Taco king has quickly become my family's go to Mexican fast food. This is now my husband's favorite place in town to get a carne asada torta (sorry Serrano's) They taste more homemade, full of flavor, and the asada has a better texture than their competition. My only gripe is that they're not made on bolillos, but instead look to be made on maybe a French bread. Their carnitas tacos are delish. Ultra soft, packed with flavor and richness. The pozole is alright but lacking in salt and umami. What I do like is that they include tortillas and fixings for the soup. What I don't love is the salsas because they seem to be hit or miss. Sometimes there's a sour kind of taste in one like a vinegar taste maybe that alternates which salsita will be the weird one everytime I go. Taco King is now Taco Serf. I'm not sure what happened! This place use to be one of my favorite Mexican style restaurants in Anchorage but today I was met by a whole new crew in the kitchen and a very disappointing meal. The Chili Verde resembled an over salted Chili Colorado, the salsa was awful and I cannot even begin to describe the Birria Tacos, soggy and had to ask for consommé which was an apparent after thought as we were served a paprika red sauce topped with cilantro. I really like the food here. After all these years, and all the crazy price increases, Taco King keeps it real. Their price increases are gradual so you don't have a heart attack when you go in, but enough that you're confident their employees aren't starving. I like that. One thing that annoys me is EVERY time I go in they forget to give me my beverage because the guys are gossiping behind the counter like a bunch of old ladies. I speak fluent Spanish which is not obvious from my appearance and it's always obvious that the reason that items get forgotten is because the guys are discussing NSFW topics. I'm not offended, I just want what I paid for. Gracias. PS- I suggest you try the authentic (not tacobell) GORDITA. Dress it up with some flavors from the salsa bar and you have a lunch that SMACKS for $8. read more

Decent food, I just live their cheese enchiladas. They have so much flavor with the cheese and the sauce, soft tortillas it is great. Also the rice and beans are top notch. Service is friendly no matter which location you go to. And they are quick. read more

We've tried a few places in Anchorage looking for authentic Mexican food and this is the closest we've come. I'm so glad we found it because we are here for another 14 weeks and I NEED good Mexican food to survive! We had a torta de asada, tacos de asada, tacos de carnitas, side of beans, and rice. The salsa was spicy and flavorful; the torta was loaded with all the right toppings and delicious; the carne asada wasn't the best I've had, but the best I've had in Anchorage for sure! The carnitas was tender, flavorful, and just enough crisp which told me it was cooked authentically. The menu is slightly confusing and the price point a little high, but for us it is worth it. read more

Terrific carne asada meal. But watch the cashiers. Taco king charges a 4% fee on all credit card purchases. Today I paid with cash. But the cashier told me to pay the amount that included the 4% fee. Taco King is a great lunch option if you are looking for fast, filling, and generally tasty food. The prices are very reasonable for what you get and you can be in and out quickly if you prefer take away. They usually have a daily special as well. Most entrees come with rice and beans as well, so you don't need to load up on your order unless you are really hungry. Plenty of parking in the shopping center lot at this location. read more

Nice dining room and open kitchen with beautiful Mexican tiles which add to the experience. I have had the deluxe burrito last time and it was great and huge. This time the Lengua plate with corn tortillas. Talk about kick ass. Reminds me of the street carts in Puerto Vallarta. Okay I'll kick it up a star. I've come here a few times, but had a bad experience with the delivery option so I griped. I don't come here all that often, maybe twice a year, maybe. I just don't frequent Taco King very often. The place is run by mexicans, has a decent salsa bar, and deliver the food to your table; that's really great, especially for the price of the food. I usually get the veggie burrito with rice and beans. I will say this is my favorite Taco King as it has the nicest interior; lots of bright wall paint and wall ornaments. I will say my greatest pet peeve is that this place can get busy, but the tip jar seldomly has any dollars in it. Just because the food is cheap doesn't mean you have to be. Throw a dollar or two in next time and you might just hear the register guy softly say, "Gracias senora." It may just make your day as it did mine. read more

Taco King offers wonderful flavors and a lot of variety in Mexican food. They offer soups, nachos, chili, tacos, and burritos among other menu tasty items. You can order ground beef, chicken or steak. Alacarte and specialty sides are available. They always have fresh horchata too. Their customer service is always friendly and helpful. Sometimes we dine in and the environment is bright and clean. Takeout is fast and doesn't skimp on serving size. It's good "real" fresh food, for example real avocado slices or guacamole (your choice) with friendly service no matter the weather or the season. So I need to be perfectly transparent and say that I'm from Southern California and I was visiting from San Diego. My expectations for Mexican food may be a little bit too high. However, this place was pretty good. They have a nice selection of items. I got a bean and cheese burrito meal with rice and beans, a Mexican Taco with chicken, and an order of churros. While the service was fast and the prices not bad, my tostada deluxe was not even hot. I'd call it mostly warm. The meat didn't taste seasoned (beef) so it was all a little bland, even with the salsa and sour cream. The tostada was also swimming in liquid that looked like water in the to-go container it was in, so the shell was tough and moist, not crisp. it still tasted ok, and I ate most of it, but won't be buying it again. Just a week ago, I left the great south west... imagine my surprise when I see not just 1 or 2, but a multitude of mexican places in just a short drive from my apartment. The first I've stopped at was Taco King (I don't remember the #3, but its the right address), with a friend for lunch before work. Luckily, we got there minutes before the lunch rush, because by the time we got out food, there was about 10 people in line at the counter. We both did the two taco meals with a lengua and an asada taco. We also did the B dessert (buenosomething?) Which was fried with honey and cinimmon (sp?) Topping them. Everthing was really good, and the food was brought out pretty quickly. While it may not be as good as some of the places in AZ... it was a good first stop. I will be coming back here. read more
