Today we had an awesome lunch at 49th st brewing. We arrived at the location and noticed a line out the door....not good. We waited to give our name and was told it would be at least a half hour wait, I said that's fine and we went into the bar for a drink. We were given a buzzer. I went to taste a beer and in no more than 5 min I got a message that our table was ready.... Great news. Adam was our waiter who took great care of us. He was patient and educated us about the menu. I ordered the roasted salmon over couscous which was delicious. My wife had the halibut fish n chips which was soo delicious. Our friends ordered the fish tacos which were amazing and the Halibut burger which they both enjoyed! Everything was amazing and delicious! read more

We had to stop by given all the recommendations we got when arriving in Alaska! I was a bit skeptical being vegetarian if we'd find much to eat. They had a few options and they did them really well. The street corn and Spicy Buddha bowl were both vegan and so good! The bowl in particular is huge! The bowl is not spicy contrary to its title. You can get the chili powder on the side. Could be shared between two people. Tables are hard to get but the first floor has open seating if you can snag some spots. We were on a 1 hour waitlist for Tuesday night! Decided to just sit along the wall, which is sort of like bar seating. A bit challenging to balance plates on small wooden ledges. Also hard to figure out who our server was or where to get a menu. Once we visited the front checkin they noted a server would join us soon. Normally wait staff brings you water or refills glasses. Here we had water bottles at the table but had to request cups. Again, just took more time to track down a server and get things. The restaurant is spacious with an upstairs level and private party room. Feels like a mix between a rustic bar and tavern. read more

Food: awesome (Alaskan clam chowder highly recommended, halibut and chips were great, beers were a perfect compliment). Service: good, though we were forgotten for a bit. Hostess: awful. After receiving a text that a table was ready, and after being seated, another hostess challenged us and asked who seated us. Even asked for a name (as if that's an expectation). After a strange standoff, I showed the hostess the text message. She responded by saying "well I guess you're at the right table" and stormed off. No apology, no explanation, just a juvenile on a power trip. Bizarre. read more

Best view for a dinner ever!!!! Got the halibut and the Crab grilled cheese. The crab grilled cheese is definitely a must try, but it is heavy. Very good though. The halibut! Delicious...... (hate to put this in a review, you won't go wrong getting the halibut but F street Bar wins on which I thought was best- and it's way cheaper- but you don't have the view at F street bar) so WIN/WIN. Cool brewery. Lots of levels with amazing views. Convenient location. Plenty of seating. They even have merch. You can also grab their beers in store. So if don't want to stay and eat can still swing by yo grab their beers. We sat at too level. There are many different ones and lots of great scenery. The flowers are beautiful. We ordered beer that was okay. Also had a Paloma that was meh. Ordered the flatbread with reindeer sausage and some other meat and that was tasty. Mac and cheese was also good. Huge, vibrant brewpub with a water view and outdoor patio. Lots of interesting beers and cocktails. We sat on the upper patio at the bar - bartender was friendly and helpful. It did start raining while we were there and unfortunately the bar does not have any cover to it, but it added to the experience. We had a salmon bowl and the crab grilled cheese. I loved this place. First time here, first time in Alaska, actually. My gf is vegan and we were looking for somewhere that could accommodate her dietary needs and found 49th State Brewing. She got the Vegan Buddha Bowl, I got the Mt. Magnificent burger, and we shared the Mexican street corn. Everything was exceptional. Her strawberry lemonade was delicious, I got a hard cider- we were both happy. We skipped dessert because the food we ordered was already more than enough. I want to give a special shout-out to Forrester. This guy --- amazing. Knowledgeable about the menu, quick to give me his opinion when I asked for it (without me feeling like I'm being upsold) attentive to our needs and patient while we made our decisions. The man excels in communication and hospitality. I don't know what you're paying him but he deserves more. I watched him serve multiple tables at once including a massive party of 12-15 people and at no point did I feel as though we were neglected. By the end of our meal I flagged him down to make sure he knew what an exceptional job he did for us while juggling half a dozen other parties at the same time. I normally tip 20-25%, 15% for bad service -- Forrester got 40% from me. If you go here make sure you ask for him. read more

