The staff was so friendly! The ambiance adds so much to this place! Like an authentic old time diner. First- the milkshakes! We had a blueberry and then a pineapple/ caramel shake... like an upsidedown pineapple cake! I tried the chili fries bc I always want them... and they were exactly what I expected- so much chili and cheese everything was soaked The fried chicken was delicious and seasoned just right. Nothing but AMAZING.... From the outside, the place and neighborhood we were a little worried being from out of town. We were happily greeted and shown our booth. Once our server, Nicole, came we asked her a few questions about the menu which she answered and made her recommendations. Once our apps were brought out, she brought us a small strawberry orio shake to welcome us in for the first time. -The cheese curds, A+ soft, great batter. -Cup of chili with cheese. B+. The only critique of the evening is the hamburger was not seasoned. There was huge chunks of burger in the chili, which is great but if the meat would have had more seasoning it would have tasted better. -fried chicken is out of this world. Skin was slap your momma one time and once you bite into the meat, the chicken is so juicy it makes you want to slap your moms twice. I have never and I hope my mom and grandma don't read this but I have never had fried chicken this good. I usually eat in but did pickup today. I've had the chicken many times but never in a sandwich. The portion was quite large in comparison to say McDonalds. It wasn't dried out or tough. I ordered pick up but wouldn't have if I didn't have a $7 off coupon. $27.99 otherwise for a four piece meal is just outrageous - (portions ok) chicken is very bland. February 2025. We didn't go in but picked it up. Had to call in the order since we wanted fried pickles and they weren't on the online ordering menu. We got the five piece fried chicken with fries and a cornbread muffin, and an order of fried pickles. It was $20 and the fried pickles were $13 I think. The chicken was pretty good, not too greasy. The wing piece had barely any meat on it but the others were good. They added fried pickles to the menu and cheese curds so I wanted to try the pickles at least. We were in Anchorage for 36 hours and we were told we had to check this place out for "excellent" fried chicken! It was rainy and chilly outside, but the atmosphere inside was rather pleasant. We were seated immediately and had our order taken. The food arrived quickly and was hot. We tried a chicken salad sandwich, onion rings, and the fried chicken with mashed potatoes. The chicken salad was good. Not too mayo-y and didn't make the bread soggy. The onion rings had a decent crunch, but you have to pay extra for ranch, so that's kind of meh. The potatoes and gravy didn't have flavor. I had to add salt. The chicken had a good initial crunch, and it was juicy, but lacked seasonings and needed salt as well. Walked into the restaurant and the place was pretty empty, compared to all the years we have gone here when The Browns owned it. We stood at the sign that says wait to be seated and wait we did. The only time I have had to wait in the past when the employee was cleaning table for us to sit down. After we were seated one of the young girls gave us silverware and water. Again we waited until our server "Ashley" came to help us. We ordered a Butterscotch Milkshake, Gizzards and a Jumbo cheese. In the past the milkshake would have been brought to us within 5 minutes. Once we got the shake we noticed it was awfully dark after tasting it, it was chocolate. Got the waitress and she apologized and said I thought you said chocolate. She took the shake away and brought us the correct one within minutes. Once again we waited and waited for our food. In the past we would have our food within minutes. I will say the food was steaming hot and good however I think you have to take out a small loan to eat here. The prices have gone extremely high. I know every place has increased prices but our lunch for two came to $41 and the service wasn't great. When I'm in Anchorage I try to find a reason to indulge in fresh honey dipped fried chicken and fresh made onion rings. My only problem was that I'm allergic to eggs, and I suspect that the chicken was dipped in egg wash, and there were also multiple eggs in the corn muffins. I got sick, but not too bad. Went to Lucky Wishbone for Mother's Day and it was the best choice ever. My husband got the jumbo cheese and I got the mom. Absolutely loved them both - it took a minute for it to come out - but note the food is all made fresh and not frozen so I can appreciate it. I also got their strawberry lemonade which was a great pairing with the chicken. The coleslaw took me for a whirl because it's made with pineapple! I don't think I've had anything like that before, but totally yummy if you're a coleslaw lover. The restaurant is warm and filled with Alaska's history. I wanted to order for my hunny and SIL and have it delivered to them. Nowhere on the Lucky Wishbone website or menu said anything about WHO was delivering, only "delivery". I ordered $100 for two meals and sides. 