Impeccable service. When you come in ask for Baylee at the bar or to sit in Sierra's section. They will take care of you sum'in fierce. The food was Mexican and it was clean. A diverse menu with exquisite ingredients. Star of our table-Duck Confit Tacos, tender and seasoned right. Ceviche was well presented and calamari was flavorful. Come in for the bites, nibble on the electric atmosphere. This place is palpably lively. Happy noshing! read more

Tequila 61 is amazing! The atmosphere, itself, is worth stopping in for a quick drink or one of the tapas. It reminds me of the trendy, quality restaurants in DC, Seattle, and Chicago. Everything we had was wonderful: carpaccio, guacamole, cerveche, tacos, chiccharon (beware this is spicy...burn your nostrils spicy, make you cry hot), creme brûlée, and the horchata cornbread. Get a side of the corn rice. Go! read more

If you want to watch the bartenders shake martinis, it's a great place to go. If you want food, stay away. The halibut tacos took 30 minutes and it was a piece of halibut in each of the 3 tacos and a whole bunch of lettuce and cabbage. It was really bad. Maybe some of the other entrees are good bit do not order the tacos. read more

This place is horrible. We waited 2 hrs only for a party of 8 . They were running out of food . The food was not worth it at all

Had a coupon for a BOGO taco meal. Was recommended by hotel staff. Arrived, and was told the coupon was good for all but the duck confit tacos, so happily ordered blackened salmon and carne asada. Also ordered 2 margaritas and some ceviche, a $14.00 appetizer! Drinks were worse than slow, and place was not busy. Was told bartender was new, and apologized for delay. Tacos arrived, minus any sides, and was told rice or beans were an extra $4.00. Passed. Tacos were actually quite good, and live music was good, so we ordered another couple margaritas. Well, finally asked for our bill and I reminded her of the coupon. She comes back and says she's sorry, but the coupon is expired. I literally was given the coupon 5 days earlier, so I questioned, of course, and there was in fact a deadline; the coupon was only good for the weekend of Iditarod, the busiest weekend in anchorage (good luck getting into ANY restaurant)! She apologized and said it wouldn't work. A $12.00 taco meal... Yeah, we we're NOT happy, and I explained that I showed her the coupon before even placing first order. We not only bought $40.00 in drinks, a $14.00 app, but now she couldn't even honor a taco dinner coupon merely 2 days expired? I went right back to concierge at The Voyager, who had initially recommended, and he also believed they should have honored, as well as my friend/owner of the Slippery Salmon restaurant. These are locals and they are now aware that the customer service was completely sub par, and both will no longer recommend Tequila 61 to visitors. A coupon to ramp of business is a great idea, but to see it, and then not honor it after a meal.... No!! Tacos and ceviche were not bad, but customer service was horrid, and service was slow. Sorry, Tequila 61, no recommendation from me or my friends in Anchorage! read more

Amazing food and service i had just sat down and i was immediately given water and handed menus and was asked what we wanted for drinks and when I ordered my food they asked specific questions about how I wanted my food unlike other places. read more

Tried this place with another couple and really enjoyed the atmosphere and decor. The restaurant feels like one you would find in the downtown of a bigger city. Drinks were great. The margarita with the ginger base was one of the best I've had. We really enjoyed the shrimp tacos and the scallops. The plate sizes aren't huge, so you can end up spending quite a bit depending on how you order. The quality was high and we enjoyed the creative menu. read more

(4/6/18) Visiting my daughter who's just returned from deployment (Air Force). She raved about the duck tacos. The hostess took one look at us and her demeanor changed from pleasant to sour. I know that look...One daughter has a big curly afro and the other was wearing a beanie. All the sudden the foyer had become "too dark" for her liking. She asked if we had a reservation and my daughter replied are reservations required? She spewed back "no, but it is a Friday". I thought well damn...It's only 5pm plus the website extends an open invitation to enjoy their happy hour. She said "one moment" - disappeared to the back and came back with a manager (I assume)! He was a man of color with curly hair. He looked at us, smiled, greeted us and told her to seat us. Now all of the sudden she had availability. She scoffed "follow me". Upon entering the dining area I saw several open tables and the bar had plenty of seating. Wasn't full at all! Bad service & disrespect doesn't fly with me but I didn't want to spoil our time together. I'm proud that they sensed it too. My daughter and I have served our country (military). It is disgusting to be disrespected based on appearances. We decided to spend our money elsewhere. We left and walked across the street to Hard Rock Cafe where the hostess greeted us like she was happy to have us and the service/ food was great. Being from Texas I wasn't missing anything...Tequila and tacos is what we do best! read more

