There is combo special for 9.95, which makes this filling and affordable. The workers are nice and fast, and this place can get busy. Tried to call my order in and no one picked up the phone. Two weeks ago I was treated to take-out from Burrito King by one of my Mexican co-workers. You gotta figure if someone from Mexico likes a Mexican fast food joint, it's gotta be decent. I wasn't disappointed. So last night, I took my family there because we were starving and in a hurry. I was suprised how huge and bright and cheery Burrito King is inside. It feels like a Mexican Chucky Cheese, LOL! Lots of primary colors and festive music. The place reeked of cleanser, so I guess that's a good sign. The floors looked freshly mopped, but most of the tables were filthy. At Burrito/Taco King, patrons are SUPPOSED to bus their own tables. Fact is people are pigs and the guys in the kitchen were so busy, finding a clean table was tough. Regardless, we placed our order at the window, paid and pigged out. Several trips to the salsa bar later, and our table looked a mess like all the others. I can see why the dining room was such a disaster. From the dining room, you can watch the assembly line kitchen cranking out orders for delivery non-stop. Those guys work at a break neck pace. And for fast food, it's way better than Taco Bell. Lots of cilantro, lime, authentic cheeses. And most of the huge platters are in the UNDER 10 dollar range, which in Anchorage is a small miracle. And I LOVE that they have Horchata! Good food, fast service, tasty. A winner for sure, but I think in the future I'll take advantage of the delivery service so I can enjoy my meal without the aroma of mop water and sticky tables. Also, for people unfamiliar with Anchorage, getting to Burrito King can be confusing because it's accessed most easily from a one way street. There is a new side access street that was just completed, but it's super-confusing. It's easiest to loop around and get to Burrito King from "A" Street which is a one way street. (So as a frame of reference for out of towners, this is a solid 4 star fast-food experience by Anchorage standards. But if you're used to authentic Southern California style Mexican food, you'll be disappointed, it's more like a 2 1/2 star deal. But by Anchorage standards, it's decent.) read more

I'm going to preface this review by saying that I've been a fan of the King franchise for years and have always had a good meal. I love the carne asada platter, salsa bar and generally the customer service is good... normally, I'd give 4-5 stars for them at any given time. We have always experienced polite customer service, piping hot meal brought to our table and an endless supply of salsa and sour cream from the salsa bar.... this time however, we didn't even get a chance to have lunch. I had been looking forward to said carne asada platter all morning. We arrived just before 11:30, before the lunch rush, with three people in front of us... we waited and waited some more. My husband stepped away for a few minutes to come back to me standing in the same spot. The gentleman who was ordering at the register walked away without an order. The next two ladies in front of us were there for a while, a dispute of sorts was happening, they stepped off to the side. We step up to the register, three people standing there, one on the phone, one looking at the register computer screen and another talking back and forth to both of them in Spanish. I don't know what the problem was, I don't speak Spanish, no big deal... we waited... waited... and waited. ZERO acknowledgement to us... no thanking us for patience, no we'll be with you in a moment.... nothing. We had planned out our day accordingly and after having waited for a whopping 15 minutes in line, we walked out. Very disappointed, and not sure why all three people behind the counter stopped everything. No cooking, no taking orders, nothing! Hmph! read more

This is more of a 2.5 star review, but I'll round up because generally when in Anchorage, you must lower your expectations. Especially when it comes to certain kinds of ethnic cuisine, Mexican among them. Burrito King is basically the same thing as Taco King but larger than most locations and with a drive-thru. There's plenty of seating area and a ton of bright, colorful, gaudy decorations like your typical Mexican restaurant in America. During my most recent visit, I ordered the daily special, which was an enchilada and burrito (both ground beef), rice, beans, and a fountain drink for $9.95. Pretty good lunch deal. I also ordered a side of guacamole ($1.25) and a large horchata ($2.75). The food was hot and fresh but lacking in flavor. I'm no Mexican food expert by any means, but I expect Mexican food to be rich and flavorful and everything was just lacking. Adding some salsa helped a bit. The guacamole had some avocado skin pieces in it, but I suppose that's reassurance that it's fresh. The guy at the counter completely forgot about my horchata and seemed annoyed when I had to remind him about it. To be fair when was basically the only line cook there and a bunch of other employees were running around. Seems like this place could use better management. The restaurant either has gross sticky tables or smells like bleach, no in between. Weird. Overall Taco King is okay if you want decent Mexican-ish food at a decent price that isn't Taco Bell. read more