We actually visited this brewery twice, so I'm kind of combining both experiences into one review. The first time we stopped by on a Friday, and the place was absolutely packed. There were just too many people, so we decided to grab dinner elsewhere and come back another day. The next afternoon, we returned hoping for a less crowded experience, and we're glad we did. The female hosts were very friendly and let us know the rooftop bar had just opened, so of course we had to check it out! The bartenders were all wicked chill, and the views from upstairs were amazing. We loved the unique beer flavors and combinations, and the flight options let us sample quite a variety. Although we didn't try any food, they do have a food menu available. The entire place was very clean, which we appreciated. There is metered street parking both in the front and behind the building, so if you can't find a spot out front, be sure to check the back street. Overall, we highly recommend this brewery if you're visiting the area and would definitely stop by again! read more

The halibut and chips is no joke. They take the fries just as seriously as the fish and both are prepared to perfection. Along with a decadent tartar sauce, it's no wonder this place draws huge crowds. Add in the delicious and unique brews and we ate at this restaurant 3 out of 4 days of our trip (only because the airport kitchen was closed down did we not eat there 4/4 days). Pro Tip: instead of waiting an hour for a table, search the first floor which is open seating and try to snag something there. read more

Stopped in for lunch between our cruise drop off and flight departure. The place was hopping on a Monday afternoon (Memorial Day). It was "seat yourself," and we found a two top. The servers seemed a little new, but the service was good and friendly. They carry Frontier brand sodas which we found to be excellent for their flavor. We got root beer and ripe raspberry soda. I ordered the Chili AK Salmon Bowl which our server confirmed is wild salmon. My wife ordered the Pulled Pork Sandwich with fries. Both meals were really good. I especially liked the sauce on the salmon bowl so much so that I asked for a little more only to be charged for the extra sauce. I also noticed they include a service charge on the bill (note that this was not gratuity). They told us it was to help them get seasonal labor and to cover overhead. Maybe this is an Alaska thing, but with menu prices as high as these, why would you need to add a service charge? Pricing and nickel & diming aside, I would recommend this place. read more

My new favorite brewery. This place has something for everyone! First off, they have one of the best NA beers I've ever had. I combined it with the best pretzel I've ever had. I ended up going back two more times during my stay. They have indoor and outdoor, main restaurant and two roof tops, savory and sweet (they serve ice cream outside) and they even had live music. It will be the first place I visit on my return to Anchorage. Well done! They make their own soda and have a nice gift shop as well. read more

Outstanding experience here last night. This was a business dinner, and although it was very busy with a long line, we were treated with amazing hospitality, which made the wait for a table completely worthwhile. This also went with the great customer service experience, very attentive even though every table taken, very impressive. The lime seltzer water is a must if you do not drink. It's our first time in Anchorage and decided to go to dinner to one of the most popular restaurants in Downtown Anchorage and now I know why it's so popular. Heads up, this place usually has 1 to 1.5 hour wait to get seated. We went around 8:45pm and were already slowing down so we got seated on the second floor terrace in 30 min. The view is amazing from there. We started off with an appetizer which was the crab spinach and artichoke dip. I think it's a must have. It was so delicious and probably one of the best I've eaten. For the main course I had the 49th state fish n chips. Considered the best in Anchorage and I see why. It was perfectly fried with the right amount of batter, crisp and the fish super tender. I loved it. My wife and daughter shared the salmon which they really enjoyed and my son ordered the baked Mac-n-cheese. Got to try it and it was also delicious. To drink I had a hard cider, my wife had the Belgium Dall which I tried some and I usually don't like beer but that one was tasty. My daughter ordered a strawberry lemonade which she enjoyed and my son ordered a root beer that a local place makes. And for Dessert we ordered the chocolate cream pie. Even the dessert was delicious. I'm so glad we got there at the perfect time with a pretty short wait. Once again the line is usually long to be seated because the food and ambiance is spectacular. We wanted a local dinner before departing out quick trip to the city. Glad we found this spot on yelp. Massive space in downtown, we had a awesome time eating on the outside upper patio protected from light rain by umbrellas. Super busy on this Sunday, I imagine with cruise traffic it's not unusual. We arrived at 4pm and had a 20 minute wait for a table of 8. While waiting we enjoyed the nitro stout and their blonde lager. Staff were friendly and informative. We tried their most popular options which were the yak burger and Krabby grilled cheese sandwich. Both were delicious and massive portions. Would consider starting with sharing portions. Kids loved their signature burgers orders. For my second beer I really enjoyed the Smok lager, really very smoky and massive pour. Highly recommend this spot read more

