Great potential - overpriced because it can be. Our waiter was terrible but the food was good. Definitely a trendy spot. I hope it is successful as Anchorage lacks places like this. I am sure over time the kinks will be smoothed out. read more

My husband and I came here for a date night and we were very impressed. They definitely know what they're doing! We ordered the carnitas tacos, grilled oysters, duck al pastor tacos, tamarind shrimp w/ risotto, Mexican brûlée, and the brownie de la abuela. To top it off the service was awesome! We will be going back! read more

The location and ambiance are amazing! Can't be beat. The menu is interesting, but the food is...meh. I'll be back for sure, but I do wish they'd improve the food. It's new, it's hip, and I'm hopeful they'll improve the menu. read more

VERY attentive staff. Tried the empanadas and the ceviche and both were wonderful. Drinks were great as well. Looking forward to coming back and trying a full dinner. A place to watch, impressed on the first go 'round. read more

Great atmosphere. Drinks were really good and tacos were delicious (even better that they are 50% off on Tuesdays). Service was a little hit or miss, but I'd still come back if I was in the area again. read more

This is a new restaurant, great menu... Slightly expensive. This is a Mexican fusion with a great European flair. More of a tapa's menu but with additional "large plate" options. The drink menu starts at $12 a cocktail with heavy tequila options and beer, wine as well. We ordered the duck tacos which were small like street tacos, tortilla soup that they poured in your bowl table side and one of the house salads. The food was very good and we were glad we stopped in. The ambiance is very upbeat with music and a full staff. read more

This place was awesome! We were met by a friendly lady. My husband and I enjoyed 3 servings of their highest quality tequila. The staff was friendly, explained the various tequilas, and the food was delicious! The place was packed, but we never felt rushed! We are going back!!! read more

It's designed very contemporary and sterile-like. Not homey, like most Alaskan restaurants. The food is not that great for the prices. I guess I didn't know what to expect and didn't like any of my food. Very salty and over-cooked. The tequila based drinks are okay, but overpriced. Won't be going back. read more

Great location and ambiance! The menu is interesting and broad. We were in a large group and we really enjoyed the setting and decor. The margaritas were awesome. Drinks were fast, food was slow. I had the pork chop and was very disappointed. It was very thick, dry lump with way too much salt on it ( hardly edible). The Brussels sprouts that came with it were only 2 little heads sliced up. Not much food. My husband had the fajitas and they were awesome and quite a sight at the table. Friends said the tacos were good. We will be back. read more

The atmosphere was really nice and food was great! I would recommend to everyone that visits Anchorage. I had the chicken and pineapple tacos, yum! read more

Twice in one week we dined two grand slams with dinner and drinks. The Tapas format allows sharing of lots of really good food.

We had high hopes for this new restaurant with a hip vibe and interesting cocktail list. Unfortunately, our dining experience was probably the worst we've ever had in Anchorage. The cocktails, while decent, were exorbitantly priced for the quantity and quality. If I'm paying $15 for a margarita, it better be the best I've had and should be more than a half filled wine glass. Save your $$ for higher quality cocktails at other establishments like Ginger, where you pay the price but it's absolutely worth it. The food was awful, lacked flavor, or was just uninspiring. We ordered the tartar rosa as an appetizer and had to send it back. The tuna was grey and very fishy and the appetizer appeared like they had made it several days prior and had been storing it in the fridge. Tuna poke or tartar should not have that color. We ordered the salmon tacos and the carnitas. The salmon tacos just lacked any flavor at all. The sauces did nothing to enhance or improve the flavor. It ended up being a mushy, flavorless entree. The carnitas had decent flavor but I've definitely had better at both Serranos and Xalos. We also had a bone chunk in one of our carnitas tacos. The toppings for both taco entrees added zero flavor or texture and were sparse. Overall, we paid $71.50 for a meal that we wish we hadn't even ordered and, given the quality and quantity, should have been half the price. We left hungry and disappointed and stopped to grab some F Street halibut to end our evening on a more positive flavor. read more

Jicama tacos were insanely delicious, the sauce was amazing. However, if you're on a date, you may want to skip them, they are tricky to eat. Good drinks, good food, good service. Not cheap. read more

Really fresh and tasty - loved the ambiance, flavors, and decor, but was less enamored with the prices.

