Only reason it's not a 5 is I haven't eaten every meal they offer. The food is no nonsense and worth it if you're hungry! In a time where quality and quantity shrink while prices go up Scottie's delivers a taste of the past

Scottie's exudes the motley crew of food styles you find in Alaska eateries: they have breakfast stuff, they have Chinese/Asian stuff, they have burgers, and...of course, they have subs. It's located downtown and it's one of the cheaper (if not the cheapest) place to grab a meal there. Interior is dated, it's not sexy but it's functional. Menu is also very old school in style. It uses those slide-in-letters like you might see at a mom n pop banana split stand in rural Wisconsin. I got a pastrami breakfast sandwich. Because I'm a wierdo, I subbed kimchi for the fries. It was a good meal. I wish the bun was a bit more breakfasty and a bit less hamburgery though. They also didn't have any black coffee, which is odd for a place that does breakfast foods.

This is a great hole in the wall place! My first experience here and the food here is great. I ordered a hot pepperoni sub which at first glance looked sad but in between the buns there was a good inch of pepperoni. Felt like I was eating just pepperoni after the first couple of bites, which did feel kinda heavy. My only complaint is that I wish I got more fries :( but overall it was a good sub. My partner had the teriyaki burger, which looked very appetizing!! He said it had the best combination of sweet and savory with the pineapple and teriyaki glaze. Seems like the place where you constantly get good service because the owner (assuming) helped up decided what we should get. Apart from burgers and subs, they also offer oriental food. Definitely recommend!!

Amazing!! First time trying and have zero regrets. Fast service, clean and friendly. Very hot, fresh and just plain goodness. Highly recommend trying!

I was visiting my son in Anchorage, and spotted this little sub job on the side of the street. I noticed they had Asian food and decided to give it a try. I'm from Honolulu and I'm used to excellent Asian food. I ordered the sweet and sour chicken with rice and a salad on the side. It's not cheap $12 in fact. However, It was Ono (delicious)! Especially during a cold day in Anchorage the hot chicken, the delicious sauce and warm rice hit the spot. If you're walking down fifth Avenue in Anchorage look for Scotty subs. Deliciousness. My only complaint is the price. $15 for a plate lunch and a bottle of sweet tea is pricey.

As expected, the restaurant was crowded. After thirty minutes, it was hard to find an available table. Food is ordered at a counter, then a waiter takes it to the table. Portions were large. Fried rice tasted just right. It was piled high and I special ordered it without peas. It was prepared correctly. Five stars! Pot stickers were good. 4 stars. My wife had beef chow fun and that was five stars and the portion was large. Self serve soft drinks are available with unlimited refills. Strongly recommend this for anyone who likes good Chinese food. Our bill with tip was over $60. No sales tax in Anchorage.

For clarity: this rating is off the dim sum and dim sum-type dishes alone. Did not try the baked goods (aside from dan tat) or the rice plates/noodle plates, which seem to make up most of the menu. And the dim sum is... hit or miss. The bok choy is a generous portion, properly cooked, not the most interesting, but not bad. Spicy shrimp won tons are on the small side but tasty, although lacking in the umami that their better-known competitors (especially starting with a "D") begin with. Shu mai (shrimp or chicken, I got shrimp) were the most average/solid of the bunch, which to be fair, is entirely adequate. Har gow looked very pretty, but the skins were too thick, both skins and filling decidedly missing in flavor. The bean curd wrap was giant, super-sized vs. what you'd normally see, and while the bean curd wrap was on-point, the pork filling was pretty plain. This extended to the lo mai gai (sticky rice), which was ENORMOUS, like triple the size of what you'd see at normal dim sum, and similarly plain filling. To their credit, the quality of the stick rice itself was quite good, and the amount of filling was ample. Finally, the dan tat. Crust was a bit too crumbly and lacking in richness of the better ones, and the filling was oddly wrinkled, like it'd cooled too fast. However, the filling quality was good enough. They were busy when I walked in for dinner and were completely full a few minutes later, so much kudos to them-- they clearly are appreciated by the community, and it shows. Some diners at the table next to mine got the usual rice/noodle plates and many left quite full, so portions are good. Kitchen, as busy as they are, is both fast enough and a bit uneven. Short version: you're in Alaska, you can't expect what you get in 415 or 626. However, don't get too carried away either.

