Swung by after being out of town for five years and found everything was still the same, other than the prices which have gone up noticeably. That's the only reason for four instead of five stars, but everything else was perfect. Even simple orders like chicken tacos and nachos put other, fancier restaurants to shame, to say anything about that insult to Mexican food Taco Bell down the road. The ingredients are high quality, the service is fast and friendly and the food is still my favorite in town. If only they made their enchiladas with flour tortillas and green chilies instead of corn and red, but we can't have everything. Though this was a to go order like my usual, nice to see the interior as still the same clean funky friendly decor with inoffensive music, professional but not sterile like a chain restaurant. The salsa bar is still fully stocked and they kept the large sliced jalapeños too. Also appreciate the way they still include a plastic condiment cup before adding the foil to their nacho plates so you don't peel away most of the cheese when you go to eat the thing. It's a little touch but much appreciated because look how perfect those nachos still look after a long car ride home.

Taco salad. Not in taco bowl as shown. Not even any chips to attempt to make it a taco shell salad.

Today is my day for getting incorrect food orders. Me: the taco salad just has lettuce, tomato and cheese? Them: yes Me: ok I'll get that with chicken. They call my order but it's ground beef. So they remake it but this time I watch. He scoops salsa on it and I said "no salsa". He takes a handful of lettuce out and puts a little more back and remakes it for the 3rd time. It's just not that hard. And don't be fooled by the pretty menu board that shows it comes in a taco shell bowl. As you can see by the photo it's in a styrofoam container. Least you can do is throw some chips in in an attempt to make it more of a shell bowl. Nope. Not one. Super disappointing.

I love this Taco King off of Abbott & 88th. It's directly next-door to Jersey Mike's subs. They use locally made tortillas (which are incredible) and I love watching them put together their tacos! They give their soft corn tortillas in a quick dip in the incredible stock they make, then onto the griddle where they come out with such a perfect texture! I've had dry, fall-apart tortillas even when visiting Tucson, but here we are in the Great White North and these tacos ROCK! I also like the condiment area with everything from Pico De Gallo, to blended salsas (hot, medium or mild), sour cream, etc. You choose what you want and put it into the little containers they provide. If you're lucky, you'll time it when they're adding their fresh roasted/spiced jalapeños to the salsa bar. My favorite tacos are probably their chicken, but everyone I've tried has been great. Their soup is also YUMMY!

Beef Chimichanga, with tiny portions of rice and beans. Same price as if you ate in store though.

November 09 2021 Food tastes fine, but if you order take out or delivery (This time was delivery), you get screwed on portions of rice and beans big time. Also ordered sauces on the side to keep the Chimichanga crispy, which they did right, but they put that shredded lettuce underneath which made the bottom soft.

On Anchorage To Go Facebook page -- been seeing people rave about the chicken noodle soup at Taco King so gave it a try! Gave it 4stars since it's tasty, but not what I would expect from a chicken noodle soup... definitely has a Mexican spin being very tomato based.

Pros... very good food, nice employees Cons... recently my favorite dish, carne asada burrito deluxe went up from $10.95 to $12.99 and they took the guacamole off. Web site still has the old prices and says it comes with guacamole. There is no current To-Go menu printed so it was a unwelcome surprise. Only way to known price is to go in or call.

Their design of the tables and chair are kinda not cute but the food is really good. One of my favorite taco places!

The layout and decorations for not only the walls but also the booths and chairs are so pretty and colorful!

Taco King is the perfect place for good Mexican food at a reasonable price and more classy style. It's like it's in between both Taco Bell and Qdoba by price-range and food. Highly suggest coming here for good Mexican food at a good price. Also the decorations and paintings are really beautiful and colorful and really artsy. You'd enjoy just sitting there and absorbing it all in. Also, food is served fresh and really quick so it's a plus point!

I was disappointed by the freshness, or lack there of Perhaps due to it being a to-go order. I'll give it a shot in-house.

We thought it was regular hot sauce... so naturally, I absolutely drenched my burrito in it. Big mistake. HUGE. This is to be asked for by customers lol... and it was left out by mistake... One bite in and it felt like I got maced straight to the soul Tears pouring, coughing, face on fire--we couldn't even eat our food because it was that insanely hot. Honestly, it was next-level pain... but also kind of hilarious once we survived it Here's the part that really matters: the owner handled it like a pro. He apologized sincerely, took full responsibility, and didn't even charge us for the meals. That kind of customer service is rare and says a lot about the people who run this place. Owner is amazing and thoughtful... really great people there Accidents happen--but great businesses make it right, and they absolutely did. Awesome food, great atmosphere, cold beer , and genuinely good people. We'll definitely be back (just... maybe staying away from the 357 Magnum next time ). Thanks again for making it right and giving us a story we won't forget!

I fished out the solid mass with my spoon and called over the waiter. No apology. I think he then brought back the same coffee, new mini moo-cows. Really terrible dining experience. To top it off, there was an empty plastic vodka bottle on the ground by the front door.

I usually wouldn't eat Mexican food in Alaska those two don't really go together in my brain being from California but I wanted to give it a try anyway lol I ordered the Cilantro Shrimp Molcajete and some chips and salsa on the side. First I will say I don't see why certain restaurants charge for chips and salsa it should be free in my opinion. The salsa lacked flavor and was more sweet than anything. (I asked for the spiciest salsa they have) and the order was $8.. I get it for the size I was surprised but that salsa wasn't good. Moving on to the main dish tho we have the Molcajete which was really good in my opinion. It came out SIZZLING! and the size of it wasn't what I was expecting. So if you're hungry I would def get one of those entrees ! The flavor of the fajita mix was good and the amount of shrimp you get was super filling. That dish was about $38 with the shrimp. The bartender was nice and asked me if I was doing okay a few times and also made sure my water was filled which was great he seemed really knowledgeable of all the good food recommendations and was pretty quick with service so employees were cool ! All in all I enjoyed my early dinner in a nice place that played good Latin music and I liked that it's walking distance from my hotel. I would eat here again one day and try some of their tacos next because I hear they are pretty good. I would say they need to just make the chips free because the are NOT worth $8 lol like at all but other then that decent place.

While the mole sauce was delicious, the chicken thighs I received were so small and bony, my rice lacked flavor and the beans were very soupy. My chips were like the little broken pieces at the bottom of the bag making it hard to scoop any decent amount of salsa into them. For almost $30/plate I was anticipating more protein, bolder flavors and better quality. I want to give them another chance, but sometimes first impressions are lasting impressions. Service was friendly but waitstaff were busy so not as attentive. Ambiance is what you'd expect from a hole in the wall.
