This is my absolute favorite place to visit whenever I'm in the Bethlehem area and I make sure to tell anyone that visits the area to check this wonderful modern Italian restaurant. Their fresh and wonderfully prepared dishes make you feel like you're visiting a family that's making your food with love. The restaurant itself has such a cozy and intimate feel with the right amount of space and lighting. Had dinner here. Tre Scalini means three steps. Small intimate restaurant. Started with appetizers. Octopus , mozzerella, etc all very good. Dinner was eggplant parm, lemon pasta and a seafood pasta dish. All delicious. Dessert was pistachio cake (so light and delicious). Spoke to chef on the way out! Its definitely a go again! read more

Went to this small and very quaint Italian restaurant in Bethlehem for dinner. We were seated immediately and brought glasses of water. I immediately realized the waitresses were delightfully friendly. Their attitude made our dining experience even more enjoyable. It is a BYOB which is also a plus, so we were able to have our favorite wine with our food. I started with the Arugula salad which was fresh and seasoned with a nice dressing. For my entree, I ordered Capellini Bella Italia. Shrimp, Scallops and Crab meat in a scrumptious Brandy cream sauce. It was so good I couldn't stop eating it until my plate was clean. If you're planning to come on a weekend, call at least a week ahead--there are only a few tables and it's a popular spot for good reason. The menu is small, but every dish we tried was packed with flavor. They were out of mussels when we arrived (bummer!), but the mozzarella appetizer was so creamy it was almost like burrata. The bolognese was absolutely delicious... I genuinely considered ordering a second serving as dessert! Bonus points for being BYOB, which makes the whole experience even better. Found this hidden gem while searching for Italian food in the area. Definitely make reservations as this place was packed on a Wednesday night (although it is on the smaller side). Didn't take any photos of the food because I was too busy enjoying the meal with my family but the food was fantastic. Pasta cooked perfectly and the flavors were delicious, desserts too! Can't wait to come back and try more dishes. My only complaint is that it was on the noisy side which makes a little difficult for conversation but that can't really be helped. read more

We just had the pleasure of dining at Tre Scalini for the first time. Everything was fantastic. We had the arugula salad and the octopus for appetizers. The olive oil on the salad as well as the grilled bread started the meal. The octopus was like a steak and so tender. We had the cod special with spinach and blistered tomatoes. Delicious. The pappardelle pasta with browned mushroom was the bomb. The pasta was cooked perfectly. A nice bite. Mushrooms and truffle cream sauce made the dish perfect. We had the pistachio cake and coffee. The cake was light and creamy. We haven't had restaurant coffee that tasted so good. Our waitress was wonderful and informative. We weren't rushed. The food was terrible and very overpriced. The salad was effectively a handful of lettuce out of a Costco bag with two plastic cherry tomatoes on the side. And my college-aged daughter could have made a more flavorful pasta with a jar of sauce. Something was also off with the scallops - so terrible tasting my husband nearly spit it out. I did spit out a whole clove of garlic that was hidden in my pasta. Save yourself the time and money and get a jar of spaghetti sauce and some noodles and you will be better off. read more

