This is the French dip and BLT.

Great food for the price and very filling. I only finished half of my sandwich, and my wife couldn't finish hers either. Everything had a lot of flavor. I had the French dip with clam chowder, and both were hearty and satisfying. My wife had the BLT with chicken and rice soup, which was also very hearty and delicious. Definitely a spot worth checking out if you want good portions and flavorful food.

Trivia: Agaricus bisporus is a species of what three types of mushrooms? This place is so high level. Just wow. I was not prepared for the salad bar layout and selection. So many delicious options. I don't think Ive seen the likes of it since the old school Ponderosa/Golden Corral/Sweet Tomatoes salad bar days. The Greek chicken with a baked potato was out of this world as well. The mushrooms were plentiful and tasty. A generous helping of chicken mixed in. And the baked potato?! HUGE. Between that meal and the side salad, I had dinner and lunch the next day. Service was great. They are juggling all the things. Cleaning, takeout orders and even their kids. So impressed.

I was so excited to see all the various toppings they had at their salad bar. It was salad heaven for me. We both got sandwiches and shared a lemon chicken soup, which definitely hit the spot on a somewhat soggy day. I found the prices more than reasonable and would love to visit again someday.

    Lamb gyro. Delicious.

Delicious food. Fresh salads. Tasty, temperature hot soups. When you stop in to eat, make sure you're hungry.

Yes 100 times yes!! If you like a great salad bar, good soup and some down home cooking, Sophia's is the spot! Inside it's a very small cozy place so plan accordingly if you're a large group, It's also great for takeout or DoorDash. Service is good and you won't leave hungry. I love that they play country music inside, gives it that Americana feel.

Super friendly folks in a homey atmosphere with delicious family recipes. The steak and eggs was perfectly seasoned and cooked perfectly. The scrambled eggs were moist and fluffy with some tasty homestyle potatoes. If you have the space in your gullet give their salad bar a whirl. All homemade dressings with a large assortment of veggies! So glad we found this spot down on Spenard.

Now I understand the hype! Sofias is a family-owned spot tucked in the corner of Minnesota and Spenard. We stopped in for lunch around the holiday season and sat at the bar. There were a ton of people coming in to pick up to-go orders but the woman at the front served every customer with ease, positivity and professionalism. I was really impressed. The food was excellent and portions were big. I opted for the avocado BLT with the salad bar option. I loved the variety of the salad bar and the homemade dressings. The ranch was a great complement to my BLT. My partner raved about the clam chowder. I wanted to share the wealth with my parents so I ended up purchasing a gift certificate for them as a Christmas gift. Prices are a bit high but worth it. We definitely plan to be back.

Philly cheese steak, salad bar, and clam chowder

Great food and amazing service. We ordered the Philly steak sandwich which came with a soup and salad bar. The sandwich and salad were great, the clam chowder was good as well. Everything came in very large portions. When we asked to order a soup and premade salad, the waiter let us know that the sandwich came with both, and that the salad bar was popular as it let you choose anything you want. Definitely saved us some money. We all got bottled water instead of tap which was great. The tables also have sea salt and pepper you can freshly grind yourself. The waiter asked if we wanted some horseradish sauce and dipping broth with the sandwich as well, and it was great. Made a bit of friendly conversation as well. The restaurant was nice, with some nice wooden tables and stools and an MV playing on a screen. Overall loved this place and would come again if we were in the area.

OMG.. My wife and I flew several thousand miles from Honolulu to Anchorage and stumbled across this small little restaurant with BIG aloha as "Paul" provided the sense of 'ohana. The Gluten-free option was an ultimate plus and the out-of-this-world salad bar was crazy delicious. My wife had the BLT in "gf" bread and I had the run of the mill spaghetti with marinara sauce. NOTHING... I mean nothing was "run of the mill"... the food was super over-the-top 'ono (delicious), the service was warm and expedient, and the atmosphere made me feel like I was in a cozy restaurant in Hawaii with local "Jawaiian" music playing in the background. When they served in-house meals in take-out containers... I was a bit surprised, However, once you "attempt" to eat their generous portions.... you have an epicurial epiphany... the portions are so large, your gustatory gallop through the meal leaves a large portion of leftovers... so for your dining convenience, you merely close your take-out and carefully take it home and plan when next you will get to enjoy the rest of your tasty delight at home in your own gastric anticipation. Mahalo, Paul, for the awesome dining experience !! ~ Elena & Keahi (Kaimuki, Hawaii)

What an amazing hidden gem!! The owners were super friendly and polite. We had the chicken noodle soup and French dip - hands down the best French dip we've ever had!! We also split the spaghetti bolognese. This is a huge portion which will be had for dinner also! The food is super delicious and clearly made from the heart! Solid hidden gem in town

"Comfort Food" is the perfect descriptor of this place! The portions are big, the food is hearty and filling. Picture a big family get together, now picture your relative that makes the tastiest dishes...that's what this place is like! The ambiance is pretty sparse and lacking, so if you want to sit down with a large group, this isn't the place. It seems like it's more geared for take-out orders, honestly. I ate in and sat at the bar, and the service was very fast and very friendly, I was impressed! This would be a great place to take your parents, or, if you're visiting our state, a great place to get some take-out to do a group dinner at your Air B&B before flying home the next day.