Always look at newest reviews!!!…read more We saw the 4.4 red stars and thought this was gona be an amazing place. The first red flag was 1pm on week day and there was only 3 parties in the place. The one and only server was very nice, but being the only one, twice when new parties entered he would walk away. Wife ordered chicken katsu rice plate. The overall theme is everything is bland. EVERYTHING.. Her cabbage slaw/salad had a white creamy sauce, my best guess is mayo mixed with ranch but only if both was every kind of free there is, fat, sugar, carb, keto, and most importantly, taste FREE. Her rice was purple, there were purple chunks, not sure if it was potato, the rice was mushy, wet, and Bland. Her kutsu sauce was made from the same everything free ingredients. Come on man, Kutsu sauce is 3 ingredients and all three are bold flavors, how do you mess that up. But ok, they want to be fusion, maybe add some cilantro or chili. She asked for soy sauce and salt to try and add some flavor. Half way through she has me hold out my hand and pours a handful of the "salt" from the shaker. It was not salt granules, almost looked like a salt substitute. I honestly don't know what it was but when I tasted it I would be extremely generous by saying I got a 25% salt flavor. Normally, you put 2-4 tablespoons of salt in your hand and lick your finger, when you taste that, you get a powerful punch in the mouth of dam, that's salty. I was dumbfounded, if they are using that "salt" to cook with them makes since why everything is so bland. I don't want to repeat the Bland Bland Bland theme over and over. I had bulgogi, kutsu, and BBQ chicken tacos. I will skip to the end- yep, you guessed it, Bland. We did have the bulgogi egg roll, I do want to touch on this only because I was so mad at myself once we left I dug Into the reviews. These are one of the most positive commented items, BUT those comments are from over a year ago. Overall, 11$ for two small egg rolls cut in half is ridiculous. Then if you bite/taste just the egg roll, there is a 5% taste of bulgogi sauce. Which again is so explosive of a sauce. But, If you drown the egg roll in the creamy mild sriracha sauce then the egg roll is ok. If you forget what it should taste like and just concentrate on how did they make the sauce with no heat, then you could get at least a 2-2.5 star. Server deserves 5 stars, Food deserves 2 stars.

A fried ono fish burger, a seared ahi sandwich, cheesy seafood dip, and the cookies. Everything was awesome! The fish burger had lilikoi tartar sauce and the fish was super fresh tender and flaky. The ahi sando had chopped kimchi and a garlicky mayo. The dip had a touch of smoke and didn't taste fishy. The cookies were bigger than I imagined and were excellent especially with the generous sprinkling of maldon sea salt crystals. If I was forced to split hairs, I'd wished the seafood medley in the dip (shrimp, halibut, etc) were chunkier so you could identify what was in each bite. It was more whipped or creamed together. I also think the cookies would be better if they were just a little thicker, although I can see the allure of a thin crispy cookie also. The cost was pretty expensive, but the ingredients they use are fresh and high quality so you can see where the money goes. The staff were really above-and-beyond friendly. So when something actually works, it hits different. That's how I stumbled into Sushi on the Fly. Fresh off a less-than-inspiring experience elsewhere, I walked up and immediately spotted two beautiful words: Alaskan Amber. Right next to it? Alaskan White. Now we're talking. It's like being a kid again, eyes lighting up at the candy shelf except this time the candy comes in a pint glass and takes the edge off TSA and delayed departures. And then there's the bartender. Laser-focused. No wandering, no guessing, no existential crisis behind the bar. Just a guy who knows exactly what he's doing. You need another drink? He's already halfway there before you finish the sentence. It's a rare thing in an airport someone with one job, doing it well, and not trying to reinvent the wheel while doing it. The place itself is split into two sections, giving it this low-key, tucked-away feel. Not slammed, not chaotic. Maybe people haven't caught on yet, or maybe this is where you go when you've had enough of the circus and just want a moment of peace before boarding. Either way, it works. Now, I'm not a big sushi guy but if you are, this looks like your playground. Clean presentation, everything looking tight and dialed in. No red flags, no mystery fish vibes. Just a well-run machine humming along in the background while the rest of the terminal fumbles through the basics. And the bar? Fully stocked. We're talking Patrón, Don Julio, and everything you'd expect from a place that actually plans ahead. No "we're out of that" nonsense. No waiting. No stress. Just quick, clean service. Big screen TV, solid drink selection, and a staff that looks like they showed up ready to work not just pass the time. It's not trying to be flashy. It's not pretending to be something it's not.