Flavorless tacos and margaritas; I tried the salmon tamarindo & al pastor tacos. Neither had a punch of flavor, like Mexican food should have. The quetzal margarita was not good. Also the restrooms had trash all over the floor. Our server was doing his best to keep up but they obviously need more help. I was disappointed overall, will not return. read more

Did not expect to find good tacos in Alaska. But guess what, we did!! Awesome and creative tacos. Nicely priced -- especially on Taco Tuesday. read more

We have been here three times and ordered the same thing each time. Groucho steak with a side of veggie skewers. It just keeps getting better each time. We were told there is a new chef this time. Great changes! Of course the margaritas are also awesome!! read more

Horrible horrible service! We just left after sitting for over 20 mins with no service. We had to wave someone down after 15 mins just to get water which we were treated like an inconvenience . we saw atleast 3 servers and only about 6 tables to serve . read more

Great happy hour and dinner menus. Chorizo empanadas came with the most delicious chipotle sauce. Rice and beans that came with the enchilada entree were well seasoned. Chicken enchiladas soooo flavorful. Was just sad that I couldn't finish it all because it was a lot of food. Would definitely go again next time I visit ANC again read more

Food was okay, however extremely slow service . We ordered tacos and jalapeño poppers and they took a longtime

Great food, great service, and great atmosphere!! The unique, contemporary, and modern Mexican menu brings delight to an ambient setting that's enjoyable to the taste buds. The DJ also created a smooth, harmonic balance to the atmosphere as well. A job well done makes many happy customers. I will be going back again to this new Alaskan gem! read more

I came here during lunch, party of 4. The only appetizer option was chips & guacamole. Unfortunately, they used sweet patatoe chips, which we all agreed tasted burnt & just not good. The guac was delicious though. They really aught to use, or atleast add, a regular tortilla chips option. The coconut jicama tacos were very delicious, and not filling. My husband's duck tacos, seemed like beef, to us both, but we let that go, they were good, whatever they were. Our server said they use more tequila in their margaritas than other restaurants...I'm not sure about that. I don't drink, & the three of them agreed that their first drink was good, but not one of them felt a buzz after their second one, which is extremely rare for them. The Mexican brûlée was a tasty dessert. Service was okay, nothing special. We all agreed that we will try again, but for dinner. read more

My second time here. I came back specifically to try a certain item that was on the menu that was recommended to me. Unfortunately do to a large party they were hosting the bartender told me that she had been informed that they couldn't make the item I wanted. She went back and checked nonetheless for me and low and behold the owner came back and said they could make it for me. Great effort in going the extra distance for the customer. Service is great and I'm recommending it all my friends who come up to ANC. read more

Tequila 61 has the type of food foodies enjoy, and the drinks are amazing too! I recommend the Zazu.

I have been here a few times and overall think it's a pretty good place to come back to.....until tonight. Went on a double date with another couple and my fiancé wasn't sure what he wanted to drink. After everyone else had already gotten a round he put in his order for a draft beer. 20 minutes went by of conversation before we realized that he hadn't gotten his beer so we politely reminded the waitress. She apologized and said she would get it right away. 10 minutes went by. No beer. We ended up asking the bartender for one and we had to remind her a third time to grab the drink. I really thought it was a joke and we were on hidden camera. It was slow and we really feel like there was no reason for her to be so absent minded. Especially because it was a basic draft beer. We ended up ordering some food which I was confused by. I ordered chicken carnitas and mole and what came out was pounded chicken breast... whole and the mole was...eh. By that time we were finished with our round of drinks and she asked us if we'd like another. Everyone declined other than my fiancé who opted for another beer.... or AND SHE FORGOT IT AGAIN!! Another server ended up seeing it and just giving the beer to us. I'm sure he's used to picking up her slack. Disappointed because I've really been talking this place up. This was our friends first experience and they will never come back. I feel that if we come back in the future we will forgo the food and just have drinks at the bar. read more

