Space is very limited so I would recommend booking ahead of time, I didn't see any open tables and there is no space to stand and wait for a table, as a forewarning! The food: the complimentary bread was burnt in areas and the waitress forgot to bring it out for us until we reminded her about 20 mins later. Dishes are brought out at a leisurely pace, I would probably estimate about at least 20-30 mins waiting for apps, and then another 20 for our entrees? The bbqed octopus was tender, but there was a slimy thread attached to some of the pieces and parts were so charred it tasted bitter. You do get a generous portion though but we didn't finish it due to the taste. The main courses were delicious. My SO proclaimed that his pesto dish had the best pesto sauce he ever had (bold statement coming from someone who has the emotional range of a rock when it comes to food) I ordered the popular funghi pasta which was very rich and flavorful, the only downside was how INCREDIBLY salty it was. I love me my sodium but this was on another level. Again, very very amazing flavors. BYOB was a very nice welcome and it seems like most people took advantage of this perk. read more

Absolutely phenomenal. The food and service were top notch. Did not feel like you were sitting off broad st, rather, somewhere in Italy in your Nona's house waiting for dinner. My parents brought me and my sisters here one night after remembering that they didn't want to make anything for dinner. They had talked the place up so much that I was wondering if it was going to live up to the expectations I had already made. I am very happy to report that it did live up to expectations! We got a few of the appetizers - some fresh ravioli, an eggplant dish, and the mussels. All delicious! For entrees, we each got our own pasta dishes off of the main menu and my parents got the fish special for the day. I think they ordered those options because they were trying to be remotely healthy but hey we're out to eat, might as well enjoy it! Besides, they definitely had food envy of my mushroom pasta dish. This place is super quaint, an old house converted into a restaurant, a BYOB, and all over quality. This is probably the most difficult restaurant experience I've ever evaluated. There were so many wonderful things, and so many unusual happenings. I will cover them all. My evaluation of the fantastic food will come at the end. Their policy of "No split checks" caused me social embarrassment. I was not free to order what I wanted knowing that I would cover my bill. At a table of nine persons, I had to guess who was going to grab this big check. I had to evaluate every person's order to keep in line with the norms established. Our host was stressed due the fact that we were there for his wife's funeral the next day, so I just laid low and dealt with the finances later. My niece and nephew were not there when I arrived. They "out running an errand", but no one said what that was. When they had returned, they had bottles of wine. Oh. The restaurant is dry, but you can bring your own. I did check the website but either missed that point or it was not clear. Well, there it is, clear as day on the search engine, but not on the home page. More social embarrassment as I sat and had to wait for the generosity of a family member to offer me some of theirs. Entering place is a challenge. I thought you needed a secret password. On arrival, I tried the door at the main entrance on the street side. Locked, but I could see customers inside. I jiggled the handle to get some attention but that was ineffective. I texted my host. Oh! you have to come around the BACK entrance. Again, if there was a sign on the front door, it was hidden or I missed it. Our host may have had something to do with the next experience, but it took over an hour to get our food order. While I fully appreciated the family reunion aspect, I was hungry. Then again, this casual table time is typical of some Italian restaurants and the heritage of our host. But I was hungry. But there were no awkward periods in the discussion while we waited. Our table was right in the draft caused by the secret entrance door in the back being left open. Now!, on to the food, and it was excellent - quite possibly a five star rating unto itself. The salad was good as most are. We were handed menus with many more options than were on the website. That was nice, but now I had to renegotiate with myself as to exactly what to order based on the new options and remain in the ordering patterns of my group. I finally settled on the oversized mushroom ravioli with truffle cream sauce. Pasta was cooked perfectly and really seemed to be made on premises. Truffle aroma filled the air as my plate was placed in front of me, and I was hoping it was not offensive and a prediction of a sauce that was unbalanced. I was wrong. The sauce was perfectly balanced unto itself and a great compliment to the filling. Another great point is that there was the perfect amount of sauce. I did not have be stingy to make it last, nor was there a huge puddle to figure out what to do with, either. Our server was very knowledgeable and offered accurate information about the desserts. Amazing food! Visited this restaurant for the first time on Valentine's Day. I would have given this place a 5 star as the food was tasty and flavorful. However for the $$ amount I paid it lacked presentation. Not really complaining but I would have liked it better if it would have been served in a decorative way considering the price I'm paying for the portion size (which is considerably small). I am from here but now live in Redondo Beach Ca and at home am surrounded by Italian restaurants, but as I bit into my carbonara I was blown away with the unbelievable flavors. We came in and saw MULTIPLE empty tables and were turned away due to reservations. As I sit on the parking lot I see more and more people leaving a no one coming in. Customer service goes a long way. The blend of flavors and the quality of ingredients is outstanding. Stopped here on a weekday and the place was pretty empty, making the experience that much better. I love this place. Sometimes I go into NYC for an event and come back here to eat rather than dining in the city: Chef Santo's food is that good. The simple arugula salad with shaved parm, a mozzarella Napoleone; the delicious arrays of pasta (Gorgonzola-walnut purses with Gorgonzola cream sauce, mushroom ravioli); fresh fish specials are always superb (snapper with broccoli rabe and outrageously good scallop and shrimp cannelloni) ... the list goes on so you better just come in and taste for yourself. Was looking forward to it based on great reviews, but it let me down. What didn't I like? FIrst, the place is small which is fine but very very loud, difficult to hold a conversation. It was somewhat pricey, not deserving of the YELP 2 $$ symbol as billed. Bill for 4 at this BYOB establishment was over 160 with tip. Service was slow, it took over an hour for our entrees to arrive. Stumbled upon this place looking for a BYOB Italian restaurant. It was a bit pricier than I was looking for that night but my friend and I didn't mind since the food was amazing! Saving on spending for wine with our meal always helps. For this reason I love the BYOB places. The menu is limited but fine with me. Make a few things but make them well is what I say! The food came out piping hot and was totally fresh, it was quite evident. There are a few seafood/pasta dishes on the menu which is great is you like seafood. My friend or I do not eat seafood and yet we had no trouble finding something to order, in fact I couldn't make up my mind. The place is small and quaint, and we had a friendly server. Update. Just returned from 11 days in Italy. We started with 2 nights in Venice and went on to Florence for 2 nights, then down to Rome for 3 nights and finally 3 nights in Sorrento. Using Yelp and recommendations from friends and our guide, we ate 22 meals at 22 different places. NOT A SINGLE MEAL IN THAT ENTIRE COUNTRY WOULD BE WORTH A SLOT ON TRES SCALINi's MENU. We tried to find the right lemon pasta dish, the right carbonara dish, the right fungi dish but to no avail. Santo's menu reflects every part of Italy we visited and his food is so much more refined, so much more flavorful, and so much more delicious. So, back to my previous review ... Been back many times now. Many times. Tried everything on the menu and continue to be impressed. Tonight, I went crazy and had the halibut special and ate every last bite. Light, perfectly cooked and served over spinach, it had the most delicate sauce, juices really, that set it off perfectly. We've come to know most of the staff including. Brought a customer here on Tuesday for dinner. It's a very nice place with a great ambiance and nice decor. We ordered the mozzarella and roasted pepper w a balsamic reduction for an app. It was good, it looked like burrata, so i asked if it was in fact mozzarella. She wasn't quite sure but turned out to be buffalo mozzarella. My customers dish was good, riggies w peas and a creame sauce. I got the homemade parrpadel w bolognese sauce. I have to remind myself that a sauce like this, or lasagna, things of that nature are not made fresh. The are made and then put in fridge or freezer until ordered. The sauce was just ok, way to thick w what seemed like meatball chunks in it. Not a fan... and the parrpadel was not wide enough and way to thick. I'd be more selective about what I ordered next time. Nice place, nice place, ok food and pricey. I wouldn't cross it off the list. read more

