garage with spunky and funky atmosphere. We loved all 8 of the beers we sampled. Heck, they only had 9 on tap! Why didn't we try them all? Guess we have to go back. Most unique beer had curry flavor. A small sample was good but not sure I would want 8 ounces. IPAs and a stout were really superior beers. We had already had dinner but their food items including a Vermont raclette looked very fine indeed. Lots of cheese options. Cheese and beer: two of my favorite food groups. Visited this location while walking around Portsmouth last week. There was plenty of outdoor seating and we were greeted quickly. We love to try different beers so we ordered a flight to share along with a pretzel. The pours were a great size, easily shareable, and there were some great options. Cool Spot. It's small but don't let that deter you. My wife and I were in town for a recent October weekend. The plans were to drink beers, eat and enjoy the area. We stayed at the Ale House Inn and our Innkeeper recommended Earth Eagle highly. We only had beer (though the menu looked nummers) and it was still nice enough to sit out on in the patio. They had 12 beers on tap so we just got 2 flights of 6 beers and tried them all. Neither of us really like sour beers so those were sort of a waste but the others were very tasty. If we weren't spreading out our day drinking we likely could've parked our arses on that patio for the full afternoon. I would definitely return. read more
