Well, I wouldn't call it "authentic" mexican food, being that I'm from Texas and all that we have down there are locally owned places, but the tostaditas are pretty decent... they're just nachos. Weird name. I ordered "bean dip" today, kinda bland, just beans and over cooked chips, but I'll mix in some salsa and cheese and enjoy them later. The sour cream icks me out for two reasons, it's runnier than a salad dressing and there are always bugs flying around that nasty salsa bar where you get it, but aside from that, the place is pretty decent. read more

I am from Houston Texas and if you live in Houston, San Antonio, The Valley and on the border you are use to food Mexican or Tex-Mex done a certain way. Taco King is not bad. I enjoyed the tacos as they were simple and very good. My girlfriend (from Seattle) had the enchilada's and did not like them. I didn't think they were bad. I have to admit this taco joint is pretty good. I ordered the carne tacos with refried bean and it was delicious. I visited the taco king off spenard road and I had to walk out because they were using a black dirty sponge on the grill. I will stick with the one on Northern Lights exclusively. read more

My favorite location of all. Most likely because it's the one I've been going to for as long as I can remember. The food is prepared best here because it seems as though they are more careful with their preparation and execution. Service is also cheerful and attentive. I love, love their "special tacos" with shredded beef. All of their sauces are VERY tasty and we always get a little extra because its delicious. Lol I really like their beans (I think they're black beans) but im not a huge fan of their rice. My mom had been to Mexico several times and this is her definite go to place. We've tried just about everything and loved it. OH! The seafood chimichanga they had a few years ago was amazing. Prices are okay as well, you get a lot of food and the service is quick and friendly. Oh wow! One of my favorites! Love their "Special Tacos" with tons of shredded beef, plus they've got all the good stuff going like Cotija Cheese, Jalapenos and Limes. Must try the veggie burrito, nachos,enchiladas and the salsa bar with tons of toppings. Fried Ice Cream is also a must try. Speedy service of the staff even though the lines are always long. Arrived Anchorage late around 9-ish and not in the mood of entering one of those big chain restaurant. Found this place through Yelp and gave it a try. Not a fancy place but does the job, it is cheap and don't charge extra for guacamole or sour cream on your burrito like most restaurant in California does. The food made very fast and in good portion. The salsa was nice and hot. I give it 4 star since it is in Anchorage, it will only be a 3 stars if it is in California haha. read more

It was fine. I wasn't super impressed, not disappointed either. Can I go 3 1/2 *? It didn't make me sick, it was better than Taco Bell but also definitely a little more expensive, but not like a Mexican "sit-down" restaurant. I hear they deliver and that it's good. I'd call it "reasonably priced." I liked my food, don't get me wrong, but I'd rather go elsewhere even in Alaska. The high point was the salsa bar. Let's face it there is no "real' Mexican in Anchorage. That's okay! The real deal would probably not be for the majorities palate. This place comes damn close and is a great deal. Next time you're thinking of hitting a fast food place, do yourself a favor and just swing by one of these guys. I got the daily special because I was going to get enchiladas anyways. The description was that they were 'beef' enchiladas... well what I got was hamburger enchiladas. It was a major disappointment! If you are going to call it beef then you can't just use hamburger meat. I could have made those exact enchiladas at home! Also, a helpful tip is that their beans can be REALLY HOT. I pretty much burned my throat because of how scorching those beans were. So watch out. read more

It seems that no one at this restaurant can understand simple orders or count accurately. Not only does our food take two hours to arrive, but it's usually not correct. I have ordered the simplest dish- nachos with beef- a few times with a few other dishes, and they either don't send it, send it cold with plain cheese, or somehow misinterpret my order and add lettuce. Lettuce. When we order extra chips, they somehow forget them, or only send one where we order two. I'm done. I will never order here again. This is absolutely ridiculous. Taco King is so reasonably priced. It's awesome food! My only complaint is delivery can take hours so order early I guess. I have yet to have anything bad there. The eat in locations are always kind of chilly but are very cool looking..and usually seat g is limited as there hasn't been a time the restaurant wasn't hopping. Worst taco king experience I've ever had. They were out of beans... I asked for no sour cream. Everything was cold.

Bland, tasteless and heartless venue. I found myself wanting to drink the salsa for some flavor... and I'm a MAJOR spice WHIMP. It just made me sad and long for the day I can have good Mexican food once again. Will I try it again? I'd heard such great things about the place and when I finally got there and realized it was in the strip mall on Northern Lights, I was a little let down. I walk in and see an almost cafeteria-like experience awaiting me. But I was wrong. The food was fresh, hot, and cheap. The portions were large enough to satisfy without going back for seconds. Soooo good, it's so hard to find anything authentic in Alaska but this one comes close. We've come to Taco King so many times, we are never dissatisfied but always cold leaving the eat-in area. The selections are great. The condiment bar is messy and so is the dish-return area (yes, bus-a-move) but that's because the prices are fantastic! We love Taco King for their lengua tacos (3 for $8? Absolutely!) and pozole. Lots of meat with both orders all the time. In fact, the husband almost always gets 2 meals out of his bowl of soup as there is so much pork packed in there. I have never tried delivery (because really, whining that your delivery isn't perfect reflects upon your level of activity - or lack thereof -, not the restaurants) and don't feel an ethnic restaurant should be judged on their Americanized food. The service is always friendly -- I always feel like they remember me when I go there, even if it's months between visits. The food is always delish and a great value. If you go early (11am ish) the salsa bar is really clean and attractive! One of my favorite places in Anchorage, haven't had a bad experience yet. read more
