Absolutely love this place--five stars, no hesitation. They're cash only, and it's a small walk-in, order-your-food-and-go kind of spot. It honestly feels like a food truck, except there's a little waiting area inside where you can stand while your food is being made. Simple, no frills, and exactly how it should be. They make the best breakfast burritos in town, hands down. This is a super small, family-run business--a dad and his son--and Oscar is back there cooking everything himself. The food is fresh, consistent every single time, and you can tell it's made with real passion. He clearly loves what he does, and it shows in the quality. This is one of those places you root for. I will always, always come back. read more

Oscar's Taco Grande - Mexican Near Me - Anchorage, Alaska

This is good food fast! Great flavorful Mexican burritos and tacos. They also have burgers if you're not feeling Mexican that day, lol! I have definitely returned to here. The cooks are friendly and they are all Oscar's family. read more

I ate their last fall and it was a good breakfast burrito. Nothing amazing but it was a good breakfast burrito. I just went there today June 16, 2026. This is the worst breakfast burrito I have ever eaten in my life. I had to throw it out. The eggs didn't smell right they didn't taste right and something was definitely off. No phone number to call them and warn them that they're gonna make people sick with a bad burrito. read more

Oscar's is absolutely the best. Been coming here for years and hadn't realized that I'd not left a review. But it has been a while since we've been, and decided to go the other day as it's sunny, and husband had the Triumph TR4 out, with roof down. So, we get there, and i get the #3 Lunch Plate Combo, he gets some kind of a Burrito. The 2 guys behind the counter are Oscar's sons and they're fast, pleasant and very efficient at what they do. If you've not been before - it's a little permanent food truck/shack sort of combo, no eat in option, just a few fringes of drinks, a counter to order and pay, some snacks to purchase, and a counter at the back to pick up some napkins. There are some pictures on the back wall, of Oscar's vintage vehicles. When you come here, you come here because the food is good, and the service is fast, everything I've eaten here is beyond amazing, and if you're working, on a lunch break, you'll be in and out in minutes. Their refried frijoles are the best in town in my opinion - because they have the ferried sloppy part, which also contains some whole beans - best of both worlds. The arroz is well seasoned and tasty - not just the thing on the side - like you want to eat the WHOLE thing! And the taco beef in their small burrito and enchilada is second to none honestly. So good! I recommend this place 5 stars, 10/10. You have to try it. It's on a big empty lot by itself, in an industrial part of town, downtown. Oscar was in the parking lot, and my husband and him were jibber-jabbering about vintage cars. I didn't mind, i was too busy with my comida! read more

I take it back, maybe I came on an odd day at first but now this is my fav bfast burrito by far! Keep up the good work babies.

Breakfast burritos were trash. Bacon was cold no cheese I looked back at the menu the price says $4.00 got charged $12.00 for 2 burritos that fit in the palm of my hand read more

First of all, a warning: THIS PLACE IS CASH ONLY! Now, on to the rest of the review: What the hell took me so long? I don't know. This place is about the size of an overgrown coffee hut. And you may have driven by it and never noticed it. They do grab-n-go Mexican food. They've been in Anchorage a long time, they are an institution. Frankly, I should have my Yelp CA badge removed for a period of time for just now having been here. I got a breakfast burrito. It was tasty. It did not commit the #1 breakfast burrito sin: not "treating" the tortilla in some way. It should be steamed, or grilled, or pressed, or greased. I don't care how you do it, just do something to make that tortilla more elastic and pliable and/or toasted and crisped. It should not be like my buying a 12-pack of tortillas at Costco and putting some stuff inside it, like I'm making a PB&J sando! It was also cheap. ($6.50) However, it was quite small. I could've definitely eaten two. In fact, next time I will definitely order two. The low cost of entry makes that possible. Give them a shot! Just treat 'em more like a snack, unless you're prepare to order 2. The breakfast burritos ain't too grande. read more

Oscar's Taco Grande - Breakfast burrito, served until 10:30am - Mexican Near Me - Anchorage, Alaska

Great, quick spot for a breakfast burrito on a chilly morning. I got the sausage breakfast burrito and my husband got the macho. The service was quick and accurate, the food was hot and tasty. I will mention that they're cash only so come prepared. I thought the fact that they used cut up link sausage instead of crumbled sausage patty odd, but it tasted good. Rating from a F to A+++ I give it an A+++ as a solid quick, satisfying, breakfast that gives you a bang for your buck. read more

Oscar's has been one of my favorite spots for years. The prices are super reasonable and the food is great. I tried the grande steak burrito recently. It was pretty good, but not very large like the name 'grande' implies. Still, I was full after eating it and I think the price was reasonable. The hot sauce also had a nice kick and was flavorful. My favorite thing on their menu is the soft and crunchy tacos, perfectly cheesy and crunchy. It's a great, quick place for tacos and I recommend everyone try it out! read more

