After looking for a dessert spot, I ran into this one in the hotel and I was greeted by the Most helpful and genuinely nice man. Come to find out he is the husband, and the wife is the one who makes all the chocolate. I got one from every case, they did not disappoint. It was delicious. read more

Aurora Chocolate - Lemon tart, salted caramel, mango milk Chocolate and rose water white chocolate - Chocolatiers & Shops Near Me - Anchorage, Alaska

The chocolates here are carefully made and also taste great. The taste is more pure and not muddied up with extra fillers and doesn't have a weird aftertaste. The spectrum of flavors are unique too and they have a milk or dark option for a majority of their flavors. In addition to the chocolate pieces there are other chocolate items such as chocolate covered fruit. The owner is very nice and friendly. He speaks about the chocolates his wife makes with such pride. It's great to support a local business. They also ship their goods during the winter season. read more

This chocolatier is located inside the Hotel Captain Cook, where we stayed...and I just had to check it out. Seems they specialized in these high-end chocolates inspired by the Aurora Borealis...and truly, these little chocolate balls were a work of art! Not only gorgeous, they were sensational...SO DELICIOUS! I can see why they have a perfect 5-star rating. Anyway, while we stayed at the hotel, I bought 2 batch of these chocolate balls...and I even convinced my husband to buy some to try. He did...and he agreed that they were sensational! THANK YOU!!! read more

This candy shop is located in the Captain Cook Hotel. It has some very high end chocolates that are inspired by the Aurora Borealis. Each one is hand painted and are delicious. Most of them come in either milk or dark chocolate. So, not only are they savory, but they are individual pieces of art. They also have caramel sticks, chocolate covered pretzels, truffles, oreos, and other delicious treats. But, I was on a mission to get the colorful aurora chocolate that I have heard so much about. Yes, they are pricey at over $3 a chocolate, but they are so delicious and worth it. The owner is a great salesman and is very friendly and helpful. He took time to explain how the chocolates are made and provided me with suggestions. The shop is somewhat small, but very clean. I saw that other reviewers were able to sample some. I must not have been that lucky, so make so you get your free samples when you do go. If you are in Anchorage, you must experience this chocolate. Art that you can eat. There is metered street parking nearby, as well as a few commercial parking lots. read more

I came here on my birthday to treat myself with some of the prettiest chocolates I have ever seen. This place is inside captain cook hotel. The hotel has several entrances so it might be a bit confusing to locate the exact spot. But you locate it, you ll be greeted with an array of gorgeous hand crafted chocolates you ll ever see. I sampled a few of them that included an aurora chocolate, a dark chocolate, an almond praline, hazel nut ball, white peppermint. Outside the aurora range, My favorite was the hazel nut. White peppermint was an interesting piece it had actual multicolored pepper corns in them. Aurora is $3.5 a piece. It is expensive but can't put a price on a rare skill and art. read more

Such a treat! We were staying at the Captain Cook Hotel and what a delight it was to discover a fun shop like this! Each piece, you can tell, was made with attention to detail. I loved each one that I tried but my favorite was the caramelized pear with saffron. This one was such a unique combo, but very well balanced! We loved it so much that we purchased a box to hand carry home! read more

I want to say a big WOW to this place. It is such a beautiful chocolate gallery shop. When I see the pole light inspired chocolates, they are unbelievable artistic and beautiful. I read about this chocolate store from YouTube videos and magazines, it is ranked the best chocolate in Alaska. I totally agree with that. I have been to a lot of chocolate shops in NYC. This is definitely comparable and I think it is one of most impressive chocolates. We picked some unique flavors, such as Yuzu, mango green tea, and bourbon. They are too beautiful to take the bite. But once you put into your mouth, you are feeling fall in love. read more

Aurora Chocolate - Gift box - Chocolatiers & Shops Near Me - Anchorage, Alaska

My husband and I came to Alaska for our honeymoon, and this was one of our favorite spots. To be honest, we didn't expect much at first because I'm not a fan of snobby chocolates (I like basic flavors). But wow, we were in for a surprise! We walked in the shop, and there was a gentleman at the counter who greeted us and explained the chocolates to us. It turns out he is the husband of the master chocolatier who makes the chocolates! Ingrid, his wife, runs the original shop at another location where she makes the chocolates, while the husband manages the hotel location. It was a pleasant surprise to find out the gentleman is a Korean, just like me and my husband. He shared with extensive detail how each of the chocolates are made and the painstaking (and almost impractical) process that his wife goes through to craft each piece of chocolate. And yes, they are gorgeous! But even more than just the appearance of the chocolates, I was blown away by the taste. Some flavor combinations sounded a little crazy, but they actually tasted good and suited even my basic chocolate palate. If you're in Alaska, this place is worth a visit because there truly is no other place like it. It is a bit pricey, but it is well worth the money in my opinion. read more

