Tapas on Main is a tapas bar and restaurant that opened in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania in May 2011. It was founded by restaurateurs and business partners Juan Carlos Paredes and chef Rafael Palomina. Both hailing from Bogota, Colombia, the two partners own a number of restaurants both separately and together. With Tapas on Main, they brought authentic Spanish-inspired dishes to downtown Bethlehem. In February 2015, when the unit next door became available, the partners opened a French-style bistro dubbed Cachette Bistro + Creperie. With both eateries adjacent to each other, they can share the same kitchen and liquor license; it makes for easy management. Palomina serves as the executive chef for both establishments, while Luis Abundez serves as the chef de cuisine. My family and I visited Tapas on Main and Cachette Bistro + Creperie this past summer while we were visiting relatives in the area. We stopped by while exploring Main Street and it looked like a cool place to get brunch. Although we were all seated in Cachette's dining room, the staff said that we were allowed to order anything from either establishment's menu. For drinks, I ordered a "Limoncello Spritz" while my wife had a "French 75". For food, I had the "Smoked Salmon Benedict" (two poached eggs, smoked salmon, sautéed spinach, bacon crumbles and hollandaise over English muffins), my wife had the "Huevos Rancheros Crepe" (two fried eggs, chorizo, pico de Gallo, cilantro rice, black beans, jack cheese), and our sons shared the "French Toast" (fresh bananas & strawberries, maple syrup). We visited this spot for brunch as a group of eight. We made a reservation online in advance, though calling is also an option. The service was excellent, and our waiter was friendly. However, the food was brought out as it was ready rather than all at once, which made for an odd dining experience--some people received their meals much earlier than others. It would have been better if the food arrived together so no one had to wait while others ate or risk their meal getting cold. Our granddaughter wanted a croissant. The disc did charming and beyond croissants there were so many lovely options that I had high hopes. However, I was disappointed by the lack of flexibility in accommodating dietary needs. I requested a dish without onion (allergies), but the chef was unable to adapt even a simple option. They offered a salad, but unfortunately, even the dressing contained onion. On the bright side, the bread basket was fantastic--fresh, flavorful, and truly the highlight of my granddaughter's day. While I appreciated the effort of the staff, I had hoped for a bit more creativity and adaptability in the kitchen. This is a lovely spot if you have no dietary restrictions, but it may not be the best choice for those needing modifications. read more

I really wanted to enjoy this restaurant, and the freshly made lemonade was delicious. But the food just wasn't good. My Mexicano crepe lacked flavor as well as any trace of cheddar cheese or black beans. My wife had the Californian, and it tasted as awful as it looked. Instead of mushrooms, kale, and red peppers her crepe appeared to be stuffed with puréed baby food. Perhaps that's the intent but it was not indicated on the menu. She tried to eat it but simply couldn't. We were in a hurry and unfortunately didn't have time to discuss our experience with the manager. I hope others have a much better meal. read more

I came here for dessert with my boyfriend a few nights ago and we didn't have the best experience. We both wanted something sweet after dinner and thought a crepe sounded delicious. We took a seat outside and waited almost 10 minutes for our server to come to our table. When our waitress finally came back to our table, we ordered the Nutella banana and strawberry crepe with a hot chocolate. The hot chocolate came about 15 minutes before the crepe did which was a little annoying. The hot chocolate was very good and we did enjoy it but it was a bit over priced. The crepe came after waiting almost 25-30 minutes and it was room temperature which meant that it had been sitting out waiting to come to the table. It was cold but the presentation was very nice. It was packed with bananas and strawberries which was a nice touch but the fact that it was cold made it extremely disappointing. Overall, I would not return to this Creperie because it was nothing to write home about. Mediocre at best. read more

We used to love this place and the connected Tapas on Main restaurant but over several years the place has gone down with food and service and the prices way up and just not worth it. We come for the Arugula salad and add from there. The arugula salad on Sunday was a salad of weeds without leaves and plenty of stems actually going to seed! Gross! The baked goat cheese circle shrunk considerably. We added chicken. This is the first time that we had more chicken in proportion to arugula leaves. We ordered French cheese Mac and Cheese and had to ask for salt and pepper to have a form of taste. It pasta water and tasteless cheese. The hostess today was nice and was the only highlight but over the years they were a bunch of unfriendly brats that were sent to "work". This restaurant is no longer our favorite and they have lost us after several years of patronage. read more

Of the options available to you on Main, this place isn't bad. Atmosphere has a rustic feel with hardwood floors and kitschy antiques throughout with random French sayings plastered on the walls. There's a tapa restaurant next door (same owners). The best description of the crepes is nonoffensive. We had the savory crepes called "the Italiano" and the "Californian". No, we weren't at a Subway (the St. Germaine sign reminded me). My "Italiano" was as you'd imagine. Mozzarella, basil, tomatoes and the simplest sauce I've ever had in my life. It was the PBJ on white bread of crepes. It was fine but I could literally feel my tastebuds screaming for any semblance of flavor. None to be found. Service was fine. Restrooms are remarkably interesting and Kitschy. I'd go back if i had to and wanted something light on my stomach. read more

