Nice place or a coffee in the little town of Bethlehem. Stopped in on our drive home from the Poconos and after a little jog trying to find the Joint we arrived at its doorstep. The address according to Google is on one street and then you need to round the corner and go through an alley to actually find it. Once you get there it's worth it though because the coffee was pretty good. I had a Cappuccino and even though it took literally 10 minutes to make, rounding down, it was a good cup. The best part for us was sitting in the courtyard behind the shop. It's a nice quiet little square with some trees for shade and a view of what seemed to be some historic buildings. For me the view was a nice change from your typical coffee house environment so a welcomed change. Inside was tiny and oddly humid so not sure I would stop in and stay but will definitely come back for a cup o' joe and to hang in the courtyard. Give it a look. read more

I unfortunately don't have much good to say about the Joint. I was visiting my grandmother over Thanksgiving and we wanted to shop at the Bethlehem Christmas market. I was so excited to see a highly rated coffee shop on yelp right in the market, but for me, The Joint did not live up to the hype. I only give two stars because the coffee and matcha I ordered were both quite good. Otherwise, I wish I could give this place 0 stars for service. The line was HUGE when we walked in. Im sure the two servers working were overwhelmed with the amount of people coming in, however I don't believe that gives them any reason to be unfriendly. The servers barely said hello to anyone. The did not have a very good system of taking and making orders because they kept getting SO backed up. Noone apologized or thanked the customers for having to wait. It was such a stark contrast to the joyous, festive feel outside at the Christmas shops. read more

I wouldn't compare this place to Starbucks, and I don't think the owners would either. This is a throwback to what Starbucks once was. Starbucks started as a locally roastery in Seattle, selling good fresh coffee in a welcoming atmosphere. Now Starbucks has become an massive retailer that is so inoffensive and impersonal it's stifling. When every painted wall and chair comes from the corporate cookie cutter, the best you can get is a cookie cutter conversation over your cookie cutter coffee. The Joint's a bit different. It's still youthful. The style is hip and modern and the music falls along the lines of Belle & Sebastian and Dinosaur Jr. The sandwiches on the menu are largely dependent on the ingredients that they've brought in that day. The owners will great you as if they known you forever. No one expects you to know about coffee, but I encourage you to ask about everything. The Joint is personal. Everyone working in that shop takes ownership of it in some way. They all put a little something in to make the place better, to make it succeed. Care goes in to it. The shop is crafted by artisans instead of plopped out of a conveyor belt. Let's not forget about why you came here in the first place: the coffee. The coffee is great. Every bag comes with it's roasted on date which generally falls within the last few weeks. This is big. Coffee freshness depends on time from roast, so if you want fresh coffee, this is the place for it. In case all that isn't incentive enough. The place is co-owned by the same people who run Blue Sky Cafe and Full of Crepe down on the South Side. I love hunting for coffee whilst traveling. Undoubtedly, I will be awake before my fiancé and I will have that old urge that I need to satisfy. There has always been something about taking a walk outside on a cold morning for a cup of coffee. Eagerly, I search Yelp looking for nearby coffee places when I stay at a hotel and I set my sights on one in particular. This last time, the scene was Bethlehem and the target, The Joint. Luckily, I saw a sign pointing me into a courtyard because otherwise, I was going to declare my mission a failure and go back for substandard Hyatt coffee. It was there, tucked around a small bend where I found The Joint. Another reviewer described it as the type of place that plays Dinosaur Jr. I'm pretty sure that's exactly what was playing when I walked in. It's a very small coffee shop with only about 4 tables. For such a small space though, they really had some nice product offerings. When I asked what he had brewed, up, he mentioned three varieties (which is more than most larger more equipped coffee places) I was given samples of all 3 and since I was buying coffee for two, I clearly needed to know the lay of the land. I settled on a drip african light roast and a peruvian pour-over for myself. Mind you, he had about 8 varieties that I could have chosen from with pour-over. I followed his recommendation because he seemed really excited to brew it. That's what I look for in a coffee shop. The coffee was good. Heck, it was very good. It's not difficult to make great coffee, but when it's done right, it's really rewarding. I took the coffee to go and enjoyed my caffeinating experience while in the Christmas City. Cons: limited seating, might be difficult to find (as in its not visually seen from the main road). Unsure: dont know if offers free wifi, not sure about the outlet situation if you needed to charge while you enjoy your coffee/eat. Ive been looking for a laid back coffee joint for some time now since moving to the east coast/this area. This will definitely be where i go on those rare days i get a morning/lunch off. Lousy service eclipsed pretty good coffee. Went in with my brother late morning on a Thursday (yesterday). He got something from the cooler, I ordered a latte. Guy behind the counter took my money then ??? 10+ minutes later (after the 2 people in front of me and the 1 person who came in after me had been served) the barista looked over to my empty table and asked if we had everything, at which point I had to give him all the details of my order again. Forgetting customers as soon as they step away from the counter (in a mostly empty shop) is not a good look. read more

Arrived at 7:50 am. We were the only people there when we walked in, but there were 3 others by the time we left. Since there was only one barista, our coffees took a few minutes, but we weren't in too much of a hurry. I had a vanilla lavender cappuccino that was really good. The temperature was a lot cooler than expected. It was definitely drinkable immediately but was barely warm within 10 minutes. I would request it hotter if I had known. There were Bagels on the menu but the gentleman at the counter said that he doesn't have them until 9:am. Cell service is terrible but I hear they have free wifi. I would visit again and tell others to try this place if they aren't in a hurry. read more

I'm not the first to post about this obscure location, where strategically placed sandwich boards and signs point the way to a courtyard with essentially no street visibility. But The Joint still seems to get a pretty steady stream of customers on notoriously sluggish Sunday afternoons. Coffee is confidently delivered, with drip, pour-over and cold brew options as well as a variety of espresso possibilities. Seasonal soups are memorable, which is saying something in an era when salt passes for "seasoned". Bagels are standard, but priced appropriately. And the hipster staff isn't chatty but is certainly friendly--something I'd be hard-pressed to find in the urban jungles of Philly or NYC. At this point, The Joint wins the award for the most solid local coffeeshop in the Lehigh Valley. It doesn't rock the boat in terms of the overall package (no real surprises) but it's lively and welcoming. Only real gripes: pretty lacking in the plug outlets, so it's not great if your aging laptop needs its own cuppa java (like mine does). And the weekend hours are fairly limited, but this is a minor complaint when the hours here are still better than most local coffee shops in the Valley. Maybe The Joint's virtually hidden storefront is an added cachet and I'm just slow to catch on? It wouldn't be the first time....duh. read more

Awesome experience! This was my first time visiting The Joint, after rave reviews from my friends. I ordered a 16 ounce Honeyccino with homemade lavender syrup, and it just took me on a journey sip after sip. The espresso came through nice and strong, while the honey perfectly rounded out the drink. I usually opt for Americanos, but with a name like Honeyccino, I just couldn't pass it up. I wasn't disappointed at all. I will definitely be returning in the near future. It's great that there's such an amazing alternative to the likes of Starbucks and Dunkin' Donuts, not to mention that the quality blows those guys out of the water. read more

This cute coffee shop is tucked away underneath a plaza and can be a little tricky to find. It has a warm and cozy ambiance with a chalkboard wall, string lights, local artwork on the walls, and throw pillows on the benches. If I was still a student, I would definitely come here to study. I wanted to love this place because the owner is a friend of a friend, but I wasn't impressed with my chai tea latte. It was too watered down for my liking. I was also a bit disappointed that they didn't have any baked goods as I usually like to pair my latte with a scone. read more
