My family and I have frequented the one on Abbott and the one on Northern Lights for years. We have been very dissatisfied with the poor service, horrible quality and inconsistency of their food, lately. When you try to bring it up to a manager, you get the run around and the phone number to other businesses, owned by the same owner. I personally suspect many of the workers aren't even legally allowed to work here. Many can't even speak English and they usually have one guy that can speak English, but is a total punk, and rude. They act like they don't even care about quality service at all, like they can just drop their jobs at anytime, without any care. Poor attitudes, careless, disrespectful, inconsistent quality of foods, like they are using a different recipe, depending on who decides to show up for work. May or may not have all the regular salsas, available, like they used to. It's all gone way down hill, and I'm angry about it. We won't be going back for a while. Hopefully they improve, or just get washed out. read more

Taco King is AMAZING!! The food is fresh and made to order. The flavor is outstanding and hands down one of my favorite Mexican places I have eaten at! I would recommend you try everything! We tried the beef and chicken tacos. Also the beef enchiladas. My granddaughter is two and she loved all of the above. She also loved the flan and the salsa! read more

I'm so disappointed!! Have been a costumer for years!! Called in an order at 3:20...At 5pm but showed to and they were kinda " o'well" and finally took 4.00 off!! So lame... I told driver jeep it all, they blamed you!! Sad...lucky to have good costumers like me that order and tip well...and then to be treated like shit, and lied to. No bueno... read more

Is negative stars possible? Where do I begin? I called, placed an order, (or at least I thought I did) and then after an hour and a half, I (the customer) had to call back to see what was going on. Come to be told "we ran the card and it said declined" which is absurd. And we called several times. Yet I had no missed calls.....so both my phone and credit card happen to not be working at the same time.....real believable... read more

Having California roots makes me pretty critical of Mexican food. Walking in, the place doesn't look like somewhere I'd particularly like to dine in, which worked since our plan was to get take-out. There were two people working and only one other person there eating. The area where the drink dispensers and salsa bar is a super tiny corner that comfortably fits one person at a time. It's quite colorful inside and a bit quirky. My boyfriend got a torta (he's the simple one when it comes to food) with asada and an horchata (his first). He loved the horchata and said the torta was okay. Only real critique was the French bread being kind of tough/not fresh. I got a "special taco" with asada and a burrito with chili verde (pork in green sauce). I love that they have the special taco, as that is a typical taco/street taco and Mexican food to a T for me. I thought the asada had great flavors and was overall happy with the taco. The burrito was a different style than I'm used to, having the meat/beans inside with sauce, cheese, sour cream on the outside/on top of it. When I think burrito, it's something I can eat with my hands. Nonetheless, the burrito exceeded my expectations! The chili verde was absolutely delicious and while the pork was slightly dry at times, the sauce made it okay. I was also a big fan of their rice. All in all, great spot when I want some tacos, something quick, or am wanting something big. The portions are BIG. The child may be "house made," but they're def not fresh. After coming here and seeing how it's all made, I realize it's basically fast food, not really cooked to order. But it is yummy and I'm sure we'll be back. Would be more stars if it was cleaned up a bit inside and the food items were fresher/cooked to order. read more

Bad review. Food was not great. I asked the guy for pico d guyo while ringing up my order. He brought my big burrito that I paid 20$ for with out it. So I walk up there and ask the other guy who's working "nobody else was in the restaurant". For 2 sides of pico. He gives me attitude. So I pour what amounts to be a tiny amount of pick on my burrito. I like pico. So I ask for more. The way that they responded to me was Extremely rude and I literally thought... what... people give this shit away for free... couldn't believe it. Why the fuck did I tip????? Chipotles gonna put this cheap ass crappy taco place out of business once it comes to Alaska. Stick with qdoba for now people. read more

I used to go to the taco king on spenard and always enjoyed their food. They had excellent burritos, enchiladas, salads and quesadillas. They also made great fried ice cream and flan too. The restaurant was very vibrant, colorful and inviting. I enjoyed eating in with friends as well as take out too. They also deliver which is fantastic. The restaurant puts tiny plastic side cups out with salsa and sour cream to take for free! It was nice to take an extra side cup or two of sour cream. read more

Stopped by finally! Small dining area, busy the whole time we were there. Order at the counter, they brought it to our table, salsa bar and drink station-self serve. Ordered the lengua combo with corn tortillas. Excellent! Best meal I have had in a few weeks! read more

I've been listening to Pedro on the radio commercials for a while now. He keeps telling me to try delivery. I've never been inside one of these restaurants, but last night, I didn't want to leave the house and remembered Pedro's promise of good food and fast delivery. The food was basic Mexican fare, nothing special. Everything arrived still warm, quickly, and efficiently. Lots of condiments were packed along with plastic utensils. If I ever need a South of the border fix again, and I don't want to leave the house, I will likely be calling Pedro again. read more

