we arrived at 1045 and sat at the bar. we had 15 minutes to order food. bartender was friendly. I got the fish and chips and it was yummy. I was a fab of their spruce tip blonde ale. they didn't make us feel rushed even though we came at the end of the evening. read more

Really enjoyed my dinner at 49th State Brewing! I opted for the stew, which I surprisingly could find little pictures of via Yelp or online. It was slow cooked in a cider with carrots & a large dollop of garlic smashed potatoes. I got the side order of bread with it, which went perfectly! It was divine! Not gamey for those who may be more sensitive to that flavor. It was the perfect hearty meal for a cold day. I'm not a beer drinker, so instead I opted for the birch beer soda! It was delicious & I loved that I was able to opt for a local drink and flavors. Highly recommend! read more

Every bus driver and local recommended this place. I think because they don't want you to go where the locals go. The food was cold, flavorless, and expensive. The drinks were good. Our waiter was nice and attentive. The place was packed with a line out the door. I'm sure you can find a better place to eat. I've been told by my friends I was too harsh. Revised to 3 stars. read more

I love this place! We came here 3x when visiting Anchorage. The first night and the last night twice! lol. 49th was the only place open late and it had tons of seating, from the indoor dining, bar dining, roof top dining to the casual outdoor food truck area. The first night we dined in their bar area, which is first come first serve. They were super busy even at 9pm! We ordered the seafood chowder, it was thick, had some salmon pieces in it. A real seafood chowder and not just clams, it was tasty. For me, I ordered their king salmon with couscous, some veggies, and a tzatziki sauce. It was good. I liked mine better than my friends who ordered a parm crusted halibut, and lots of vegetables. Hers was a bit dry. My old fashion that I got was terrible. It was all watered down and horribly made. Someone needs bartending classes. Stick with their beers or house made hard seltzers or sparkling water. I did get their frontier grapefruit sparkling water and it was awesome. Our second time, I really wanted a reindeer sausage, and to my luck, they had one at the food truck area. We like the food truck area better, it was laid back, live music, some bar games, nice weather outside and even an ice cream truck too. The sausage came with caramelized onions and bacon. It satisfied my reindeer sausage cravings. For drinks, I got their tundra berry (blackberry cloudberry) hard seltzer and it was so good! I loved it. We came back after dinner and I got their other 2 hard seltzers, glacier gold (pineapple white strawberry) and tropic chill (guava raspberry). I could only drink half of each since I was so full from dinner. But I enjoyed it and wish they sold it in California! One of the best hard seltzers I've had. It's so bubbly and you can taste fruit without it being sweet. I'll definitely come back if I were in Alaska. read more

We grabbed some lunch at 49th State Brewing. First level is first come, first serve. Second level- check in with the host. Usually a wait. Service is great. Friendly and fast. Everyone seems to be from another country so pretty interesting. They have everything to drink. We tried a couple of their beers- both were great. Food was good. Their Yak burger is amazing! Never tried Yak before but loved the burger. Caesar salad was tasty. Added salmon and it was pretty dry but still good. Beautifully decorated. They even have a little fire pit inside. Very cool. Great view of the sound, as well. read more

Great bar food, and service was pretty fast for a busy Friday afternoon. I tried the yak burger and the s'mores dessert to share with the table. Plenty of tv's so ideal for a sports night. Very thematic if you want to immerse yourself in the Alaska sports bar scene. Food was great for bar food read more

We had to stop by given all the recommendations we got when arriving in Alaska! I was a bit skeptical being vegetarian if we'd find much to eat. They had a few options and they did them really well. The street corn and Spicy Buddha bowl were both vegan and so good! The bowl in particular is huge! The bowl is not spicy contrary to its title. You can get the chili powder on the side. Could be shared between two people. Tables are hard to get but the first floor has open seating if you can snag some spots. We were on a 1 hour waitlist for Tuesday night! Decided to just sit along the wall, which is sort of like bar seating. A bit challenging to balance plates on small wooden ledges. Also hard to figure out who our server was or where to get a menu. Once we visited the front checkin they noted a server would join us soon. Normally wait staff brings you water or refills glasses. Here we had water bottles at the table but had to request cups. Again, just took more time to track down a server and get things. The restaurant is spacious with an upstairs level and private party room. Feels like a mix between a rustic bar and tavern. read more

Good customer service, good view, nice ambiance. Halibut sandwich was quite dry, we were told it was juicy... Good sodas, the getting enjoyed it. The fish and chips is all the hype, very yummy and flakey! The grilled cheese was good, the bread was harder than I thought though. I'd recommend this for groups and it's in a great part of downtown. It's good for Alaska, the food overall for the group was 7/10. read more

