Was visiting Allentown for a wedding and needed a quick breakfast sandwich. I found La Vida Cafe from a Google search. It was really easy to get to and spot! The people were so kind and friendly! The seating was cute and comfortable. I thought their pricing was reasonable. I wasn't crazy about my sandwich. I ordered the Rose Garden. I guess when I saw Texas Toast, I thought it would it would be a bit different. The pesto was pretty salty too. Pretty average sandwich not bad though. read more

I don't know how busy this place gets in rush hour,but at 10 am on a Wednesday,it was the perfect spot to meet up with a couple of friends who'd just arrived from out of town. It's an inviting space that is impeccably clean with friendly staff,fair pricing and quality offerings. I had a grilled cheese on Texas toast with a Berry Matcha Latte. All was delicious. Ordered delivery from La Vida Cafe and was immediately disappointed when an item was missing. But what really got me was the price, almost $70 for a coffee, peanut butter and flan Assisi for my daughter, fries, and a Cuban sandwich. For that price, I expected something top-tier, but the food was just okay at best. The fries portion was laughably small.....maybe nine fries total, and the Cuban sandwich was bland, lacking the bold flavors you'd expect. Overall, not the best experience, especially for the cost. This was elevated to another level entirely by adding their cilantro aioli! I swear you could put this aioli on almost anything and it would be good. La Vida Cafe has a cool coffee shop vibe. And it's a great place to have breakfast or lunch. They make breakfast sandwiches, omelets, salads, panini sandwiches and other treats. Thai Salad with housemade dressing for lunch was very good. Nitro Cold Brew Coffee hit the spot on a warm summer day. Tried one of the custard pastries, Pastel de Nata, which was quite a treat. Flavorful, filling, and perfection. My friend and I both had two different salad (I forget what I had and I didn't take a picture) - maybe the southwest? But I just know that it was delicious and filling. So filling is theme, you'll be satisfied and full! The only thing I wished I had more of was the dressing. Finally!! A cafe in the Lehigh Valley with good coffee *and* good food! The pastel de natas here are phenomenal, and the breakfast sandwiches are great too. They have fancy espresso drinks as well as plain drip coffee. Plus, everyone who works here is super friendly and welcoming. Great spot to work, to have meetings, or just to grab a bite to go. I was in the area looking for coffee and was originally headed to Starbucks when I stumbled into this cafe. It has an inviting atmosphere and friendly staff. The food is made quickly, tastes fresh, and is so satisfying! They have something for everybody on their menu. My breakfast bagel was much more filling and delicious and paired with a better coffee compared to anything that I would've gotten at Starbucks while costing me about the same. If you want Tacos and it's a Tuesday, and you happen to be in Allentown, Cafe Vida can help you. The tacos come in sets of two for 8.50-- this isn't on their menu. I ordered one chicken and one beef. (I heard there was a third vegetarian option.) The pulled chicken is drizzled with an unknown sauce mixed with the usual taco fixings of chopped romaine and diced tomatoes that sit on top of a flakey fried tortilla. The beef tasted like the same meat as philly cheesesteaks, which if you've had a good one, it's decently greasy in a it-tastes-good-now-but-you'll-feel-it-later way. If you're not too messy of an eater, these tacos will stay intact between bites-- they'll just be a little drippy. I am biased compared to the average person, wish the sandwich had more meat. Especially with whatever pastrami they use it is top notch. The ciabatta bread was fresh and just the right amount of crispy with a rich sauce and onions. The ratio of ingredients had the pastrami coming in very subtly while I prefer a stronger taste, especially when the meat is good like this. Was thrown in some extra fries free that were amazing! Hot, well, seasoned, thick, & crunchy, for $4 def worth it. Tried their cilantro & chipotle sauce made in house def recommend! A True Coffee Lover's Haven! I recently stumbled upon the most delightful coffee shop I know of in Allentown, PA, and I couldn't wait to share my experience! When I entered La Vida Café, the warm and welcoming staffs greeted me immediately. The team at La Vida Café epitomizes hospitality and passion; their genuine smiles and friendly demeanor set the tone for the remainder of my day- HAPPY! The atmosphere of this coffee shop is enchanting. The warm and cozy interior, adorned with rustic wooden furniture, a pillow cushion, window silk, red and black hues, and soft lighting, creates an inviting ambiance that instantly puts you at ease. They also support local artists as well. I adored the painting of the Mermaid done by a 13 yrs old artist whose story about overcoming homelessness is inspiring. A friend recommended "The Steve" (a panini), and I was not disappointed; you could taste the freshness in every bit, and the coffee was so good. I appreciate that the coffee beans at La Vida Café are locally roasted and distributed; however, I can't wait for La Vida Café to expand into the international coffee bean market. Every city that can call itself a "city" needs a coffee shop that makes you feel like you're in a bona fide urban environment. And in Allentown (Pennsylvania's 3rd biggest city--a distant third after Fluffya and PGH) that place is Café Vida. Sure, Allentown's got a nice little Greenwich Village wannabe at Hava Java, but that place feels more like an insiders' club. Vida is lively, true to its name, and friendly to strangers. The smart, urbane setting is of-the-moment: yes, it's got those tungsten-filament dangling bulbs in mason jars. The small stairs help break the space, but it's still wheelchair friendly (w/ two entrance doors). In ten years it may look faded, but right now it's upbeat even when things are slow. The coffee leans toward self-serve (three hot drip brews and a nitro) and, while not earth-shattering, certainly doesn't disappoint. I admit I haven't tried the paninis, but the yogurt mixes seem like a solid value for some good 'gurt, and they're not too sweet. Outside of the peak meal hours, Vida doesn't get a great deal of slow-pace business, and that may have to do with some techie shortcomings: wifi isn't very good, and plugs aren't easy to come by. This may be a deliberate effort to deter the lingerers like me, but the seating arrangements often encourage laptop work, so why not offer the infrastructure to back it up? I hope Cafe Vida can shine another full year as construction in downtown Allentown intensifies, bringing with it the population density that will encourage longer business hours. A place that looks and tastes this good deserves a place in the downtown Allentown pantheon. read more