This place has absolutely great mexican food, and coming originally from California, I think I have pretty high standards. I knew it was going to be good as soon as I walked in. It's staffed by Mexicans. The place has that tacky taqueria feel that all authentic Mexican places have -- you know you're going to get crappy Mexican food if the restaurant is a sit-down joint with candles and 5 dollar margaritas and a wandering mariachi band that serenades you and your date. This ain't that place. It's no Chevy's. Then I saw the menu. It has menudo. It has beef tongue tacos. It refers to those hard-shell tex-mex tacos as "gringo tacos", which made me laugh. They have a selection of white-people mexican food for the less adventurous, but the menu is clearly designed for those of us that appreciate Mexican food as it was meant to be eaten. When I come here, I usually get two beef tongue tacos and two chile verde tacos. The menudo is good, too. They have burritos and things but why bother when you can get tacos? Squeeze some lime on them and go for it. Man, I'm getting hungry just thinking about it. read more

I just took Pedro's advice and got Taco King delivered. I ordered a pork King Burrito and the wife got a 3-pack of beef Gringo Tacos. The delivery took about 75 minutes, which for a Friday evening isn't bad. The food was... good, not great. I mean, definitely two steps above taco bell, but a step behind Serranos. The salsa was good, could have been a heck of a lot spicier. The portion size is great, a lot of food for a small amount of money. Everything was very greasy, especially my wife's Gringo Tacos. Definitely a good option if you don't want to drive, or if you can't legally drive. I imagine based on the level of grease, these would be amazing to eat whilst intoxicated. read more

So I went to a place named Taco King and was underwhelmed. Should I be surprised? According to Yelp, yes. Being a born-and-bred San Diegan, I was excited by the reviews I saw. REAL Mexican food? In Anchorage?! I probably would give this place three stars for the didn't-make-me-sick-ness, but my husband was REALLY disappointed, and he's easy to please. It was the overly-enthusiastic Yelp reviews that done it. So I have to even the playing field. Yelpers who have traveled afar and claim that this is real, quality Mexican food, I have no idea whether it was the endless sunlight or darkness that drove you to your crazy, but I must strongly disagree. Is this place the MOST Mexican-food-ish in town? Probably. Is it good? NO. Meat was dry, grisly and boring. Guacamole was pre-packaged. Taco shells were bought from the grocery store, and most importantly, the default beef was ground. Yes, you heard right, folks: ground beef. Most decidedly not Mexican food. When I asked (and paid extra) for shredded beef in my tostada (which is what is supposed to be the default), I got waaay overcooked cane asada. Yes, there is a difference between shredded beef and carne asada; the Taco King employees did not know it. The refried beans seemed to have the lard in them but lacked taste. (Bad combo.) Plus, they did not use real Mexican cheese, just normal large-shred cheddar. My husband got the "al pastor" style tacos. They almost looked right, but they tasted all wrong. Dry, tough and bleh. So sad. The salsa bar (with sour cream included, free of charge) was a nice touch, but since the chips are unoriginal coarse corn (hello, Seattle-area "Mexican" restaurant cliche), any joy you would get out of the salsa bar is gone. Taco King, I wanted you to be the real deal, but you just ended up being the usual. So disappointed. read more

This was not the best Mexican I've ever had. Yes, I know I'm in Anchorage, but it's standard burritos and tacos that you need to flavor yourself with salsa and hot sauce because they don't do anything special to it. It's more of a takeout place than a restaurant, even though there are booths and tables there. They have the fixin's in the corner by the drink machines, and the people who work there are very nice. It wasn't gross & greasy or anything, but it's just a simple lunch. read more

I miss you, Taco King!! Everyone thinks I'm crazy when I say that my favorite Mex place is in Anchorage.... but's so true! Carne Asada washed down with a glass of horchata is the meal to get! read more

Good place to go for an inexpensive, quick meal. I became hooked as a UAA undergrad. Carne asada king burrito every time! I ask for extra salsa and sour cream and drench my burrito and refried beans (not into the side of rice here or anywhere). The lunch specials can be good too: you basically get a free drink with the featured entree. Their chicken soup is legit, especially when you have a cold. Their customer service is great too. Memorably, one night we were over there with my picky toddler who only wanted to eat meat. When my little guy ate everything off my plate, I tried to pay for a side of chicken but they just hooked me up gratis. Also, I'm a sucker for any place with a good salsa bar and Taco King delivers there too. read more