Ate here while in town for work. I had the tacos al pastor. They were very good. But you really need to eat all of the components together. It is a well balanced dish. If you push the cilantro to the side like garnish it really throws off the taste of the dish. As I was a solo diner I had to eat at the bar. The bartender was was nice and service was good but I would have liked a table. There was live music but it was directly behind me so difficult to watch and enjoy. read more

Tried many things on the menu and all were exceptional. Sushi Mignon was out of this world. Staff was attentive and kind. Great decor and atmosphere. This place should do very well! read more

This has been the worst experience I have had at an Alaskan restaurant by far. As it wasn't enough being talked down to by the staff they would not allow us to get a drink at the bar. They told us we can either gets the drink and gets off the list, or waits for our table without a drink! The expected wait time was 2.5 hrs! read more

Absolutely horrible! Only giving it one star bc I can't give it a zero. They seated smaller groups ahead of us bc their kitchen would be "too overwhelmed" with 10 guests and refused to seat us as 2 groups of 5 bc it would cheat the other guests..We will be sure to tell future customers to never eat here as their hostess were so rude and unprofessional. #tequilatrash read more

Fun atmosphere, very nice staff, good food. We went for taco Tuesday and was pretty pleased with 50% off our tacos. The queso was a little strange... just a plate of mostly melted, viscous cheese with a giant roasted pepper splayed out on top. It came with four small corn tortillas, instead of chips, and they were rather greasy. Not the easiest thing to eat. My veggie tacos were excellent though. read more

Initially I was going to give this place 5 stars after my first 3 or 4 visits but unfortunately my last few have really left a bad taste in my mouth both literally and figuratively. The food was fantastic when I first went but the consistency seems to be going downhill really quickly. Everything was obviously fresh the first few meals but the last 3 times have been less than stellar. I ordered a salad with Ahi tuna and it came out fully cooked which was odd. I asked about it and the waitress said that's how they normally cook it which is very strange if you're not familiar with this type of fish. Normally it's seared so after I commented she double checked with the kitchen and it turns out they were supposed to sear it. It still tasted fine so I didn't really make any further comments but she was kind enough to have them cook a second piece of fish. After getting the second piece I realized why they cooked it all the way through. The Tuna was obviously old and definitely past it's expiration date. Without going into a lot of detail I can tell you I had quite a few stomach issues after that. On previous occasions I had the duck tacos but again, the quality/freshness of the food seems to have gone down hill. While they started out great, it was definitely greasy and just dripping with oil on the last visit. The last issue I have is the atmosphere, I feel like they're trying too hard to be like every other restaurant. They used to have great Latin music during lunch but have switched to some weird techno all day/every day which I'm not really into. It doesn't make sense and I feel like they're trying too hard to be trendy. I think they just need to be themselves and they would be far more interesting. The only saving grace I've seen so far are the margaritas, they're consistently good if not a bit expensive. I hope they turn it around because at the moment I feel like they're sacrificing quality and originality for profits and trying to fit in. read more

Very good service! Slightly expensive where I come from tacos are $1.50. The service was good the food was amazing! The drinks were good and so we're the appetizers. The sweet horchata cornbread is a must try best dessert I have ever had. We definitely will be back. read more

This is the best place for Mexican food in Alaska. Always great service and the margaritas are amazing.

Fun atmosphere good food and drinks excellent server such a great dinner! I have been recommending to everyone and all have loved it! We shared the carne asada, jicama shrimp, carnitas, Baja, popcorn shrimp, brownie dessert, cornbread dessert, plus almost all the tequila drinks everything was awesome! Our server even removed our brownie dish from the check because it was really dried out. I would definitely go back! read more

Stopped for lunch the other day. Place was empty. Usually Not a good sign. We decided to stay anyway. We were pleasantly surprised. While entrees were a little pricey, they were beautifully prepared and very tasty. There guacamole and was very good. Salsas were ok. Definitely would come back again. read more

