Middle Way is a solid option for breakfast and lunch in Anchorage. Their food is consistent and tasty, the staff are friendly. Certainly one of my favorite breakfast places in Anchorage.

Mayflower Sandwich (GF Option Available) with sprouts. Yummmm

I've come to Middle Way for years, but never written a review. The food is phenomenal. Healthy, fresh and soooo good. Their baked goods are why I come. This cute place is always bustling, but a great place to work on your computer or grab lunch. My favorite is any of the sandwiches, with added sprouts. The carrot cake is to die for!!! The best carrot cake I've ever had! Wonderful service and attentive staff. Lots of GF options

This is a Denver/Asheville/mountain town place. It has a great vibe and lots of food choices. The coffee and water are self serve. You order at the counter and they bring your food. Espresso options, vegan options are available. I would surely go back.

Been a little disappointed with how things have turned out price wise and what you get for value. My little English muffin with one egg and a few pieces of bacon for $10! Doesn't even come with anything, home fries would have been another $4.50. I was very surprised that it was basically empty at 8am on a wednesday. On the weekends they used to be very popular, maybe they still are? I paid over $30 for this breakfast sandwich and a breakfast burrito. Meh. Also not interested in their lunch options

I'm not a big sandwich-orderer, but I was surprisingly happy with my Mayflower order. Loved the side soup too but would have preferred it to be a little chunkier. The blue corn tortilla chips and salsa were a nice addition. Felt like I was making good, health-conscious decisions coming here :)

Organic Oasis is located on Spenard Rd. and W. 26th Ave. in a strip mall next to Video Game Depot. The interior dining room is open and spaciously laid out. A stage is set up in one corner of the dining area for live music or open mic nights and is one of several places hosting Spenard Jazz Fest this year. Shelves decorated with antiques for sale as well as artwork and crafts from local artists adorn the entire wall next to the stage. The employees were busy but friendly and greeted me when I walked in. I had just finished a workout earlier before arriving and decided to try one of their Power Smoothies on a whim. I chose the Sea Foam Smoothie with the Moon Mix (green papaya powder, flax seed, chicory, pectin, rice bran, calcium, magnesium, calcium, and L. acidophilus with 72 ionic trace minerals extracted from sea water....sounds very healthy to me!) that promotes cleansing, clarity and weight loss as the health benefits. Not knowing what to expect from such an eclectic list of ingredients, the smoothie itself was delicious and refreshing after the first sip. It certainly lives up to its name as the Sea Foam by its appearance (I think kale was one of the ingredients I missed due to the color). I had the Peanut Butter Conspiracy in a previous visit (peanut butter, banana, apple juice, and spirulina) which was also very good. I can't help but think that the owners are vinyl collectors of classic rock. On a side note, Peanut Butter Conspiracy was the name of a psychedelic pop rock band from the late 60's. Smoothies aside, the food here is also worth trying out. Some of the dishes I had on previous visits include the Lamb Burger (Australian lamb, red onion, lettuce, tomato, feta, Swiss cheese and tomatoes), the Chopped Chicken Salad (tomato, bell peppers, cucumbers, red onions, and sunflower seeds), the Roasted Brussels Sprouts with chipotle sauce, and the Bacon Beef Bleu Burger (organic grass fed beef, avocado, bleu cheese, lettuce, red onions, tomato, mayo, and uncured turkey bacon). They offer delivery through DoorDash and a website to order online for pick-up. This is a good option for healthy meals but we'll see if I can actually stick to my New Year's resolution.

Menu changes have been for the worse. Today when we arrived we waited for 10 minutes before I had to walk up to the front and ask for menus. The menus were very dirty and we felt gross even touching them. Then we waited another 10 minutes for the server. I don't blame the server for being understaffed, but at least some communication that we were not totally forgotten would have been helpful. The soup tasted good, but it was cold, which was disappointing. I got the Thai bowl, and it was mostly all cabbage and carrots with a few random mint leafs. It used to have an assortment of veggies and tempeh that was delicious. Now it only has a small serving of undercooked tofu and very little dressing or quinoa even. My favorite used to be the vegan high protein bowl and the Hungarian mushroom soup. Both have changed so much and are not good anymore. The soup is runny and oily now instead of creamy. The VHP is missing all of the ingredients that made it amazing in the first place and now is more like a basic salad. I am very disappointed as this used to be my favorite place to eat in Anchorage. I just want it to go back to how it used to be.

I bought a bánh mì thịt người (deli meats) and went home to share some with my husband, and we immediately went back to get 3 more I'm from Orange County, CA (known to have high concentration of Vietnamese population), and walking in the store is like coming back home. The owner is a very nice and friendly Vietnamese mom, came to the US ten years ago. We were chatting and watching her make the banh mi, and it just looked so satisfying to see her cutting the bread and see the steam rising. Perfectly toasted outside, fluffy inside, stuffed with meats and fillings. The bánh mì thit người was savory, with hints of sweetness, spice, and pickles veggies. You can request to not have those in the sandwhich, but all the flavors really meld together into a delicious experience. She sells tons of drinks there. We tried her Viet coffee, and her's is very rich and has a deep sweet flavor to it (be careful not to drink too late in the day if you're sensitive to caffeine). There's also a large variety of tropical fruit like longan, lychee, baby mango, mangosteen, etc. I highly recommend anyone who wants to eat Viet food, try interesting specialty drinks, or just wants to support small local businesses to check out her store.

Acai Alaska is located in a small trailer/food truck that sits atop a hill on the corner of Brandon St. and Old Seward Highway directly across from Southside Grill. There are new owners who have taken over from the original who operated at a strip mall off of Lake Otis and Dowling several years ago. The employees are super friendly and easy to converse with. The menu hasn't changed much although some of the food items like Musubi and almost all of the sandwich selections except the Grilled Cheese and Grilled Cheese with Ham are no longer available. There is a drive-thru window on one side where you can place your order. I ordered the Mauna Kea Bowl (topped with bananas, blueberries, strawberries, macadamia nuts, walnuts, chocolate-covered almonds, granola with raisins, and coconut shavings) on the Nutty Heaven base (Acai berries, bananas, strawberries, and peanut butter). The ingredients were fresh, filling, and made to order so expect to wait several minutes if there are a line of cars. However, it is worth the wait and easily a delicious healthy alternative for lunch and not just a snack. Other items on the menu include the Tiger Shark (blackberries, kiwi, raspberries, walnuts, almonds, goji berries, bee pollen, chia, and a variety of seeds that includes pumpkin, sunflower, flax, and hemp seeds), the Bonsai (kiwi, chocolate-covered Acai/blueberry, macadamia nuts, and spirulina) with a unique color combination once the ingredients are blended together, the Sleeping Lady Smoothie (Acai blend topped with mango and shredded coconut), and the Fireweed Smoothie (Acai blend topped with acerola and goji berries). Punch cards are offered for return visits. Buy nine bowls, get the tenth one for free.