90 minutes later the food still wasn't delivered. I called them where a woman dismissively informed me "the food is ready and has been waiting"! I was then informed Lucky Wishbone has nothing to do with delivery, it is handled by DoorDash. Note; they never bothered to call DoorDash to tell them an order was ready, or call ME for that matter, they just let the food sit there and go bad. This woman then had the audacity to tell me I'd have to straighten it out with DoorDash. People, if you can't go pick it up, don't bother, the Wishbone isn't what it used to be. We used to come to Lucky Wishbone a lot pre-pandemic. If i were to base my rating on those experiences, it would be a better rating. We were passing the other night, decided to go in and eat. The parking lot was empty, there was no one inside, and the sign on the door said please call in your order, which i did. I got a recorded message stating that it wasn't open today. Ok, fine, we'll come another day. So yesterday, husband said let's go to Lucky Wishbone. As they had a website, we ordered online for pickup - believing the dining room to be closed, based on the sign on the door. We ordered, and it was DANG expensive, for only being chicken and fries. We both got a Mom, as well as a side order of onion rings, and orange juice for me. There was nowhere for me to state, "do not add ice to my drink, i hate it" We were already in their parking lot when we got the message to collect our order. We sat in their parking lot, so we did not drive anywhere to eat the food. We literally collected the food, and ate it right there. I do not like lukewarm food. The takeout food is served in cardboard boxes, and the steam that the food had sat in, affected the integrity of the fries. They were limp and flaccid. We do not like limp and flaccid anything. They were also very salty. I had ordered a side of ranch, which wasn't there, nor were there any napkins, and considering you're eating with your fingers, you need napkins. He went back for my ranch. The chicken here is good. Juicy, tender, and well cooked. Hot enough. The cornbread muffin was delicious. The fries were as I already described, and i had to fold them in half to enable me to dip them in the ranch. The onion rings had good flavour actually, but were also floppy, and I'd have liked more batter, as it had mostly fallen off by the time we got them. My orange juice had a lot of ice, and already tasted watery by the time i got it. I think what was most annoying, was the fact that there were people in the dining room - the sign on the door, had led us to believe they were doing takeout only. I know the experience would have been better had we eaten inside. So, I'm basing my review on the experience last night, and not previous times. Great chicken and cornbread. Sophia was a great waitress. I came here with my two kids and my son's friend. We all got different thing. My son went with chicken wings, I got the jumbo burger, my daughter got fries, and the friend got the fried chicken meal. Everyone raved over the fries and the chicken. I also got the corn fritters, which were great. The atmosphere is like an old fashion diner. The restaurant smelled clean, and that is not a given for diners in Alaska. First of all I always love eating here so there is that. We love this place because it is a constant and the vibe is just awesome. We unfortunately came in later in the evening but were welcomed without hesitation. I have been a fan of Lucky Wishbone since I moved to Anchorage in 1969 . Yep , that long ! Today I was shocked when I was charged 3.99 % more for using a credit card .This is so disappointing . I am sure that with the volume of business they do they are not being charged more than 1.5% by the card companies . Their motivation for doing this is greed and it just might be they want to hide their profit from the IRS and cash transactions are the easiest way to accomplish this . Lucky Wishbone is a very successful business . I think the restaurant prices in Anchorage are way out of line already . Food and labor costs are not any higher than a lot of places in the lower 48 and our restaurant prices are definitely higher . I hope this isn't the beginning of a bad for consumer trend .