Decor is romantic, mix of old and new complete with tufted seats. Their cocktails have unique twists of the original and their dishes, too! Excellent customer service from Ray! He was spot on answering our drink and food questions! Skip their brownies--this is why I didn't give them 5 stars but we'd go back for their drinks, appetizers, and entrees! read more

Went there with 8 people. The atmosphere was good. Nice location and nice setup. The service was horrible. We had to remind the waitress that she hadn't taken our food order yet. When she initially took our drink order, she forgot the two individuals at the end of the table with us. When the food came, all the carne asada steak tacos were cold and the meat was rare and bloody. At the end, the waitress took our credit cards and when she returned, she dropped all the checks at the end of the table, piled up, and said bye. Typically the waitress calls out the name on the card and gives it back to the person. read more

First of its kind in Anchorage, nice trendy bar. Kind of odd tho. No dance floor or anything with a DJ pumping tunes all night. Our service was very slow and the server was not very helpful with anything. First Mexican place I've ever been to where guacamole is served with bread instead of chips...... Interesting. Drinks are also overpriced read more

OK they will get to five stars. Not quite there yet. This is a great addition to downtown Anchorage. Bartenders are really friendly and still learning so speed will improve. Pop corn shrimp was delicious. Tort soup was really well presented but just OK. I will be back. read more

If you go on Tuesdays, Tacos are 1/2 price. Fantastic margaritas and a beautiful restaurant.

The wife, I and another couple had a delicious dinner here on Saturday. Great atmosphere with not a ton loud noise although there was some (not distracting though). The small plates are perfect to share with the entire table and allow everyone to have a couple tastes. The cocktails were very unique and tasty. As far as price, it fairs perfectly to the food and drink we received. Glad Anchorage finally got a tapas! read more

I really like the ambiance of the place... Its my new favorite hang out with friends...

No putas allowed. Kind of like eating trendy food in an Abercrombie. But I don't mind feeling old and uncool if the food is good.

Limited menu- heavy on seafood. Great ambiance- steampunk motive. Staff very friendly. Prices are on the high side for drinks.

Food was pretty good. Jalapeño salad was really good. The thai rolls were also tasty. The bartender recommended the carnitas tacos, and they weren't bad, but could have had some sort of slaw or veggies in there. Service was adequate, but nothing to write home about. I was a little disappointed in getting a $16 manhattan in which the the only thing special is they light a match under the glass to produce that sulfur-ish smoke. All the cocktails seemed overpriced, and honestly I'd rather get a killer margarita at Beartooth for almost half the price. Overall, not a bad spot, I'll go back, but I don't see myself going all the time or ordering multiple rounds. read more

Then venue is nice and food was not bad. As others have mentioned their cocktails are ridiculously overpriced and they serve the smallest glass of wine I have seen anywhere. They need to take note if they want customers to visit often. read more

I'll leave it to other reviewers to parse the food and beverages and just share my experience. Went (not for the first time) with a few friends and got a few drinks and appetizers, including the oysters. When the oysters came, I saw right away (did not have to look hard at all) that something was off - or rather on - one of the six. And it was moving. I've dug clams and harvested mussels and I understand that there are creatures in the sea and I'm not squeamish, but getting a live, inch-long, many-legged worm on my half shell was a little much. Worse, the waiter only replaced the one oyster and he left everything on the check. read more

Had a cocktail that wasn't bad. Paid $12 plus $1 tip. $19 charge showed up on my credit card statement. Please beware and keep your receipts! read more

The Porto Pablano dish was amazing! Everything was very fresh and delicious. We will definitely come here again!

This restaurant has beautiful decor, amazing and unique food, and a killer spicy jalapeno margarita! Staff and owners are very friendly, this will be a new favorite spot! read more

I had a reservation set the day before and informed them I had a small child. When I arrived they made me wait 15 mins then told me they apologize but they do. It have high chairs. Two thumbs down! read more

4 stars but would rather give it around a 3.5.... The decor inside is nice...super hipster/trendy & they were able to accommodate us - group of 8 last minute walk-in (granted it was around 10 though) while the others in the neighborhood gave us a cold shoulder (Haute Quarter, Hard Rock...), so kudos on the customer service side which included our excellent server. The food was delicious & the entire party seemed to enjoy what they ordered...there were a couple of misses....the scallop app that you have to finish cooking over the flame?? Don't know how long that will last. The shrimp ceviche was great but I'm confused as to why they gave us hard-ass pieces of bread with it. The taco's were delicious - had the good ol'fashioned meat ones. Simple but with good flavor. My biggest irk is probably the $14 charge for a margarita. In a wine glass. Hold on, let me rephrase...in a wine glass but only filled half way. First off, I don't mind paying the 14 bucks for the fancy house drinks with homemade lemonade or scratch made simple syrup, I get it...you're competing with other dining establishments with hoighty toighty-overpriced-hipster named-infused with dandelion-"I'm a professional mixologist" made drinks, but you, Tequila 61, are a Mexican restaurant where people go to enjoy tacos & margaritas. Fleecing the customer for a staple such as the margarita, which is one of the elementary drinks in a bar's stock, is a crime. Needless to say, at 14 bucks a pop, it should be the best damn margarita ever made...& it simply wasn't. Oh, and the club music....it was definitely a young vibe, but the music had me wondering if I should revisit my clubbing days & pop some ecstasy... read more