Pros: -friendly staff -cozy ambience -fun beer flavors and unique Alaskan food items -honestly, some of the best food we have had while in Anchorage (many other spots are underwhelming) Cons: -food isn't as great / juicy as the staff and locals make it out to be -long wait times for food -menu for flights is confusing and lack of pricing makes it difficult to gauge your cost Despite the cons, I still think this place has some of the best food in the area. I would highly recommend you stick to the top items like fried halibut (get three because they are small) because it was amazing and grab some chowder! Other items like the crab burger were dry. read more

Today we had an awesome lunch at 49th st brewing. We arrived at the location and noticed a line out the door....not good. We waited to give our name and was told it would be at least a half hour wait, I said that's fine and we went into the bar for a drink. We were given a buzzer. I went to taste a beer and in no more than 5 min I got a message that our table was ready.... Great news. Adam was our waiter who took great care of us. He was patient and educated us about the menu. I ordered the roasted salmon over couscous which was delicious. My wife had the halibut fish n chips which was soo delicious. Our friends ordered the fish tacos which were amazing and the Halibut burger which they both enjoyed! Everything was amazing and delicious! read more

Best view for a dinner ever!!!! Got the halibut and the Crab grilled cheese. The crab grilled cheese is definitely a must try, but it is heavy. Very good though. The halibut! Delicious...... (hate to put this in a review, you won't go wrong getting the halibut but F street Bar wins on which I thought was best- and it's way cheaper- but you don't have the view at F street bar) so WIN/WIN. Either way. I can't wait to come back to 49th state brewery and enjoy more food and more view! Oh the bread pudding!!!! Finally found a good one. This is the best bread pudding I have had in years!!! Excellent good and service and drinks! Truly a gem in the middle of downtown Alaska. We stopped here very unsuspectingly while trying to kill time between our flight and cruise. So many good options and unique stuff! We wanted to try everything but opted for cauliflower wings , crab stuffed jalapenos, halibut tacos and elk burger. Chill and welcoming vibe. Would definitely come here again and recommend read more

Cool brewery. Lots of levels with amazing views. Convenient location. Plenty of seating. They even have merch. You can also grab their beers in store. So if don't want to stay and eat can still swing by yo grab their beers. We sat at too level. There are many different ones and lots of great scenery. The flowers are beautiful. We ordered beer that was okay. Also had a Paloma that was meh. Ordered the flatbread with reindeer sausage and some other meat and that was tasty. Mac and cheese was also good. A great place for a meal or just to hang for sure. Service was amazing. Very accommodating and super friendly!!! read more

Huge, vibrant brewpub with a water view and outdoor patio. Lots of interesting beers and cocktails. We sat on the upper patio at the bar - bartender was friendly and helpful. It did start raining while we were there and unfortunately the bar does not have any cover to it, but it added to the experience. We had a salmon bowl and the crab grilled cheese. Both were huge portions and delicious, salmon chowder that came with the crab grilled cheese was especially delicious! read more

The atmosphere of the restaurant was fun. Neatly decorated and a great 2nd floor patio. Lots of drinks to choose from. While you wait for a table, you can enjoy food and drink from a beer trailer and ice cream from a trailer beside it. Rows of picnic tables and Adirondack chairs await - making it a nice waiting experience. The food adequate but overpriced. Overall a good experience. read more

We chose this place based on yelp and google. Our server was a young man named Jan. He was knowledgeable about the menu and drinks. He was friendly and took good care of us. I had the burger and it was delicious! That's saying something since I'm not a big meat eater. My hubby had salmon and couscous. He said it was good. We topped our meal with blackberry crème brûlée. It was so good! Definitely recommend. Choose to walk in and find your own table rather than wait. read more

We actually visited this brewery twice, so I'm kind of combining both experiences into one review. The first time we stopped by on a Friday, and the place was absolutely packed. There were just too many people, so we decided to grab dinner elsewhere and come back another day. The next afternoon, we returned hoping for a less crowded experience, and we're glad we did. The female hosts were very friendly and let us know the rooftop bar had just opened, so of course we had to check it out! The bartenders were all wicked chill, and the views from upstairs were amazing. We loved the unique beer flavors and combinations, and the flight options let us sample quite a variety. Although we didn't try any food, they do have a food menu available. The entire place was very clean, which we appreciated. There is metered street parking both in the front and behind the building, so if you can't find a spot out front, be sure to check the back street. Overall, we highly recommend this brewery if you're visiting the area and would definitely stop by again! read more

Wow, this place was packed for lunch but we did get seated in about 25 minutes Alaska , party of six. Stopped in for lunch between our cruise drop off and flight departure. The place was hopping on a Monday afternoon (Memorial Day). It was "seat yourself," and we found a two top. The servers seemed a little new, but the service was good and friendly. They carry Frontier brand sodas which we found to be excellent for their flavor. We got root beer and ripe raspberry soda. I ordered the Chili AK Salmon Bowl which our server confirmed is wild salmon. My wife ordered the Pulled Pork Sandwich with fries. Both meals were really good. I especially liked the sauce on the salmon bowl so much so that I asked for a little more only to be charged for the extra sauce. I also noticed they include a service charge on the bill (note that this was not gratuity). They told us it was to help them get seasonal labor and to cover overhead. Maybe this is an Alaska thing, but with menu prices as high as these, why would you need to add a service charge? Pricing and nickel & diming aside, I would recommend this place. read more