The food and the service was awesome . Ambience was so comfortable felt like you were in your Nonna's living room. The staff were extremely accommodating and pleasant . We were a party of 6 and everyone was complementary to their food choices . We had the barbecue octopus as well as the mushroom ravioli appetizers which were so delicious. We all ordered different pasta dishes and shared the ribeye and the Cod special which was seasoned to perfection. Definitely a place we will return again. Great BYOB place for Italian. The warm bread to start is perfect- tempting to fill up. Arugula salad and house salad each come with a mountain of fresh greens. Grilled octopus starter is one of the best versions I've ever had in a restaurant- tender and perfectly cooked tentacles. Occasional specials are worth checking out, especially if mushroom ravioli are one of the options. Choosing one pasta from list is nearly impossible. Lemon spaghetti, Pasta Verde (basil and mint pesto w/ shrimp) are both delish- perfectly cooked noodles, flavorful sauces. I came here on a Saturday night with my sister, reservations are a must. We arrived early and we were still seated promptly. The service was excellent, the hostess and the server were very attentive and always ensuring that we had everything that we needed throughout our dinner service. We started with the eggplant appetizer which was delicious. Then we shared the seafood cappellini pasta dish which was also very good. Last we shared the ribeye steak with balsamic glaze, this was absolutely fantastic and my favorite dish of the evening! If you're looking for authentic Italian this is your spot. A revisit to Tre Scalini for our 48th wedding anniversary. Food was better than ever! We had a salad, the eggplant appetizer, the antipasto, and the mushroom pappardelle. Everything was delicious! My husband, who isn't crazy about this pappardelle, thought it was better than ever before! I always love it, but I noticed a difference too. It was less creamy and had more mushrooms. I loved all of it!!! If you're in the area, it's a must try. By the way, it was packed. They are always booked solid on weekends. I can't enough GREAT things about Tre Scalini. The first great thing is it's BYOB. I love to bring well made local wine I bought to a restaurant. It's the closest thing to enjoying it in your home and you're not overpaying for it in a restaurant. They open for you (for free) and will provide a cooler for it. The second great thing is the food. I've been here three times now and my wife has been five times. The food is consistently delicious each time, from salad and bread to the pasta to the desserts. The third great thing is the atmosphere. It's small, dimly lit (in a good way), and comfortable. It doesn't get loud really, depending on the crowd around you. A perfect date night or night out with a few friends. We dined with six people this most recent time and we're the biggest party there. Must make reservations! We just love this place. Went again last night with a small group and unanimous that it's the best Italian restaurant in the Lehigh Valley. Specializing in homemade pasta, every dish I've tried on the menu has been awesome. Had the Bucatini last night and it was superb. It can get a little loud on weekends but the atmosphere is ideal and it's incredibly affordable for the high quality of the food and since it's BYOB. Would give it six stars if I could. read more

Very intimate setting and small business touch. I agree with other reviews that stated this felt like it was in someone's house. There is parking out back. The tables are spaced appropriately for distancing. The staff was very friendly and this is a BYOB restaurant. The food was delicious as well. Had the pasta with seafood which came out hot, fresh and delicious! There was the right amount of sauce and ingredients. Woman called back to confirm. Showed up at the restaurant at that exact date and time and they had no mention of us. Tre Scalini is GREAT. As someone who used to live in Italy, I don't really like going to Italian restaurants, but I'd heard good things about Tre Scalini and wanted to give it a try. It's a quaint BYOB and mamma mia, does it deliver on the food! We had 2 appetizers: the barbecued octopus and the pear with gorgonzola and they were both fantastic. I then had the rigatoni alla norma which had an amazingly well-flavored sauce, and my fiance had one of the specials that night, which was a seafood cannelloni-- it was also great, but I was happy to like my chosen dish even more. No shortage of clientele here but of a certain age we we're the youngest on a Saturday (we're middle aged) So.... just know if you're used to places like Oak, Ocean or Top Cut you're most likely not going to be wowed here, but you will have a nice meal akin to a pleasant dinner at someone's home (basically said this on their website) but way too expensive for what it is. Steak w/ arugula.... that's it. Big emphasis on charring. Whole octopus tentacle charred...not appetizing to us. This is not a repeat for me. read more

