I frequent Taco King because I have never had anything there that is not delicious until yesterday. I am sick with a cold and asked my son to pick me up some chicken soup from the Taco King on Abbott. It was awful. There was one whole chicken breast in the container, hardly any veg, MACARONI?, and the broth was bland and watery. Swung by after being out of town for five years and found everything was still the same, other than the prices which have gone up noticeably. That's the only reason for four instead of five stars, but everything else was perfect. Even simple orders like chicken tacos and nachos put other, fancier restaurants to shame, to say anything about that insult to Mexican food Taco Bell down the road. The ingredients are high quality, the service is fast and friendly and the food is still my favorite in town. If only they made their enchiladas with flour tortillas and green chilies instead of corn and red, but we can't have everything. Though this was a to go order like my usual, nice to see the interior as still the same clean funky friendly decor with inoffensive music, professional but not sterile like a chain restaurant. The salsa bar is still fully stocked and they kept the large sliced jalapeños too. Also appreciate the way they still include a plastic condiment cup before adding the foil to their nacho plates so you don't peel away most of the cheese when you go to eat the thing. Today is my day for getting incorrect food orders. Me: the taco salad just has lettuce, tomato and cheese? Them: yes Me: ok I'll get that with chicken. They call my order but it's ground beef. So they remake it but this time I watch. He scoops salsa on it and I said "no salsa". He takes a handful of lettuce out and puts a little more back and remakes it for the 3rd time. It's just not that hard. And don't be fooled by the pretty menu board that shows it comes in a taco shell bowl. As you can see by the photo it's in a styrofoam container. Least you can do is throw some chips in in an attempt to make it more of a shell bowl. Nope. Not one. Super disappointing. read more

I love this Taco King off of Abbott & 88th. It's directly next-door to Jersey Mike's subs. They use locally made tortillas (which are incredible) and I love watching them put together their tacos! They give their soft corn tortillas in a quick dip in the incredible stock they make, then onto the griddle where they come out with such a perfect texture! I've had dry, fall-apart tortillas even when visiting Tucson, but here we are in the Great White North and these tacos ROCK! I also like the condiment area with everything from Pico De Gallo, to blended salsas (hot, medium or mild), sour cream, etc. You choose what you want and put it into the little containers they provide. If you're lucky, you'll time it when they're adding their fresh roasted/spiced jalapeños to the salsa bar. My favorite tacos are probably their chicken, but everyone I've tried has been great. Now I'm never sure which Taco King my food comes from since there's one main number. I assume the order would go to the one closest to my house. No matter which location Taco King never disappoints. They're always quick and the food is always good. The only suggestion would be they label the food because everything often looks the same until you cut it open. But other than that no complains. read more

November 09 2021 Food tastes fine, but if you order take out or delivery (This time was delivery), you get screwed on portions of rice and beans big time. Also ordered sauces on the side to keep the Chimichanga crispy, which they did right, but they put that shredded lettuce underneath which made the bottom soft. read more

I've never been one to really complain about fast food places or restaurants or anything, yesterday 7/21/23 I went to taco king located by Abbott by Carrs, I ordered two horchatas, the daily special, and a pozolle soup, the guy at the counter told me my total was going to be $27.and some he handed me my change back I wasn't paying attention grabbed my food an drinks and dipped I had to be at work in 15 mins, so I get to work I'm looking at my change an it does not add up if I gave the man $50 an he told me my total was $27.... And only gave me 1 $5 bill 2 $1 bills and some change that I put in the tip jar! Idk if he maybe wasn't paying attention, was going to fast, thought of something in the middle of giving my change, idk but he shorted me $16! read more

I had a craving for Mexican food and I came down here on a whim while running errands around town. This Taco King is located in a small strip mall next to Little Caesar's and the DMV License Plate Office and inside the Carrs shopping plaza on Abbott Rd. and 88th Ave. I have always gone to Taco Bell on instinct when I felt the need for a quick meal, but I decided to try these guys out based on what others have been telling me about this place. The dining area is spacious with a high ceiling and the restaurant's décor has furnishings and paintings in a traditional Mexican style. I was greeted right away by a friendly employee and quickly took my order. I decided to try their Tostaditas which is their version of nachos with ground beef, refried beans, shredded lettuce, guacamole and cheese on a bed of hot tortilla chips straight out of the oven. I only had to wait a few minutes to receive my order and this was a far better and delicious take on fast food nachos compared to the Nachos Bell Grande I get at Taco Bell. The price is a few dollars more but the quality of the ingredients are evident as well as the amount of food given to you. They have other items on their menu that I would definitely try on future visits. Some of these include selections like Sope (a fried masa circle of ground corn topped with beans, cotija cheese, salsa, and lettuce with choice of beef or chicken), the Chile Verde Platter (chunks of pork simmered in a blend of tomatillos, garlic, and various spices with choice of flour or corn tortillas), Pozole Soup (shredded pork slowly cooked with hominy and chile with cabbage, chopped onions, tomatoes, and lime), the Carne Asada Platter (grilled steak garnished with chopped onions, cilantro, and lime), and Bunuelos (fritters sprinkled with powdered sugar, cinnamon, and honey). This is one of those places I have always driven by on habit without even thinking to stop in for a bite to eat. A convenient alternative for fast Mexican food if you don't feel like "thinking outside the bun" or going to a sit-down restaurant for an hour or so and paying several dollars more as well as the tip. The popularity of this place was clear with a packed seating area full of hungry diners. read more