The halibut and chips is no joke. They take the fries just as seriously as the fish and both are prepared to perfection. Along with a decadent tartar sauce, it's no wonder this place draws huge crowds. Add in the delicious and unique brews and we ate at this restaurant 3 out of 4 days of our trip (only because the airport kitchen was closed down did we not eat there 4/4 days). Pro Tip: instead of waiting an hour for a table, search the first floor which is open seating and try to snag something there. read more

I loved this place. First time here, first time in Alaska, actually. My gf is vegan and we were looking for somewhere that could accommodate her dietary needs and found 49th State Brewing. She got the Vegan Buddha Bowl, I got the Mt. Magnificent burger, and we shared the Mexican street corn. Everything was exceptional. Her strawberry lemonade was delicious, I got a hard cider- we were both happy. We skipped dessert because the food we ordered was already more than enough. I want to give a special shout-out to Forrester. This guy --- amazing. Knowledgeable about the menu, quick to give me his opinion when I asked for it (without me feeling like I'm being upsold) attentive to our needs and patient while we made our decisions. The man excels in communication and hospitality. I don't know what you're paying him but he deserves more. I watched him serve multiple tables at once including a massive party of 12-15 people and at no point did I feel as though we were neglected. By the end of our meal I flagged him down to make sure he knew what an exceptional job he did for us while juggling half a dozen other parties at the same time. I normally tip 20-25%, 15% for bad service -- Forrester got 40% from me. If you go here make sure you ask for him. read more

Outstanding experience here last night. This was a business dinner, and although it was very busy with a long line, we were treated with amazing hospitality, which made the wait for a table completely worthwhile. This also went with the great customer service experience, very attentive even though every table taken, very impressive. The lime seltzer water is a must if you do not drink. The burger was delicious, cooked properly. And fries were great. Great lively ambience, just an absolute pleasure. read more

I asked the waitress if any of the Frontier beverages had caffeine, because I wanted caffein. She said they all did, except for the root beer so my husband ordered a Birch beer and I ordered the blueberry cream soda. Both of them said "caffeine free" on the can. This was frustrating, but not big enough to complain. We were hungry, so we just decided to order. We ordered the crabby grilled cheese and he got the meat loaf. We waited a very long time for our food, the people who ordered burgers and halibut tacos less than two minutes before we ordered were done eating when our food finally showed up. It was completely cold. There was a skin on top of the cold chowder and every thing was rock hard, cold. Very disappointing. We own a large hospitality business and are often asked by our guests where to go for dinner. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be coming back anytime soon. read more

We wanted a local dinner before departing out quick trip to the city. Glad we found this spot on yelp. Massive space in downtown, we had a awesome time eating on the outside upper patio protected from light rain by umbrellas. Super busy on this Sunday, I imagine with cruise traffic it's not unusual. We arrived at 4pm and had a 20 minute wait for a table of 8. While waiting we enjoyed the nitro stout and their blonde lager. Staff were friendly and informative. We tried their most popular options which were the yak burger and Krabby grilled cheese sandwich. Both were delicious and massive portions. Would consider starting with sharing portions. Kids loved their signature burgers orders. For my second beer I really enjoyed the Smok lager, really very smoky and massive pour. Highly recommend this spot read more

Stopped in for some lunch as the crab sandwich was recommended by Jesse our tour guy! We had that and the Wrangell burger , both were delicious! Elk burger is filling and seasoned perfectly while the crabby is ample and we shared both 1/2 each ! We also tried the local sodas they make. Blueberry cream soda and Rootbeer! My friends and I started with the crab and artichoke appetizer which was nice and similar to a spinach artichoke dish. I then got the yak burger, which was really good. I was worried the yak meat would be gamey, but there were a lot of sauces on the burger and at the end it just tasted like beef. Four levels from two rooftop decks to inside seating meant tons of room to find a table. The staff was great, we had some of the best beer I have had in a long time, and the Halibut was fantastic, a 9.5/10!!! The food was awesome and the place is decorated nicely. The service could have been a little better due to the fact it took forever for the server to bring our to go containers. I will say their Wedge salad was pretty darn tasty. Their sandwiches come with fries but you don't get a bunch of fries. One of our guys has the salad and to add a skewer of steak the cost was $19 which I thought was rather steep. Overall the food was really good, I would definitely come back. For me a burger or sandwich would be for 2 meals. I did get the steak sandwich and that was really tasty. read more