We got a gift certificate to Tre Scalini for our 50th anniversary. What a hidden treasure. My Italian friend I asked wasn't familiar with it. It is a small restaurant but AUTHENTIC food. Tables mostly for 2 or 4 seatings. BYOB. The smell entering was Italian and welcoming. My husband is a dessert addict. He had the bread and said he'd have more bread if there wasn't dessert for him. We shared the Mozzarella Napoleone and knew we'd found a new favorite restaurant. If you don't want to get full and have a table of four, split the pepper and mozzarella appetizers for a large "taste". It is memorable. Mozzarella so light and fluffy. I had never experienced. I got the Capellini Bella Italia with seafood and rosa sauce. I love Henri's Seafood. This was a lighter version and so fresh and just as flavorful. My husband got the Tre Scalini Bolognese and said he'd never had better pasta. The Bolognese was hit. Our waitress was a lovely person and very welcoming. Hands down Tre Scalini is the real deal , authentic Italian food approved by this New Yorker now living in the area. Last night was my fourth body here. The ambiance and food was amazing. Love the intimate and super charming italian restaurant! The service was amazing and the food was good . They serve freshly baked bread complimentary with olive oil. We had the arugula salad for appies. The arugula was fresh and had that bittery bite that i chase after. Then we ordered the Wild Boar Tagliatelle and the mushroom tagliatelle. Both were flavorful and delicious. The pasta was so so fresh and cooked just right. The portions were just right. While I enjoyed both dish, I found that the mushroom dish was a bit oily, and I was expecting a stronger truffle flavor, not just doused in some oil infused with truffle. The dessert was delicious - although not made inhouse, the chef orders the Sicilian Cassata Cake from Brooklyn New York, from a really authentic Sicilian bakery. Great place. Great chef and host (which I believe is husband and wife). This is not your typical "pizza Italian" food place where you get enough in one pasta dish to feed 2 people, but might lack in quality. Tre Scalini quantity is appropriate, but the taste phenomenal. I suspect the pasta is homemade...it might be the perfect texture that I've ever had in my life (even on my trips to Italy itself). Always BYOB, and during Covid we got Take out / Take away.....was just as good. It isn't cheap per se........and although they are very friendly, I don't know that I'd take my family here, it's more of a date night type place. Favorites we've had are the Spaghetti Alla Grici and the Tre Scalini Bolognese (and note on that, the pasta homemade above is from the Bolognese). BTW, the restaurant blends into the neighborhood, you could drive right past it without knowing...but there is a lot out back to park in (which is kind of down a small alley). Tre Scalini is a great restaurant to celebrate birthdays or anniversaries. The main dining area is lit with candles, really romantic setting. The service here was excellent and all the staff were really friendly. For the appetizers we tried the octopus and the arugula salad. I personally wasn't the biggest fan of the octopus but it was cooked well, just a very large serving which can be overwhelming especially if you don't eat it often. We wanted to try the mussels but they were out for the night so if you have your eye on those, try to get an earlier reservation. The pastas were the highlight of our meal, I had the Linguine Al Limone which was a delicious citrus flavor and we also had the Bucatini Amatriciana which was equally delicious. The best part is it's BYOB so bring your favorite bottle of wine to enjoy with your meal. We finished off our meal with pistachio cake, if they have it this is a must order. read more

Have had family tell me how good this place was for a few years. We finally were able to make it. Super nice staff with Julia waiting on us. She was informative and enjoyed our company to insure we felt welcomed. The arugula salads were large and full of taste. The grilled octopus was good. I had never heard of Tre Scalini until I went with my friend last night. It's a very tiny restaurant with about two seatings per night, so you need to make reservations. The exterior is very unassuming and it blends in with other houses on the block (my Uber driver passed it before we figured out where it was). We spent almost three hours there. The food is amazing, the service is amazing, the decor is lovely and cozy. My friend had the octopus to start, followed by the pappardelle con funghi. She and her husband have been here many times, and this is her go-to meal. I started with the arugula salad and had the rigatoni alla Norma for my entree. This food was just incredible. High-quality ingredients, perfectly seasoned, perfectly-cooked pasta. The bread and olive oil accompanying the meal were so delicious - I could have eaten that for three hours and still left happy. We finished the meal by sharing a chocolate-hazelnut torte, which was light but intensely flavorful. Please note this restaurant is BYOB. We brought a selection of beer - which the staff offered to chill and open for us - and my friend has brought wine and scotch to past visits.