Wow! This place is amazing - a true hidden gem. Burgers, sandwiches, pasta, chicken, steak, soup and a salad bar. Portions are huge! It's like sitting in someone's home eating a fresh home cooked meal. Fast service from amazing staff. Love this place!!

This particular hotel has a combination, and frankly it is poorly operated. The hotel is very nice looking The eating area is clean however, their bar staff and their wait staff are probably very inexperienced. There was no organization the average wait time based upon the fact I actually timed mine is 20 minutes prior to getting the first cocktail, which was just a poured beer. I ordered food it the food came as ordered. Taste wasn't bad. But considering the fact that was 10 below zero outside with the windchill factor I wasn't going someplace else to eat. However, another person who I don't know what their circumstance was sitting next to me and waited so long just to illustrate a point he ordered Chinese food ordered from the local restaurant and delivered by GrubHub. That should send a message to the management of the Marriott that they need to evaluate staffing. Now in their defense, I suspect it's hard to hire staff that is experienced willing to work in this environment. Meaning this part of Alaska and you have to do what you have to do. The solution before you send them on their own teach them the basics. I'm not spending another night otherwise I'd be forced to eat here again, but I'd be a little more aggressive as a customer. Which they probably didn't need. I had the shrimp cargo, which is their version of escargot and I had a broiled cod sandwich tasted fine. French fries were not cooked and again that goes back to just a lot of orders probably very little help. My beer it was cold once I got it. I gave a three. Stars, I probably could've stretched that into Four because of the food, but let's leave it at three and try harder.

Maybe you could get away with staying in the loading zone? Hit or miss because you don't know how long it'll take to get your order if you just walk in. I got the Holy Grail. It was very good! By the time I was 2/3 in the meat became very salty and I almost couldn't finish it. Might need something more to cut the saltiness of the meat or more vinegar, and cheese, not very much of either on the sandwich. A little spendy for lunch, but worth it once in awhile. I also got the "meal" which was Mac and cheese(or salad) and a bite of one of their desserts. The Mac and cheese was HEAVY on either garlic or truffle, it was a little much. But it was good overall just not your regular Mac and cheese taste. The brownie was very good, dark chocolate. With the meal you get like 1/4 of one of their regular bars. Next time I would try the grilled cheese or back to the future sandwich. The lady making the sandwiches I think was the owner, there was also another lady helping out. I wish she would have explained things a little more like what the desserts were, I didn't realize they were right in front of me when choosing. And she didn't ask if I wanted Mac and cheese or salad with my meal. The owner you could tell took her work seriously and she loves her craft!

It features a blend of barstool window seats, barstool bar seats, high-top tables, and standard-height tables. We went for a very late lunch, which made the quick food delivery and yet under-attentive service a little perplexing. Having spent last summer in London, the attraction at TCT for us was comparing and contrasting Alaska Halibut Fish & Chips with the British fare. I wanted to like the Tent City offering; I really did not. For the price ($28/ea), we got three modest pieces of fish and the equivalent of two servings of chips. Both the fish and the chips were mushy (undercooked), with a heavy batter finish in contrast with the light and crisp British offering. The accompanying tarter sauce was an odd raspberry-and-blackberry concoction that my family and I called a pickle aftertaste. The presentation, for the price and the atmosphere, was a confusing combination of a metal basket lined with wax paper (like a 1950's drive-through), plastic water and soda glasses (like a college cafeteria), and real silverware. Other reviews have high praise for TCT so, on our next visit to Alaska, it will be good to give them another try. The bones of this establishment are in place for a really special experience, but, today, for me, it was just "ok."

I was really hungry so I got there right when they opened at 11 a.m. I was able to be seated immediately and opted to sit upstairs where the tables were lower as compared to downstairs where the tables were high tops. Off the bat the food is phenomenal. For starters I got their popular handmade Bavarian pretzel. It was perfectly seasoned with butter and salt and the pretzel itself was soft and fluffy. It came with a side of cheese which was just as tasty. I was a little nervous it would taste like the melted cheese you eat at an amusement park- but this cheese had fantastic quality. One really neat thing about this brewery is they make their own fountain drinks! I tried the raspberry one and as you can see they aren't shy about the portions! The drink was really good. It had a great flavor to it, and a nice balance. The raspberry wasn't overpowering which I'm grateful for. For my entree I had the Yak burger that came with a side of tater tots. My waiter recommended I get it cooked at medium to keep it juicy. Typically I'm a medium well to well done type of girl, but I decided to trust his judgement and he was right! The burger was huge, messy, and delicious. The medium was definitely a good call. It was juicy but not so red where it would be off putting! Overall, I had a really incredible dining experience at 49th state brewing. And the prices were unbelievably reasonable. My meal came out to about $52 (not including my tip). I would love to come back when it's a bit warmer and sit outside- the views from the restaurant are phenomenal. Also, shout out to my waiter!