Stopped in for some lunch as the crab sandwich was recommended by Jesse our tour guy! We had that and the Wrangell burger , both were delicious! Elk burger is filling and seasoned perfectly while the crabby is ample and we shared both 1/2 each ! We also tried the local sodas they make. Blueberry cream soda and Rootbeer! My friends and I started with the crab and artichoke appetizer which was nice and similar to a spinach artichoke dish. I then got the yak burger, which was really good. I was worried the yak meat would be gamey, but there were a lot of sauces on the burger and at the end it just tasted like beef. The burger is big and messy in the best way possible, and the fries were good! The fry sauce is a mix of bbq and some other sauces which was tasty. Four levels from two rooftop decks to inside seating meant tons of room to find a table. As a solo traveler this was an amazing stop. I didn't have to wait at all as I could sit by the bar to order food and drinks. Average wait for a party was 30-45 mins when busy. The Halibut dish was phenomenal. Absolutely loved the sauce on the vegetables and the Parmesan crust on it. I also love that this bar does flights. Able to try a variety of different beers and ciders for a good price. They offer a small side of caramel popcorn with your drinks. The artichoke crab dish was delicious but a particular flavor. Have to love crab and the sourness of the artichoke to fully enjoy it. I did miss that it didn't come with any chips. Instead it came with pita bread. I was missing that crunch value. This restaurant for food is a little bit more on the pricier size for entrees. Roughly $35 and up. Appetizers are the cheaper option around $15. read more

In Anchorage for my baby daddy's work trip and was craving fish and chips. I saw all the good ratings on here and wasn't expecting to experience such horrible service. Right when we entered it was a question of whether we would like to sit upstairs or if you chose to sit downstairs it was first come first serve with any empty table you find. The hostess was very adamant with telling us if we chose to sit at the long wooden table downstairs that we must sit at only the ends of the table. Weird but ok...considering the long table was completely empty during our entire visit. So we sat down and never saw a server come to our table. My baby daddy went to tell someone that we were ready to order and they said they would find our server. When our server came to us, his name was Ryan. He couldn't look me in the eyes and you could tell he was annoyed that he had to work. Never asked us if we wanted anything to drink. He also messed up a small modification in our order and when my baby daddy asked about it he was mumbling things and walked away. He was definitely a little off to me or maybe just hates his job? The fish and chips were decent. They came out warm not hot which is a first for me with fish and chips. The fries were bland and a little limp lol. The sauces with the fish and chips were good. The batter wasn't as crispy as I hoped. Oh and they didn't give me my side of coleslaw that was supposed to come with my meal but I didn't realize it until later. I will say their Wedge salad was pretty darn tasty. Their sandwiches come with fries but you don't get a bunch of fries. One of our guys has the salad and to add a skewer of steak the cost was $19 which I thought was rather steep. Overall the food was really good, I would definitely come back. Packed house, amazing vibe, and great service! There was a long line, but we luckily grabbed two seats at the bar. They have an awesome selection of beers, cocktails, and mocktails. The food was spectacular. The fish and chips featured perfectly crunchy, buttery, and flaky seasoned halibut (the absolute star of the night), though the fries were good too. A little bit of a wait for the second floor seating, but we chose the first come first serve option for the first floor seating. We ordered the crab grilled cheese, yak burger and a classic flight of beer. All of them were delicious. The fries that came with both entrees were tasty and so was the chowder that came with the grilled cheese. Suggested by our hotel front desk clerk, the brewery was a 10 minute semi-uphill walk from our hotel to downtown Anchorage. The place was buzzing with dining patrons, but we managed to get a seat around 8pm on the first level. The food was very good. Got the seafood chowder, cheeseburger with fries and halibut with coleslaw & fries. Hubby was hungry, he finished his plate clean. Enjoyed the clam chowder, rich, creamy & comforting. The place was pretty full up, families, couples, etc. serious buzz in the place. The team behind the bar, was amazing. Stopped in for fish & chips and local beer. I'm so glad I did! I had halibut, and it was excellent. Light, crispy batter, and tender fish with no fishy taste! I'm glad that they had beer flights because I was unable to decide what kind I wanted. With some assistance from the bartender I chose 4 beers and every single one of them was wonderful. I would absolutely go back if I'm ever in Anchorage again. It does get a little bit loud and it gets very crowded so be prepared to either wait, or sit at the bar. It is open seating, you check in at the host stand and they'll give you a menu and you just find a place to sit. All in all it was a wonderful time and the food was great. I calculated our meal cost before paying and it was around $5 higher on the bill presented than what it was listed on the menu.