We had a 7:15 reservation, and showed up on time. Five other tables were seated after us, and 3 of those tables had their orders taken and food arrived before our orders were even taken. Our orders weren't taken until 8:15 and our food didn't arrive until 8:45. Then we asked for our check at 9:00, and we finally got our check back at 9:30. The dessert crepes here are excellent. However some of the savory options are lackluster. You definitely get a lot for the price though! The Cuban crepe was stuffed FULL which is great, decent taste but big portion. French onion soup here is really good, the goat cheese toast was a nice starter. Cachette Bistro & Creperie, and the connected Tapas on Main, is easily one of my favorite dining spots in Bethlehem (And I've traversed many eateries). The experience starts with the atmosphere which is immersive to the theme of each restaurant, although a little bit dark for my preference. The food, however, exceeds all expectations. This restaurant is perfect for dinner (I recommend the Housemade Frites, and know the Garlic Shrimp is a favorite among my friends), dessert (Crepes of course), or drinks. When it comes to drinks, Sangria is the most popular option. Personally, Sangria is not my favored drink, but I'm determined to try all their varieties before I write it off. When I say varieties, I mean many flavors which change with the season. Something I didn't know originally is that you can order any of their great options to go, just call ahead and pick it up at the bar. While I prefer dining in and embracing the atmosphere, I love to grab their Chicken-Kale Mac & Cheese for a nice night in. Overall, if you're dining on Main Street this combination restaurant is the place to go. Tapas has all the best flavors of Spain, while Cachette transports you to France. Cachette, a French term that means "hiding place," reminded me a lot of the intimate chic restaurants that adorn my favorite place on Earth- New York City. Very quaint with its delicate touches and laid back atmosphere. The restaurant has a rustic sophistication to it without feeling pretentious. The co-owners, Chef Palomino and Juan Carlo, along with their management and staff, know how to treat guests in their space. My cousin and I visited this restaurant on their first day of business and upon speaking with the owners and staff (Lauren- the manager and Bekah- our sever), we felt like we had dined there several times before. I made reservations prior to arriving, however, they were not necessary, as the restaurant did not advertise their soft opening. With that in mind, they still had a sizeable number of patrons who wanted to try the newest eatery on Main Street. Once we sat down we decided to try several plates to get a good feel for what their menu had to offer. The menu prices are attractively reasonable- ranging from $3.95 to $11.95. We started our meal by sampling the Olive Tapenade from the "Small Plates and Sandwiches" section of the menu. This was the only thing we ordered that I was not crazy about. Albeit good, however, the flavor seemed a bit off to me and I couldn't really put my finger on it as to what it was... The Arugula Salad was incredible. Fresh, crisp greens that were coated lightly with tasty Champagne Mustard Vinaigrette dressing. Mix in the melt in your mouth goat cheese and crunchy almond slices and you've got a very flavorful and delicious salad. Next time I go I will definitely get this with the grilled chicken or Shrimp option. Next, we ordered The Mexican and The Miami Savory Crepes. The Mexican Crepe had juicy chipotle pulled chicken, fresh tomatoes, cheddar, sour cream, black beans, and salsa verde. Overall, the flavors were pleasant, however, I felt that a little corn and some traditional fresh salsa would have taken this crepe to the next level. The Miami was sheer perfection. Diced sautéed shrimp, perfectly cooked quinoa, melted gruyère cheese, and garlic aoili...it doesn't get much better than that! Okay, I lied, it does get better. We decided to try the French Burger. A tender and succulent mix of angus, brisket and short rib meats. Cooked to juicy perfection and topped with thin crispy apple slices and gruyere cheese. House-made fries lightly sprinkled with sea salt and a smoked bacon aioli accompanied the burger on its cutting board plate. Lastly, we ordered The Classic Crepe. It was my cousin's birthday so they brought it out with a candle on it, along with a birthday serenade from one of the talented kitchen staff members. His voice was quite powerful and enjoyable- not what we expected to hear when he approached our table. It was a pleasant surprise! The crepe was a proportionate combination of Nutella, strawberries, and banana. The Classic was the perfect compliment to a deliciously satisfying meal. Plus, who doesn't like Nutella?! I enjoyed a late lunch here on a Tuesday afternoon around 2:30. The devil on my shoulder told me to order a mocha... The angel said to ask about lower calorie options. The server explained that they had no other options except skim milk and had no sugar-free syrups... The devil made me order it anyway. It came out scalding hot! I was able to enjoy it after my meal. And they definitely give you enough. It was a huge coffee mug... The size of a soup bowl. For lunch I had the Croque Madame. It was served open faced on a slice of brioche with an Apple frisée salad on top. It was delicious, but if I ever order it again, I will request my eggs not be so well done. Skeptical about this place because of the Yelp ratings. But, we love Tapas next door and we heard they are the same owners so we tried it. The Croque Madame that I ordered had a dirty sliced apple on top that still had the stem and label on the skin. It was gross. I can appreciate the rustic look to foods but this was poor presentation and careless. I ate around the dirty apple slices...the flavor was good. My friends ordered savory crepes and the flavors were good and on the bland side. Overall, disappointed. Won't be back. Adorable creperie in the heart of Bethlehem. I started off with hot chocolate which was frothy and delicious. I guess the menu changes every now and then because I couldn't find the Miami crepe that a lot of yelp users recommended. I opted for the classic sweet crepe which consists of bananas, strawberries, and Nutella with a creme anglaise drizzle. It wasn't overly sweet and I very much enjoyed it. My friend ordered the lox box crepe with smoked salmon, capers, red onions, and a dill cream drizzle. He thought the red onions were overpowering and preferred my dish over his. We also shared a French onion soup, which wasn't on their menu, but we knew they served it thanks to fellow yelpers. The one time I dined in the manager (?) gave me attitude when I let him know there was literal dirt on the lettuce in my salad. Food tastes spoiled. Eggs were raw. I honestly have no idea how this place is still open. The owners should really figure out how to make one restaurant run well before they continue opening up others. read more