STOP!!! I have been driving by this little taco truck for over 25 years and have never stopped.... Until today. I was fortunate enough to be on premises when the 3 yo daughter to one of the three cooks, granddaughter to another, came in for a burrito. The pure joy that that little girl displayed in seeing her dad and her papa made the trip worth it in itself. I remembered why I like Mom and Pop Shoppe's so much. The little girl then proceeded to invite everyone to come in and get to the counter and inform us all that there is enough food for everyone. It was like getting dessert first. I chose the Verde Gigantica (Sp?) Burrito. It is made on a 12 inch spinach tortilla and amply stuffed to the gills with burrito fixings. The thing was almost as big as my forearm. I got it to go and attempted to eat it as I navigated my way across town. (Note to self, do not repeat.) I wound up with hot sauce dripping in my beard, shirt, and dripping down my arm. This is not a complaint, Just an acknowledgment of the need for commitment to consuming this beast. The burrito itself was delicious. I look forward to going back and trying the Chili Riano. I am doing you a solid by letting you in on one of Anchorage's best kept secrets. Do yourself a favor and go give them a shot. If you're lucky, you might just get to Experience the full magic of a locally owned and operated, outfit. read more

Driving by the other day, I popped in for a quick lunch and totally forgot it was all cash. Only had $5 and the owners gave me the two taco plate and sent me on my way. Generous owner and great food! read more

Avoid this place at all costs. If you want a cheap burrito thats flavorless and all tortilla, this is the place. $5 bucks is $5 bucks but my god the breakfast burrito's are terrible. read more

The beef burrito was pretty good for $6 bucks. This is a Small taco shack and it's great for grab and go lunch. The breakfast burrito is also delicious with the right amount of heat. The guy at the counter was friendly, it's like going to my uncle's kitchen and ordering burritos and tacos to go. They will definitely see me again soon! read more

After 25 years of living in Anchorage I finally made it here for lunch. I got the Verde Burrito with steak. It was excellent! Very flavorful and the spicy sauce brings a nice little bit of heat, not a lot though YMMV. I'll definitely be back before another 25 years go by. read more

Some very cool friends and co workers brought me Oscars burritos and I have to say...they are right, the burritos are amazing and so flavorful that I have to stop by this place and get them some for their generosity. This food is outstanding!!!! read more

We're visiting Anchorage from Fairbanks & stumbled upon this amazing little taco shack. Coming from Texas last we gave up hope with Mexican food in Alaska believing we'd never find anything comparable until we found Oscars. The verde gigantic burrito tastes like home for us. We've been in Anchorage a week & have stooped at Oscars 3x because the burrito is that good. We will make sure we stop by every time we are in town now that we know this little gem exists here. read more

If you are looking for the best Mexican food in Anchorage this is the place! The breakfast burritos (served only till 10:30) are excellent and about $3.00 a piece. Yes the people leaving the place with the bulging white plastic bags in their hands are taking those breakfast burritos to their coworkers. All brave souls! I hope they make it to their desk in one piece. The lunch crowd is a real mix of people. You will see the business professional, the construction worker and the occasional tourist that stumbled onto this place all in line to get a bite to eat. The counter only has a couple of spots to eat at but if you grab it to go it will be plenty warm enough when you get back to your office. There is always a special offered. Just try one! WARNING: Be careful when you open your food in an enclosed office setting. The swarm of people looking for where the wonderful smell is coming from might be a bit scary. I prefer to protect my food with the automatic stapler in one hand and my burrito in the other hand. This defensive posture tends to keep the on lookers away at a safe distance. It is a bit hard to find this restaurant but when you see the vehicles parked around the small trailer in the gravel parking lot and a group of people salivating in line you know it must be the right place. read more

Had two breakfast burritos. Mainly because they are tiny compared to the burritos I am used to in California. I will say, the bacon and sausage burritos were tasty, but at $4 a pop, you are basically buying an $8 breakfast burrito that would fill you up. I will go back and try some tacos later. Three stars simply because of size disappointment...and yes, I am talking about the burritos. By the way, the owner was way cool and super nice. read more

An Alaskan landmark for good reason. Good. Cheap. Fast. Friendly. Everything a taco stand should be on a paper plate. I eat here often for a quick lunch. You see everyone from C.E.Os to homeless buying food here. If you haven't tried it, forego the usual Mexican chain restaurants and try taco grande. read more

Okay I finally made it to Oscars. I bought 1 steak taco and a steak torta. $10.00 Excellent seasoned steak. The taco was small standard sized corn tortilla with very little in it. $3.00 I was expecting a super sized crunchy tortilla loaded...Nope. The torta was smaller than a Subway half sandwich. $7.00. As far as cheap tacos, go to Benny's food wagon on northern lights. As far as torta sandwiches go to El Dorado. Theirs is more than twice the size. With sour cream. Their tacos are Not Tex Mex. do not get tacos. Their carne asada is the largest in anchorage. Covered with grilled onions and mushrooms. However the tastiest and cheaper carne asada plate is at Los Arcos on Dowling. it comes with a cheese enchilada. I need to say that El Dorado's taco's are small corn tortillas with beef then deep fried. Tasty but small. Further extra cilantro. Sometimes no charge. And extra pico de gallo is $3.50. But huge and fresh. I prefer los Arcos. But if you wanted to be treated by Lippy family go to el dorado. Very relaxed. read more

We have "taco tuesday" every week in my shop. They have cheap good food, the staff is "cool" and friendly, and from time to time the owner drives his classic chevy to work. (always a plus) Great place for a quick bite with a food truck vibe. read more

Meh. Nothing to write home about. They take cash only. Got a steak burrito and a steak taco. Lots of steak in the burrito but it wasn't the best I've had. Came here because I was starving and was in the area. Not sure if I'd come back again. Food was tasty. read more

Very friendly and fast service, the ground beef tacos were very salty. Beans and rice were good.

