Chicken enchilada and chicken taco combo plate side of refried beans and Mexican rice
    Katherina B.

I was sitting at work and craving Mexican food. Then it hit me that it was taco Tuesday. The chicken enchilada and taco combo plate with refried beans and Mexican rice with a side drink of horchata hit the spot. Delicious as always at Taco King Alaska.

Some days you just need some comfort food!!! Yesterday was no exception with all the snowfall, bad roads, and running late for appts. I stopped by the Northern Lights location because their parking lot looked drivable. Their customer service is always top notch, I've never gotten an order wrong, and the food is always consistent. It may not be the best in town but it always hits the spot. Love the condiment bar, it's always clean and full.

The updated taco king cuz the wanted a bar. Menue is larger not better. Can't just go up and order food anymore have to use a waitress who gets your order wrong twice. Been going there for years. Not anymore.

Quick & dirty: I'm a bell curve kinda gal so this place is decent/good. Seeing it is a chain I'll give it another go elsewhere to judge if this will have to be my go-to Mexican joint. Will try their seafood tacos or burritos a la carte instead because their rice and beans were kind of meh to me. Hint: there's a small (3%?) discount for cash AND an additional surcharge (~4%) for credit card!! It's not bad... Portion was decent although initially I was disappointed with the size but I guess my eyes were bigger than my stomach because 4 corn tortillas later (ordered carne asada combo) I was satisfied. Not thrilled about their rice and beans at all... Not very flavorful and a little on the dry side for the rice. Due to covid, no dining in and this being my first time there I didn't know to ask for salsa sauce so the meat was a little dry to me. As the dish got a little cold, the fat settled in the plate and left a film in my mouth so hopefully you don't live too far away!

Amazing food, turned off of Northern Lights Boulevard and felt like I was in Mexico or California. The staff is smiling, welcoming, friendly and they clearly like their jobs, they laugh and get so well long well with each other it is an absolute pleasure. Authentic food, don't miss the lingua tacos, don't ask what it is just have it, you will never go back. Some days there are pickled onion at the self serve salsa bar, very very good. Will eat most of my meals here the next time I am in Anchorage. Have also enjoyed the Spenard Road location very much. Alomost forgot to mention:Toredos sp? Deep fried fresh jalapeños with lime and delicious seasoning, order two one isn't enough!

Crappy food..taste terrible like ground horse..the bathroom are stinky like sewers back up..no way they pass food safety guide line. I never go there terribly management.

I came down here for my lunch break yesterday around noon. This Taco King is located at the corner of Northern Lights and A St. in the same shopping plaza that houses Charlie's Bakery, KFC, and Alaska Bagel Restaurant. The dining area is small and can feel cramped during lunch rush. Luckily, there was an open booth by the front door to keep away from the tables in the middle area where the line forms as more customers arrive. The employees are friendly and very efficient with orders, mindful of the time limit that customers have when they come in to eat before going back to work. I decided to try one of their Queen Tostadas with ground beef which I thought was a better option for a lunch portion rather than having a heavy meal and going back to the office tired afterwards. My order came out in just a few minutes after settling down at the booth. The Queen Tostada was surprisingly smaller than I thought it would be. For $8.95, I was hoping for a larger-size shell filled to the top, but mine was equivalent to a bowl that was smaller than a medium size. The ground beef was good with a decent amount of seasonings and the tortilla shell was hot and crispy, but some ingredients were lacking in amount like tomatoes or diced onions and no sign of olives. The refried beans had very little flavor, but the sour cream and the guacamole evened the taste out along with some salsa from the bar. Their Enchiladas and Burritos are heartier and more flavorful for a couple of dollars more to keep this a three star review which doesn't make the Tostada worth ordering again in future visits.

Asada tacos are top notch. Living in LA for about 10 years the tacos can compete with taco trucks in LA. Service was quick and pleasant

We thought it was regular hot sauce... so naturally, I absolutely drenched my burrito in it. Big mistake. HUGE. This is to be asked for by customers lol... and it was left out by mistake... One bite in and it felt like I got maced straight to the soul Tears pouring, coughing, face on fire--we couldn't even eat our food because it was that insanely hot. Honestly, it was next-level pain... but also kind of hilarious once we survived it Here's the part that really matters: the owner handled it like a pro. He apologized sincerely, took full responsibility, and didn't even charge us for the meals. That kind of customer service is rare and says a lot about the people who run this place. Owner is amazing and thoughtful... really great people there Accidents happen--but great businesses make it right, and they absolutely did. Awesome food, great atmosphere, cold beer , and genuinely good people. We'll definitely be back (just... maybe staying away from the 357 Magnum next time ). Thanks again for making it right and giving us a story we won't forget!

I fished out the solid mass with my spoon and called over the waiter. No apology. I think he then brought back the same coffee, new mini moo-cows. Really terrible dining experience. To top it off, there was an empty plastic vodka bottle on the ground by the front door.

I usually wouldn't eat Mexican food in Alaska those two don't really go together in my brain being from California but I wanted to give it a try anyway lol I ordered the Cilantro Shrimp Molcajete and some chips and salsa on the side. First I will say I don't see why certain restaurants charge for chips and salsa it should be free in my opinion. The salsa lacked flavor and was more sweet than anything. (I asked for the spiciest salsa they have) and the order was $8.. I get it for the size I was surprised but that salsa wasn't good. Moving on to the main dish tho we have the Molcajete which was really good in my opinion. It came out SIZZLING! and the size of it wasn't what I was expecting. So if you're hungry I would def get one of those entrees ! The flavor of the fajita mix was good and the amount of shrimp you get was super filling. That dish was about $38 with the shrimp. The bartender was nice and asked me if I was doing okay a few times and also made sure my water was filled which was great he seemed really knowledgeable of all the good food recommendations and was pretty quick with service so employees were cool ! All in all I enjoyed my early dinner in a nice place that played good Latin music and I liked that it's walking distance from my hotel. I would eat here again one day and try some of their tacos next because I hear they are pretty good. I would say they need to just make the chips free because the are NOT worth $8 lol like at all but other then that decent place.

While the mole sauce was delicious, the chicken thighs I received were so small and bony, my rice lacked flavor and the beans were very soupy. My chips were like the little broken pieces at the bottom of the bag making it hard to scoop any decent amount of salsa into them. For almost $30/plate I was anticipating more protein, bolder flavors and better quality. I want to give them another chance, but sometimes first impressions are lasting impressions. Service was friendly but waitstaff were busy so not as attentive. Ambiance is what you'd expect from a hole in the wall.