The food was ok; not great. My chicken crepe was not very flavorful, but my son liked his crepe and the baked Camembert cheese was good. Unfortunately the service was disappointing. The best way I could characterize it is to say that the server seemed disinterested. He forgot to place our order for the Camembert. An honest mistake and he apologized for it, and we had it after rather than before our crepes. That was fine, but his flat affect and slow pace revealed...well...disinterest. When the Camembert arrived and he had already taken away our silverware, so we had to ask for new silverware. Rather than give us each a knife and fork, we each got a complete napkin pack bringing the table's elegant napkin total to 4 for 2 people. Then we had to ask for plates since the Camembert was served on one serving platter. We had to ask for the check multiple times and it was very slow moving, especially since there were only two other occupied tables inside the restaurant and multiple servers. Finally, and I gotta say this is really a pet peeve of mine, we were charged for every soda refill. Two thoughts about this: first, is it nor reasonable to say that today's norm is that restaurants offer free refills? It's fine if a restaurant diverts from this common practice but if they do, I think it's incumbent on the server to make this clear before offering to refill your drink! Second, if you're going to charge for refills, it is pretty tacky to serve each $2 drink in a small 6 oz. glass filled top to bottom with ice. The net yield of actual soda in a single drink might've been 2 oz., or $1 for a shot of soda. This nickel and dime approach to generating income is tiresome. read more

Very nicely decorated space and nice staff. We were very pleased with our apps (the brie was delicious and the olive tapenade very good.) However our entrees then came out far too quickly after receiving our apps. Not only were we now feeling rushed to finish but there's not enough room at the small 2-tops for 2 app plates/planks, 2 entree plates, 2 waters (with bottle) and 2 wines. The crepes themselves were large, well presented and nicely flavored however the interior fillings were just barely lukewarm, not hot (although the crepes themselves were hot.) Another oddity that put me off was that they have wrapped the hot water pipes on the wall with rope. It's a very cute stylistic detail with one major downside -- IT SMELLS, people. Seriously, there is no way I'm the first one to notice this. The smell of heated rope, how to explain it... Kind of like burnt cumin? Or maybe hemp and dirt? Or that hippie friend in college who wore the dirty Baja pullover and patchouli oil? Either way it's distinctive and gets in your nose when you're sitting next to the pipe and, therefore, seeps into the way your brain perceives the taste of your food. I'm sure they'll do nicely on Main St. regardless. read more

I don't even know where to begin. Cachette, located in Bethlehem, is one of very few, if not the only, French Bistro in the area that claims to be "authentic." Having lived in France for a while and being a French speaker, I was so excited to give it a try! I was disappointed. Since I have been to the "sister" restaurant of Tapas which has menu items in Spanish, I expected the same for Cachette. Nope. They had maybe two words of French on the menu. Also, the menus were just two sheets of printer paper on a CLIP BOARD. I find that to be somewhat tacky especially for the prices being paid. The server we had, like others have mentioned, seemed disinterested. She had very little knowledge about the wine list. I am also pretty certain that not a single member of the staff speaks a word of French. I'm not trying to be overbearing, I get it. It's Bethlehem and not Paris. That being said, don't claim to be what you're not, Cachette. I honestly hope the owner sees my review because I think the place has a lot of potential! I would LOVE to work with them on their menu to make it at least a little French and work with their staff on the language. I think it would make the atmosphere all the more authentic and professional. Not trying to sound all high and mighty, I just want so badly for this restaurant to meet its full potential. read more