I had the taco platter. I felt like I needed a shower afterwords.. the meat was pretty greasy. Beans were not too bad, and the food was hot, unlike Benny's. I still think Taco or Burrito King is better for price and quality. About the only reason u would hit this is because ur in a hurry and ur in this part of town. Seemed clean and safe to eat though... Just not all that great. Just okay. When I say Taco King, I mean the one Tudor or C Street.. NOT Boniface. read more

Oscar's is really more of a food cart where you can stand inside while you wait for your food. It's the cheapest place to eat breakfast anywhere near downtown. He offers 3 choices of breakfast tacos at the great price of 3 dollars each. Lunch is fantastic too. Cheap and very, very tasty. He's very fast so you'll never wait long for your food. I think that it must be close to some construction sites or something because I always see a few guys in work gear lined up getting 20 breakfast burritos in a large bags. Oh yeah, it's a cash only joint so don't forget to stop by an ATM if you're like me and don't usually carry cash. This would be a great place to stop for a tasty, cheap breakfast on your way to the train depot. read more

Delicious breakfast burritos! Stopped by this morning and ordered a ham breakfast burrito. The burrito was delicious and tasted like a fresh home made burrito. Ham, eggs, and just the right amount of cheese. A good sized burrito at a very low price. The service was extremely fast, in and out in less than 5 minutes. My friend recommended Oscar's years ago and I finally stopped by, wish I had much sooner. read more

Well, I haven't actually been to this facility but I had a breakfast burrito from here and it was absolutely amazing! Coming from California, good breakfast burritos are on every corner, but up here it's been hard to find a place. They are a bit smaller than I'm use to but they taste wonderful. Options of ham, bacon or sausage and you can add hot sauce or leave it alone. I opted for the hot sauce. It has great flavor and is not too spicy. read more

Can I say FANTASTIC???? I love their breakfast burritos, I used to stop in before work and they are great! Also the beef tacos were soooooooo yummy, so pleased a co-worker recommended this place to me. Great prices too! Love it! :) read more

If you're looking for fast, cheap, fantastic Mexican food, look no further. If you want to sit down and have a family dinner, keep looking because there are severe space restrictions here. This is really the only complaint. But it's a taco stand and so hopefully most people will know that before they show up. Also, bring cash. Taco Tuesday may become a thing for me after today. read more

Wow! Fast and delicious food. It isn't fancy, but it is very flavorful, fast and ready to take out. VERY limited counter space to eat inside, but take out is the main draw. Lunch on the run is a must here. read more

I get lunch at Oscar's quite often - over the years, probably 50 to 100 times. The "special" consists of an ala-carte selection, spanish rice, refried beans, your choice of "mild" or "hot" sauce, and a 12-oz. canned drink (big selection including V-8). They knock off a buck or two for the special and serve it up within a minute if there's no line. Hamburgers are made-to-order and take about five minutes (if there's no line). I always order a double cheese burger - which beats most of the national chains. Get there early - by 11AM for quickest service. By 1130 on a sunny day the line goes out the door. read more

Still my go-to, favorite joint for some Mexican food. I would rather sit outside in the rain (since it has no seating), freeze my ass (since we're in Alaska), & sip on a soda (since they don't serve alcohol) while eating tacos & quesadillas than being caught dining at La Cabana or Tequila 61. There's a good reason why this place has been around for almost 40 years. Burgers aren't too shabby either. Remember to bring cash. read more

Got the biggest burrito for $7. Great for the price. Not super filling but I would definitely go back for more. Order took 2 minutes to get. Saw plenty of construction workers get their lunch here too so that's a good sign read more

The other reviewers did an excellent job, and I'd just like to add a bit. The food is excellent, and some of the best authentic Mexican you can get in town. It's served out of a little stand, where the line is generally out the door. Don't let this deter you though as the wait is less than a few minutes, and oh so worth it. You can grab a special, which changes daily and always comes with beans, rice and a soda, and it's usually under 6 bucks. read more

We've been back several more times. The food is consistently good and still one of our favorite spots in Anchorage for a quick lunch.

Easy on the Salt!!! Otherwise the food is tasty, homemade, plentiful and a good bargain. The service is friendly and the restaurant is clean. Many people must restrict their salt intake for health reasons so a salt shaker on the counter would be a good option.... read more