Perhaps it was an off night for the cooks, or maybe it is just how the dishes are prepared. The duck Thai rolls were overcooked, dripping in grease, gummy not crisp. The beef carpaccio was done poorly. The beef was thin and melted in your mouth, I wouldn't know what the flavor was as the balsamic reduction and olive oil overpowered, a heavy hand on these items, it was drenched, swimming in it. I suggest using a high quality olive oil, use a shaker instead of a free pour, eliminate the balsamic, and use fresh ground pepper and sea salt or maybe the Alaska Spruce tip sea salt and capers. The Sushi Mignon was ok but just ok, It is a good idea but again execution is lacking. I suggest getting the pan very hot or use cast iron, sear that meat fast, it was not seared it seemed almost like it was baked, a crispy sear with salt and pepper would make this dish better. The sweet potato chips are nice but quite a few were gummy and stuck together, not crisp, cooking in smaller batches ensuring they do not stick together would be the way to go. I did like the Shrimp Ceviche, it was sweet and tart, the shrimp was very soft, almost melt in your mouth, the thin strips of cucumber really added a brightness. This dish was worth the price, delicious and rather generous in size. The guacamole was also a pleasant surprise, had a little bit of heat which was nice, very fresh and had that citrus tang which keeps it bright green, I did like that it was served with the sweet potato chips. I would also suggest the honey chipotle dressing on any salad but it is served with the Mariner salad, fresh frisee lettuce, candied walnuts, greek olives, parm shreds (I would suggest using parm curls, just bigger or make a parm cracker and serve on top, baby tomatoes. I think this same dressing is the sauce on the popcorn shrimp but since I did not order I can not be certain. All in all it was ok, the music loud, making the restaurant loud. Our server could have been more attentive and really needs some confidence, she was timid, not able to make a suggestion when asked. One beer, 1 margarita, 2 salads, guacamole, ceviche, carpaccio, sushi mignon (6 pieces), thai rolls (3 split) bill total $109, it is about right for downtown. I have mixed feelings, I will probably go back at lunch to see if there is a difference. I would not go back for dinner unless friends want to or I am invited to meet people there. read more

One of the best restaurants in Anchorage. Not the typical mexican restaurant with boring dishes and rice and beans. We had the scallops, guacamole, and the duck tacos. Everything was out of this world and the service was on point. read more

My new favorite place in Anchorage. If you love Mexican food on the more authentic side, this is your place! Eddie has been my waiter on both visits and he is an excellent guide through the menu. The margaritas are really good.. no mixes here. They're a nice change from the syrupy sweet margaritas usually found in AK restaurants. The crema soup is to die for! Fresh corn, mushrooms and crema. I love it in the summer, I'm seeing myself really loving it in the winter. The tortilla soup is also really good. Everything tastes fresh. Portions are moderate, more like tapas.. not the gut bust people have come to expect at other Mexican joints. I've had the coconut shrimp tacos (amazing, the tortilla is a big slice of jicima), the carnitas tacos(best I've ever had including in Arizona and New Mexico) but the stanout were the duck tacos (I would have NEVER ordered these..be brave, try something new.. you will be so surprised). My friend and I tried the brownie and it was amazing! Homemade fudgy brownie (sorry cakey brownie lovers) with walnuts and housemade cookie crumble with homemade ice cream on the side. BEST follow-up to dinner. Eddie, our waiter, said everything is house made with local ingredients (as available..it's Alaska, kids). Try this place out!! read more

The service was great, the waitress was super friendly and timed the order well. 3 stars coz the dish my wife ordered was not great, it was bland and she didn't like the oily onion on top of her dish in the name of caramelized onion. I liked the ambiance and the location. read more

We had a very enjoyable experience at Tequila 61°. The decor alone was worth the visit, but the food and service were also top-notch. Our visit was on a Friday night, and the noise levels were lively, as was the hip crowd. We tried two of their signature cocktails--the spicy margarita and the tropical margarita--both were excellent. read more

Guac and chips were solid. Had duck and salmon tacos, duck was a bit dry but the salmon was good. Only complaint was the blinding sun that came in thru the windows. Owners could seriously invest in window shades or tint to help block out the sun, particularly by the front entrance. read more

Pretentious and way overpriced. This ain't NYC nor do we want it to be. Pretty chrome chairs, pretty people. The food, however, wasn't so pretty. My Thai rolls were deep fried pieces of crap. My husband's chicken "large" plate of chicken enchilada was half burnt. The ridiculous overpriced margaritas were good, but tiny. Don't eat here, go down the road to another Mexican restaurant. Never again. read more
