It's a Monday so it's time for bread. This place is amazing. We come back time and time again for the cinnamon chip and we try to switch it up but we need a white loaf this week so that's our second loaf. Lunch time is crazy since they added sandwiches but reminds me of back home so I don't mind at all. Everything we get here is delicious and my little nephew even loves it and he's more picky than me lol. The service is always great. You can get a sample with butter that's right they will butter your sample. And it's a slice of the bread, not a small portion like Costco. The Ambiance is that of a bread store, or a sandwich shop. The service here is absolutely amazing! Had a rough travel day that started at 4:30am and by the time I got here I was tired and hangry. It started with the many choices of bread, a 'would you like some of this delicious warm bread while you wait' paraphrasing only slightly, and then they didn't have the bread for my sandwich (I paid an extra $1 for cheesey) and they went over and beyond to compensate for such a small inconvenience. Lovely neighborhood bakery filled with community members and friends. They have wonderful cookies, bread, and sandwiches ! They had the best cinnamon buns! If you get them fresh they're the most delectable and delicious cinnamon buns you'll ever have. My partner who doesn't even like cinnamon buns ate a whole one by himself ! They are located in a busy shopping center off Benson Boulevard. Free parking with handicap access if you look carefully for it. They specialize in Breads, rolls, cookies, sandwiches and soup, gift baskets. The prices are moderate for Alaska Bakeries. The products are excellent and tasty. They have a variety of items that they rotate daily and a handout and website to tell when they have specialty items. I have been a customer for years and never have I ever gotten a Bread or item I did not find excellent or wanting in anyway. The staff are friendly and efficient. You can sample selected items just by asking before buying. They have speciality items around holidays you can pre-order. They do a brisk morning and lunch business with limited seating. Their business is mostly carry-out with peak times in early morning, lunch and after work customers. I highly recommend this bakery for any of the items they sell at good prices. read more

Great Harvest Bread is located in the same plaza as Metro Cooks and Wild Scoops. Since my husband and I had gotten ice cream at Wild Scoops, we decided to check out Great Harvest and am glad we did. Great Harvest Bread smelled so yummy when we first walked in and were greeted by one of the employees behind the counter. We ended up ordering: Blueberry Almond Muffin, $3.25- This is their muffin of the day (on Mon/Wed/Fri). My husband ordered this and I thought the size for the price is actually pretty good. It is pretty cheap but definitely a big size. My husband ended up taking part of back with us to our vacation rental. I didn't have any but my husband liked this muffin. Marionberry Scone, $3.25- I decided to order this scone of the day (on Wed/Sat). The shape of it was rather ugly (lol) but it tasted find to me. It was moist but wasn't very sweet. I thought it was good but probably could have gone well with some honey whipped butter or something like that. I probably wouldn't order this again and would want to try their other flavored scones. Sample of Cinnamon Chip- Wow, the sample size that I was given (right by the register) is very generous. I had asked the employee what was the most popular bread they have, she told me the cinnamon chip and asked if I wanted butter. I said yes and she put on quite a generous smear of butter (which I did also use on my scone). I can see why the cinnamon chip is popular because it is very good and would highly recommend ordering this. ----------------------------- (Total= $6.50) Service was fast and the employee who gave me the sample (different employee from the one who took my order), was very friendly. I just bought a loaf of Chugach Rustic Sourdough Bread stored in a plastic bag. It was like it was baked a couple of days ago-hard and rubbery. I beat it on the counter as hard as i could and it held its shape and bounced like a ball. Sourdough bread should have a crisp crust with a tender crumb, it went into the garbage! will never buy another Sourdough bread from GHBC again! read more

I've been going here for many years and have always had wonderful service and great food. I especially like their oatmeal chocolate chip cookies (deeeeelicious!). I've given their breads and pastries as gifts and people are always so happy to receive it! It does get very crowded during holidays, but I'd say that that's a plus! Staff are so dumb they will try and kick you out of the parking lot if you arrive early in the morning while waiting for your order! They also don't know how to use there Uber eats app updates correctly and all have horrible attitudes like they do not want to be there or serve food to anyone like some punk. Great Harvest has turned into my go-to sandwich spot in Anchorage. There is nothing particularly exotic about any of the sandwiches. This is your typical roast beef and provolone, turkey and swiss kind of place. But the quality is what counts here. The sandwiches are consistently fresh and delicious, and the best part is after you order and while you wait, they offer you a slice of complimentary bread. I usually go with the cinnamon raisin, which is good enough by itself, but when butter is applied, it somehow gets even better. I suspect the complimentary bread is day-old bread which they are just trying to get rid of. Same goes for the hardening cookie they throw inside your sandwich bag. But it's all good. The turnaround time is usually quick. Even when the line is long I haven't waited more than 5 minutes to order. After placing my order, I haven't waited more than 10 minutes to receive. My only knock is the drink selection. It's not great. They could really benefit by offering some homemade iced tea or lemonade. Everything they sell is bottled. Be sure to inquire about the stamp card. I did not discover this until about my 10th visit, at which time I would have been entitled to a free sandwich. They don't advertise it, so ask. read more

The breads here are very delicious. Well made, fresh baked, soft and flavorful. They have a peanut butter chocolate chip bread on their menu that I'm just dying to try! Honestly, they make some decent local bread! And the place always smells so good. Unfortunately my kids and so many people I know are gluten free these days, including myself. I used to get bread here for friends and family but with so many people I know being gluten free I haven't been able to shop here. Over the last year, I've dropped in whenever I'm in the area, to see if they have added any gluten free options. I'd say every 2-3 months. The last TWO times, I got some rude responses when asking if they had any gluten free options added to the menu. The last time was really my last attempt when me and my friend went in to see if they had gluten free options. After asking, I got some major eye roll from a young gal, who looked over at her co-worker with an expression of annoyance or irritation by my question. The co-worker then responded "NO," in a very displeased tone and we left. As soon as we left, my friend remarked on the girls attitude, so I know I wasn't just taking it the wrong way. Perhaps it's an all too frequently asked question, and I could see how it could become annoying, but there's a standard of customer service you must present in front of the customers. I also understand gluten free isn't everyone's thing, but for health reasons it is a must for some of us. I dock one star for no gluten free options, as so many places are now adding more and more gluten free options to their menus and in their stores. I dock another star for the rude customer service. This took place several months ago and I have no attempted to go back and do not plan to. read more

The conversation I overheard from the kitchen led me to believe that the staff is being coached to be cohesive and conscientious, to do more than put in time at a job, and every interaction I had there leads me to feel that the folks who work there are doing their best. Great Harvest has some of the freshest bread in Anchorage. They're usually very generous with their samples and have daily specials. The prices of their sandwiches I believe could be a bit more reasonable, since they're reaching toward the $15 range. Either way, the services here is always kind and professional. It's mostly a to go establishment. There's not a lot of seating. I would order a head of time for pick up if you're ordering lunch. This way you can get your sandwich on time. Their Italian sandwich is one of my favorites. read more