The lady asked us if we wanted in salsa told her never been here and she said " I got you" and just put all of them on there. There are so many better Mexican options in town that cost almost the EXACT same price as Burrito King and offer FAR superior everything: Service Ambiance Quality of food Variety of sauces Freshness of ingredients Etc. The quality of the burritos is slightly higher than your average Taco Bell and nowhere near as good as your average Chipotle (please, oh please, come to Anchorage...I will join in with the Alaskan-we-just-got-a-lower-48-chain-fervor if it happens!)...and it costs much more than either of those. (nearly twice as much as Chipotle. I know this is Alaska but, c'mon guys) Everything was just ok. My burrito wasn't all that fresh. Nothing was all that hot in temperature. Sauces were mild and bland. Pretty much no reason to not go somewhere else instead. Just drive a bit farther north and hit Serrano's. A few of us were working nearby and popped in here for lunch. No table service other than they will bring your food to you..thanks ok. Service was pleasant and the team behind the counter seemed to know their roles and duties Salsa bar with real sour cream which I found amazing. I've never been to a Mexican place in the lower 48 that would have real sour cream there let alone it being FREE! Asada was great. I have the king burrito (asada) another had the asada plate, and a couple went with the asada nachos. Food came out quick, didn't have that just microwaved feel and portions were large. read more

Burrito King is the same as Taco King, but with a different name and a drive-through window. The burritos and tacos are relatively expensive for a taqueria, but that's hard to avoid in Anchorage. The food is not subtle, but it makes good use of fat and salt to end up just as satisfying as cheap Mexican food should be. Overall, the Taco/Burrito King empire is better than most taquerias in places not known for Mexican food, but not competitive with taquerias in places full of Mexicans. Disclaimer: They do not have carnitas or al pastor (the two best taco fillings), but adobada is a passable substitute for the latter. Anyone who enjoys a good sloppy plate of nachos will enjoy the tostaditas (chips covered in beans, cheese, guacamole, and MEAT) even more. read more

Not 5 stars because the dine-in is loud and the people are hard to understand at times, but they are always friendly. And the drive-thru sure is nice! I enjoy the food buy the service is really hit or miss. Some days can be in and out in ~15 minutes and others 15-20 minutes to order and another 15-20 to get your food inside for this fast food style Mexican. Drive through though in general plan 20 minutes. The kitchen staff though does seem to try and you see working hard but the breakdown seems in logistics of getting and processing orders efficiently and keeping the dining area clean. I've on more than one occasion seen the inebriated community that likes to hang out at the local park also stifling up the restaurant and the operators not take any action to prevent or stop it , instead letting them basically dominate the atmosphere of restaurant, distract the staff, drive away customers. This place is unique...It's an authentic Taco Bell. What do I mean by that? Well, you can go in or take the drive thru to order, but the end result is delicious real Mexican food. The meat is seasoned so well (both chicken and beef that I tried) and the burritos are the perfect size for lunch or dinner. I also need to mention that the service is really good. I've passed this location multiple times. Why did I think it was on the opposite side of the street? Came here for an event and was automatically turned off that the parking lot was itty bitty - and the place wasn't even filled. So imagine if it was, you'd be parking up and down the side roads for a basic burrito. I ended up getting one of the combos, which actually was a fair amount of food. But they don't have queso? Did I miss something? Unless they forgot? But how do you forget queso out of all things to forget. The cilantro was pretty fresh, and their steak was cooked well, the salsa though - not so much. Their salsa is served bar style. Tons of bins, tons of terrible looking salsa. Their sour cream had been exposed so long, it had a milk consistency. Gross. All in all. It was just alright. I found myself in midtown because of some repairs being made to our water system, and stayed at the Aspen Suites nearby. I was most disappointed at this location as I am a fan of Taco King. I used the drive-thru and maybe should've gone inside instead. I had to repeat my order through the speaker, then again at the window. I ordered a deluxe burrito with ground beef, but he kept asking if I wanted the chicken. No. Well, I got back to the hotel room to discover a chicken burrito. There were no diners in the restaurant, so I don't know what went wrong. I love the locations on Spenard, Huffman, and 88th, and they seem to have better quality of food and better communication. I ordered food for delivery and I have had a good experience with them as a whole in the past however today I ordered food at 11:52 AM and my food is still not here. It is now 1:58 PM and I have had to call three times and was given a reason for the delay. The driver had mechanical problems however; if you manage the expectations of others and communicate effectively, your mistakes can usually be overlooked.