What a great dinner. Diced seafood and cheeses in a pasta wrap. That was my dish. Not sure what it was called, but it was delicious. The artichoke ravioli and octopus appetizers were killer. BYOB, which I love... Came with a party of eight after my daughter's confirmation on a Wednesday night. The place was half full. One server on the floor doing a fantastic job, very personable, helpful, and accommodating. Atmosphere intimate and even though it's one small room and we were right next to the kitchen and serving station, it never felt uncomfortable. Nobody had a single negative comment on this dining experience. If I had to try to criticize, I would say the menu is limited. Pasta dishes... but that is what you are coming here for. The most delicious pasta dishes. But if your not, there is a fish entree or a steak entree... Dessert menu also limited. We ordered a chocolate mousse cake and pistachio cream cake to split. Along with our bottle of red, we shared an arugula salad and these amazing little pasta "purses" (hope they're always available!) and for dinner, a lobster ravioli dish with a light tomato cream sauce and halibut with sauteed spinach, both of which were outstanding! A fabulous charming Italian restaurant located in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. The second you walk in the door you feel as if you were in Tuscany. The food is superb. So delicious! The restaurant is quaint and cozy but can get a bit warm so wear layers that you can take off if you get hot quickly. The food is the best. We tried the bucatini, rigatoni and pappardelle. All were mouth watering but the pappardelle was our favorite, it was so rich, smooth and did not have the overpowering truffle taste that some dishes can have. We also tried the rib eye but parts were a bit fatty and they pre cut the meat for you. FYI getting a reservation can be a bit tricky so call as early as you can! read more

The reviews of this little gem seemed improbable. This is a truly, genuine Italian at its best on a small street in a wonderful small town in the middle of Pennsylvania. It is warm, but gently elegant on the ground floor of a town house -- but we came in last minute very casual in shorts and collar shirts and felt right at home. We could not have been greeted more warmly, and the menu was as lifted from a great Roman trattoria with classics like home made bolognese and beef steak. But the staple like the bolognese was beautiful, rich but with home made pasta light as a feather. The Amatriciana was a perfect combination of spices, bacon and San Marzano tomatoes. Even the house salad was garnished with a think, local balsamic vinegar you rarely find in the States. Their specials -- four or five of them -- were a superb mix of home made pasta with mushrooms and a swordfish grill ted splendidly. They had a limoncello tart for desert which was sublime. The only draw back, such as it is, is that this lovely place is BYOB. So come forewarned and packing something special.
