First morning in Anchorage, we chose to try "The White Spot Cafe". The menu has some great selections, but due to dietary restrictions we settled on the breakfast sandwich. We selected the protein to be Reindeer Sausage, because...well, WE ARE in Anchorage after all! The service was prompt and efficient even though the dining room was relatively busy. This place is like a late sixties all American diner plopped down in the middle of town in 2026! Really a cordial place. I would normally score this a 5 star but frankly, I was disappointed in the meal presentation. There was only the bare naked sandwich on the plate. Was looking for a quick bite and stumbled across this local diner. Did read up about them while we were looking to order, and apparently this place is famous for its halibut sandwich. It definitely is a diner, and it definitely had a vibe that this was a local spot. We got our Famous Halibut Sandwich, and it didn't disappoint. It was delicious, the batter was light and crispy, the halibut was fresh and flaky, and all served in between some delectable sweet buns. They also served an assortment of drinks. We tried this mimosa sorbet thing that was surprisingly delicious. If you're in downtown Anchorage and need a quick bite and/or a quick drink, definitely stop by. The fish is not greasy nor the fries or onion rings! You would think everything was air fried! They tell me it's not but they use separate oil fryers for fish versus the veggies. We also checked out a Cupid reindeer chili! Made me want to eat chili more. Reindeer meat not distinctive but eh come back and try the reindeer hash if you must. Reindeer typically super lean. Incredible service from the moment we walked in. We were greeted by someone looking at us, not just arbitrarily calling out a greeting. Super clean, very homey. Old school style patty melt is off the chain! Housecut fries, perfection! The halibut sandwich is everything I wish and hope for. Not sloppy or wet, perfectly prepared. Again, the fries! The grill is right out in the open, the cooks carried on friendly conversation with diners while they worked. Our soda refills came quickly and without prompting. I imagine a group of old men meeting for morning coffee, laughing and busting up, being a regular scene. This place totally lives up to the hype, and is incredibly affordable. Been twice. The "famous" halibut sandwich was solid -- kind of like an elevated McDonald's Filet-O-Fish. The burger was just a burger, more Costco-patty-on-a-bun than anything memorable, but it gets the job done. If you're in the neighborhood and jonesing for a burger, Burger Jim's down the street is the better call; otherwise, Weeby's across town with their daily baked brioche buns is Anchorage's best. Fries were excellent on my first visit, but on the second they tasted like they'd been sitting out awhile. Ambience sits somewhere between homey and a little filthy, and the service was basically nonexistent -- the server was glued to her phone or chatting with staff the whole time. TL;DR: Try the pricey fried fish sandwich once, but there are too many great dives in this town to think much about this place again read more

Strong taste and flakiness gave away the two pieces of cod. Firm texture, bigger flakes and fresh taste of halibut identified the two halibut pieces. I put in an address for our uber driver to take us to but we asked him where locals go and he told us The White Spot. This local diner reminded me of where I grew up (upper midwest). It is small and friendly and fast and good. Growing up eating venison, it is my goal on our Alaskan vacation to eat a lot of venison so I got the reindeer sausage omelet. Yum! Do it. Eat some reindeer sausage. They also serve lunch so if breakfast isn't your thing and you are downtown, try them for lunch. They had a reindeer chili on the specials board that I was tempted to get. We are only in town for a day before heading to Seward to catch a cruise but if we were going to be here two days I would go back for lunch to see if that chili is as good as my mom's chili! read more

While the service was pleasant and I was looking forward to my blueberry pancake combo breakfast, I was sorely disappointed. Asked for crispy bacon. It came out wimpy. The scrambled eggs were uniquely served folded on my plate. However, the first bite was FULL of eggshell. I still have remnants in my molars. I moved on to the huge blueberry filled pancake. The sugar free syrup container lid was so corroded with an unknown substance, I declined to open it. My dining partner opened it and what lay inside .... This review is pretty much based solely on the halibut fish sandwich. THE BEST FISH SANDWICH. Basically an elevated filet-o-fish. Perfectly crushed panko, fresh, tender piece of halibut, tangy and creamy tartar sauce, and just enough lettuce to add crunch stuck between soft pieces of bread. The fries were steak fries style and also cooked well. They were really nice and have a great variety of hot sauces (I counted at least 7 sauces). Loved the cafe vibe inside this unassuming strip of stores. Definitely worth going to if you're in Anchorage. Loved it and will come back if we're ever in Anchorage. read more

We got a voicemail saying they can't deliver it because the restaurant never got the order because their tablet got stolen 8 months ago. It's almost been a year and they never got a new one probably because they don't care about delivery food or the drivers that deliver it and make a living off it. Holy moly! One of my fiancé's coworkers recommended white spot cafe and I am so thankful that he recommended this local eatery. It was pretty busy when we arrived so we sat at the countertop. They had some specials including the reindeer chili and the blackened halibut panini. We decided to try the chili but didn't want to be too full so got the cup, but just know that if you're getting a soup, just get the bowl - it's so much larger just for a couple bucks! My fiancé and I definitely knew we wanted to get their halibut sandwich but also wanted to try the blackened halibut panini. The halibut sandwich was my favorite and was the best fried fish we had on our Alaskan vacation. It was so fresh, having just seen it fried. The coating was not too thick, fried perfectly without overcooking the fish. The panini was definitely different and the blackened halibut was seasoned super well, but I still preferred the famous halibut sandwich, I mean it must be famous for a reason. It's downright good food. Don't come for the ambience just come for the food. A Local told me to come for the halibut. It was fresh and tasty $27, with fresh fries and coleslaw. Yummy...I asked a customer where to get good Alaskan Halibut and he suggested this place for lunch. I went with the sandwich and so glad I did. It is a small cafe that takes you back to the 50's. There is a counter area in front of the cooking area and several booths. They have magazine articles about their sandwich so was a good start. Ordered and patiently waited. The sandwich was pretty big. When I cut it in half the steam coming from the fish made my mouth water. My first bite and wow, it was soooo good. This was the best fish sandwich I have ever eaten.
