The salsas are good, and I was impressed to see what appeared to be house-pickled jalapenos, which were quite tasty, way better than what you get in a jar at the store. After 14 days of seafood and reindeer, it was time for some Mexican food! This is not bad for fast casual Mexican. The salsa packs some heat in the medium flavor! We enjoyed the chimichanga, cheese enchilada, and beef burrito. I asked for chips and queso with no guacamole. I was expecting the bowl of melty cheese sauce and chips. What I got was a plate of chips and shredded cheddar that had been microwaved. Completely disgusting. The service left much to be desired. The guy running the register appeared to speak no English and couldn't understand I didn't want a combo- just a la carte items. I had to switch to Spanish to communicate this, and to get the items with the correct ingredients. Then he acted angry because I wouldn't pick a combo number. I've been going here since forever, the staff is so friendly and happy to help with any accommodations or explain what dishes are and everything. The food is very good, it's very comforting. I recommend the tiajuana tacos which are my go to, super saucy flavorful chicken with the crunch of cabbage is just so tasty, along with their delicious Pozole which is super hearty and flavorful. Eatable, but not the top notch, I'm Used to. Online the delivery is "Door Dash", with specific sauces with... No Sauces Were Delivered!!! I immediately called back the driver. Noo answer "Were are the sauces??? I went online about this delivery and got the "Door Dash Online Chat... There is a cart filled with extra toppings that were free of cost where you can add more spice to your plate, for example. 5/5 Service was quick and we got our food in expected time considering not many others were inside the restaurant. Service was also quick considering that I went late at around 9-10. 5/5 Ambiance is incredible. The place is decorated with Mexican culture and everything from the floors to the tables and chairs tells you exactly where you are. Taco King is one of our go-to's, because it's very close to us, and i really thought I'd already reviewed it. We go here often. Ok, so, the interior is standard, "how a non-Mexican perceives a Mexican restaurant to be but probably is nothing like a real restaurant in Mexico" and that is, violently, aggressively cheerful music, coupled with brightly painted decor. I dare say that in Mexico (though I've never been) restaurants don't do this, could be wrong though. It's almost never full, and getting a seat is never an issue, though i think the fact that they also have a drive-thru, takes foot traffic out of the restaurant. You order at the counter - i nearly always get the same thing - 2 Gringo Taco Combo meal. I like Gringo Tacos because I'm addicted to anything crunchy, and their ground beef filling is completely delicious. (We went on Valentine's Day, as i didn't think we'd be able to get a table anywhere else, and because it was a special occasion i got 3 Gringo Tacos instead of my usual 2) It comes with Spanish Rice, and Refried Beans. I'll usually throw in a couple of words of my very limited Spanish just to show i know what I'm talking about ok? I like that they have Squirt in their soda machine, it's currently my favourite, and not everywhere has it. Very refreshing. You take a seat, and maybe get some salsa and sour cream from the condiment station, and collect your cutlery. Now, nowhere does it say that Taco King is a fast food restaurant - but it IS fast. You do NOT have to wait long. Obviously refried beans, and Spanish rice are gonna be in a big pot being kept warm, but the other things are assembled to order. Husband got tamales. The food is served in less than 5 minutes. Honestly, i make tacos at home a lot, and they're good, but they're not this good, not as good as a properly warmed crunchy taco, filled with savoury ground beef, then all the fixings on top. They also put a few tortilla chips underneath, which catches any drips and spills, and makes sort of mini nachos, for when you bite into the tacos and chunks fall off. Their refried beans are not the smooth and homogenous type - they include some whole beans in the mix, which i like, and my only issue would be that i like mine a little more salty. Despite that, i never leave any. Their spanish rice is some of my favourite in town, yet i cannot say why i like it so much, it's just the right flavour. I was staring longingly at my husband's tamales, they looked *chef's kiss* perfection. I do love a good tamal. As far as I'm concerned, i was absolutely 100% happy with my Valentine's Day dinner. Their staff are always very pleasant, table service is fast (even though someone was having a large party there, we didn't have to wait) and the food is always consistent. Anchorage citizens adore Taco King and their numerous locations. It might be the most successful local chain we have. As for me? It's fine. I don't find the food to be fresh or spicy or unique. It is just very safe Mexican-style food. It's not bad, but it won't blow your mind. Think of it as an upscale Taco Bell. The issue though, is that it's priced more like a Chipotle than a Taco Bell. Maybe it was cold and some hot beans and rice really hit the spot. I was genuinely surprised how good the food was given that I live in Colorado! Trying to eat healthy when traveling, I ordered halibut and shrimp tacos, both low cal and tasted fresh. But you can't judge a taco joint without trying a meat taco (right!?); therefore, I also ordered a carnitas taco. The meat was tender and juicy with just the right amount of cilantro and diced onions. I liked that each soft taco comes with 2 pieces of tortillas to prevent messy "leaking". Better than Taco Bell and at the same price point! My daughter and I always gravitate to the chorizo tacos in corn tortillas instead of flour but you have your choice of flour too. Served with your temperature of Salsa and lime wedges! The service: every time you go by their drive thru, come in the restaurant or call to put in a delivery order you get to speak to the most friendly & polite dudes. The food: amazing and fresh rice and beans, chimichanga always crispy to perfection, tacos always well served and delicious. Zero complaints here. Want more "spicy"? Ask for a salsa or hot sauce. Easy fix. Me particularly LOVE that I never regret ordering anything here for being "too spicy". Taco King, you are the (expletive)! I am so upset that I had to leave you in Alaska and go back to Hawaii knowing you are not there. I wish I went to Taco King more than that one time. The restaurant was so cute with their very colorfully painted tables of Mexican life. I had the lengua combo which was lengua (beef tongue) meat on a platter in between sides of Spanish rice and refried beans and tortilla on the side. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and I am missing it so bad wishing I could have it again. I walked in here because they were close and yelp pointed me in the right direction. The inside was super clear and very bright. I can only assume this location is new. When I walked in I was greeted by a very friendly guys. While I was looking at the menu they asked me what I like and stated to explain things. I choose to go with the good old deep fried chimichanga! It came with bean and rice. The bean were the re fried type and the rice was typical of any Mexican red/orange rice, really not that impressive. But the chimichanga was huge! SO filling. This is like a fast food place for same or better price than a Taco Bell. Blew Taco Bell right out of the water. They also service Pepsi! So I wonder if its not a Pepsi Co brand. We got the birria combo and ensalada de lingua not sure if I spelled that right. My fiance LOVED the pig tongue she said it was super flavorful. I also really loved the birria! My fiance tried the birria (note: she normally doesn't like birria but she really enjoyed this one.) the service was great super upbeat friendly and approachable employees. The vibe was fun! Bright colors and beautiful paintings on the chairs and tables!! My fiance said it does taste authentic! We also ordered the churros and bueñuelos sadly that is why I didn't give it 5 stars. Churros we're super hard and they had something inside not soft like I'm used to (the long soft ones) The bueñuelos was made in chip form and super hard as well (I guess I'm just used to the soft circle/flower form ones) so deff would pass on those, but we would come again! And we highly recommend to anyone visiting this area and you're craving a decent price good size delicious meal. read more
