They were both really good. The chips were light and crispy. There is a lunch menu (forgot to take a pic) with several options for $13.50. I believe all of them came with beans and rice. Tequila Jack's is one of two waterfront restaurants that offers patio dining with a spectacular view of the sunset and lighthouse. It is recommended to make reservations for the patio seating. However, if you prefer immediate seating, you can check the bar just like we did. I absolutely loved the house chips and salsa. The sauce had the perfect balance of kick and sweetness. The service was attentive as I asked for a sepearte salsa and the server brought the salsa along with an additonal bowl of chips. What I ordered: CARNE ASADA FIESTA BOWL (Mixed greens with sautéed red and green bell peppers, onions, tomatoes, cilantro, and Monterey Jack cheese) which came in a giant tortilla bowl filled to the top with greens and protein. A good friend of mine recommended Tequila Jacks due to the proximity to the Queen Mary where he and his Wife were staying while waiting for his cruise. The staff was nice enough to help get a table for our group and helped find a decent location for us inside the restaurant. The restaurant is nice and the decorations as well as the paintings are unique and I recommend this for large parties that want to celebrate a birthday or a simple get together. I asked for the pollo in mole that is the house specialty and enjoyed the chips and guacamole as an appetizer. The rest of our party enjoyed the combos that everyone seemed to be enjoying. One of the main attractions of the house are the specialty drinks as well as the good food that will not disappoint. I would give 3.5 stars overall. We were seated promptly on the outdoor patio when we arrived. Service was fairly quick for drinks. Food took a bit longer. I noticed many servers hustling. We asked ours for water 3 times and she never brought it so I asked another server who was passing by if we could get water and he brought some instantly. The drinks were awesome. My wife and I are teachers in Pasadena. We are on Summer break so we decided to venture out to Shoreline Village for the day. We took the Harbor Cruise, which was very relaxing, and then decided to visit our favorite restaurant in the Village. Tequila Jack's never disappoints us. The fajitas always come out sizzling with an aroma that tickles your senses. Add the cilantro chicken salad and were delightfully pleased. Top things off with a quenching margarita and...yup we soaked up the sun while sitting in the outdoor patio area. We also enjoyed watching the USA soccer victory in FIFA play. Good food is always important at any restaurant visit. However, equally important to me is the service. Rosario was an excellent, attentive server and Mario, the manager, was always on the go checking on patrons to make sure they had an enjoyable eating experience. Tequila Jack's offers plenty of paid parking with a few hours of validation, which is convenient. We decided to give it a try since Yardhouse had a 45-minute wait. We did sit at the bar so we didn't have to wait and our server was great! We started with a Sangria and an IPA--both drinks were decent, but the food didn't match up, especially for the price. We ordered the combo choice plate with a beef taco and a Baja fish taco, but honestly, I've had better from taco trucks. The shrimp ceviche was a big letdown--there were only 2-3 small pieces of shrimp, and the rest was just filler. The atmosphere was a bit loud, but the patio with a marina view was a nice touch. Given the options available in Shoreline Village for a decently priced meal, I'd definitely go to Tequila Jacks again! I got an appetizer quesadilla as my lunch and it was super filling. Our waiter was incredibly helpful, I believe his name was Rosario! He was one of the most personable and friendly waiters I've had at a restaurant in a long time. There is shaded outdoor seating with a marina view. You can see most of the Shoreline Village while seated outside as well! If you prefer indoor seating, it's dimly lit. We got our food literally within five minutes of ordering when our food arrived we immediately noticed a Hair and his beans and cheese I mean, the hair was planted in there but sticking up enough to where we saw it a long, black disgusting hair we told the server immediately and proceeded to just pay for our drinks and leave. I went with friends for Taco Tuesday and ate nothing. I'm gluten free and there was zero I could eat on the entire menu except for a salad (with no protein) which I wasn't going to pay $17 for. All of their proteins are marinaded in non-gluten free sauce/spices. I'm giving 2 stars only because my friends enjoyed the Happy Hour menu and prices. Tacos lacked flavor, the best one was the carnitas taco that tasted like salt. The carne asada taco was not asada just a fatty lean cut of bistec. The ambiance was lacking. It was a beautiful day out but the restaurant didn't feel like a vibe. Lastly, I asked for green sauce for my tacos and I was charged $2.50 for green sauce. Isn't it customary to provide salsa for tacos? Seems like they are nickel and dimming here. $2.50 for seems a little excessive but the worst part was that it was brought out when I had practically finished my tacos. Ambiance: I've never really seen this place with a light crowd. I usually come after work, and the wait is at least an hour each time. Inside is spacious and seamlessly goes from inside to outdoors, which I love because it's close to the water. I sat down for about 15 mins before anyone even acknowledged me. When the server finally did i assumed it was just a busy hour and it wasn't a big issue. The food was amazing. Everything was perfect, and the corn bread was a pleasant surprise. The service was almost perfect. We were a large party and they took our orders promptly, delivered it quickly, and the orders were all correct (that's a first!). There is an automatic gratuity of 18% for parties over 6 or 8 (I cannot recall) and checks cannot be split, so be aware. The ambiance was wonderful. We couldn't sit outside since large parties cannot be accommodated, but we sat near the outside and could somewhat see the sunset. The music was trendy and there is an exit to shoreline village which was convenient. There is parking validation for 2 hours. If you have time left (out of the 2 hours) after eating, I would explore before validating. You only get a grace period after validation before you have to pay for parking. Like I mentioned, service is an ease, so you can accommodate an hour to eat and an hour to explore. Overall, I liked it. Definitely a take on Mexican American food, since my mom didn't like it, due to it not being authentic Mexican food. read more

The menu (see my photos) lists a variety of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, tacos, enchiladas, burritos, fajitas, specialties, desserts, etcetera. On a Friday evening, the restaurant was very busy with customers, so I felt very thankful that the seating hostess quickly found a table for my husband and me and that the waitress quickly and courteously served us. Throughout the service, the waitress automatically brought multiple drink refills. At the end, she told us thank you and to have a great night. Here are my reviews for the foods: Tortilla chips with salsa - 4 stars - The tortilla chips were nicely crispy. The salsa was moderately spicy. Guacamole - 4.5 stars - This guacamole was prepared freshly at the tableside. It contained onions, cilantro, jalapeños, garlic, and lime. The employee left out the tomatoes at my husband's request. Shrimp burrito - 3.5 stars - This burrito contained lots of shrimp as well as beans, onions, cilantro, cheeses, and sauce. The ingredients were abundant and fresh, and the flavors were OK. Fajita - 4 stars - My husband customized his fajita with chicken and carne asada. The meat was juicy, and my husband appeared to enjoy the flavors. On the side were rice, beans, and corn pudding. You get complimentary chips and salsa at the beginning. The salsa is a tad spicy but tasty. The chips are thin and crisp, slightly warm. The happy hour drinks include a selection of beer, margarita, well drinks, and wine. For an extra $3, you can make a michelada. The pork sliders were really good because the pulled pork was drenched in bbq sauce. I can't say much about the coleslaw because it was plain without the mayo dressing (so just cabbage).