Taco King has pretty standard and decent quality mexican fare. I love this sour cream and 10 types of salsa at the salsa bars in Anchorage; its a step up on the one shot opps that other places try to pass off as a salsa bar. It can be a bit challenging to make your order clear, but once we become regulars, I'm sure our "regular" order will be easy to recall. Very good burritos. read more

I thought the food quality would have gotten fixed by now after the last time I visited this location over a year ago but it hasn't at all, it's just as bad if not worse. I usually get the lengua but decided not to considering the crap I received the last time I had ordered from this location, so got the carne asada instead. And I'm so not exaggerating when I say that that was the toughest, most unflavorful meat I've ever had, and of course just my luck even the rice tasted like crap. Never eating at this location again. read more

I've ordered 3 times from this establishment. The positive side is the orders were correct when they arrived and were fast to arrive. The down sides are as follows: 1) Over cooked. I've never seen someone overcook nachos before twice in a row, let alone be able to burn the inside of an enchilada and not the outside. 2) Phone time. Literally 5 minutes on hold only to be taken off and asked to continue to hold. Must have taken lessons from the IRS on that one. 3) Never carries change. If you order and pay cash, make sure you have exact cash or be willing to tip the driver. Sorry, but burnt chips are not my idea of good Mexican food. I don't think I'll be ordering again any time soon. read more

I love Taco King. And I like that they have expanded so I do not have to drive across town or just "happen" to be in the neighborhood. The food , yeah it can look pretty messy but it is tasty. I love that there is a salsa bar and they also have horchata!! MMMmmmmm horchata! The prices are seriously reasonable and they have a fair seating area. Totally recommend this place. read more

I just got hanged up on, because I was looking up the address to deliver. Terrible service, so much for great cheap food. Ew!

If I could give zero stars I would. Not only is this inauthentic Mexican food, it is almost non edible. The food is disgusting. I should've walked right back out the door when they greeted me "how ya doing amigo." I know the competition is low in Alaska, but this is completely unacceptable. I'm never going to this location or any other again. read more

Taco King is good enough Mexican food, and I'm glad they deliver. I get a kick out of the "gringo tacos" too, which are the tacos I order despite knowing how uncool that is. Unfortunately, I tend to order delivery more than eat at the restaurant and they lose my business much of the time because phone ordering is always a hassle due to the strong accent on the other end of the line that talks too fast for me to understand the questions, and also is always impatiently in a hurry to get answers out of me, thus not listening well to the customer trying to order. I've actually given up in frustration before and just hung up. Other times, I consider calling but just don't have the energy for the hassle. When I do have the energy though, and I'm craving decent Mexican food at a reasonable price, I call Taco King for a large order. read more

I grew up going to Taco King, and always got the same thing - special steak tacos and a bowl of menudo to share with the family. Since living in the area I've moved to California, but I still come back here to eat with my family whenever I'm in town. Even in comparison to California's Mexican fare, this spot still holds its own. The prices are pretty good, and service has always been friendly! Believe it or not, Taco King is one of the best Mexican places around. You only have $5 to your name? No problem - 3 tacos, refried beans and rice still comes to $4.79 (even in an overpriced place like Alaska). Fairly standard Mexican fare for years. varies somewhat depending on the time of day. One thing that seems out of the norm is that the prices recently went up And they added a "service charge" of 4% for anyone using a debit or credit card. Might as well have a sales tax. read more

This place dishes up delicious, simple mexican food pretty consistently. Carne asada or grilled chicken tacos are delicious. They really do a nice job with the rice and beans. Also try the pozole, better even than I had living in Mexico for a year. The salsa bar is good, althoug nothing spectacular. Wash it all down with a delicious agua de horchata... Lifelong Anchorage resident and I, family, and friends have been going there since the late 90s (when I found out about the place) and the place has, for the most part, maintained its high level. Highly recommend. read more

Excellent Friendly Fast and really good food. Cute atmosphere and Great Chicken Tacos. Will go back.

I usually eat here for lunch at least once a week and normally get the Tostaditas, which are excellent if you enjoy "super nachos". I have also tried their burritos, special tacos, Mexican tacos, gringo tacos, and Halibut tacos. Everything is excellent quality and freshly made. The staff is always friendly and the service is very fast. There are times my meal is ready before I have a chance to get salsa, pico de gallo, and sour cream from the salsa bar. Of course this could be because I am a regular customer and they know my usual order. I highly recommend them, especially for the price. read more

I had the pollo burrito combo. It was very average or maybe less than average. The chicken was tasteless hard pieces that the over powering raw onions disguised. The beans tasted like Rositas from a can and the rice was bland. There was some sort of orangish colored sauce on top that had no taste. I tried to Dr it up with sour cream and salsa, but it didn't help. The tortilla was nothing to write home about either. Overall it was a disappointment and made my stomach feel icky for hours after. read more