Heart filling tex-mex style Mexican food. I've had the Burritos, Tacos and Sopes. One sope is enough food for a person, it's a well-size disc of masa shaped into a little 'cup' almost and filled with beans, lettuce and a meat of your choice. I got asada and it was freakin' delicious. The Nachos are homestyle - a mess of crunchy tortilla chips, and ooey-gooey cheese served with a dollop of guac if you ask. Not the healthiest thing you can order but man it hits the spot on a cold dark day. I'm glad the opened a Taco King in this neck o' the woods! read more

Been going to the various locations since they opened their first one. A few days ago, at the Abbott location, my wife and I had the worst experience ever. The crew was different, they were very rude, maybe one guy spoke English, who had a problem hearing. He got our orders wrong. We came back and told him he got our orders wrong, he said he didn't, and that we told him the wrong orders. He was in complete denial. We tried to speak Spanish to him, he said our Spanish was bad, and said something derogatory to my face, so I told him he didn't understand English either, because he got our orders completely wrong and that Chile Verde is the same in English as it is in Spanish. We called to make a complaint, and got routed to another restaurant, owned by the same owner whom we know. They couldn't do anything because they are a different restaurant. So apparently, the crew can do what ever they want, treat the customers as badly as they want, with no consequences, and they don't care. The crew is different, the food is completely different, and inconsistent, and I'm disgusted at what it has become. We used to love that place, and we live so close, that we considered that place our back up for when we didn't want to cook. Well, they can keep their poor service and lesser quality food and I'll keep our money at home, in our pockets. They don't appreciate us, and don't respect customers, then I'll cook our own food. Stop making excuses and blaming the virus. I'm tired of it. read more

I don't like the fact that I am writing a not-so-great review about Taco King. And with that being said I don't think I'm trying to be a food snob or anything (hopefully)! But coming from Southern California I had higher expectations seeing that the majority of the workers were Mexican, and therefore you'd think they would KNOW how to cook their own food (non-racist). Highlight(s): very clean establishment, polite workers, yummy salsa bar, and the plate presentation was nice. Cons: very bland food (meat; no Mexican flair whatsoever)!, cheese wasn't melted or couldn't be (fake cheese in a bag) vs. cheese off the block, etc. The taste was awful! And sure it was cooked and ready to serve hot, but that was it! We spent $25 bucks on crap! Unfortunately the Burrito King over there on C St. wasn't any better! Too sad because I am a mega Mexican food fan. But I will now sadly steer clear from those eateries. read more

good price, good eats, often faster than traditional fast food. my kids and I like pretty much everything but if you haven't tried the lengua (beef tongue) tacos or the combo you are missing out. don't let the "tongue" scare you off. it's like slow cooked beef stew meat but more tender. the other non typical dish for American palate that I Love is the menudo soup. it's a spicy soup with tripe and hominy. delicious. I also would recommend the other soups, Chicken and the pozole which is pork meat if you want to try something other than the typical tacos, burritos and the like. read more

Fell in love with taco king how many yrs ago. Especially the special tacos with carne asada. Delicious! Got a chance to try one of their king burritos, quesadilla, and nachos which were pretty yummy as well! I tried the deep fried ice cream but I actually prefer it at gallos. There are not many cheap eats in this town that can be considered at least mildly healthy. I don't eat chicken or beef or pork so my options are limited. But here I can get good beans and rice and cheese enchiladas without having to pay $20. I like the sopas, masa corn cake with salsa lettuce and cotija cheese a lot. The tortillas are fresh home made, just a plain bean burrito is delicious, especially when you compare it to Taco Bell, and they are just as fast with similar pricing. I like the salsa bar and they have roasted seasoned jalapeños. They always nice to me when I come in and fast workers. I am happy to have this option to eat here, it's a great I don't have time for a traditional sit down restaurant (or want to spend that much money) and you don't want fast food, this the perfect option. read more

Worst experience with Taco King ever. Never have had this bad of service.. On Saturday we drove there and ordered take out, got 4 beef and bean burritos, 2 with rice and beans and one without cheese. When we got home our order had all the rice and beans missing and 3 of the burritos looked flattened out and old. When I called the store Erika answered and told me she would call me back. When she did she told me that she talked to the cooks and that they gave us everything however we clearly didn't.. Than she said I could wait till Sunday morning.. Never offered a refund or to deliver the rest of the order that we paid for and now was missing. I told her that would not be acceptable and that she would need to call the manager asap to refund us. She called us back again and finally refunded us. Unbelievable service, when you pay for a meal you expect to at least get the whole order and have it look halfway decent. No one ate their meal from there, the burritos looked disgusting and I found a hair within my first bite. Absolutely awful. Can't believe Taco King has turned into this. Never expected this from a place that usually has good food and good service. Don't order take out unless you want an experience like mine! read more

The reason I only gave 3 stars is because the few times I've ordered delivery, it takes quite a while but mainly because whoever takes orders over the phone is rude and short and very unprofessional. I hate that I am having to write a poor review against Taco King. Up until now every time we have had it, sit down or delivered, it has been excellent. I was a little disappointed in the 1 hr 10 min delivery time but what upset me was the order was wrong. Mine was right (special tacos) but my wife and boys were not. Deluxe burrito instead of regular beef and I think cheese enchiladas with double rice for my wife; not the Queen Tostada I ordered, and that was on the receipt. Called and they apologized and said they would get one out immediately. Immediate turned into 45 min. The salad itself looked old, like the shell was cooked in old oil. The bottom was completely soggy and the amount of lettuce wouldn't have satisfied a rabbit. Don't even get me started on tomatoes...found two! On several good notes the boys ate the burrito and of course my special tacos rocked. Very disappointed and I am not sure if we will order delivery again from them...we shall see! read more