Aurora Chocolate - hand-painted chocolates - Chocolatiers & Shops Near Me - Anchorage, Alaska

These chocolates aren't just delicious, they are beautiful works of art. The owner was so nice and helpful. The place was immaculate too, they take a lot of pride in their shop and it shows. It's really hard to choose a favorite flavor so pick whatever calls to you. We purchased extra to bring to a family gathering and they were a big hit and disappeared quicker than we could say "aurora borealis." We can't wait to go back in July when we are back in the area. read more

I first learned about Sweet Chalet when I was preparing for my winter trip to Alaska. I stumbled upon an Indie Alaska video on Youtube featuring the owner Ingrid's northern lights-inspired chocolates: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MIbwX1LP-ZQ I was super excited to discover that she has a smaller shop inside the hotel that I'd be staying at. While I never made it to their main shop/factory and didn't get to meet Ingrid herself, her husband Jae who manned the shop at the hotel was super kind. I visited the shop twice - the first time to purchase only a few of the hand painted aurora borealis chocolates since they were pricey. I couldn't resist saving them for later; they were beautiful and delicious! On my last night at the hotel, I happened to walk by late in the evening and saw that Jae was about to close up his shop. I didn't have my wallet on me and he wasn't setup to charge my purchase to my room, so he said he'll stay and wait for me. I ran up to my room and returned with my wallet to purchase a small box of chocolates. He was very kind to share some travel advice and wished me luck on seeing the northern lights (which I was lucky to see on my last night in Alaska!). When he asked if I liked caramels, I said I don't. He said Ingrid's caramels are delicious and gifted me an assorted pack. He was right! They were the best caramels I've ever had. The caramels were soft and did not stick to my teeth. I loved the unique caramel flavors, especially the coffee flavored and lemon white chocolate flavored caramels. I had a wonderful trip to Alaska in the winter thanks to kind people that I met like Jae. read more

What a pleasant dessert shop hidden in a hotel!! My wife and I found this green to be one of our favorite stops during our honeymoon in Alaska. The chocolates were so carefully designed and made it was well worth the price you pay for them! Each chocolate, whether white or dark, was neither too sweet nor too bitter. I would say that a lot of places where the chocolate looks good they lack in flavor, but this place has mastered both! The owner of the shop was extremely kind and welcoming. Check this place out when you get the chance, you won't regret it! read more

I don't think there were any vegan options, but I wanted to give the glass chocolates a try. They were beautiful & tasty. The shop is clean & pretty. The employee is friendly. It's a good option for a last minute fancy gift if you're at Captain Cook or if you're craving chocolate for a night in at the hotel. Yes, they are expensive, but it's not every day that you come across such beautiful chocolate with wonderful taste. read more

Sweet Chalet is an Alaskan hidden gem that should be part of every food lover's must-visit list. I was traveling in Anchorage and had the pleasure of finding this chocolate-lovers' paradise inside the Captain Cook Hotel. The chocolates here are delicate morsels of delicious heaven that taste even better than they look. My personal favorites were the Earl Grey and passion fruit bonbons, but I'll probably be back again to try the rest because all the ones I've tried so far have been all-around amazing. If you ever get a chance to visit Anchorage do yourself a favor and check this place out. The chocolates are made in Anchorage so you'll also be supporting a local Alaskan business, which is pretty darn cool. Most of all, the quality and taste of the sweets here are completely unrivaled. Godiva tastes like Hershey's compared to SC chocolates, and that's being generous! read more

Handmade and delicious expensive yet in my opinion, worth it. Interesting location. Loved the chocolate dipped dried mango.

Always looking for new chocolate, I came across this place while on vacation. The chocolates are beautifully hand made and delicious. Bought a 65% bar as well, really good too. I was staying at the Captain Cook hotel and on my way to the lobby from my room, I passed by Aurora Chocolate. I guess I didn't notice it when I checked in but I saw how amazing and meticulous each of the chocolate pieces were. You can tell that each piece was carefully made. At first I saw how the aurora bon bons were and it looked extremely detailed. There was no way that it was hand painted but when I bought a few pieces and spoke with the owner, he surprised me and said they were! I knew my eyes weren't playing tricks on me. (thank you 20/20 vision). Anyways I bought a couple more of their petit fours as well. Overall, these were some of the best bon bons and petit fours I had because they weren't overwhelmingly sweet. You can definitely go for a box of them and even more because unlike others they don't cause tooth pain from eating a whole bunch of them. Glad to hear that they do shipping everywhere so I'll be looking forward to getting some for special occasions. read more
