Wow this place is bad. I really do mean that. If you're hungry for Mexican food, this is not the to go, This is going to be the worst restaurant I've been to in Alaska. I'm glad that there was zero wait for a table but now I understand very well why the restaurant was empty. The service is poor. The kitchen is pretty loud and oblivious to other Spanish speakers listening. The server not once asked how the food is and refilled only one drink. The food tastes outright ugly. The tamal felt canned, didn't come in a husk and was smothered in an enchilada sort of gravy. The Chile relleno was maybe some kind of microwave imitation? That was definitely not an egg batter coating and overall was not palatable. Tortillas we grocery store grade and bland. This whole dinner was a disappointment. The birds on the wall are cute.

It's been a few years since we've been able to visit La Cabana. The space seems the same but noticeably less cluttered. A few of their menus are online only. Our male server was refreshing and attentive. Cadillac margaritas were strong. The food came out fast, hot, and as expected. But still, no one's been able to replicate the "La Mex," tamale my husband loved and adored. I always forget La Cabana has a few spaces for large parties/events fyi.

This was an interesting meal. La Cabana was so dead when we arrived I didn't think they were open. We had a larger group and they were quick to seat us. The menu has tons of options. The food was mediocre at best. The spinach queso dip was a runny mess. The spinach flavor killed the cheese, and the cheese was so thin it flowed off of the chip. What a mess. The Chile Rellenos were also a soggy mess. It was hard to tell where it ended and the enchilada started. The flavors all blurred together, the retried beans tasted the same as the rice. I'm glad the service was good, because lunch was sub par. With so many other options around, I would pass on this one.

La Cabana has good Mexican food that has stood the test of time. Good food, good service all that we want when we go out to dinner. Two thumbs up!

This is still my favorite place for Mexican. I went crazy this last trip and had a shredded beef chimichanga, and it was great! I recently tried chimichanga's at a number of restaurants around town, and have decided that La Cabana makes the best. Not only is it the best, but wow were they fast making it! It's nice knowing I can pop in for a chimichanga with only a half-hour lunch. And as always, the restaurant was clean and everyone was friendly. There were nice decorations out for Christmas that I thought was a nice touch, too. Usually I eat low carb, and I don't know if it's intentional but the Fajita Salad's seem to be low carb; they don't interfere with ketosis for me. The fajita salad's are a great, quick to-go item for busy days, and way better than a salad that can be found at a grocery store. La Cabana remains one of my favorites, as it has for years.

This place was alright. The drinks were very good and strong. The food was good. The portions equal to the price. The only thing that threw me off was they were playing classic rock in the background (nothing wrong with classic rock) instead of Mexican music. Overall a good environment.

I would describe the interior as "spartan" and not really cosy. It didn't have that eclectic colourful look common to many Mexican restaurants, and nor were they playing the Mexican kind of music either. Tables and chairs were plain wood. Their large parking lot was full, however when we got inside, only one other table was occupied, so I'm not sure who was using their parking lot, but it wasn't diners. It was brightly lit though, and we got a table near the window so I could look outside. Considering only two tables were occupied, it took an inordinately long time for someone to come and take our order. I ordered the Southwest Tacos (crispy) and asked for ground beef, these were $5, I wasn't really sure how many would be served, and assumed possibly two? I also order the Parmesan cilantro fries to be my side. Husband got the Serrano's Burrito with carnitas, this came with rice and beans. We also ordered chips and salsa which was served immediately. There were lots of chips, 3 salsas and pico de gallo. The food came out very quickly, and our server was very nice. I got 1 taco (had I known I was only getting 1, I'd have paid extra to get 2) Ok, the positive - the fries were plentiful, and nice and crispy, but I was disappointed that the Parmesan was the kind out of a jar, that you shake on. I had built myself up to melted grated Parmesan, and I didn't find much cilantro either, and I love cilantro. Fortunately there was plenty in the salsa, and so I just dipped my fries in that. My taco was disappointing. The ground beef was bland, lacked seasonings, and the taco was just not very filled with things. He loved his Burrito, pronounced it delicious. I tried his rice and beans. The rice was decent, but the beans were too smooth and homogenous for my taste - I like them to have some lumpy bits of bean in. Another plus - they were playing really good music. Totally my taste (but not my husbands) as I like more modern music. Current tunes, stuff I'd have on my playlist in my car, to torture my husband with, so i liked that. Good. Service, after initially waiting a while, and food came out fast after we ordered + decent music. Food could be improved though.

I usually wouldn't eat Mexican food in Alaska those two don't really go together in my brain being from California but I wanted to give it a try anyway lol I ordered the Cilantro Shrimp Molcajete and some chips and salsa on the side. First I will say I don't see why certain restaurants charge for chips and salsa it should be free in my opinion. The salsa lacked flavor and was more sweet than anything. (I asked for the spiciest salsa they have) and the order was $8.. I get it for the size I was surprised but that salsa wasn't good. Moving on to the main dish tho we have the Molcajete which was really good in my opinion. It came out SIZZLING! and the size of it wasn't what I was expecting. So if you're hungry I would def get one of those entrees ! The flavor of the fajita mix was good and the amount of shrimp you get was super filling. That dish was about $38 with the shrimp. The bartender was nice and asked me if I was doing okay a few times and also made sure my water was filled which was great he seemed really knowledgeable of all the good food recommendations and was pretty quick with service so employees were cool ! All in all I enjoyed my early dinner in a nice place that played good Latin music and I liked that it's walking distance from my hotel. I would eat here again one day and try some of their tacos next because I hear they are pretty good. I would say they need to just make the chips free because the are NOT worth $8 lol like at all but other then that decent place.

The decor works really well, but I found the branding a bit confusing. The menu leans heavily on Mexican flavors, but the restaurant doesn't really call itself a Mexican place, so I wasn't exactly sure what to expect. On my first visit, I had the duck confit tacos with an Eddie's Tropical drink. The tacos were amazing, tender and full of flavor, and the drink was perfectly balanced. On my second visit, I got the rockfish tacos. They were tasty but way too spicy for me, which took away from the flavor. We also tried guacamole and queso fundido on both visits. The guac was solid, nothing fancy but good. The queso fundido is super cheesy and greasy, and once it cools down, it's tricky to eat. I've learned my lesson there. Service was mixed. The first visit, our server was okay. The second time, the server was excellent, very friendly and attentive. Both visits we had reservations and were seated right away, even during tourist season, which was a nice surprise. Overall, Tequila 61 is a beautiful spot with some standout dishes. The duck confit tacos are a must-try. Some dishes could use a little work, but the atmosphere, drinks, and high-end feel make it worth a visit. Just watch out for the spice and maybe share the queso fundido with a few friends.

I know it's not a steak house, but they cook steak for other items so I figured I'd be okay. My partner said his ranchero steak wasn't very good. He only ate it so I wouldn't feel uncomfortable eating while he waited. The meat wasn't very good he said, tasted old. He said the sauce wasn't very good either. For the rise in prices of things quality has gone down. They haven't done much for improvements - my seat had a big gash in it. Unfortunately after being a customer for many years I don't see myself returning here after 3 strikes this year of poor quality food at an inflated price. I think they should consider cutting their menu in half and really focusing on making quality dishes.