The is a Mexican American fusion restaurant in downtown Anchorage. The decor is nice and the food is good, some of the people I went with complained it was a bit pricy for the amount of food, but I liked the portions were manageable. Also the drinks are very well done they might have the best margarita in Anchorage and if you are interested in Mezcal the bar manager is super informative and will take the time to explain the making process. All in all a good time if you are down town and want a nice happening meal. read more

Fantastic restaurant downtown. I wouldn't know who to describe their food other than fancy Mexican. So if you're in the mood for a greasy taco or a giant burrito, probably not the place to go. My wife and I are big fans of their margaritas, their rotating appetizer specials, and their tacos. And she loves the architecture of the place, though I find it a bit too "hipster" for my simple tastes. All-in-all, if you're looking for some fancy tacos, I would definitely recommend it! read more

The interior is beautiful but unfortunately this is not enough to make up for the poorly balanced cocktails, minuscule portions and extremely high price points. We decided we would try a variety of drinks on the menu to give them a fair shot, I've never left so many cocktails on a table without finishing them. The appetizers were so overcooked, we ended up going down the street for dinner after we left. read more

First comment- this place is much too loud! I felt like I was clubbing. I understand the modern restaurant scene, but trying to have a conversation here sucks. (Maybe it's different during the week and not a Friday night) I had the classic margarita- it was good, but not amazing. My friend and I both ordered tacos- the shrimp and the salmon. I liked the shrimp better! We also had guacamole, which was decent, but the sweet potato chips were a little too burnt to enjoy. Overall, this place was fine. If you want a modern twist on a taco while in town this place will deliver! read more

Horrible food. Don't bother. Had salmon tacos and they were not good. tacos were stuffed with some fried onions and smothered with some tangy sauce and the flavor was awful. Guacamole and chips were fair. Chips were not salted and stale. Keep walking bye this place read more

Our first experience here was great. We had a really nice male server and they made sure everything was perfect. We were so excited to share this place and come back with friends. When we did come back with friends our server was rude and disrespectful. She argued with one of of friends raising her voice. Just absolutely rude. We will never go back. We even spoke to the manager and he said that he never had a problem with that our server basically said we were wrong and it was our fault she yelled at our friends. Horrible customer service, we'll just because you never had a problem with her doesn't mean you're never going to have a problem with her. But whatever. No tip for her. And The food wasn't that great. It was so much better the first time. To bad that when we came with more business it sucked. read more

Go for the drinks. Don't stay for the food or the service. The food is average and the service less than. It's not worth the price for the tacos. To be honest, I've had better tacos in Israel. read more

For Anchorage this place is unique and great! Reminds me of somewhere In Seattle I'd go to. We made a reservation just to be safe on a Saturday night. Place was pretty empty but it was so nice out I'm sure everyone else was going to places that had outdoor seating. Service was great, drinks were tasty, and the food was fresh and tasted great. It's pricey but you're downtown and it's a newer place. I would go again next time I'm visiting AK! read more

After getting weekend ready I headed to Tequila 61. This place is brand new but I understand the owner has other spots so they know what they were doing when they opened this one- absolutely right! Tequila 61 is "gastropub" with southwestern flavors. And yes they have plenty of tequila! The Avista cocktail is vodka and gin etc. can't remember it all but it was light, not too sweet and plenty tasty. Started with the guacamole, a safe choice. No extra fresh jalapeño but good flavor with a spicy sauce on the side upon request. Our waiter was spicy too. Eddie was straight out of central casting with a muscle T and the muscles to match, black wavy hair with just enough gel and when he rolled his "Rs" the earth moved. There's a super great DJ so at this point I could've been happy with cocktails, treats for the eyes and ears but I was hungry. Salmon tacos, Carnita tacos, popcorn shrimp and I can die happy with the mignon sushi! Everything was outstanding! Full bodied flavors and perfect portions. I thought the tapas menu would leave me wanting but no fear there. This was more than enough for 2 which was unfortunate because I would have loved another order of the Mignon sushi. Thinly sliced strips of filet mignon rolled around asparagus with a bit of a flavorful sauce. The meat just melts in your mouth leaving you sad that the experience is over. read more
